As India celebrates the diamond jubilee of its Republic, analysts and watchers are increasingly veering to the opinion that the GOI announcement on December 9 last year to create Telangana is part of an idea that can lead to - what can be termed - as a Second Republic. Of course there is no articulation of this idea from official quarters, but in the first stage of building the Second Republic there could be creation of many new states in the country.

In the second stage, there could be an overhaul of the distribution of powers between the Centre and the state. As a component of this rejig, there could also be creation of a third level of government -local self governments at the district level. These ideas set into motion, would, of course, take years to be finally implemented. On the way there will be many flip-flops- as can already be seen in the case of Telangana. Thus it will be long before a consensus is reached and the concerns of all stake holders satisfactorily answered.

But what is the raison d'etre for a Second Republic? At a philosophical level, the life of a Republic is like that of a human being. With the passage of time it is confronted with new problems and new challenges. To face up to these new realities, the Republic - much like an individual - has to constantly reinvent itself and bring about paradigm shifts in the values that governs its existence. At a concrete level, though overall the growth and development pattern of India in the last sixty years has been satisfactory and impressive in parts, it is being felt that there are substantial regional imbalances and disparities. A significant part of Indians live below the poverty level. Also corruption has permeated India's political life making governance an increasingly different proposition. In fact corruption has become a national security issue that threatens the integrity of the country.

All this -and other reasons - has led to a “have not” syndrome in many parts of the country that is finding expression, among other ways, by demands for more states. At the last count, there were demands for at least 10 more new states including Telangana, Gorkhaland, Vidarbha, Bundelkhand, Mithalanchal, Harit Pradesh and Kutch-Saurashtra. The increasing dispossession of tribals in their heartland in central India is also leading to increased strength of Maoists in these areas and in large swathes of the country the writ of the government does not run. It is felt that smaller states will bring governance closer to the people.

If not the people, then for the Congress party it makes good political sense to root for a Second Republic, which entails more states in the country, redistribution of powers between the Centre and the state and devolution of powers to the local level. This is because at the end of 58 years of Parliamentary democracy, the Congress party finds itself as the only national party in the country (in the real sense and not as per the definition of the Election Commission). That's how it started in 1951, when the first elections were held as per the then new Constitution.

From the late 1960 onwards there was a rise of opposition parties but with the conclusion of the 2009 election that saw the cutting down to size of the BJP (the party that came closest to the Congress in terms of influence), the grand old party is back to its position of being the sole national party in India. Along with the Congress, a galaxy of small regional parties like the BSP, DMK, AIDMK, Trinamool Congress and TDP shine on the political firmament. But the influence of these parties are confined to one single state and even the CPM -with pretensions of being a national party -is restricted to two states. At the national level, there can be a serious challenge to the Congress only if the regional parties can combine together and weld themselves into a homogeneous group. But going by past experience, the prospects for this are remote.

In this situation with changes in the structure of the Republic, the Congress can lord over the Centre, almost permanently. The creation of a third tier of government at the district level - would mean devolution of power away from state governments. This will disempower regional parties and regional satraps and lead to creation of many sub-regional parties at district levels. This will strengthen the national government at the cost of the state governments also. In the long run, it could lead to a US type of government, with chief executive of the country (whatever name you may call it by - President or Prime Minister) being directly elected.
But when that happens there will be a Third Republic!

Will the New Year fulfil the cherished hope of the people of Telangana for a state of their own? Or will 2010 go down in history of the Telangana people as yet another tombstone marking the snuffed out aspirations of Telangana for an existence based on dignity, keeping intact its unique identity?

The demand for a Telangana state is the oldest in the country that was backed by no less than the States Reorganisation Commission (SRC).
With great foresight the SRC had expressed the fear that in the event of the merger of the two regions of Telangana and the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema districts of Madras Presidency, the more aggressive, educated, wealthier Andhra people would overwhelm the people of Telangana and exploit them. Fifty three years of integration of the two regions has seen the emergence of Telangana as a colony of the resourceful Andhra people. Every promise given to Telangana people to safeguard their interests, whether it was in terms of allocation of resources or water or jobs in government and public sector, has been violated with impunity.

Although Telangana accounts for 40 per cent of the land area and people, its share of the revenues and other resources like water, power, development of education, infrastructure and so on is far less. Importantly, far from forging unity based on language, there is a tremendous disconnect between them as the coastal Andhra people look down upon the people of Telangana as inferior, mock the language they speak, deride their customs and traditions, scoff at their history and heap scorn at their political struggles. Then they claim to be the reason for all the development and growth in the region, especially Hyderabad, which is now on the national and global maps as a metropolis of the future.

The grievances of Telangana and the anger of its people at their systematic deprivation and exploitation are so real that every political party, with the exception of CPI(M), supported the creation of Telangana state. Whether it was the Congress in 2004 or the Telugu Desam Party in 2009, they believed they could retain their presence in Telangana only by forging an alliance with Telangana Rashtra Samiti which was a clear acknowledgement of the rationale for a separate existence. Yet when it came to the crux, after supporting creation of Telangana state an all party meeting held by the Congress government, they had no qualms in opposing the Dec 7 announcement of Union Home Minister P Chidamabaram to initiate the process of bifurcation.

Parties like TDP, Praja Rajyam Party of Chiranjeevi and a powerful section of Congress went back on their commitment to Telangana and led an agitation for a unified state. “That is the typical Andhra mentality... unprincipled and two-timing,” said an activist on condition of anonymity. “They treat Telangana people and their votes as expendable... no wonder that the people got so angry,” he said. The opposition parties who supported Telangana got as many as 57 seats to the Assembly in the May 2009 elections out of 119 in the region.

Telangana revived the sagging political fortunes of TDP while propping up PRP, CPI and BJP.

First movement

Is the current struggle different from the earlier ones for Telangana state? Will it succeed? Or will it be a repeat of the 1971 betrayal when the two- year movement led by Telangana Praja Samiti that was headed by M Channa Reddy came to a nought with TPS merging with Congress under a compromise formula that saw Reddy become the CM? Telangana veteran fighter like Prof Keshav Rao Jadhav believes that a movement will succeed only when it is led by the people at the grassroots and not politicians. “The people have taken over the movement. They are leading it without waiting for politicians. In fact, it has reached the rural people,” he said.

“It is up to the Telangana people, up to us and not politicians to get statehood. I am sure Telangana state will become a reality,” he said. However, Professor S Simhadri of Osmania University believes the combine or convergence of caste, class and political interests of the powerful coastal Andhra lobbies will make all efforts to obstruct Telangana. Individuals and groups with interests in real estate, infrastructure, power plants, irrigation projects have seamlessly merged into politics with the result that they are loath to give up a burgeoning city of Hyderabad or the massive strength of 42 MPs from AP in the Lok Sabha with the resultant profits, contracts and massive commissions.

The hold of the capitalist class over political power has expanded dramatically in recent years and breaking up of AP will equally dramatically cut into their profits and political power. Fifty three years of integration and consequent exploitation by this class, led by the Kamma caste has sharpened the disparities. Now these same forces are saying development will suffer if the state is bifurcated. “Kamma capital has grabbed and monopolises the economic space and politically, Kammas have dramatically expanded their power. These complexities are either not understood or are swept under the carpet by national leadership,” he said.

