Khantoke Dinners & Cultural Shows at Chiang Mai

On my first night in Chiang Mai, I had Khantoke Dinners & Cultural Shows. Khantoke is a Lanna Thai tradition, not just something invented for tourists' amusement. Thai Lanna was a civilized Kingdom that existed during the 18th - 20th B.E. Centuries in the area of present-day Northern Thailand. King Mengrai was the king who founded the capital and the dynasty. He accomplished and contributed to the prosperity of the kingdom in several aspects especially in political science, Buddhist religion, art and culture. There are several traditions that eventually became northern heritage one of which is Khantoke. Even today khantoke implies dinner or lunch which is offered by a host to guests at various ceremonies or parties, example in the home or weddings, housewarmings, celebrations, novice ordinations, life extensions or funerals. At the temple, celebrations for buildings in a temple's compound namely, bhote, wiharn, sala, Grand Sermons annual festivals such as Khao Pansa, Og Pansa, Loy Krathong, and new year.

The Khantoke Dinners included their traditional soup as appetizer and then The meal is served on a wooden pedestral tray call "Khantoke", and the dishes are all authentic northern Thai delicacies such as Gaeng Hang Lay, a gingery pork curry; the chili-tomato-minced pork dip called Naam Prik Ong, and the crunchy pieces of pork scratching or Kaeb Moo, for dipping into the rich gravy.

While I'm enjoying the meal, there are performances of dance and music. They started with Fon Thiean (Thai Candle Dance) then Ram Dab (Thai Sword Dance) after that followed by dances by ethnic hill tribe group such as Karen, Hmong, Lahu, Akha, Mien and Lisu each in their own distinct dress and traditions and wear their own unique silver ornaments. Some Places have cultural performance from 4 different regions of Thailand. The distinct identities of tradition and the hill tribe groups is the entertainment theme during the Khantoke Dinner.

Feel like a king right? Well there is one hiccup, for 650 Baht, the dancers were keep on repeating and the lady or maybe she men or maybe even transsexual if my eye don't judge them me wrong, they had flat tummies yet they want to show us....

Celebrating my New Year at Chiang Mai, Thailand

Yesterday, I've just came back from my tiring trip from Chiang Mai and slept for almost 1 day...

It was a nice trip though. So Chiang mean city and Mai means new in Thai and overall it is a new city in northern Thailand.

In every new year eve and new year, many people will flocked in to northern Thailand to released sky lantern. In Thai โคมลอย(khom loi), while in Chinese 孔明燈(Kongming lanterns) or in Japanese 天灯(tentou)...

Tourist like me stayed in Chiang Mai surely need to grabbed my opportunity thus asked my tour guide to buy some for me and travel group.

After making my wishes for my 2010 resolution and then letting those sky lantern go, later I'm heading to night market to taste some of their street foods and buy some souvenirs... On the way there, I saw an array of random sky lanterns floating up on sky with the city building views is like fireflies flying on concrete jungle...

They just took my breath away. At one moment, I'm thinking one of those is mine...

You need to be there to experience the view....

So we went to Dataran Pahlawan and Mahkota Parade to search for her Pink Sony. LOL

I love the name Pink Sony. From now on I'm calling her camera Pink Sony...

Pink Sony. Guess what?! We finally found her Pink Sony in Pakard MP O-N-L-Y.

Then on our way to get our car, we stumbled across Jacker's hot-air balloon ready to fly...

So I grabbed my sister's Pink Sony and try her twilight mode.

LOL cunted.... My sister so happy. I guessed she cannot sleep tonight...

Thanks to our P1 W1MAX|WiMax Malaysia , the word 'Potong' bring a whole new breath to it. It is so damn popular in our Malaysia culture. Even the era of ice-cream Potong lost badly to them....

But, never to forget Malaysia is still a Muslim country, so our doctors are taking this opportunity

2012: My Review

On the première day of 2012, I went to GSC@DP Melaka with Stephanie, Kelling and Evonne to watch this so called 'a must watch movie'.

I don't have time blog about it because I was having quiz the next day. This movie have definitely made an impact for this year box-office. Lots of people can't wait to watch this movie, GSC website down because 2012(deja vu from Transformer 2), movie theatre have to open extra hall and in fact after the movie many people loves this movie. Clearly it is much more better than Transformer 2 but I still think it is mediocre for me. At beginning the movie starts seem interesting as they briefly explain the theory and show 1 of the effects that causes the doomsday in 2012 from the Mayans, Egyptian and the 16th century alchemist, Nostradamus. As the movie goes on and I felt like the plot just didn't cut for the movie. They could've done so much more with it I think, especially with the fact that the exact date was predicted. The movie was more about saving lives, some emotional conflicts, some symbolism and some non-logical Hollywood director/producers try to defy the law of science. I'm sorry for those who really likes it. Last but not least, I love 2012 credit song,

This is my 3rd year in for my Telecommunication Engineering course and things are getting tougher. Now I truly understand why our wiser and older friends said we must score as in get 1st class because the 1st two year the subject we studied were basic, theoretical, and the things we studied were long time ago. Now the subjects are more to application.... It's so damn hard O_0

For the past 3 years, the coloured have been my companionship....

