The Farming is Cool Concert Tour in Mombasa The Farming is Cool Concert Tour will tomorrow be held in Mombasa to raise youth awareness to the opportunities of agribusiness and to change youth mindset on agribusiness. Amiran Kenya Poverty Eradication Ambassador Juliani, is the face behind the youth initiative. The Farming Is Cool tour has already covered Eldoret and Machakos and is now in Mombasa thid Friday 29th November 2013 at Cross Roads Fellowship in Nyali off Links road between Mamba Village and Wild Waters. All youths in Mombasa join @[484913751592576:274:Kenya Red Cross Society Mombasa] for the interactive empowerment seminar where individual youths and groups will spend 3 hours learning about technologies and funding availability. The Farming is Cool Tour will cover next Kisumu, Nakuru and the curtains come down in Nairobi. As part of the tour in every county, Artiste Juliani visits a Kenya Red Cross school where an Amiran Kenya Farmers Kit has been donated (kit includes greenhouse, drip irrigation, seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, training and agro-support) he also meets with Governors and county secretaries encouraging them to invest in youth empowerment through agribusiness. The tour also hosts youth seminars to enlighten youth on technologies, the YEDF AgriVijana Loan for modern agricultural technologies from Amiran funded by youth fund. A one day anti jigger campaign was organized by KRCS Kilifi Branch in partnership with different organizations that came together with a common objective of fighting jiggers menace in the larger Coast Region.
There have been a lot of stereotypes about jiggers, with others believing they are inherited or even witchcraft. The campaign was drawing a general approach in enlightening the public about jiggers through poems from some of the affected children, how they can be prevented and demonstrations on how to remove jiggers. In this particular campaign, school going children were the major target
Stakeholders organizing this event included: Rotary Kilifi, Pwani University, AHFYA Plus, Kenya Medical Research Institute, Ministry of Health and Coast Sea Survival. It was not going to be business as usual with over fifty schools and children in the community were to participate in this campaign.
Government officials graced the occasion and hailed efforts made by Kenya Red Cross in empowering communities. The campaign was climaxed by over 22,000 pupils from over 50 Schools receiving two pairs of shoes and a bar of soap. This little gift was to emphasize on the significance of putting on shoes and washing feet with soap.
We should borrow from this and impact positively on other people by sharing information on jiggers and how to eradicate them.