He believes all out efforts are being made to nullify the students struggle and negate people’s assertions by this combine of upper caste, politically and economically powerful interests. Gita Ramaswamy, activist-writer-publisher-researcher, believes the present movement led by students belonging to the oppressed and backward castes has achieved almost a miracle when a leader of a political party like K Chandrasekhar Rao of Telangana Praja Samiti had to bend to their power by resuming his hunger strike that he wanted to give up in the first week of December. Also, the present movement is perhaps the first in recent history of Andhra Pradesh not to have been influenced by the Maoists. “The more aware people become, the more democratic they are, the less they will take up arms,” said Gita. So will Telangana become a reality? “The movement has reached a critical mass... it has become a decisive force. Telangana is bound to happen because it is not what they give but what we take,” she said.

The Film Industry that has flourished in Hyderabad city because of innumerable concessions given to it in terms of allocation of land, water, electricity etc., depriving the common man of Telangana of these facilities, is solely controlled by the Andhra migrants. The film industry monopolized by the Andhras does not allow Telangana talent to flourish and the industry also indulges in a sustained game of making fun of linguistics and cultural variations of this region.if telangana is the land of telugu`s fine, but why do the villains and jokers speak in telangana slang and not the HEROS in all the films. descrimination of telangana people is very common in private jobs. sneering at them and talking about their incmpetencies is a reflection of colonial practices. the fact remains that telangana was colonized from 1956 on wards and the same should be rectified!! Please read history of telangana and andhra before any body talks about unity. the formation of andhra state, independence to telangana ( Hyderabad state), formation of andhra pradesh state are three different issues one should understand.

A good idea to work with Tamil and Kannada film industries to have their movie remakes with Telangana slang as they are Tollywood competitors. I`ve small request.. please don`t show their coastal andhra slang as joker`s or villain`s slang unlike they did to Telangana people.

79) Singur project was originally designed to meet primarily the irrigation needs of Medak and Nizamabad districts. But it is now solely used for meeting the requirements of capital city.

80) Jurala Project which is the first project on river Krishna meant for Telangana,
is the smallest of all the projects built on this river. The Bachawat Tribunal allocated just 17.5 TMC ft. water for this project, and the state government reduced its storage capacity to 60% ft. But the actual utilization so far has not been more than 10%

81) Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme, was to irrigate 87500 acres in Mahabubnagar. The Bachawat Tribunal also allocated 15.90 TMC ft. of water for this project. This water has to pass through a canal in Raichur district of Karnataka State. After the formation of Andhra Pradesh landlords of Rayalaseema blasted the gates with bombs and diverted water to their land. Since then Govt never even tried to reconstruct the gates.

82) Devadula Project, provides water for 5 lakh acres, was promised to be finished in 5 yrs in 2001, yet to begin work. The funniest fact is, Sriram sagar is yet to be completed for last 40 yrs which provides water for just 4 lakh acres. Telangana people are supposed to believe the promise.

83) Two major projects proposed on river Godavari are Ichampally and Polavaram. Ichampally is meant for Telangana and Polavaram for Andhra.The irrigation potential of Polavaram Project would be 6 to 7 times more than the irrigation potential of Ichampally. Ichampally is going to be primarily a power project not a irrigation project !

84) Andhra lands are irrigated by canal irrigation i.e. with tax payer’s money. Andhra farmer pays Rs 200 - 300 per annum as water charges. Telangana lands are irrigated by bore wells, entire cost is on the farmer . Digging, power, bore well, motor, pipes. He struggles with fluctuations in power supplies with irregularities and pathetic power distribution pattern in Telangana.

85) Technological University was actually started in Warangal but was shifted to Hyderabad, Open University was originally Nalgonda district but was later shifted Hyd. The same state level universities University of Health Sciences, Mahila University and the University of Dravidian Languages were allowed to stay in Seemandhra - not moved to Capital city.

86) Twelve milk chilling plants established by the erstwhile Telangana Regional Committee in different parts of Telangana have been abruptly closed down showing lack of funds as a reason.

Autocratic Sonia And Insensitive Chidambaram

The present ruling Congress party under Sonia’s leadership has proved time and again that it lacks democratic decision making capability and basic common sense to solve sensitive issues be it within India or outside India. Recent flare up of events in Andhra – Telungana is one more feather in its “clown” cap. Many political observers accused Congress has a tacit hand behind the recent Sri Lankan government’s genocidal war on Tamils. In the final phase of the war alone, hundreds and thousands of innocent civilians have been killed and many more maimed due to unrestrained use of banned weapons on the densely populated civilian areas.

Autocratic Sonia?

Though actual tension mounted in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh when TRS Chief K Chandrasekhara Rao took to fasting and further flash point reached when his health worsened, Sonia announced that she would make an initiative to split the Telangana from the Andhra pradesh as part of her election promise. Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s statement pledging to begin the process of formation of a separate Telangana state led to wild scenes of celebration in the Telangana region, and its main proponent Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K.Chandrasekhara Rao, called off his 11-day fast.

The central congress government nod for Telangana triggered varied reactions, from jubilation to disbelief to angry resignations, and led to a domino effect with another regional faction demanding carving Andhra Pradesh into three parts. Cutting across party lines, the leaders, including legislators from the ruling Congress, opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Praja Rajyam, made it clear that Andhra Pradesh could be divided only if their region was also made a separate state.

This would mean that the present state has to be divided into three states - Telangana, Greater Rayalaseema and Andhra. “Andhra Pradesh should not be divided but if you are dividing it, form Greater Rayalaseema alongside Telangana and make coastal Andhra a separate state,” said T.G. Venkatesh, Congress legislator and convener of the Forum for the Rights of Rayalaseema. The people of Rayalaseema, comprising four districts, complain of backwardness and neglect by successive state governments. The people of the region are not ready to merge with Andhra in the event of formation of Telangana state.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana promise plunged the state into political chaos after 93 legislators and many MPs, cutting across party lines, resigned to protest the central congress government’s decision. Assembly Speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy told reporters that 93 legislators from Rayalaseema and Andhra regions and belonging to three parties have submitted their resignations to him. As many as 53 legislators of the ruling Congress, 29 of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and 11 of the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) have submitted their resignation, he said.

Insensitive Chidambaram!

The Home minister P Chidambaram conceded that, the demand for a separate Telangana state in Andhra Pradesh showed how people felt neglected despite speaking the same language. But when he is wise enough to understand the sufferings of the Telungana people why didn’t he understand the problems faced by the people of Tamil Eelam?.

In Sri Lanka, Tamils and Sinhalese are speaking two different languages and follow different religious and cultural practices. They are more uncommon than common. When he accepts that Telungana people are neglected from the rest of the Andhra pradesh why doesn’t he recognize that Tamil people are neglected in Eelam?. However Eelam Tamil people are not just neglected, but they are suppressed and systematically ethnic cleansed by the Sinhala majority.

Even after seven months of the end of the war, scores of Tamil civilians are still in internment camps. Extra judicial killings, missing persons, sexual abuse on women are daily occurrences in the so-called liberated areas of Eelam by the Sri Lankan security forces. Several western nations and the UN have called for the inquiry of possible war crimes carried out by Sri Lankan armed forces.

