I shot Hannah in and around the Royal College of Music. The shot I choose here was taken in Queen’s Gate. I have to say the highlight of the day was hearing her play the Saint-Saëns’ second piano concerto.

Claire Edwards Portraits

Claire and I met in Notting Hill Gate. I asked her where she’d like to change into her outfit. She suggest a restaurant bathroom. So my local pizzeria kindly obliged. We started shooting in a local mews and then moved on to Ladbroke Square.

Iuvenilia Quartet

I met up with Jona Schibilksy, Katherine Wang, Ji Eun Park and Anna Anton-Borkenhagen at The Royal College of Music to shoot their Iuvenilia Quartet. After a brief introduction we decided to do the first shot in the lobby.

After this we had an outfit change and went outside into Queen’s Gate.

Covert Pull-ups in the Mist

I was strolling through the beautiful Holland Park one misty morning when I came across a man hanging from a tree… Before the war this park used to be a private house and gardens, sadly the house was firebombed by the Luftwaffe in WWII and burnt down. An unintentional upside of this act of war was the council buying it, and gradually opening it to the public in 1953. So a socially positive end to a fascist story! I hope you’d agree?

During lockdown this park has become a favourite place for people to exercise. There’s plenty of space and what remains of the house has become a focus for training. The man hanging from a tree was in fact working out. He didn’t want me to photograph his face but was happy for me to shoot him mid-morning pull-up! Have you tried them? You should! Apparently pull-ups are an amazing multi muscle upper body exercise. I have to say I am thrilled by this news because I started doing them again after the first lockdown.

After some explanation it turned out that Mr Pull-up man worked in internet security and knew a thing or two about face recognition. So maybe he wasn’t just being shy?!

I shot these two likely looking characters the other morning in Holland Park. I wish now that I had gone over and asked them exactly what they were up to. I assumed at the time it was some exercise but on reflection it could well have been a type of meditation…?

Extreme Walking, or Singing an Aria?

I photographed this lady taking a walk in Kensington Gardens. Seeing as we are going constantly in and out of lockdown, and gyms are often closed, people have taken to exercising outside. I’m not sure if this type of exercise has a name? If you know feel free to leave a comment.

Walk in the Park

The snow was falling and I wanted to get involved. I was keen to get some photographs in the snow, with light bouncing all around. I decided to cycle up to Hampstead Heath and take some shots of people and the surrounding area. By the time I reached the Heath, after a fairly treacherous bike ride, the snow had stopped and there was a multitude of people out having fun in the snow. I started by shooting some groups of people on Parliament Hill.

After this I wandered off to shoot some of the surrounding landscape.

Finally I returned to Parliament Hill and started shooting some of the people who were wandering around wrapped up warm against the cold weather.
