The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, joined Office Administrators in a two-day workshop held at Farm View Hotel in Busia from 1^st to 2^nd April 2026. The workshop, themed “Unlocking Office Administrators’ Excellence,” brought together staff for reflection, learning, and professional growth.

In his keynote address, the Vice Chancellor challenged the administrators to strive for excellence in their roles. He inspired participants by sharing stories of notable individuals who began their careers as Office Administrators and, through dedication, resilience, and effective self-branding, rose to prominence in their respective fields.

Speaking during the opening session, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Development) Prof. John Makokha, underscored the critical role played by Office Administrators in the success of the University. He encouraged participants to embrace the workshop as an opportunity for empowerment, noting that many of the institution’s achievements are a direct result of their commitment and efforts. He expressed confidence that the training would further strengthen their capacity and enhance service delivery across departments.

The workshop adopted a blended learning approach, enabling participants to explore practical strategies for enhancing professional excellence. Discussions emphasized the importance of building strong professional relationships grounded in value creation rather than convenience, with a focus on continuous improvement and delivering impactful outcomes.

Participants benefited from a range of sessions facilitated by various University Officers, led by the Registrar (Administration and Human Resource) Dr. Ruth Mitalo who led sessions on the modern office administrator, code of conduct and ethics, safeguarding documents, and understanding University structures. On his part, the Finance Officer Dr. CPA Benjamin Oduori, guided participants on financial management topics including building an emergency fund, avoiding impulse purchases, and planning for unexpected costs.

The Director of the Office of Career Services Dr. Robert Wafula, addressed strategies for maintaining good mental health, while Mr. Wekesa Macdonald, ICT Officer explored emerging technological trends relevant to office administrators.