The Congress government has a poor track record of understanding peoples’ problems. Instead of solving the pressing issues through democratic process, it always takes on an autocratic approach. For instance, on what grounds did Sonia announced that Andhra could be split it in to two pieces? Who had given Sonia authority to announce Andhra will be split? It seems like she announced this verdict as part of her birthday gift to the people of Andhra. By announcing the split she has brought immense suffering and loss of lives and property damages to the tune of 200 crores to Andhra Pradesh.

India is a democratic country. Any sensitive and pressing problem should be solved only through the referendum. The best solution should come from the people. They are the owner and stakeholder of democracy and not autocratic Sonia or Chidambaram.

Alarmed over the spate of resignations and protests, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah said the resolution on forming a Telangana state would be tabled in the assembly only after consultations. Appearing to play down the enormity of the move, Rosaiah advised MPs and legislators not to get agitated over the issue and resign as the process of moving a resolution had not even started. These statements are more of a reactive nature to safe guard the Congress government instead of being a people friendly, thoughtful and civilized approach. The Congress party should inherit true democratic policies from the developed nations. In the western countries, leaders never give their nod to such type of sensitive issues openly. They will always consult ruling and opposition parties and the various stake holders of the problem. In most of the sensitive cases final decision will be given to the people in the form of referendum to choose their decision.

More than 30 lives have been lost and 200 crores worth of property have been destroyed due to the immature behavior of Home minister Chidambaram and Sonia Gandhi’s open announcement about the splitting of Andhra Pradesh. These two should bear the responsibility of these human losses and property loss.

The people must decide whether they need Separation or Integration. Rulers are only facilitators and their role is to full-fill the needs of the people. They don’t have the authority to give any final verdict. People who are living in the Telangana and Eelam Tamils are the one to decide about their future and method of governing system. Allowing the separation of Andhra and Telangana and imposing non-Separation of Sri Lanka and Tamil Eelam are another senseless political duplicity of the Indian ruling Congress under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday said that the settlement of the gas dispute between the Ambani brothers could not be left to their mother Kokilaben and the Centre must play a decisive role, for which he has written to the Prime Minister.
“The dispute over sharing of gas is not an issue to be settled by (the) mother (Kokilaben). It is for the government to decide who should get the gas and also at what price,” Reddy said on the sidelines of a function here.

According to the sources I heard from, YSR was murdered. and it is a good news a factionist had to have such a death. It was not an accident. He was killed by Ambani. If we look into the details, we knew that Reliance has got oil reserves in K-G basin and to extract this oil, reliance wanted to supply it to bangalore.YSR asked him to pay 10,000 crore as corruption for which, ambani dint accept instead he said he will pay 100 crore. YSR dint accept coz he was very greedy since he Knew he can rule AP state for more 5 years as he was goin to win election. Well Ambani complained to Sonia regarding YSR's rogue attitude . Q&A Telangana Demand

When Jawaharlal Nehru [ Images ] announced the formation of a united Andhra Pradesh, he commented, "an innocent girl called Telangana [ Images ] is being married to a naughty boy called Andhra. It is their choice to continue or to get separated."

Today the people of Telangana say that the innocent girl can no longer stay married to the naughty boy. Several proponents of the movement say that it is high time their 'state' is given back to them.

Dr Srinivas Raj, one of the leaders of the Telangana movement, has prepared a ready reckoner on the issue. Raj along with several others has been distributing this booklet among the people of Telangana and convincing the people why this movement is important and how their lives would change once Telangana is created.

In this interview with rediff.com's Vicky Nanjappa, Raj gives an interesting insight about the movement for a seperate Telangana. He also goes into length about the backroom politics that is being played in trying to curb this movement.

Could you give us a brief history of the Telangana movement?

We talk of Jalianwala Bagh with such great interest. No one wants to even think of the massacre that took place in Telangana, when the Nizam was ruling us. The Hyderabad state was under the Nizam and Urdu was the official language at that time. Right from that time, the people of Telangana were being suppressed. The Nizam's army butchered the people of Telangana who fought for their rights and there were at least 6 Jalianwala Bagh-like incidents at that point of time. The problem is that we continue to get suppressed even today and that is why we feel that a separate state is required.

You had a separate state, then what happened?

Between 1948 and 1956 Telangana was a separate state. Hyderabad had several industries including two airports. A lot of attention was foccused on the Telangana region and this area had a lot of infrastructure. Time magazine had in 1937 featured V Usman Ali Khan as the wealthiest man in the world. This only speaks of the wealth that there was in this region.

Once Andhra and Rayalseema came out of the Madras presidency, the people of those regions thought that it would be best to merge Telangana with their regions. Our assembly building, the high court building were all from the Nizam's period. In 1909, M Visveswaraya, the father of engineering, constructed an underground drainage system inHyderabad, which is being used even today. 69 per cent of the Krishna rivers's catchment area is in Telangana. The revenue that was being generated in the Telangana region was much more when compared to Andhra and Rayalseema.

The fact that Dr B R Ambedkar had said that Hyderabad should be made the second capital of India [ Images ]speaks volumes about the region. Moreover Hyderabad is a connecting point between north and south India. They wanted ready-made infrastructure which was in abundance in Telangana and hence they managed to pressurise the government of India to consider their decision.

Which promises were broken when the Union government merged Telangana with Andhra?

The very first promise that was broken was regarding the name of the state. The Union government had promised us that the state would be known as the Andhra Telangana state. However overnight, the leaders from the Andhra and Rayalseema regions managed to convince the government to change the name to Andhra Pradesh. After that the leaders of the two other regions worked consistently to make Telangana a backward region. Another instance of a broken promise is the fact that the Shriram Sagar water project in Nizamabad has been in cold storage for the past 40 years.

What is the main justification for seeking a separate state? Do you really think that things would improve?

It is absolutely important that we be given a separate state. Our accent and our culture is different. Our style is veryDeccan and we use a lot of Urdu when we speak. We have a mixture of northern and southern style. We even celebrate Holi. We have every reason to demand for a state. To be honest, if Telangana is carved out it would be bigger than 100 countries in the world and larger than 18 states in the country. Once Telangana is carved out it will be 1,14,800 square kilometers.

What we fail to understand is that how did the government manage to bypass all of you and merge Telangana?

We concentrated more on development and not politics. The simple fact is that we did not have access to the central leadership in the same way as the leaders of Andhra and Rayalseema had.

How do the people of Telangana region look at the people of the rest of Andhra Pradesh?

The question should be the other way around. Since day one, we have been treated like second-rate citizens. Depriving us of development is one issue, but the fact that everyone makes fun of us is also an important point in Telangana. Take the film industry for instance. There are no cinema heroes from our region. Moreover what hurts the most is that the language spoken by the people of Telangana is always attributed to a joker or a villain in the movies.

There has been terrible violence due to this issue. Would you want to justify that?

The violence is not half of what the media has been projecting it to be. In the Telangana region, the Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation faced a loss of Rs 7 crore due to the protests. This was mainly because the bus services were shut down and also due to incidents of stone pelting. Whereas in Andhra and Rayalseema the losses were to the tune of Rs 70 crore and this was largely because buses were being burnt.

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited too had said that at the Shrikrishna Devaraya University at Rayalseema, students had burnt its optic fibres which resulted in a loss of Rs 2 crore.

