Are you sick of watching those around you have the things that you want? This happens to almost all of us when we are first starting out but even those of us who are older at times. You need to make yourself stand out from the crowd in a way that you never thought was possible. Having a college education simply is not enough these days and I know that you will be able to do everything that is required to make yourself appear to be a better choice then the next most qualified applicant.

One of the first things you need to do is to focus hard on what you've learned or if your currently still in school you need to pay attention as much as possible. There are many people who leave school not knowing enough about what they learned in their first few years and that is a big problem. If your in your final year of school don't think that your taking a step back by going back and reviewing what you learned in your first year. This will give you the edge that you need and you will not be rusty if any type of testing is required. Also, You should be shooting for a 4.0 that makes a big difference, when they ask your GPA you want them to say Wow! that's the one who worked the hardest in school and that's the one that should probably work the hardest for us at this company.

I'm a big believer in attitude and when you walk into an interview with a positive and progressive attitude you set the mood and you tell them where your going in life. You tell them where your going to lead them if they put you in control and you tell them where you should start off. Trust me, you don't want to be stuck at the bottom of the company for too long and you will be happy that you went into this with the right mindset and you told them what your about right from the start. Don't be cocky! never be cocky that will make lead them to believe you may not be able to be controlled and it's not a good thing.

Self confidence you must truly believe that you are the right one for the job and you also may need to do all the extra studying beyond school that makes you fell that your the best person for the job. School is not enough and I can't stress this enough, If you think that all you need to learn is at school then you will not be the right person for the job. Learning more and more is what will push you beyond the next guy and make you somebody that can be relied upon when the going gets tough and the people with only a college education don't have the answers. In school you basically have a couple books that you study over the course of a semester in life you can read many books a week and learn various new ideas. Reading a lot will give you the edge that is necessary to answer the tough questions and be a problem solver.

Your going to need to seek out the right company for you and be persistent, maybe they decline you at first because maybe at that time you weren't the right person for the job but if you keep at them eventually a space will open up and you will be the one they call upon. You need to pick the right company because your goal is to stick with whatever company you end up with. This is going to take some self control because most likely you will get some offers along the way but if you take them you could potentially stick yourself with the wrong future and the wrong career path. Don't be the one who just simply settled on something you are better than that and you deserve more. I believe in you and you believe in yourself and together we are going to take you to the next level. If you follow my guidance I know that you will end up a far happier person with a far more valuable career path and living a life that you may have been dreaming about if you didn't find this article. Thanks for listening and good luck to you!
People would spend hours reading books and travel to lands far away-in their minds. The only tragedy is that, with time, people have lost their skill and passion to read. There are many other exciting and thrilling options available, aside from books. And that is a shame because reading offers a productive approach to improving vocabulary and word power. It is advisable to indulge in at least half an hour of reading a day to keep abreast of the various styles of writing and new vocabulary.

It is observed that children and teenagers who love reading have comparatively higher IQs. They are more creative and do better in school and college. It is recommended that parents to inculcate the importance of reading to their children in the early years. Reading is said to significantly help in developing vocabulary, and reading aloud helps to build a strong emotional bond between parents and children. The children who start reading from an early age are observed to have good language skills, and they grasp the variances in phonics much better.

Reading helps in mental development and is known to stimulate the muscles of the eyes. Reading is an activity that involves greater levels of concentration and adds to the conversational skills of the reader. It is an indulgence that enhances the knowledge acquired, consistently. The habit of reading also helps readers to decipher new words and phrases that they come across in everyday conversations. The habit can become a healthy addiction and adds to the information available on various topics. It helps us to stay in-touch with contemporary writers as well as those from the days of yore and makes us sensitive to global issues.

Yes, (no surprises there then) at the very least it is important. But if you own or are planning on owning your own business, it is absolutely essential.

If you are an employee having strong values of hard work and diligence will pay you dividends if you are with the right company. As an employer myself 3 of the key factors I am looking for straight away in staff are, honesty, positive attitude and a good work ethic.

Without these key attributes potential staff are simply non-starters with us !

If you own or want to own your own business, the chances of any real and lasting success, without a really good work ethic are extremely unlikely. The likelihood of failure, huge.

Now I don't believe we are born with or with out a work ethic - I believe it develops (or doesn't) over time. Perhaps largely influenced by our upbringing and associations in our more formative years.

If in all honesty you do not consider your self to have or have had a good work ethic - don't worry ! If you want it you can have it, starting right now.

This ability to change our own lives through education, choices we make and free will, is what separates us from the animals. How neat is that !

