Our ministry proudly announces the availability of ”Go Therefore . . . A Guide To Short Term Missions”. Finally, the time has come for this work to be released. This is not a book about missionary experiences. However, Jeff does share some experiences as they relate to the topics in each chapter. “Go Therefore” is a handbook which addresses the practical concepts and processes regarding the mission field and the calling of God upon each of our lives. Though this book is written from the perspective of going to foreign destinations, the concepts and applications are just as relevant whether you are called to go overseas permanently or to walk next door to your neighbor’s house. There are people waiting for you to speak of God’s love and plan for their lives.

So many times, people are stopped in their tracks because they just aren’t sure of the next step. ”Go Therefore” takes the indecision away and helps you go through each of the steps necessary to ensure that all the details have been considered. In addition, there are valuable resources within this text to help you with your missions projects, such as a sample fund-raising letter and response form, packing list, and a comprehensive listing of embassies of foreign nations.

This is not only a “helps” book for those who have already recognized the call of God upon their lives, but a challenge to those who have passed on missions work, thinking it is just for pastors and evangelists. The work of the Lord is not for a chosen few, but for all of us.

Here are just a few entries of what others are saying about “Go Therefore . . . A Guide To Short Term Missions”:

“”Go Therefore” is a very handy and practical tool for those who are interested in going on mission trips. Jeff Ferguson explains the purpose of missions and takes you from start to finish from before you start the trip, to preparing for the trip, to being on the field, and even to when you arrive back home. He gives examples from his own experience on the field as well as many helpful resources to fully inform and prepare you for your missions trip.”

“Here it is! Jeff Ferguson has written the most practical guide to short term missions I have ever seen. You will see right away that this is not just another hand book about missions, but rather a practical guide to help a person cover all the bases that make for a successful missions trip. Jeff writes from a lot of experience as his missions trips have taken him many times around the globe. If you are planning any type of missions trip or ever plan to take a missions trip in the future, this book is a must read for you. Thank you, Jeff, for allowing God to use you to write this hand book!”

This post is a re-production from my pastor friend A.B. Bennett in Pawnee, IL. Every work day (Monday through Friday), he attempts to reach out to his congregation and touch their lives through the usage of modern technology; in this case, email. Sound odd? Perhaps in today’s world it is not the usual workings of the typical pastor. But I believe that he has “caught” something in his spirit that is profoundly touching his church body. Since starting this particular ministry outreach, he has seen a tremendous effect, not only upon his flock, but responses from people world-wide because the impact has prompted his people to reach out to others outside of their four walls. This leads me to the reason for today’s post.

Today’s eDevo was entitled “It’s Here!”

Deuteronomy 3: 28 (NIV) ”But commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he will lead this people across and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see.”

I went to my mailbox in the church office and found a package addressed to me. I saw who it was from and I began to get very excited about what was inside. I have been anticipating this arrival almost like a grandpa anticipates the arrival of his first grandchild. I opened the package and pulled out what I had been expecting, Jeff Ferguson’s book on missons. What? A book? Are you really comparing a book to a grandchild? Yes, I am, when you understand the story.

Jeff and I have been accountability partners for a while. We meet once a month at a coffee shop and challenge each other with God’s Word. We pray for and encourage each other in these monthly sessions. We have also seen this book grow from an idea of teaching a weekend seminar on missions to what I held in my hands – the book. It was a baby, a dream, a once seemingly impossible project, now a reality. I held in my hands Jeff’s book, “Go Therefore . . . A Guide To Short Term Missions.” I have been waiting for this book. I plan on using it here at P.A.G. My name is even in it. Thanks, Jeff! It has some of my spiritual DNA. It has my encouragement, my loving critics, and my prayers. It may not burp and spit up, but it is living in the hands of God, Who will use it to equip His church to reach the lost all over the world. Now do you see why I am so excited?

God told Moses to encourage Joshua in his assignment. For it was Joshua who would lead God’s people to inherit the promised land. That is a huge task, but through the encouragement of Moses and God’s faithfulness, Joshua was successful. What is inside of you that God wants to bring to life? A ministry? A book? A class? A business? A career? What plans has God put in you for you to trust Him with? What encouragement are you receiving from others around you to go for it? Just like my friend, Jeff, we all need people in our life that encourage us to go forward into the realm of making the impossible possible. We need to be in a church that provides the atmosphere of faith to believe God for big things. We need a prayer life that hears the voice of God and obeys. We need to know God’s Word as it directs our paths. We need to believe in each other. Get away from the nay-sayers. Move back from those who cannot leave the past. Ask God to bring His servants around you to help you accomplish His goals for your life.

Congratulations, Jeff! It is an honor to have you as my friend. I am proud of you and look forward to what God has for you in the future. This is just the beginning. If you are serious about missions and want to go to places both home and abroad, I highly recommend Jeff’s book. You can contact Jeff at www.JeffFerguson.org. Have a great weekend!

We have just recently returned from Burkina Faso, where the Spirit of the Lord has moved mightily. For two weeks, we counseled with and prayed for people over a multitude of needs. Together with our Burkinabe brothers and sisters (a team of 6), we ministered to 249 people during a seven day period.

During this 53.5 hours of intense ministry, more than 70 people gave their lives to Jesus. Among those who were born-again were Muslims, Catholics and animists. The Lord also moved in a very powerful way, answering prayer requests and healing of all types of infirmities and maladies.

Lynne and I consider it a privilege to serve the Lord in such a capacity. All glory, all honor, and all credit go only to the Lord God Almighty.

Within the next week, there should be pictures posted and possibly even excerpts from the journal that was kept while we were there. Be sure to check back.