There was also an incident in which supporters of J C Divakar Reddy in Rayalseema had bombed a railway station, causing a loss of Rs 10 crore. Now it is clear that the people of Telangana have not been protesting in these regions. We have only protested in a democratic manner. All these statistics have never been reported by the media since 95 per cent of the media is being controlled by barons from the Andhra and Rayalseema regions. The media too has been asked to project only incidents taking place in the Rayalseema region. Please understand this is our demand for the past 50 years, it is not something that has happened overnight.

What is your view on the flip flop by political parties in Andhra Pradesh?

Both the Telegu Desam Party and the Praja Rajyam Party had said that they would support the bill if it is introduced. Till the 2009 elections, the TDP was against Telangana, but at the time of the polls they joined hands with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti since it felt that the demand was very strong. Today due to pressure from the other regions, they are backtracking.

Many legislators raised a point saying that the Union government had acted in haste by announcing the formation of a separate state at midnight. I would like to ask them whether they had a problem when India got independence at midnight.

This issue has scared off investors. Aren't you worried that the economy of the region will suffer?

The people of Andhra and Rayalseema have purchased land from the poor people of Telangana at throw away prices. Over the years they have inflated the prices. These persons are worried. There is also the middle class which has invested in land in the Telangana region. I would say for a fact that the prices would drop by half once Telangana is formed. However this is temporary. Once the state is formed and the Telangana government invites investors, the real estate would be back to normal.

Finally, there is a murmur that Y S Jaganmohan Reddy [ Images ] (son of late chief minister Y S Rajeshakara Reddy) could be behind all this in a bid to overthrow K Rosaiah. What is your take on this?

(Laughs), He is very much behind the scenes or at least was behind it. He did try and overthrow Rosaiah by escalating the tension. However things went out of control when the movement went into the hands of the Telangana people. He is now in soup since there is pressure from the people of his belt. He is now trying to paint a different picture to come out of the soup.

The state government has already alerted the CBI and all airports, national and state highways, seaports and border check posts are under full alert to prevent the pajama from being stitched out of the state. AP government has also approached Pokimon Pajama Inc., the makers of the pajama to find out the unique 5 digit pokimon code which is embedded into each pajama to make the task of detection easier.

Meanwhile this blogger has learnt that some elements were trying to modify the pajama to make it unrecognizable and move it out of AP. The state CID headquarters wore a gloomy look on Friday evening, thanks to the frustration of the agency due to its inability to locate the pajamas.

By now, I guess the word of mouth is already out. It shouldn't be news to anyone that 3 Idiots surely deserves three cheers, and more.

But the first thing you realise about this film is not that a 44-year-old Aamir Khan can play a 22-year-old college kid, and he can get away with it. Well, he does.

Well we do quite often, but helpless we sit amidst so called educated people. Never can a society succeed in its goal to attain the real democracy until each and every one in the system is educated and empowered. This should have been the dream of every True leader in India be it Mahatma Gandhi or Nehru. Have you ever thought why Indira was so frustrated with the population and force implemented the Sterilization on people , this is coz she could not convince illiterate citizens the grave problem India is facing. had she made education compulsory and free! we wuod have succeeded at least to enlighten the present generation.

For that matter just looking the other angle of the Raise of Telangana Movement again and again shows how true the demand is and Failure of every leader to show equal respect to the people of telangana. Never have any leader tried to look to solve the issue on Long term basis. neither did they tried to promote our culture instead tried to destroy it and abuse it again and again. Well Those who Pass from Brilliant High School......It is natural Marks are bought .....Can you ever Imagine Marks as high as 590/600 with Telugu hindi and english and ofcourse social being part of the syllabus. Papers are leaked to the brighter students or the same questions are practiced again and again . Just look at the EAMCET exam ...well It is known that the questions from Sri-chaitanya or Narayana will almost always appear in the EAMCET Exam. This is the way Education is MONOPOLISED.

Why should the 10th marks be considered for admission into corporate colleges? simple Introduce MONOPOLY kill the smaller schools. Parents will admit kids in schools that show success.

Just for Example When I was preparing for my 2nd year medicine I heard rumors forensic papers have leaked in Narayana Med college. Simple buy the paper show the results and become the best college. Now the Medical speciality Entrance has been leaking secretly. Is there another Coaching center in the making or just imagine how many falto doctors are doin speciality buying papers. Channels and Influence and ofcourse Money is the Rule of the Time. Just find out the Corporate Education do you find any one from Telangana? We have the state on boil again. What is the way out? The government's flip-flops along with the flip-flops of the political parties are literally causing the state to burn. In my humble opinion, (which I realize does not count for too much!) this is a way out:

1. Start the process of forming a separate Telangana state immediately. It is not true that a resolution is required to be passed in the state assembly. Please correct me if I am wrong. The centre can do this independently. The cause is genuine. There is no doubt in my mind about this. Please read this (albeit patiently!) to understand the history behind this demand. The people of the region have a genuine grievance and it must be addressed. Hyderabad must be the capital of the Telangana state while Vijaywada or Visakhapatnam can be made the capital of Andhra Pradesh.

2. Put the state under president's rule for a while. This is important because the government under Rosaiah has failed miserably in performing its most important duty - that of maintaining law and order. It is also an open secret that K V P Ramchandra Rao is the one who wields the baton in the home ministry. There are a number of vested interests in the government who are acting against the interests of the people. To bring back the state to normalcy, it is important that there is a neutral government.

3. Bring in the army to ensure peace. The moment you announce that you forming the state, the Andhra region will erupt (stage managed, if you will). This must be quelled forcefully and decisively. No nonsense must be brooked. The government of India must send a stern message to all that the nation cannot be held to ransom by a bunch of hoodlums. What is the problem for the people of the Andhra region to concede a Telangana? What do they have to lose?

4. TRS must cease to exist. I don't say this. They themselves have promised (apparently) that they will merge with the Congress once the state is formed. It will be dangerous to have KCR and his ilk running the state of Telangana. They will loot and plunder its resources like never before and this will sour the dream of the people of the region.

5. Form the 2nd SRC. The moment you announce a Telangana, umpteen other demands will be raised. All those must be examined. The center must constitute the committee to look at these demands in a time-bound manner and the center must refrain from knee-jerk reactions like in the Telangana issue.Telangana and Vidharba had to be independent state according to 1st SRC respecting that Telangana bill should be moved in Parliament. Having said that, to look at other demands constitute a 2nd SRC.

I understand that things are not as simple as this. But I feel this might offer a way out of the mess that we have got ourselves into. Mulling on this issue for many days, I have realized that there cannot be a united state for too long. The situation is worsening every day and some decisive action must be taken soon. Some of this might not be palatable to some. This cannot be helped. In a country like ours, you cannot please everyone all the time.

I write this as a neutral person - neither from Andhra nor from Telangana. I write this as a silent spectator who yearns for normalcy in the city he has lived in all his life.

Should the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh be broken to pave way for separate Telangana, Costal Andhra and Rayalaseema? This is a much discussed topic in media since a month or so. Currently, most of the so called ‘Elected Leaders’ throughout the state are busy submitting their resignations to respective constitutional institution starting from grass root levels of Village Panchayats to National Parliament. These leaders are now united by ‘region’ irrespective of the political party they belong to. Because of this ‘Go’ and ‘No Go’ separatism movements, Hyderabad city has come to stand still. Not just the capital city, but commuting in remote towns too has become a nightmare. I usually stay away from writing politics related stuff. Since the issue has become so complex and sensitive, let me put forward my thoughts on this whole saga of ’separatism’.

