I have been completely and photographically negligent this past week. Maybe I've been actually paying attention to things that pay the bills (rather than create them), but I haven't taken out the SLR... and while I've been carrying the LX3 around with me, producing only a few grab shots here and there.Though I should step up my game this week; with Scott Kelby's World-Wide Photowalk this coming Saturday, and your's truly the Ottawa "leader."

Eden Revisited

I was very fortunate this week to have one my photos critiqued on the esteemed David DuChemin's Within the Frame Podcast episode 6. He looked at a previous photo I had submitted to the Flickr group of Eden.This is the sort of thing I need - I CRAVE it. Not the typical "this sucks" or "this is great" but why... and maybe you can't quantify those things (I know I have great difficulty with it), but it's why some of us need to have that done by a working pro. Someone who knows what they're talking about.And I truly believe David does. I recently read and finished his book and am definitely a fan. I am honoured that he chose my photo and all this critique does for me is make me CRAVE more, and do better.update: you can watch the podcast directly here!

Another 1-light shot from fishing in Northern Ontario. This one's of Mel's cousin Annie (can you tell she's had two kids? I can't.)She's, uh, holding onto my rod.Same premise as the shot from a few days ago, had a 580ex with the Lumiquest SBIII on top - this time I was able to use the setting sun as balance in most of my images. Depending on the way we were facing, the sunset was either rim and the flash became key, or the flash was fill on one side as the sun was key to the other... though the one time I tried to get the flash as rim a slight bump almost sent my J-clamp into the drink (it with the 580exII with a PWII..hmmn, almost $1,000 right there), so I stopped clamping it to the side of the boat after that.

The window's on the plane were scratched and plastic, so there's a lot of "stuff" blocking the view - but I really appreciated certain parts of Ontario as we flew over them. Other parts (Timmins), have less to appreciate, you can see the mines from space... so from the plane they are an even deeper scar on the earth.

I'm confident that the weather has no idea what it's doing. This entire week has called for mixed showers. And while, yes, there has been a mix - the mix has been a cocktail between night and day rain. Last night was a choice example, having run out onto the dock to snap what I could (while the rain was coming down - thank you 1D and your weather sealing).Since I wear glasses and couldn't see anything anyways, I was hoping to take a panorama of the lake... but the rain that was battering my eye-wear was equally covering my L-glass and too many smears and droplets nixed that plan.

Yeah people! Owen caught a fish about 10 minutes out onto the lake, and I got to play with my mini-tt1 transmitter shooting at 1/400th instead of the LAME 1/250th of a second like I was constrained to PRE new mini-tt1 transmitter.Best accessory today? No, not the mini-tt1 transmitter, the Justin Clamp; keeping my shit out of the water since 2009!

Lost

I got lost last night.It wasn't anything terrible, I just took the wrong bus (well, the right bus, but in the wrong direction)and ended up at the last stop. Ottawa's still a bit new to me in some areas, so I wasn't entirely impressed to find out service in that area was every 40 minutes. I bummed around and took many pictures of randomness; much of which I deleted, but it did show me that I'm really not using the LX3 to the fullest, that I need to push my own skill set to work better with a wide lens. LordMel knows I have enough of them on the SLR.
