Have you ever found a legal document online, and wondered about its authenticity? The Uniform Electronic Legal Materials Act (UELMA) was established by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws and establishes a digital preservation framework for official electronic legal materials moving forward.

The Act requires that legal materials be:

Authenticated, by providing a method to determine that it is unaltered;
Preserved, either in electronic or print form; and
Accessible, for use by the public on a permanent basis.