This is my 2nd trimester in 3rd year degree. The study weeks are only 8 weeks and next week 4

already and everyone are having their midterm. Now I want to wish all my friends....

Now need to study for my midterm already and my level 4 JLPT(Japanese Language Proficiency Test)

This post is specially dedicate for Java and no other than Java...

I'm going to write about the experiences I've gone though with this subject on my previous trimester.

I'm glad I've passed the subject with the grade higher than I expected

Wohoo!!

I may sound exaggerating in this post but it's true for most of my classmates in my University who took this subject will gone though this 3 stages. I don't know how other University had been through this 3 stages or not because it also influences by the lecturer himself or maybe we engineering student are just Java programming noobs. The 3 stages we had gone through has an official name:

The 3 Stages of Neurological Attack from Java Technology

Stage 1 - HAMMERED

The very 1st day of this subject when the lecturer 1st introduction of this subject he have already

'Hammered' us about how hard is this subject. If I can remember, he told us 70% of the total

people in this class will fail this subject in the end of this trimester.We like WHAT?! don't care!
It is our 3rd year in degree and usually prerequisite subject lecturer usually 'Hammered' us but
we manage to go though without going though 'Screwed' then 'Shit!' but we never knew writing
Java programming language is hard to write. Then he also ask to drop this subject if you feel
you cannot understand this subject... WTF!? Finally to finish up his introduction, he present us
his "Just Do It" motto where he taught us what we cannot write stop us from what we can write
and his "Just Do It" graph... Do you get what I mean get picture?? number of student at the
y-axis and grades(A-F) at the x-axis.

Stage 2 - SCREWED

After our brain being 'Hammered' by his beautiful introduction, the word in your thought will
strike 'Screwed' are we taking the correct subject? Since that day our life is pretty 'Screwed' up
until we we finish our final. Imagine you have 3 midterms and each of the midterms you failed
miserable I mean bad as low as 5/15. It is a exam to test how low you can go not how high you
can go... 'SCREWED'. Any how we have the determination to hold on despite the difficulties.
In the end it paid off. I'm glad.

Then, we are constantly 'Hammered' and 'Screwed' by the lecturer during the lecture class like
Java languages like boolean, String, JButton etc etc etc...

Stage 3 - SHITTED

Finally I shall explain the the meaning of 'Shitted'. After being 'Hammered' and 'Screwed' in
lecture class, we have to 'Shitted' those Java languages in our tutorial class or we attempted
any Java tutorials given by the lecturer. Then we continue 'Hammered' and 'Screwed' ourself in
lecture class. Then, 'Shitted' again for tutorials. Worse come to worse when we have to take
our midterms. The chapters accumulate for each midterm we are taking and we 'Shitted' even
hard to fill into sheet of papers.

At the end of the day our brain suffers The 3 Stages of Neurological Attack from Java
Technology. We are constantly 'Hammered', 'Screwed' and finally 'Shitted' very hard by the
subject but I guess I can pass this subject all thanks to my assignment and pure determination
and 'Just Do It'.

I hope next trimester no more programming subject, phobia already and hopefully no more eye

popping subjects.

Pan Grilled & Cod Fish

It do reminds me the fish I ate for my lunch at Takayama-shi(高山市) before me and my foster visiting UNESCO Traditional Straw House Village because you can eat the entire fish including bones. The taste is different. The one I ate in Japan was cooked with Teriyaki sauce but the one I ate at Simply Fish is pan grilled and dipped into mayonnaise for extra taste. Both do taste good though.

Back to my Japan Homestay Program, what really caught my eyes were not the Japanese girls of course. At there it was summer and it is beginning of summer. Usually around April -June 花菖蒲 or in English is Iris ensata or some people said it is a sword-leaved Iris is from iris family.
花菖蒲(hana-shoubu) which mean victory flower. Great name huh?! It grows on moist area and can withstand some dryness. The colour vary from purple, indigo and white.

Life in the fast lane

Ok! Life in a fast lane doesn't mean I'm driving a F1 but is about how fast time passes on someone life. Time is really precious and so do how we are treating the people around us. I've to focus too many thing until I've already fogotten the fun of blogging and taking photo.
Seriously I miss them so much I start reading some of my favourite's bloggers. Last semester is real tough especially the subjuct call "Java Technology", my I never got 5/30 for my midterm before. So damn hard that subject but I think I did a good job in my final. We will see how well I did when the result will out next week ^^
