Fluent Nhibernate configuring OptimistickLock.Dirty() with Transaction.IsolationLevel.ReadCommited when the row locked in Oracle 10g

The problem is :
I have a working system with FluentNhibernate.
I have a legacy database and it's hybrid system which suppose to give an answer to a new and old systems as one. So that means I couldn't use the Version - which means at this point to change the schema and add column to each table.

I've added OptimistickLock.Dirty() with Transaction.IsolationLevel.ReadCommited() to deal with the problem of locking .
The trouble is that when the row locked in Oracle 10g and I am trying to SaveOrUpdate the entity it just stops the application.

Then , when I save or rollback in Oracle the Application gets the process back and throws the exception NHibernate.StaleObjectStateException that is being handled in my exception handler which is fine.

The question is how to make the application to recognize on the spot that there is a lock on the current row I am trying to access and throw the adequate exception .

My problem was to enter the referenced DLL to my project while I was debugging to analyze the mistake that has been created in it.
The solution is : With the DLL you need to make sure
1. it was built in DEBUG mode
2. it has the pdb file with it
Without these 2 you cannot debug the code

When I placed the pdb file in my projects bin folder it worked like a magic .

There are several scenarios in which it is appropriate to create and manage your own threads instead of using thread pool threads:

You require a foreground thread.

You require a thread to have a particular priority.

You have tasks that cause the thread to block for long periods of time. The thread pool has a maximum number of threads, so a large number of blocked thread pool threads might prevent tasks from starting.

You need to place threads into a single-threaded apartment. All ThreadPool threads are in the multithreaded apartment.

Turns out there was a file in the project that didn't exist (little exclamation mark on the file in solution explorer).

Our solutions , the programmer that checked the .proj file in should :
1).Exclude from project the file he's working on , and didn't want to check in and then check in the project file.
2).Finish development until the compilation is fine , than check in the project file.
3).If the file is redundant and was left by some reason , just delete the file and rebuild the project .

Fluent NHibernate Sequence Strategy with Oracle

The environment :
Working with Oracle 10g.
At the mapping files of the FNH on the ID column define the sequence to work with.
This is a relevant sequence used by the relevant trigger used for the current table.
The db is a legacy db - using triggers to increment the records on the insert.
The problem :
When I save the record I'm getting back the record number. Well I'm getting the expected number +1 , every time . The record is being inserted and the record number jumps two times instead of one.
The solution:
In the trigger you must enter check to see if the new value is null , and only then increment the trigger . If it's not null it means it was incremented by FNH already and there is no need to activate the increment in the trigger.

Fluent NHibernate HasMany PropertyRef solution

For a long time tried to find the solution for HasMany relationship not through ID property of the entity .
Starting from Fluent NHibernate build 164 there is a way , no patches included -

Crazy thing , after including the FNH.dll of 164 version , we were compelled to add

To apply an svn patch (your_patch_file.patch) go to the root of your source directory, and place the patch there. (or you can specify the location of the patch with the patch name if it is not placed in the root of the source tree.)

Inheritance in jQuery

If you have a function in some plugin , that you would like to change to your own needs , you may use inheritance in a very simple way .
You are writting your own function , lets say : foo , and than using prototype method you add the new function instead of the original one.
For exmple in jquery.validate.js you have extend of the validator with function called showLabel.
You can create a new .js file , in which you'll enter your own function , for instance :
MyFile.js :


      function showLabelNewVersion(element, message) {...}

at the end just add this line to connect the new functionality to the old name of the function :


     $.validator.prototype.showLabel = showLabelNewVersion;

Now when your plugin will try to use it's showLabel it"ll get the content of the showLabelNewVersion.

Oracle Sequence Decrease

Very simple .
You can decrease the number of your current sequence .
Important to set the nextval, so that the new value will be caught in the sequence.
And most important to change back the increment by 1 , otherwise it will decrease each time you"ll activate the sequence by the negative number you've defined in the first row.