If you want to succeed in business the ability to work hard and apply yourself is essential.

I know from my own experience that you can develop a tremendously good work ethic over a period of time if you practice self discipline - and do what you need to do.

If you're not sure what that is here are a few ideas to get started with:

- Educate your self about what a good work ethic is and what you have to do to acquire it.
- Associate with people who already have it and see what makes them different.
- Read articles on what it is and how to obtain it.
- Take your own inventory and see what's holding you back, get rid of bad habits and move forward.
- Remember, if nothing changes, then nothing changes.

Make the right choices and changes that you need to make - and start today.
You are sure to get the, oh so dreaded weakness question and anyone that could ever hope to be successful in an interview should be prepared to answer it.

The Awareness Test

Many interviewers use this question so that the person they are interviewing gets put on the spot and has trouble finding an answer. The timing is important as they will be asking you questions about your extracurricular activities and suddenly the question about your greatest weaknesses is presented for you to answer.

The interviewer is using this question to gather information about how much awareness you have of your surroundings and how you pick up and move forward even when you are being asked some fairly stressful questions. If your answer to the question is very appropriate for the position then you may have just moved past some of the more qualified applicants that have a better education or experience background.

Exhausted Approach

So what is the best way to answer the weakness question? Well, you should defiantly go in another direction if you have thought about the most conventional approach that says you should take a weakness and twist the words so that it becomes a very valuable strength. As an example, if you were to tell the interviewer that your greatest weakness is that you are a perfectionist, they are likely to assume take this as a sign that you will not be very effective in delegating out responsibilities.

This approach has been played out all too often and the interviewers tend to see it as being shallow. IN essence, any weakness is just that, a weakness no matter how you try to spin it.

It is also not recommended that you make mention of a weakness that does not apply to the position that you are currently interviewing for. If you are interviewing for a position as a computer programmer and you answer the weakness question stating that you are too reliant on the spell check on your computer, the interviewer will surely see that you are really not the person for the job that they have open.

It is never a good idea to present yourself as arrogant by stating that you have no weaknesses at all. Being confident is important but if you are egotistical the interviewers will surely be turned off, especially if the position you are applying for is for a junior role. Everyone knows that there is no person alive that has no weaknesses at all.

Tested and Tried Tips

We have covered many of the answers to the weakness question that are simply no good so now it is time to get to the answers that do work. It is important that these tips will help no matter what the position a person is applying for.

You should start by doing some research about the company and the job that you are applying for and find out what their corporate culture is. This will give you the insight needed to form your answer in a way that will be fitting for the company. An example would be if you found out that the prospective position is with a company that is very democratic in their processes. You could then say that your weakness is that you had a challenging time adjusting to the management hierarchy in your previous management position.

You should also have an answer in mind about what your weakness would be prior to getting into the interview setting. You should have a certain weakness in mind that you have figured out how to spin into something that the interviewer will consider to be strength in the job that you are applying for. Your ultimate goal in the answer that you give is to show that you have grown past the weakness and are improving yourself. The interviewer will be able to see your go getter attitude and will surely be impressed by it.

Another approach is to mix your story with some humor. You should remember that the interviewer is also human and they probably enjoy a well told story as much as you do. You must be sure to keep the story relative to the job that you are seeking, though, and if you are successful you will surely move to the top of the list of applicants.

Another great tip is to be honest and to answer the questions honestly. People that administer interviews are experienced in reading a person to see if they are making up the weakness off of the top of their heads or if they are sincere. This will also help you when you are asked to give more detail about the answer and you will not find yourself backed into a corner.

You should also keep your answers simple and to the point. If you elaborate too much you may find that you are being asked questions about your weakness that you are not fully prepared to give an answer to. You should come up with just one or two weaknesses that you have worked to overcome in the past and give very brief answers about them.

The last, and probably most important, is to relax. Each and every interviewer will expect that the person they ask this question of will have a weakness. You have nothing to hide from them as they know up front that no one is perfect.

The job weaknesses interview question is a question that many people struggle with but you should be ready to give your answer and be prepared. If you have completed your research, written up your answer and then spent some time rehearsing it you will be on the road to impressing the interviewers for sure.
It's a New World Out There

In the old days, (2 years ago) if you were searching for a job you looked in a newspaper and then you faxed or mailed (by post) your resume. My, how times have changed.

It is no longer enough to conduct a one-dimensional job search.

