Well I'm bummed. I'm not sure why - but I just don't like this guy that much. Oh well - Joe Cada, the youngest champion in the 40-year history of the game's richest and most prestigious event, won with a pair of nines after about 90 hands head-to-head against second-place finisher Darvin Moon.

Cada squandered a huge lead at the start of play late on Monday against 46-year-old Moon before barreling back in a finale of constant betting. It was played before an audience of more than 1,500 people at the Rio Hotel-Casino at a table stacked with bricks of cash. A diamond-encrusted championship bracelet gleamed on the side of the table.

Good luck WPT, but given the brand has withered a bit - this seems like a good offer.

Mandalay Media, Inc. (OTCBB:MNDL) today announced that it has increased its
proposal to the Board of Directors of WPT Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:WPTE). The
revised proposal is to acquire WPT for $36.5 million, consisting of $28.5
million in cash, $5 million in Mandalay Media stock and perpetual revenue
participation rights, guaranteed to be at least $3 million. The estimated value
to shareholders per share is $1.77, including the guaranteed portion of the
revenue participation rights, and as adjusted for the actual share count at
closing. The proposal represents a premium of approximately 61% over the closing
price of WPT`s common stock on October 26, 2009 and a premium of approximately
28% over the implied value at closing of WPT`s pending asset sale with Peerless
Media Ltd.

The Run It Twice feature allows ring game players the option of seeing two outcomes for one hand, providing both players consent to it. The feature can be enabled when one or both of the remaining two players are all in: the remaining community cards are dealt twice, meaning the winner of each of the two outcomes wins half of the prize pool.

Mike Sexton Elected to Poker Hall of Fame

A special congrats goes out to Mike Sexton for making it into the Hall of Fame. For me - he was my first VOICE of poker and has recently been doing really well on the tournament circuit. It's always tough to pick who gets into any hall of fame - but in our minds he deserves it for all the contributions he's made to the game.

Long recognized as one of the good guys of poker, World Series of Poker bracelet winner and World Poker Tour announcer Mike Sexton received a big salute from some of his peers today.

Harrah's and the WSOP announced that Sexton has been elected to the Poker Hall of the Fame. He's only player of the nine finalists -- which included Grand Rapids native and 1983 WSOP main event champion Tom McEvoy -- who will be inducted this year.

After two months of speculation, CBS has finally confirmed what the poker world has suspected all along: poker pros Tiffany Michelle and Maria Ho will be competing together as a team on the upcoming season of the competition reality show “The Amazing Race.”

Photos, bios and video of the two women went up on the show’s official website on Wednesday, along with those of the other eleven teams competing in the latest installment of the race. Ho and Michelle will be facing off against a wide array of people including a married couple who work as yoga instructors, members of the Harlem Globetrotters, a singer/songwriter team and a contestant who has Asperger’s Syndrome.

The answer is affecting the fates of people across the country accused of breaking anti-gambling laws -- people like Kevin Raley of Colorado.

As an engineer, Raley finds that the mathematics of poker come easily, and he's pretty good at keeping a blank face. Reading other people, though, is something he's always working on. "It's something I'm better at today than I was five years ago," said Raley.

World Championship of Online Poker Starts Next Week

Starting the third of September, the World Championship of Online Poker will kick off, offering millions in prizes to the top earners on PokerStars. Forty-five events are on the ballot, and satellites are already running to determine seating.

Two events or more will take place every day from September 3rd to September 30th. With Buy-ins ranging from $109 to just over $10,000, players of all financial standing will be able to participate. With satellite games as low as $2 dollars, players will find that cheap entrance is a possibility.

Come on people - it's poker and it's online and should be legal. People love to play, and we need the tax dollars that now live offshore. Imagine what 5.9 billion dollars would do here in the US, and what about having those developers and business here instead of abroad?

Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) recently introduced a bill that would lift the federal ban on internet poker. The bill throws away an inappropriate ban on a game of skill, while keeping sensible regulations in place.

The ban on internet poker has not been effective in crippling the industry, but it has caused problems in the United States. According to the Financial Times, online poker revenue reached $5.9 billion last year, but the U.S. saw none of it. This regulation has pushed poker sites to operate out of other countries and has required players in the United States to make transactions through foreign banks.

The Colorado Supreme Court will have to judge whether poker is a game of chance or a game of skill, a poker players' organization said.

The appeal stems from a criminal case that began when the Colorado Bureau of Investigation arrested five people over a Texas Hold 'Em tournament with a $20 buy-in at a bar in Greeley, The Denver Post reported Wednesday. One defendant was acquitted in January and prosecutors then dropped the charges against the other four.

We just started our eighth season of the World Poker Tour (WPT). It’s actually pretty amazing to think we’ve been on television for seven seasons! And it’s more amazing how time flies.

Season VIII kicked off at Bellagio in July with a $15,000 buy-in for the Bellagio Cup V. 268 players were looking to take down the nearly $1.2 million first place prize. It was a strong field and a very tough final table. Erik Seidel, who was going for his second WPT title, said that it was the toughest final table in WPT history. I’m not sure I’d agree with that, but it was a very strong group.

WSOP 2009 Airs On ESPN Next Week - FINALLY!

Yep - it's starting this coming week and you can catch it on ESPN. This is a yearly month long journey for me each year. In the evenings on vacation at Martha's Vineyard there is simply nothing better than sneaking off to watch an hour and then returning to the fun.

SPN's broadcast of the WSOP is set to start next week. The first broadcast will be a two hour review of the WSOP 40th Anniversary $40,000 NL Hold'em event.

WSOP 2009Televised coverage of WSOP 2009 is set to begin on July 28 on ESPN. The broadcasts have been scheduled to air every Tuesday at 8 P.M. ET and the shows will run from next Tuesday until November 10, when the Main Event's final table will be broadcast. The show this year will feature twenty four hours of Main Event coverage.

That's right - the final nie are in, and Phil Ivey is one of them. I love watching Ivey play, but hope he doesn't become over confident too fast.

After a crazy and fast Day 8 of the Main Event of 2009’s World Series of Poker, we’re down to the final nine players. Phil Ivey made it, to the cheers of a packed rail at the Rio. Seriously — they were going mental for this guy.

After 27 started the day, poker fans were treated to some insane action. Billy Kopp pissed away a commanding chip lead on a 5-high flush. Kopp finished in 12th place after many were speculating that he would play tightly and coast into the final table with a strong lead.

Personally, I think it’s a dumb idea to ever have a bigger buy-in for a No Limit Hold’em tournament than the Main Event, so I wasn’t for it. I didn’t play in it because I missed the first week of the WSOP this year. I took a vacation with my wife Karen and son Ty (nine months old) to Yellowstone National Park – and it was great! It was a vacation for our second anniversary and Ty is the first child for either of us. It’s official - my priorities have changed from poker to parenting!

That's right - it's triple the number of chips and it's starting. I can't wait to watch this on ESPN again this year.

Players in all 57 events at this year's World Series of Poker will start out with significantly larger stacks of chips. Whether they have any left at the finish is up to their skills and luck.

Event No. 2 set for Thursday through Sunday at the Rio hotel and casino in Las Vegas is a new Texas Hold 'em tournament with a buy-in price of $40,000 to commemorate the 40th annual World Series. For the $40,000, each player will get 120,000 chips.

That 3-1 ratio of chips to buy-in price will apply in every event. The ratio had been 2-1 since 2007. Before that it was 1-1.

"We did triple the starting chips this year, allowing players more opportunities to have their strategies, learn their players at the table, last longer in the tournament and really give them an opportunity to play," says tournament director Jack Effel.
