Applications are now being accepted for The Harrisburg Internship Semester (THIS) for Fall 2018.

The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) sponsors a semester-long internship program for outstanding undergraduate students from the 14 PASSHE universities. Interns are appointed and serve for one regular semester (either Fall or Spring). The internship program provides students with a meaningful professional assignment as well as an enriching academic experience. Students also participate in an internship seminar that meets at the Dixon University Center and is supervised by a resident faculty member. The seminar integrates each student's work experience with a rigorous academic component. Students earn a total of 15 credits for the internship plus seminar. THIS offers a stipend to cover student expenses.

The Harrisburg Internship Semester is recommended for students who have completed their junior year of studies and is only available for students who can use the internship credits within their own program of study.

Duties:

Research, draft, and edit articles or press releases for the library’s newsletter and local publications to promote programs, materials, and services at the library

Contribute, manage, or edit library publications which include newsletters, handouts, reports, and materials for special events through writing, researching, editing, and layout
Create short write-ups describing event for submission to Community Events calendars

The Washington Center for Internships

Kutztown University is proud to announce a partnership with The Washington Center for the benefit of KU students participating in their nationally-recognized internship program in Washington, D.C.

To better support students and increase the number of students participating, the university now allocates a portion of the student’s tuition dollars toward the program. University students are able to participate in The Washington Center 1) at a reduced cost to them and 2) through a streamlined, one-payment process. In the past, participating students were required to pay separately, sending payments to both The Washington Center for their program and housing fees, and to Kutztown University, for its tuition and fees which was both cumbersome and costly for KU students.

A TWC Representative will visit on Monday, Sept. 26, with an information session at 2 p.m. in MSU 116. The representative will have an information table in the MSU Lobby from 10-2pm.

Kutztown College of Business (Summer 2016)

The Kutztown University College of Business is seeking summer interns for their MBA program. Students will be responsible for managing the social media presence of the MBA program. Duties will include writing social media content in various platforms, developing avatar and background images, writing profiles on faculty and alumni, and researching and writing reports about the online presence of other MBA programs in the region. In addition, students will write reports on the impact of the content they created by learning how to use industry-standard social media analytics software for monitoring purposes. Internships will start in May for summer I; one summer-long intern for nine credits is preferred, but multiple interns looking for three- or six-credit internships will be considered.

Writing Wrongs 2016: Call For Participants (Fall 2016)

Applications are now open for Writing Wrongs 2016.   Writing Wrongs will take place over Labor Day weekend 2016 (September 3-5), when a group of students will visit Easy Does It, Inc., a drug and alcohol treatment facility with locations in Reading and Leesport, PA. Lodging and meals will be provided.

Students will visit the treatment center each day during specified times to talk to residents. They may also talk to staff and gather information about what their duties. Students may attend 12-Step meetings and hear from community and political leaders about this epidemic of unprecedented proportions.

Through their participation, students will also be providing community service to Easy Does It by producing a professional publication that highlights the facility and its importance in the community.

Students participating will have the opportunity to:

participate actively in journalism and other fields outside of the school environment
address a prominent issue in society
produce print and news clips and photography for portfolios

By the end of the weekend, students will produce both a print and online version of a newspaper that sheds light on the issue of addiction in Reading through the stories of the residents and staff. A portion of the print newspapers become the property of Easy Does It for distribution to potential donors or other informational purposes. The remaining newspapers will be used as a tool to promote awareness and advocate for change.

 The online version, while containing the same articles, will also feature video clips and breakout articles. This edition, of course, has unlimited reach.  

Any undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a college or university in Fall 2016 may apply. Students studying

may be especially interested, although any student with talent in the required areas may apply. This year there are opportunities for social media managers.

APSCUF Government Public Relations / Communications Intern (Fall 2016 / Spring 2017)

APSCUF (Association of Pennsylvania State College & University Faculties), representing more than 6,000 faculty and coaches at Pennsylvania's 14 publicly owned schools, is seeking a junior or senior majoring in political science, communications, journalism, or a related field to serve as a government relations/communications intern at the state APSCUF office building at 319 N. Front St. in Harrisburg.

The APSCUF internship is a great opportunity for a student interested in government, politics, public affairs, journalism, or communications. APSCUF interns must be professional, self-motivated, and skilled communicators. Our recent interns have gone on to jobs in the legislature, lobbying, and the news media.

The student internship must be for academic credit un
der the supervision of a PASSHE (Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education) university faculty member. The successful applicant should have strong knowledge of government workings, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. APSCUF will pay $10 per hour and interns are expected to work 35 hours each week, Monday through Friday.

The Summer 2016 internship begins May 30, 2016, and concludes Aug. 12, 2016. The application deadline for the Summer 2016 internship was Feb. 19, 2016.

The Community Outreach Center is the center of volunteer service on the campus of Kutztown University. They are currently seeking Professional Writing majors for summer 2016 and fall 2016.

The candidate must have strong writing and editing skills and an interest in Professional Writing and Public Relations. Poster design and website (KUnited) experience a plus.

Responsibilities include writing and editing content for the center's brochures, social media sites, and the website; and writing news articles, press releases, and advertisements. This includes items for the Daily Brief and Bear Essentials. Other duties of related areas are possible, depending on the skill set and interest of the selected intern.