The lines of communication and the avenues available for networking these days can be mind boggling. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn, and Blogs: social media has taken on epic proportions and shows no signs of slowing down. Connections are being made and relationships formed over a Twitter hashtag. So how can you use this to your best advantage in your job search?

A Professional Resume. Your resume is often the first impression a potential employer may get of you. Your ability to sell yourself here is crucial. And it's not about you; a recruiter is not reading your resume because he wants to find out about you, he is reading it because he wants to know what you can do for him. That is a fine distinction, but one that you should keep in mind when writing your resume.
Blogs are Golden. If you can write engaging content, with relevant information, you will have a following. If you are in Sales and Marketing, write about current trends or review the latest software. If you're an Administrative Assistant, write a series on organizing your office or how to put together a company newsletter. People will begin to view you as an "expert". You are now making connections that could bring opportunities in any number of exciting ways.
LinkedIn. With a user base of over 60 million, LinkedIn is the premier business and professional networking site. You have the ability to build and customize your professional profile, making yourself instantly visible to thousands of potential partners, clients, employers and associates. If you have a LinkedIn profile and you Google yourself, chances are you will come up on the first page, near the top. Because of LinkedIn's rankings in search results, you have instant visibility when you are being searched.
Twitter. Sometimes it's hard to get into the loop with Twitter but if you persevere you will uncover some great resources. A few accounts that are job related are @jobsearch, @jobsfeed and @indeed. Follow people, comment, and engage in the community and you will develop a network of people who know of you and your work.
Network. Let me say that again, Network, and then Network some more. When you are done with that, Network. With so many qualified people out of work right now, competition has never been greater. Human Resource departments look at hundreds of resumes that basically spout out the same trite phrases and keywords, they begin to blend together. It is much easier for the hiring manager to pick someone that has a connection or has been recommended by someone that does. Be that Someone!
Finally, know that as you are using social media to find a job, recruiters and hiring managers are also using these sites to find talent. Your user name, posts and images should all reflect the type of person you want to be perceived as...by anybody. Take a moment to review your online presence and remove anything that is questionable.
However, if you feel you have gone above and beyond what has been required of you, then you might need to take matters into your own hands and ask for a bigger raise. There are ways you can do this so you actually get the raise. There also are ways you should not go about asking for a raise. Sometimes is helps more to know what not to do in this type of situation. The first thing you should not do is expect too much. If you go into the meeting asking for way more than you know you deserve, you actually could leave the meeting not getting anything.

Another thing that should be avoided when you are asking for a raise is asking when your boss is having a bad day. It typically is easy to tell when your boss is stressed out or simply having a bad day. It always is a bad idea to ask for a raise on these days because most bosses say no just because they do not have the time or patience to deal with it right now. You also should not just ask your boss for a raise out of the blue. You always want to request a meeting with your boss. You do not necessarily have to tell them what the meeting pertains, but just scheduling it lets them know you have something to discuss.

Scheduling a meeting also gives you the chance to gather facts and reasons why you should get the raise. You do not want to go into the meeting just demanding a raise without any information to back it up. If the only response you can give when your boss asks you why you deserve the raise is because you want it, then you most likely will not get it. You also should not get confrontational if your boss does not agree to give you the raise. This only hurts your chances at receiving a raise in the future.

It also is important not to threaten your boss if you are not given a raise. Many people think it is a good idea to tell their boss they will quit if they do not get a raise. This is something that should be avoided at all costs. Regardless of what you think, you are not indispensable. You can be replaced and your boss most likely would rather replace you than deal with an employee who is not dedicated to the company. Actually knowing what to avoid when you ask for a raise can help you get the raise either now, or in the future.
Write a "Thank You" letter that communicates appreciation for their time and interest in you. This is an invaluable reflection of your good character, and provides you an opportunity to express the things you wish you had said during your meeting. Offer new information such as copies of articles/references, news clippings, or work samples that substantiates your claims.

Here is your opportunity to send articles and documents of interest to employers. It also gives you an opportunity to mention those things that you forgot during the interview. However, make sure to keep it simple. Stress three or four reasons why you are the right person for the position.

End the letter by confirming your next appointment. This letter should be similar to your cover letter in style, but you should now clearly state how your top qualifications match their specific requirements. Your follow up letter is almost always read from the beginning to the end. Therefore, it needs not to be brief. Have someone else edit the final version for you.

Example:

"Thank you for your time last Tuesday. It was a pleasure meeting you and learning about your department's goal to bid $100 million in building projects over the next twelve months. It came as a surprise that you were the builders on the Tampa Commerce Building. I understood that Jones Construction Co. did all the work for Powell Enterprises. You should be proud of securing that contract.

