New Times For The Society

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Thu, 06 Jan 2011 09:20:00 +0000

Over the last couple of weeks allot of things have been happening with the society, all of which will only add for the coming 2011 season. Firstly we would like to congratulate Michael Kavanagh for winning the player of the year title. All year seemed to dominated by Last years winner Chris Smart and John McNamara, but over the last few weeks and months the little terrier from Waterford put peddle to the metal and decided that he would take charge, winning at Fota and the final at Dundrum.

You may have also noticed that there has been a small change regarding the name of the society... For the last few years we have gone under the name of the Kaddyshack Membership programme . But over the last few weeks Kaddyshack Golf Have decided to relinquish the playing side of there business to concentrate on their membership programme more. Membership to the society will still be available for individuals through kaddyshack, so individuals can still avail of their membership benefits. But as from the end of this member year 31st of January 2011, The Society will be born and working independently from Kaddyshack Golf .

You may take note that due to the fact that we are now working as an independent registered society, that we have now got a new membership price structure for the coming season. Which you can read about on our membership page. Work is also currently underway in acquiring a Captain for 2011 and this person will soon be announced with their Vice Captain.

Events
For the new 2011 season, we will be still continuing with the Player of The Year challenge. This will still consist of 4 qualifying events, and a final at the end of year. But The final will only consist of 16 qualifiers. At a recent event it was proposed by members to try and play in the opens that clubs provide throughout the year. It was agreed that a complete list would be obtained and made available to members, so that they can decided if they would like to play in them. It was also agreed that 4 of these events per year would also act as society events. So if we had 12 or more players interested in playing in these opens.... then we would run our event along side the clubs open. Now, the prize giving wouldn't be held on that day but we would hold this at one of our own events at the end of the year.

The society has also undertaken with a new website which you are now seeing... All information relating to the society will be available on this site. But if you require more information, then you can contact us by either emailing at The Society or by calling Adrian on 087 9049433

In the not to distant future you will also be able to log on to our own facebook and twitter page, so you can keep up with the news that way....

Lastest News and Events

September the 4th, Fota Island - Cork.

On yet another swelteringly hot day, the Kaddyshack Golf Society travelled to the stunning course of Fota Island. With yet another massive turn-out, the course presented its self in immaculate condition with extremely fast greens and manicured fairways.

Who, over the final 8 holes decided to put together a wonderful 20 points, and carding 34 points to win on the back nine against the luckless Darren Power also from Waterford.

Fota Island Golf Club is just a few minutes drive from Cork City's international airport and passenger ferry terminal. Located in the heart of a 780 acre estate which is included in "The Inventory of Outstanding Landscapes in Ireland". The splendid woodlands are woven into three challenging championship courses which are very much in the traditional mode, featuring strategically placed bunkers and undulating putting surfaces.

The History of Fota Island Golf Club

It would appear that golf was first played at Fota Island as far back as the 1800's. In 1993, a new course was developed at Fota Island, designed by Irish Ryder Cup star Christy O'Connor Jr. and twice English Amateur Champion Peter McEvoy. While essentially a resort course, we have hosted a number of tournaments, including the Irish Club Professional Championship, the Irish PGA Championship and no fewer than three Irish Amateur Opens.

At the beginning of 1998 Fota Island Golf Club was under the direction of Jeff Howes Golf Designs upgraded to European Tour Standards. Following an 18 month multi-million Euro programme that saw the rebuilding of all 18 greens, the redevelopment of all tees and the redesign of several of the holes, the course reopened in September 1999. This paid dividends with the Deerpark Course playing host to the Irish Open in 2001 & 2002, won by Colin Montgomerie and Soren Hansen respectively.

The renowned Fota Island Golf Academy opened in 2006, in time for the European Seniors Tour’s Irish Open which was won by Sam Torrance. July 2007 saw the addition of 9 more holes designed by Jeff Howes. The Golf Club boasts three championship standard golf course configurations. The original Deerpark - Par 71, Belvelly - Par 72 and Barryscourt - Par 73.