במקרה של DURATION=1200 האפליקציה נכנסת לדף בפעם הראשונה ובודקת את המצאות ה SESSION , מוצאת אותו תקין ומכניסה את הדף ל CACHING ל 20 דקות , לפי החשבון של 1200שניות \ 60 שניות = 20 דקות .

ניתן לראות את ה EXPIRATION של הדף ע"י כניסה ל TOOLS ל INTERNET OPTIONS בטאב GENERAL ב BROWSING HISTORY נכנסים ל SETTINGS ל VIEW FILES ושם נמצאים הקבצים השמורים .

הסבר : במשך 20 דקות הבאות , לפי הגדרת DURATION במקרה של הפעלת הדף ע"י REFRESH לא יתבצע חידוש הדף אלא הוא יובא מה TEMPORARY FILES של INTERNET .

במשך 20 דקות הוא לא יבצע PAGE_ONLOAD ולא יבדוק נוכחות של פרמטרים ב SESSION .

לאחר 20 דקות תתבצע העלאה מחודשת של הדף ויבדקו הנתונים .

Fluent Nhibernate

I was following some bloges about creating the mapping through the fluent nhibernate.
I've managed the connection to oracle , and have began building the entities , and than it hit me. I couldn't go on , because the entity was defined as Guid and my PK in the mapping was int64 - long type , we are working with existing db , and increamenting through sequences .
It took me a while , but the solution was very simple , I've just adjusted the entity father, so that it would be with a long type ID property. The mapping in the mapping classes connecing he ID with column that i choose , defining he sequence which should increament the recid number .
The only down side , that you"ll have to rewrite the Entity.Equals and the Entity.GetHashCode .

Joomla problem - in MySql - wrong collation - latin1_swedish_ci to utf8_general_ci for all the tables in one of the db instances

The problem is that the hoster creates the db in the wrong collation , therefore no hebrew is possible for me in my sites , which is not to good , considering my business is primarily in Israel .
I've been trying to solve it with a one single query, but with no luck.
There are a few solutions through php scripts, witch you are placing on the host and activating from there.
I worked at MySql side only.
So , a few steps for workaround ..
1). Get the list of the tables from your information_schema , that is being provided by the hoster. The query would look like -

SELECT table_name
FROM information_schema.tables
WHERE TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE'
AND TABLE_SCHEMA = 'Your_DB_Name_Goes_Here'
and TABLE_COLLATION <> 'utf8_general_ci'

Run it through the sql window of PhpMyAdmin.

You'll get the list of a specific database tables , which are not defined with 'utf8_general_ci' Collation.

2).At the bottom of the list activate the export . Export to CSV.

3).Very basic - enter xsl ,
write down (leaving blanks as blank columns)
first column second column blank column for table name forth column
ALTER TABLE here4u_jo151.___________ DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;

4).Pull it down for as much rows as the number of the tables you got, for your db_name before.

5).Just pour out to the blank column all the table_names.

6).Take all the queries to Sql of the PhpMyAdmin and run it.
(Be careful, put ',' at the end of each line ; pay attention that there are no blanks between the db name and the table name in the queries from excel.)

NHibernate unit testing with SQLite in-memory DB

While doing research for my next post, I ran across a recurring problem. Everyone wanted to use an in-memory SQLite database for their NHibernate unit tests.

Evidently, there’s no way to get back to the in-memory database in it’s current state after all of the connections to that database have been closed. When you open another connection, you get a fresh blank database.

Here’s the solutions I found while searching around.

Ayende just uses a single NHibernate session, which usually only uses a single SQLite DB connection. In fact, he just uses one session per test fixture. I’m not that smart and I don’t know enough about the internals of NHibernate to be confident that I’m really testing what I think I’m testing. Using a fresh session and database for each test would make me a lot more confident.