After meeting with you and your staff, I am even more convinced that our philosophies on the marketplace - and the way to approach bidding - are exceptionally compatible. My training in the use of Timberline computer estimating will be well suited to the new software you've implemented. I also think my three years of management experience as Chief Estimator, and graduate business degree, fits well into your position profile.

I found it particularly interesting that most of your staff competes in the a softball league. Did you know that they could use a Center Fielder like me? I was pleased with your A.G.C. involvement; your chapter supports the Young Leader of the Year program. As you know, I was given that award in 1988.

My wife Mary and I have given this opportunity a great deal of thought, and we both feel ready to move back to Tampa. I would like to meet with you again next Thursday to ask a few more questions. At that time, I would like to show you a sample bid of mine that I feel will be of interest to you. Please call to let me know if you have an extra few minutes on that day. As an addendum, I am attaching a copy of the article that the A.G.C. wrote about me receiving Young Leader of the Year plaque. I'm also enclosing a sample of my work on the Talbert School project that we discussed. Once again, Fred, it was a pleasure meeting with you. I look forward to seeing you on Thursday."
Here are the down and dirty tips to pull it together at the last minute.

1. Look at the job posting you are applying for, and develop sound bites that address the needs of the employer. Think of examples where you demonstrated the skills that appear in the job posting and develop answers that clearly show an employer that you are the perfect candidate for this position. All sound bites should be 2-3 minutes in length.

2. Use the TODAY acronym to develop additional sound bites of your experiences. TODAY stands for Teamwork, Overcoming Obstacles, Duties of your past positions, Achievements, Your strengths and weaknesses. Remember to clearly describe exactly what you did in each situation. The employer is hiring you, not the other people in your story.

3. Research the company. Search the internet for any recent press releases and check out the company's website. Know what they do, and develop some idea as to how the position you are hiring for fits within the company.

4. Think of questions to ask an interviewer. Look at the job posting and your research about the company and think of 3-5 questions you can ask during the interview. What are you curious about? Do they manufacture a product you are familiar with, or never even knew existed before you started to research the company? Where does this department fit in the grand scheme of the company? What projects is the department currently working on?

5. Lastly, prepare answers to the following questions: Tell me about yourself, Why did you leave your last position, or why are you looking for a new job, Why should I hire you, and The Salary Question. You know that these questions will be asked in one form or another, so there is no excuse to not have prepared an answer.

And that's it. Interviewing is just that simple when it's broken into it's simplest components. Focus on preparing answers to all of the scenarios above, and you will be ahead of the game. Remember to clearly articulate in each and every sound bite exactly what you did. Practice with a tape recorder to critique yourself, or with a friend to repeat back to you exactly what you did in a situation to make sure you're preparing correctly.

The answer is simple; "YES!"

The human race judges one another on appearance and whether you like it or not, you will be judged as an expression of who you are and your approach to work.

This does not mean, however, that beauty and good looks will get you through the door. It won't. But what you wear and how you present yourself will be viewed by the interviewer as a measure of your status, confidence and worth.

It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish the dress code according to the company. Sometimes creative industries can have a more relaxed and informal approach to dress, however, this does not mean that a professional look is not required. The right image is going to be one that helps the employer easily visualise you as one of their team and reassures them you could represent the company appropriately as a member of their staff. If in any doubt, contact the company's HR department for advice or look at the company website or literature to see how people are dressed.

Some basic pointers on how you can come across well to a potential employer with your personal image are given below:

Invest in a new, high quality outfit which fits well and makes you feel comfortable. If you are constantly struggling with the cut of your suit this will come across to the interviewer and make you look distracted.
Try to reflect the look of the business and office that you are entering. If the organisation is high powered and contemporary try to convey a creative and dynamic look making sure that you are on trend. Should the business be of a more traditional nature, a classic look such a pin-stripe suit will make you fit right in and already give you a look of being one of the team.
For organisations with a more relaxed dress code getting the interview look right can be a little more problematic. The suit and tie option may be a big faux pas. Instead it may be preferable to opt for a smart, coordinating outfit. Jeans are rarely seen as appropriate attire for an interview, even if worn by staff members on a regular basis. If in doubt, seek advice for the company before the interview.
It goes without saying that outfits should be clean, lint free and intact - no missing buttons, fraying hems or ladders in tights. Remember you could be sat in the interview for anything up to 90 minutes and your appearance will be noticed within this time.
Hair should be neat and up to date, nothing too fussy or unmanageable. If you colour your hair ensure that it is freshly done before the interview.
Accessories such as handbags or briefcases should be smart in order to reflect your appearance and show how organised you are. Jewellery should be unfussy and make-up should be subtle as should perfume or aftershave.
Good grooming is a must have, no matter what type of organisation you are looking to go into. Men should be either clean - shaven or have a neatly trimmed beard. Clean hands and nails, deodorant and fresh breath are all essential.
If you are unsure about your look before an interview ask for an opinion - preferably from someone that will be honest and give constructive criticism where needed.