‘Regional Backwardness’ is the main reason for demanding the state of Telangana as per the predominant leaders behind this separation movement.( How did you decide Regional backwardness as the only reason? Have you Travelled Telangana Villages? have you talked to the people of telangana How can you say that you are an independent person who is away from politics? why people Read newspapers owned by a region and decide that it is the real truth? The Fact is that is that Regional Backwardness is only a miniscule of the long list of reasons. Our culture , our slang , our resourses , our land, our employements in govt sector have been diverted openly under complex gang of network of caste cloud which is very predominant or prominant in the Andhra ex: film industry owned almost entirely by kamma and naidu caste fromAndhra is a minor example .....Basically this is long openly running caste division that is crippling the society but not spilled openly . Systematically the Water resourses have been diverted to Andhra this is by misinformation campaign that is even documented in Govt offices.. Govt Papers and documents are nothing but Miss information Campaign ex Potti sriramulu is not related to Telangana at all.)Let me put across the same thing in a different way. All these political leaders have been part of the governance system, represented their constituency in Assembly/Parliament all these years. Were they all sleeping till now? or is the ‘Busyness’ of looting the public money to make fortune for the upcoming generations of their family? What can’t these leaders bring up the issues related to their constituency, discuss those in right forum and find a favorable and progressive solution to make a better living for citizens? Oh yeah, solving issues will not help them to be in the limelight of media. Also, it could be due to that rational of solving all the issues right away might leave no room for problems when the elections arise next time! I know what the next question would be. Not everyone is a part of the ruling coalition to get the work done! Yes, being an elected representative is more than enough to raise an issue and bring it to the notice of right people in bureaucracy and fight on it until it is solved. I agree with you failure of telangana leaders is one of the reasons But did you ever thought why did they failed? Every man is selfish this is basic nature If he want to become prosperous he has to stay with the Group rite ....Andhra Leaders who form 200 MLAs and Telangana 100 ...the discrepancy is here...If they have to have a good post they have to be humble to the leaders The Best Example is How YSR suppressed Telangana Movement or thought among Congress Telangana Leaders By keeping the Andhra-Seema Flock under his control....How he managed Sonia to listen to whatever he said.

Now answer this question of mine – who is responsible for backwardness of a particular region? It is shame on each of these agitating leaders for doing nothing all this while towards the core issues. In my view, it is even more dumb move by assuming that all the issues will be solved by having a separate state. Just to show off the political presence, one dumb moron goes on pseudo-fasting and things get into a turmoil from there on. Why was such a stance not taken for decades now to solve the people’s problems? Can these leaders come to public with data on how many issues they have raised in assembly or parliament over all these years? Being there during the sessions itself is not possible for many of these lazy bums and raising questions on top is too much of an ask. All of a sudden why provocative talks to ignite the hate among fellow linguistics? It is all nothing but a political stunt to realize/enjoy the power hunger. I request all those followers and the students from various universities across the state for becoming not scapegoats in this political game. ( It has become a practice for YSR to appoint puppet ministers so he can manage anything he wants in the state Ex Sabitha Indira Reddy as Home minister and Danam Nagendar as Health ...Well Sabitha Indira openly said she has no control of police when the Police Lati charged the students in OU campus while they were doin peaceful protests.)

Let me quote a short story that we all read in our primary school days. There was an old man who was keen on teaching his grand kids something new everyday. So, one day he bought a mop having 10 sticks tied with a strong thread. He called each of the kid to break the sticks in the mop as a whole without removing or loosening the thread. Though the kids tried their best, they didn’t succeed in breaking the sticks. Since everyone failed, the old man arranged those 10 sticks in 2 mops of 5 sticks each, again tied with a thread. Now some of the strong kids were able to get to breaking point of the relatively smaller mop compared to the previous one, still couldn’t succeed completely. After repeated failure attempts to break the mop, the old man now asked kids to remove the tread and take out one stick at a time and break all of them. All the sticks were broken with ease by kids. After this event, the man described the power of unity and the weakness of being separated. ( Funny Just Tell me Why did you guys saperate from Madras? lol only coz fear of being abused by Tamilians? I fail to understand why people (including students) have forgotten that moral from the story and simply following the selfish leaders. ( This Movement has always been a People's Movement You dont know coz you never studied History...if so you just know the news in Sakshi tv or E tv or enadu...even if u wana know U will not get them from the Govt coz of systematic manipulation of the Telangana History by Govt as I have already explained above. It just shows that they are clueless and they haven’t understood the power of electoral system. If they can’t find solutions through a dialogue, they can never be your leaders. I am not bothered about the outcome of this whole saga.. but my heart goes out to all those who aren’t thinking in detail and simply following the leaders ( Just Request jagan to stop funding the false Samikya Andhra movement or Anti-Telangana Movement)and causing panic for fellow citizens to make a peaceful living. At least I have gone clueless to understand why it is so difficult to come together, discuss the pros/cons and arrive at a peaceful solution amicable to all. Whether they break the state or keep it united, one thing is true – You find only such useless leaders as long as the voter god doesn’t realize the ground zero realities and make a conscious effort to elect a ‘Leader’ and not the selfish ‘Coward’. Betrayal Of Telangana

People of Telangana region have been betrayed before (Marri Chenna Reddy) and do view TRS with suspicion. Performance of TRS is not in anyway the indicator of the Telangana sentiment. If you remember the drama KCR did in the last five years, resigning and getting elected twice, indecisiveness before the election whether to align with Cong(back channel negotiations), TDP or PRP, people were clearly vexed with him and could see through his anxiety about winning more seats than really care about the sentiment. Do not equate his performance to the sentiment.

Betrayal by by-gone Telangana politicians was unpardonable. It was straight forward opportunistic. Spinelessness of the current politicians(until now I think) in faithfully obeying there masters (Andhra & Rayalseema) is one other reason for people's sentiment not getting properly represented.

This movement now is being driven forward by the intellectuals, students and farmers. Anguish is about people not getting it's proper share of rights in water and jobs. Not about the politicians getting power. It is a shame how administration tries to suppress the rightful demands, which is the implementation of the gentleman's agreement and subsequent government GO's. Ever tried to know why these don't get implemented? It is a justful demand.

Unity is about people sticking together in thick and thin. Not two places sticking together. One region says it's innovative, potray's other region as lazy. I again ask the prejudices different regions have, is this unity? Caste politics and favors, is this unity?

False Andhra Movement

The reasons for United Andhra atleast in the political and media circles is not genuine. It's more driven by the business and property investments made in Hyderabad. These politicians fear they will have to shift base if the state gets seperated and probably handling investments will become difficult. Do you think they care about the people and the unity.

Your call for statemenship to be shown by Chandrababu and Jagan is cunning and laughable. Lets get united now, and once we make our investments and ourselves safe we can fight later concept. Is this statesmanship? Statesmanship is going beyond the narrow political trappings, keeping your word at all times (not change it often) and living by it. That has been our culture. Where does Chandrababu stand now. Jagan supporters, as you said in other forum, are playing to the script. Is this statesmanship my friend? Time and again people of Telangana have been cheated by promises of seperate statehood and when that dream is near and a reality, you see the personalities come out to safeguard investments in the name of united andhra.

