Reminder: Church of the Ascension has a fish fry EVERY Friday during Lent! The meal costs $8.00 for adults. All proceeds go to the Parish to fulfill Parish needs; provided by the Knights of Columbus ("KofC").

The fish fry is at 5PM.

The fish fry DOES feature baked fish options for the health-conscious. This is all you can eat. Join fellow parishioners and parishioners-to-be in the parish hall (Cafeteria) in the lower level. Beer and wine is served, and is included, although there is a donation cup at the bar.

Stations of the Cross (Scriptural Way of the Cross) follow in the chapel at 7PM, usually lasting about twenty minutes. Do not worry about procedure; just grab a station guide (at the Baptismal font), and read from it and follow everyone else (essentially, genuflect when others do - there are no phrases to remember as it is all in the guide - just feel comfortable).

The only responsorial is "Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world." During this time, devotees genuflect.

This is an incredible devotion in following the Passion. Remember to place the station guides back at the font as you exit, as these are reused; the parish has a limited supply.

RCIA Photos This Weekend

All: Please be prepared to have your picture taken this weekend after the Rite of Welcome and Acceptance. If you have anything against photography, we understand. However, nobody has objected in the past! (The pressure is on now, isn't it?) :)

We will use them to make a photo directory, so that you can have a full-color "yearbook" to add to your personal keepsakes. As you progress through RCIA, this photo directory will also help acquaint you to one another more (and remember names, too!)

Creed - November 8, 2009

Today, our RCIA session was led by Fr. Tom. The session was on "Nicene Creed". This session described the history and the petitions within the Creed which is said at every Sunday Mass. Handouts were provided which detailed the Creed, and other traditional prayers.

Fr. Tom detailed a diagram, which was much better than my computer generated reproduction, but I hope you can get the general idea:

Salvation History/All Saints Day - November 1, 2009

Today, our RCIA session was led by Fr. Matthew. The session was on "Salvation History". This session listed the covenants which were observed throughout the progression of salvation means prior to Christ. A handout was provided which detailed these means.

If you have reached this blog, most likely you are involved in the Church of the Ascension's 2009-2010 RCIA process! Congratulations, this is the beginning of the end, as you set forth on a journey to help better know Christ and His Church! Keep informed on this blog, as we post our RCIA sessions here each week in the form of Podcasts, in case you missed class (or just missed something in general). As always, if we've missed something, we encourage you to ask us questions - we may not have all of the answers, but we'll try. That is what we're here for!
