The final battle was indeed a battle as Michael Connors & the Country Rockers; Relentless; Moon jr and Cottonmouth rocked us til we were ready to drop at Big Rock Candy Mountain in Jadwin. The dancers were still yelling for "more, more!" when Bootsy and Steve took the stage after a sizzlin' set by Cottonmouth to announce the Moon jr had taken the top prize and were $1200 richer. We'd like to wish Michael Connors the best of luck in Nashville where he's moving this week. We know he's got what it takes and the folks in Nashville are lucky to have a talent like his in their neighborhood. It was a bittersweet performance knowing it was the last from Michael and his band, The Country Rockers, and they went out in style with a killer rendition of Rocky Mountain Way by Joe Walsh. Relentless was...well...RELENTLESS as they thoroughly entertained the crowd and kept the dancers in motion for their entire set, which included a couple of original tunes as well as their usual energetic covers of such classics as Beatin' the Odds by Molly Hatchett and Missouri's  Movin' On. Mike Terry and Phil Borthacyre are two of the best front men around and they didn't disappoint us! Who knew Ozzy was in Jadwin, Missouri this weekend? To hear lead singer, Dennis "BASH" Laird,  was like listening to Ozzy at his best. This high energy band turned on their amps and let it go to the delight of Black Sabbath fans throughout the crowd who managed to keep up with the band's non-stop rock until the end, which came WAY too soon! What can you say about Moon jr except for "AWESOME!" Members of  this young band, which includes brothers Nathan and Lucas Showalter, has played together since 6th grade as Pauline's Basement and when drummer, Brian Taggart moved to St. Louis to pursue the life of a helicopter pilot, the band disappeared from public for awhile until drummer, Jon Ammerman connected with the remaining members and Moon jr was born. You know you're witnessing real talent when Augie Rolufs and Nathan Showalter switch from guitar to keyboard and back again. Augie plays a MEAN saxophone, too. Lucas and Jon on bass and drums respectively provide the backbone with a driving beat that never falters. We hope you guys will be back to defend your position next year at the 2012 KKID Battle of the Bands!