Instead of addressing genuine concerns and making constructive suggestions to the problem, your call to film buffoons to take part in gimmickry campaigns in Telangana is again laughable and exposes where your loyalties lie. Govt of Andhra Manipulating Telangana History

Indian minds could produce treatises like Vedas, Upanishads. However, they had not paid adequate attention to mundane happenings of the world. He muse of Indian History was not been presided over by Herodotus or Tacitus that’s why paucity of information is the bugbear of the Indian History. However, opposite is the true of Telangana History. We have been reading the history of Telangana written by motivated linguistic chauvinist.

More often than not all these writings are aimed at depicting Telangana region in poor light and to establish Andhra supremacy. The megalomania of Andhra’s is ubiquitous in every sphere of life. Recently Andhra Pradesh Legislative Secretariat brought out a booklet titled “Andhra Pradesh Legislature a Retrospect” for edification of Members of Legislative Assembly.

This is the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s version of the history. Naturally after a few years even scholars, educationists, thinkers and historians would regard this version as authentic. This is the case study of the booklet :

The A.P. Assembly Secretariat is willfully disseminating distorted information by rewriting history.

Firstly in page no. 12 para 3 it mentions “Meanwhile the State Reorganisation Commission under the chairmanship of Justice Fazal Ali submitted a report in 1955 and the Union Government has accepted the recommendation of State Reorganisation Commission Report.”

It is travesty of truth and preposterous to say this, the SRC had recommended for merger of Telangana with Andhra State. The SRC Page no. 107 para no. 386 succinctly and unequivocally avers :

“After all these factors taken into consideration, that it will be in the interests of Andhra as well as Telangana if, for the present, the Telangana area is constituted into a separate state, which may be known as the Hyderabad state, with provision for its unification with Andhra after general elections likely to be held in or about 1961 if by two-third majority the legislature of the residuary Hyderabad state expresses itself in favour of such unification.”

Secondly another glaring falsification of history of Telangana is in page no. 12 para 4 records “In accordance with recommendation of SRC report and keeping in view the over all support of Public the Union Government has introduced a constitutional amendment bill in the Lok Sabha to form a separate single state for Telugu speaking people by merging the Telugu speaking areas of Hyderabad state with Andhra State.”

Telangana people never wanted United Andhra Pradesh and always cherished their own Telangana state. The Government of India owing to certain constrains while accepting the SRC recommendations made two departures viz. Telangana and Vidharbha. The main reason was that if Telangana were given statehood the Nizam would continue as ‘Rajpramukh as the constitutional head of truncated Hyderabad (Telangana) state, because at the time of Hyderabad state’s merger with Indian Union the Government of India had given a written assurance to the Nizam that he would be the lifetime Rajpramukh. Hereditary appointments are against the republic spirit of the Indian constitution.

Page 25 para 93 of the SRC Report reads :
“i) Preservation and strengthening of the unity and security of India.
ii) Financial economic and administration considerations.
iii) Successful working of the National plan.
iv) Linguistics and cultural homogeneity.”

It is pertinent to make mention that Andhra Pradesh was not formed on the linguistic basis. If it were to be formed on the linguistic basis it would have got, Ganjam, Berhampur and Parlakmidi from Orissa state, Hampi (Bellary) which was capital of Vijayanagara (Telugu people) empire from Karnataka and it would not have got Tamil speaking areas of Tirupathi from Tamilnadu. It is curious to know the Andhra Maha Sabha when it was spearheading the Andhra State movement, gave a clarion call to Andhra to boycott both English textiles and Tirupathi (As it wall Tamil temple). True, people memory is proverbially short. It is also interesting to know late P. Thimma Reddy while vociferously denuding the inclusion of Bellary in Andhra Pradesh in the Andhra Assembly at Kurnool said that Rayalaseema districts were BACKward districts.

B = for Bellary
A = for Anantapur
C = for Cuddapah, Chittor
K = for Kurnool

He also said the acronym of BACKward would be real when Bellary was included. He also said that without Bellary, Rayalaseema was without head. (Discussion of the States Re-organisation bill 4th April 1956 : Vol VI pp 431). In same vein Shri Ram Chandra Reddy M.P, while discussing SR Bill in the Lok Sabha on 24-4-1956 he forcefully demanded for the inclusion of Bellary in Andhra Pradesh. He averred that “if Bellary is taken away, the portion of Rayalaseema will become not only still backward but also awkward”.

Thirdly Page 12 Para 5 of the booklet “with the enactment of the Andhra Pradesh State Act, the State of Andhra Pradesh was formed on 1st November, 1956 with Hyderabad as its capital. The emergence of Andhra Pradesh as separate state, purely on linguistic basis, is a turning point in this history of Independent India”.

Dr. B. Gopal Reddy while answering to Andhra state’s Legislative Members asserted in unequivocal terms that Andhra Pradesh was not formed on the linguistic basis. Consequently all Telugu speaking areas could not be merged in Andhra Pradesh.

Fourthly, it smacks of something like chauvinism. Here the Government of India in unequivocal terms rejected the theory of unilingual (Single) states. Jawaharlal Nehru’s speech in the Lok Sabha on states Re-organisation Bill, 1956 on 10th August 1956 said, “We do not stand for this principle of unilingualism.”

Fifthly, other glaring omissions were the very Hyderabad state’s name itself and names of it’s Chief Minister Sri B. Ram Krishna Rao and its Rajpramukh His Excellency Mr. Osman Ali Khan from the incumbency lists of Chief Minister and Governors. (Appendix II & III of the booklet Andhra Pradesh Legislature PP 38 & 39)

Lastly, another egregious howler in the booklet committed was in page 11 para 3 : “The Government of India took police action in September, 1948 and placed entire Nizam state under the military rule with major J.N. Chowdhary.”

The military officer was Major General not Major and the booklet without historical hindsight informs that the Government of India had established military rule in Hyderabad. It is totally incorrect. In a democratic country there is no room for military rule. If it were a military rule why the Government of India should refer “Operation Polo” as Police Action. It is interesting to note that the cost of Operation Polo was debited to the account of Ministry of Health of Government of India.

The booklet is deliberately demolished or distorted the identity of Telangana people. It is not out place to mention that the Telangana identity is not based on either language or religion; it is based on HISTORY. In the course of history cultural characteristics and structures are different from those in the rest of Telugu speaking areas. Telanganties instead of Telugu language cherish their HISTORY and TRADITION of cultural synthesis as their identity.

The booklet is prejudicial to the best interests of history in general and Telangana people in particular. The distortion of history could stand as paradigm for much of Andhra political life.

Ankylosing Spondylitis

No matter how much I discuss this topic it comes to forefront as the topic of contention between Telanganas and Andhras. The Telangana separation issue has now become Who-Gets-Hyderabad issue. A city is supposed to invite settlers but that should not lead to settlers separating the city from that region. Such a precedent is ominous for development of any city on this planet. That shall usher a new trend in xenophobia where no city will now allow settlers.

Here I discuss few other aspects that are discussed regarding status of Hyderabad.