Krzysztof Kozmic has resorted to using a SQLite database stored on disk. While it may be faster than blowing away and recreating a SQL Express database dozens of times, it’s still slower than using an in-memory database. Variations of this idea include storing the database on a MS-DOS 5.0-style RAM disk drive to recover some of the speed lost by using file I/O. Genius! Except, I’m not going to reconfigure my PC for a unit test. Sorry, it’s just not portable enough. That’s why the idea was rated down on Stack Overflow.

Someone (gotta love the anonymous bloggers!) suggested building a custom NHibernate DriverConnectionProvider and overriding the GetConnection and CloseConnection functions so that once opened, the connection would never be closed. This seems a bit extreme to me, and doesn’t provide a mechanism to get a fresh database when we need one.

Using the DriverConnectionProvider idea of maintaining a single connection, but with a controlled scope, I came up with this:

It’s the same idea as the DriverConnectionProvider, but with a different scope. We create and open a connection and maintain it for the lifespan of the SQLiteDatabaseScope object. So far, I haven’t found an instance where NHibernate closes the connection.

Each instance of SQLiteDatabaseScope uses a different in-memory database, thanks to the New=True property in the connection string. You should be able to run your tests in parallel. You can’t do that with any of the other solutions.

The generic type parameter should be set to one of your fluent mapping classes. It’s used to tell Fluent NHibernate which assembly to scan for fluent mappings.

It’s extremely easy to use.

- Concerned the problem is not really that simple.

Download the SQLiteDatabaseScope code in Visual Basic or C#. GoDaddy doesn’t like you to download .vb or .cs files, so don’t forget to take off the .txt extension before you add it to your project.

Many a time we face cases where we have to delete one of double record.

So what can we do? Here an example of it,

Failure in starting the process for the user instance

Problem -
Trying to open MDF file getting -
"Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed. "

Answer -

In Server Explorer . Right click the MDF file .
Click modify connection.
On the Advanced Tab of the modify connection, scroll down and look for 'User Instance' property. Set to 'False'.

Same thing if you are creating a new instance of MDF .
After creation make the modification described above.

Uninstalling Oracle 10g Manually from Windows XP

Oracle's installation utility has a nasty habit of leaving a lot of items behind. I wrote this up to document what I've found you need to do to uninstall Oracle 10g manually. This is specific to 10g and Windows XP. Removing 9i is very similar if I remember right, but who's using 9i anymore? ;-)

The first thing you should do, is go ahead and run the installation tool to do an uninstall. It probably will leave some things behind, but it's worth running. Then go through this list and remove anything it missed. This list is detailed enough though, that I believe even if you did not run the uninstallation tool, this would fully uninstall Oracle.

The most commonly missed item is to make sure you remove everything from the GAC because the uninstaller doesn't appear to. I get to that later, but if you wanted to know the largest source of uninstallation problems, it's libraries remaining in the GAC.

After running the supplied Oracle uninstallation utility (which may or may not do some or all of the following):

Stop any Oracle services that have been left running.
Start->Settings->Control Panel->Services
Look for any services with names starting with 'Oracle' and stop them.

Run regedit and delete the following keys (some may have slightly different names in your registry):

Note that the services control panel will still show the old services until you reboot.

Delete the Oracle home directory
C:\Oracle

Delete the Oracle Program Files directory:
C:\Program Files\Oracle

Delete the Oracle Start Menu shortcuts directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle*
Where * indicates the name of your install. Look for and remove all Oracle directories from that location.

Remove Oracle refereces from the path. To edit your path go to:
Start->Settings->Control Panel->System->Advanced->Environment Variables
Edit both of the environment variables user PATH and system PATH. Remove any Oracle references in them.

Remove Oracle.DataAccess and any Polic.Oracle files from the GAC which is at:
C:\Windows\assembly\

There, now your system is Oracle free. If you are installing a new instance of Oracle (and not just an additional DB) I recommend you do this before any new Oracle installation.
Note: I used several other websites and searches as references when developing these steps, but I was unable to find any steps that covered all of the items for Oracle 10g so I assembled them here.