The term "you should never judge a book by its cover" does not apply when it comes to your personal image and an interview. The way in which you present yourself can strongly influence a potential employer's perceptions of you, the way in which you will work, your ability to carry out the tasks given and the way in which you will fit in within the company. Get this right and you have already nudged that door open a little. Get it wrong and you may find yourself reading this post again.
That includes making an impressive and remarkable impression. Is reading a lot of details on interview Do's and Don'ts giving you a headache? Basically, all you need to do is follow these 3 easy steps:

1. Impress through Your Resume

The closest reference of you, that your possible employers are going to see, is your resume. Be clear about the things that you are going to add in it. Resume templates or professionals can help you in preparing your resume if you're not so confident in making your resume on your own.

Do not forget to include your application or cover letter in submitting your resume. The important details that should not be missing in your resume are the following:

Desired position in the company: Be honest about the position you are applying for. It should be delivered in a straightforward, but professional manner. There's no need to put off a possible employer with an arrogant air about you.

Necessary background information: Date of birth, address, and contact numbers are just some of the relevant details about you that are needed.

Your strengths: skills and accomplishments. Put your best foot forward. It's always helpful to do that. Some companies go directly to the skills department of an applicant's resume, so take note of that.

Past experience or exposure to a former job: This isn't really necessary especially with those who are just starting to look for a job, but recommendations from former employers could also give some added references about you.

Correct format, spelling, and error-free details. This is simple. A good impression also entails good language skills.)

2. The Look

Having an impressive resume doesn't stop there. When you are called back for an interview, you have to look ready to be hired. That means, dressing up the part. Many clothing stores offer assistance on what to wear during a job interview.

Business-like appearances and corporate outfits are usually the trend in showing up on interviews. Don't stop with the clothes on your back. Your expression and body should manifest a good disposition. From head to toe, and from outside to inside, you have to look serious and committed.

3. Before, During, and After the Interview

Come a few minutes earlier on your scheduled interview. Give yourself time to breathe and condition yourself before an interview. During the interview itself, continue being relaxed and at ease. Be confident and at the same time be conscious or extra aware of the flow of the conversation between you and the interviewer.

A week after the interview, it won't hurt you if you try checking up on your 'status' as an applicant. That is, if you still haven't received a notice of your standing. Be professional about it and don't sound pushy.

Make sure to include these secrets to finding a job in the process.

*** Make a "to-do" list for each day ***

It is amazing what can be accomplished when you are organized during your job search. So make a list and follow it each day of the week.

A great way of doing this is with Outlook tasks, especially since you can setup each task to be recreated the next day. I'll be honest. I'm not fond of lists.

However, when there is work to be done there is nothing better than a well functioning list to keep you on track with your goals for that day.

*** Search online for opportunities ***

From job boards to social networking sites, looking for work online is certainly something that you should consider.

I heard about one person who created a Google AdWords PPC Pay-Per-Click campaign focused on nothing other than finding the right job.

NOTE: When using job hunting tips like this one, be sure to keep going instead of letting the social networks bog you down. Otherwise you'll find the day has passed you by and you have very little to nothing to show for it.

*** Put a P.S. on your cover letter ***

Job searching tips like this one might seem strange but it works. Think about it.

When you get a junk letter in the mail or email, how many times does your eye hit that P.S. before you can get it to file 13? You may not believe it, but if you have taken time to actually look at the letter that P.S. is almost always viewed even if it is subconsciously.

Same thing goes with employment opportunities.

Perhaps it is because people think that a P.S. must be important, not sure. But I do know that it works and works incredibly well in driving attention to your resume.

*** Make sure your home phone and cell phone have voice mail ***

Employers are busy. If they cannot leave a message you might not even know about the missed opportunity as that might be enough for them to go on to the next candidate.

When you do make voice mail available be sure that it sounds professional.

Better yet, try to answer the phone when it rings every time when your job search is on.

*** Hire A Pro ***

And consider hiring a professional consultant to help you find that job you are looking for.