Right now people of Telangana are poised to attain statehood. This fight for separate state started in 1950s itself and has taken fifty years to attain. Telangana was one of the three regions of Nizam State, also called Hyderabad State. One of the prime jewels of this region was Hyderabad city.When Telangana merged with Andhra State to form Andhra Pradesh, it was decided to treat each of these regions distinctly, though they were in the same state. Those agreements were flouted much to the chagrin of Telangana people who felt betrayed. This saga of betrayal is a long and protracted one. Telangana people have launched a people’s movement, democratic movement, legal movement and electoral movement, all of which failed.

The current issue of contention is city of Hyderabad. Who should get it? Should Telangana get it? Should Andhras get it? Or should Hyderabad be converted into independent state or union territory?

This is not the first time this happened in India where the ownership of capital city had come into question. Gujaratis launched a major protest to get Mumbai for themselves. There were many Gujaratis in Mumbai and it was a cosmopolitan city. The locals may even have been in minority in that city. However, the city was retained by Maharashtra.

Right now, there are many cities in Andhra region, like Nellore, Rajamundry, Vijaywada, Vizag, or Kakinada. Nobody discusses the fate of these cities because it is easily concluded that these cities belong to Andhras. But they do discuss the state of Hyderabad, because rest of Andhra sees Hyderabad as their capital city first and city of Telangana second, while Telangana people see it as their city first and capital city second.

It’s very clear now for everyone why there is so much opposition to formation of Telangana.Samaikhya-Andhra agitation can be easily called We-won’t-give-you-Hyderabad agitation. It is no longer a cloak and dagger affair. Everyone understands this now - Andhra doesn’t want to give up Hyderabad to Telangana. They are going to fight this tooth and nail. If they don’t get it, they don’t want anyone to get it – they would then want to convert Hyderabad into a Union Territory or a new State.

So there are many claims made by Andhras to possess this city. There are three important ones.

#1. Andhra people paid for taxes that build this city

To start with, let’s get this clear. Hyderabad was not an empty city in 1950s. The city was already a famous city in the world of a well known kingdom having its own airline. Hyderabad’s Salarjung Museum was a world-renowned museum, and many landmarks of the city like Hussain Sagar, Charminar, etc, were already built by then. City was served by many man-made water tanks in the nearby lying areas outside the city. Osmania University was a very big university. Hyderabad city was the affluent, cosmopolitan, and cultural capital of that region.

Hyderabad also grew on various fronts after it became capital of Andhra Pradesh. The initial growth came about because of Center’s interest to create strategic cities in India, and Hyderabad got its share of institutes and infrastructure. The growth in the last twenty years has been tremendous but that has been the case for many other cities in India due the onset of liberalization policies in the country.

No doubt Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana people contributed to the taxes that were used by the state government to fund the growth of Hyderabad city. But then, every other city in Andhra region was also funded by the state government which took taxes not only from Andhras, but also from people of Rayalaseema and Telangana. At any point of time, taxes from all regions are used to build various cities with the hope that the cities in turn contribute to the growth of those regions.

While it is true that taxes were collected from the entire state to build the city of Hyderabad, it is also true that Center gave lot of funds to each state to develop their capital cities and infrastructure. That money is collected from people all over India. If Andhras can claim the city just because they paid taxes, should all those Indians living outside Andhra Pradesh also get a part of Hyderabad now? As a corollary, should Telangana people lay claim to the cities of Andhra like Vizag, Rajamundry, Kakinada, Vijayawada, Nellore because they contributed to taxes that were used to build those cities?

During the time of British Empire, only few major cities were built in India. The taxes were collected from various parts of India. Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, though they currently belong to Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, were built using taxes collected from people across Indian subcontinent, including those people residing or migrated to current Pakistan and Bangladesh. When Maharashtra got Mumbai, did it compensate all Indian and Pakistani people who paid these taxes?

Contrary to what people believe, a city does not belong to its tax payers. If that is case, then so many Indians living in San Jose of California can easily claim that city for themselves. A city belongs to the people of that region, not its taxpayers.

Contribution of tax payers of Hyderabad is meager compared to the sacrifices of local regions who have contributed to growth of the city by providing the water, the succor, and the power. They also gave up large tracts of land, contributing Secunderabad and other new regions and new areas that came from districts of Telangana.

Moreover, Telangana contests that the only growth that happened in its region is that of Hyderabad while the rest of Telangana languished in poverty, underdevelopment and neglect. Should Telangana ask for compensation for the development that happened in Andhra at the cost of neglect in Telangana?

#2. Andhra people invested into the this city heavily

Can a certain section of people claim a city just because they have invested heavily into it? Can they take credit for developing the city because they have invested in real estate projects and businesses?

Regions all over the planet keep the doors of their cities open to all kinds of settlers both national and foreigners to settle down in their cities. Intel, TI, Cisco, and many foreign companies have invested heavily into Bangalore. Ambanis and many Gujaratis have invested heavily in Mumbai.Does that mean they can take credit for the development of the city and then use that to make a case for separating those cities from their regions? Can people of Jharkhand who have invested in Bihar claim Patna?

Andhras, how much ever they have invested in Hyderabad cannot claim Hyderabad for themselves or for their mother region of Andhra. In fact the investments of Andhras into the city of Hyderabad are insignificant. Most of the city was developed during the time of Nizam, followed by investments from the Center, followed by funds coming from many banks and investment groups. Most of Andhras’ investments have gone into getting assets for themselves which will continue to be held by them.

Modern countries have not given away their cities to investors, not as yet. Investors invest in a city to serve their vested interest, not out of altruistic or charitable reason. They are entitled to take their investments out whenever they want to. Intel, Cisco or TI can take away their investments out of Bangalore anytime selling of their assets.

There can be no compensation made for any investment if the city changes governments or changes states. If someone thinks that their investments are not going to give good returns they can sell off their investments, not seek compensation from the government.

#3. Many people including Andhra people have made this city their home

Just because Andhras made Hyderabad their home does not mean they can now claim it for themselves. Imagine Bangladeshi settlers in Kolkata claiming certain parts of the city for themselves. Will that change if they are Bihari settlers or Gorkha settlers?

A city continues to belong to the region it resides in no matter how many settlers it invites to settle in. Hyderabad continues to belong to Telangana no matter how many Gujarati, Andhra, Rayalaseema, Telangana or Tamils live there.

Land Grabbers

A recent issue of Outlook had a cover story on Koda, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, who is alleged to have looted Rs 4,000 crore from the state. A related article in the magazine was on all the scams that have taken place in India and how little we seem to care about all those stories on corruption.

The Reddy brothers, YSR’s family, Koda, Raja - these are just the latest additions. They are the tip of the iceberg. For the record, all of them get away with the loot, and continue to be in positions of influence. Indeed, I cannot think of a single politician who has put behind bars for corruption.

This is a cancer that is not restricted to any particular political party. It infects the whole system. An honest politician has become an oxymoron.

Politics has become a way - and perhaps the only way in India today - to amass unimaginable wealth in the shortest possible of time. Of course, entry to the club is becoming increasingly difficult because politicians have realised that getting one or more of their offsprings into politics is the surest way of ensuring the ill-gotten wealth stays. The façade of ‘youth’ is being used to legitimise power and money procured by dubious means.

We, the voters of the country, are as much to blame. We don’t demand accountability. We keep voting back to power the same folks who keep ripping us off. And in all this, we stay a poor country - waiting forever for the date with destiny.

GHMC Elections

Why are the Congress and the TDP candidates spending up to Rs. two crore each to get elected as a corporator in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation?

