I got a good jump off the start and was second going into the woods. On the first lap, I ran right behind my team mate Charlie Mullins. I knew that Charlie would set a good pace so we rode together early on. The track was rough but my bike was working really well. By the third lap, Charlie had stalled his bike in a turn and I passed him taking the lead. I made a few mistakes and Charlie regained the lead. I was still hanging in there with Charlie, but since I was still recovering from a sinus infection, the hotter it got the more I coughed. As the race went on I was having a very difficult time breathing, but I knew I had to perservere and push through it. Josh Strang caught and passed me then I crashed having to stop and tweek my front end a bit. I managed to hold onto 3rd place until the end of the race. I’m not happy with my performance this weekend but I will continue to train and push hard for the overall position.

I got a good jump off the start and going into the woods I about 5th. On the first lap I couldn’t get into the grove. Beginning the third lap, I had caught up with Thad Duvall and teammate Cory Buttrick, but got tangled up with a lapper and lost sight of them. I quickly got back up to speed only have my rear brake pedal get caught on a root and bend it clear out to the side of my foot peg. I did not want to chance ripping it off so I slowed down a bit until I got back to the pits to get it fixed. Then I started really settling into a good grove and realized that I was beginning to make up some time. After Thad’s unfortunate crash I was in forth chasing down Cory B, the lapped traffic was so thick I just could not get around. I pushed hard the last two laps to make up much needed time that I lost fixing my lever…to only come up shy of a podium finish.

I am looking forward to the race at Big Buck I really like that track. Round #2 was five days later in GA. I went into the race with a positive attitude and ready to prove my ability to complete in the XC1 pro class, only to come down with a horrible case of food poisoning the night before. I was up all night and into the morning Sunday sick. This left me completely dehydrated and exhausted, yet I still persevered and went to the line. I held on for the first four laps only to pull into the pits sick. I was able to do one last lap before being taken to the medics for IV Fluids to try and rehydrate me.

Florida and Georgia were a tough couple of rounds for me, but I’m very determined and I’m looking forward to the next round of the GNCC series in Morganton, NC.