A corporator who gets a monthly salary of Rs.3000 will have to toil for 600 years merely to recoup the investment in elections, without taking the cost of interest into account.

Traditional party contestants are not fools to throw away precious money down the Musi merely to get elected as corporators. They are looking forward to making many times their investment in the business of politics through umpteen ways ranging from collecting commissions from contractors and land grabbers to facilitating land dispute settlements and postings and transfers of officials.
The two political wolves are fighting for the right to eat the humble lamb, the voter.

Make no mistake; the two parties (TDP and CONGRESS)would not even think of transferring resources and powers to local governments as envisaged by Article 243 of the Constitution. In pursuance of the Constitutional provision, the Government of India inserted a conditionality for making available funds under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The condition is that the State Governments should empower local Governments by transferring resources and responsibilities to be eligible for funds under the JNNURM. Although the State Government adopted a law as early as in 2008 to empower local governments, it had not implemented it since it would deprive the rulers of the advantages of centralized power. Which politician in the State would like to forgo the opportunity of making money by empowering local governments? It would be tantamount to committing hara-kiri.
There are two kinds of politics in vogue today. The traditional parties believe in luring voters with money, liquor and biryani or by offering short-term inducements like television sets and cash transfers or make political mileage by dividing them on the basis of religion and caste, language and region. They don’t believe in empowering people with provision of quality healthcare and education and opportunities for livelihood.

In contrast to them, the Lok Satta believes in the innate wisdom of the voters who are self-respecting and love their children and families. If The Power is given to the people they can transform this society.

There is no magic wand which can transform society and improve people’s lives. Even if Mahatma Gandhi were to be reborn, he too would fail unless people are empowered as envisaged by him decades ago.

Telangana Real Reasons

Telangana was a separate state until 1956.
India is under Britishers' rule before 1947. So what?

n-Telangana area people got used to using Telangana share of water, jobs, political power, so if Telangana created, they are worried about losing these.

Many Telangana People are working abroad including many from our own families, What if those countries say "You are not from our country, Go back to your Andhra Pradesh? So, all the NRIs who are holding gatherings in USA are willing to leave USA right away, come and settle back in hyderabad. How many will do it today ? ZERO.. ZERO.. ZERO.. We all want our luxuries, we won't leave our luxuries, but ready to go, we are and put clashes among the peaceful Andhra Pradeshpeople from USA. Great.."

1) Go to any state govt office in Hyderabad itself, more than 90% of non-Telangana employees, due 2 politicaldomination by Non-Telangana. So no major project in Telangana inspite of 55% total AP tax from Telangana

2) Two major rivers pass through Telangana, no major irrigation project in Telangana.
Whose fault is this? all these 50 years Telangana don't have any MLAs, MPs, Ministers? So, what all these leaders from Telangana are doing? Taagi tongunnaara? Ok, If you say No, then why didn't we hold their collars and asked where is the development in Telangana? Aren't there any backward places in Andhra Pradesh other than Telangana?

3) No Telangana CM allowed 2 continue for more then 2 yrs in AP.
Allowed? Who need to Allow them? Their removal is due to the reason that they are from Telangana? Oh! Come on..

4) Hyd was capital of Telangana for last 400 years before merging it with AP state. Who built Assembly? High Court? Hussain Sagar?
If this is logic to ask, then don't worry, NIZAM's family members are still living in Hyderabad, Give it to them.

5) Some Businesses built by Non-Telangana people are for their own profit, not for developing Telangana.

It is not where you built the business, It is who built that business. anyway, they are all not from USA, UK came here and built their businesses and making money. They all are part of our state Andhra Pradesh.

6) Few Non-Telangana politicians for their illegal business interests and other personal gains, opposing Telangana state.
Put the personal gains aside, and let us think like people of United Andhra. Personal interests will be there always. who doesn't have? How sure we are that these so called Telangana leaders doesn't have their personal gains involved and personal dreams involved in their politics?

7) If Telangana created, none of Non-Telangana people will have any problem for their business or houses or jobs if they are already living in Telangana/Hyderabad.
Hahaha.. Good Joke.. I will build my house in the middle of Settlers' house (day before yester day KCR), Telangana wala Jaago, Andhra wala Bhaago (KCR today), Shahar hamara, Ghar bhi Hamara, Poora Hamaara (KCR tomorrow)

Who can give assurance on the safety and security of those families who made hyderabad or any other place in Telangana their home? What if Old City Muslims say Hyderabad is our Nizams, people from other telangana districts get lost? "WHAT IF SAME FORMULA WHAT PRO TELANGANA GUYS ASKING TODAY, WILL HIT BACK TO THEM TOMORROW BY HYDERABADI MUSLIMS?

8) Lots of Telugus stay in Bangalore, do business there, is it justified to ask for Bangalore in AP?
Lots of telugu people live in Bangalore. Is it Justified if Karnataka Government throw them away over night from BANGALORE AND KARNATAKA?

9) Naxalism is just a reason for the other area leaders to oppose Telangana. Telangana will have more benefits even with Naxalism if separate state is created, Telangana will have lot of funds and can start major irrigation projects
Naxalism is every where. start from Khammam until srikakulam. If our reasoning is TELANGANA people are dying to live, then from where the said 55% taxes are coming from Telangana people's pockets? are people from all regions of AP who are living in Hyderabad are paying taxes on Telangana region behalf as well? What if all those businesses, knowledge, people, resources left Telangana the moment we divide the state? they may loose in the beginning by shifting their businesses to their own regions, but at the end they will gain and we are the one loose. Then we all go to those town looking for job and they will chase us with stones and sticks the way we are doing today. Is that sounds cool?

If we can get those irrigation projects, those projects should have come by now. 50 years is not a small period. So, blame our leaders who are asking for separate state today, by asking them what exactly they have done for the region so far..

PLEASE GUYS.. OURS is a state for TELUGU people. Let all the TELUGUS stay united. Don't bring in the dangerous separatism which britishers did hundred years ago.

If we say Telangana today, tomorrow some other GANAA.. day after tomorrow some other GAANAA.. this will continue. within a day after chidambaram announcement, already 10 demands came for separate states. If this continues, very soon some of the Indian states will Join PAKISTAN, some CHINA and some AFGHANISTHAN..

Be united, get special packages for the backward regions and let us develop the state together, don't bring in fights between brothers and sisters

If people really want telangana, BJP & TRS should have won the elections in 2009 six months ago, If really people of telangana want telangana, KCR baajaapthu gaa 20 rojula kritham GHMC lo contest chese vaadu.

TELANGANA CONGRESS LEADERS ARE THE SICKENING B*S*RDS who are encouraging all these things from behind the scene as they all are wearing bangles of SONIA GANDHI.

BJP is trying to regain some IMAGE as KCR is trying desperately so that they can put the Congress state Government in deep trouble and by doing so, demands all over India will raise for separate state to which congress won't say YES right away, and they can take it to their advantage in those states by saying "ONE VOTE - TWO STATES".

Wake up guys, wake up.. don't buy the stories of Separatists (specially TELANGANA leaders irrespective of party. Some of the TDP telangana leaders are the main reason for all this situation especially in TDP. they forced until TDP join hands with TRS and by doing so they made TDP hands dirty too. at least now, let us clean our hands and souls. It is better late than never.)
