I was browsing through my one of my old card binders the other day, looking to see if any new deck ideas would pop into my head. While looking I realized there’s some cards from back then that could be re-made as new card types. Jandor’s Saddlebags would make a great equipment to put on the ol’ Ebony Horse. Horses need horse tack after-all right? Joira’s Toolbox seems like it would be good for a tinker style deck, maybe giving the equipped creature the ability to regenerate an artifact or bring one back from the graveyard. I know the old cards abilities don’t match this line of thinking, but the names are what inspired it.

I’ve been so out of touch with Magic over the last (great) number of years and so many changes have been made to the game that it took a while to really get back into and know what was going on. I’ve pretty much caught up on everything so I decided to take the Rules Adviser test and see how I’d do. I failed miserably! I’m going to have to spend some time with the official rules website to brush up a little more.

Since I’m running tournaments now it would be good to become an official Judge, but to do that you need to actually go to other tournaments and learn from other judges. That’s a problem since I’ve got a wife and kid and a business to look after. With the nearest big tournaments over 3 hours drive from here, I can’t just abandon everything to go play cards, learn stuff and be forced to use gross public toilets. So I’ll settle for becoming a rules adviser instead, it’s just a step below judge and all you have to do is pass an online test. Being a tournament organizer gives me the right to be head judge anyway, but it would be nice to have someone official if I ever attempt to run larger tournaments.

Having our little Magic tournaments on Saturday night just doesn’t seem to be working out that well. It started good, 10 people showed up, but then the next week only 5 and then the following week only 3. The problem is that the other shop in town plays Saturday afternoon, so by the time they finish, people have either had enough magic for the day or they want to go get food or see a movie or something, so 5pm on Saturday just wasn’t a good time slot. So now we’re going to try 6pm on Friday’s, feedback is good so far but we’ll see how many actually turn up tomorrow night.

I hate sneakers these days, it takes forever to find a good comfortable pair and then they typically don’t even last a year regardless of how much they cost. And what’s with all the fanciness now? Air pockets here and there. Now if I get the bottom of my right sneaker wet it proceeds to whistle and squish until it dries out, very annoying. I thought Reebok were supposed to be pretty durable but I think I’ve only had these for about 9 months.

So I’ve been looking around again, checked out some polo boots but they’re more suited for bowling or golf from the looks of ‘em. Next I’ll probably go hit up the local department store and see what’s on their $15 rack. If they’re only gonna last a short time I might as well get ‘em cheap. As long as they don’t hurt my feet, that’s the hard part.

I placed 7th, the deck I built wasn’t very good. Even though I had play-tested an online version of it, I couldn’t find all the cards I needed out here in the real world and the deck suffered because of it. I took a few pictures since Wizards requires some pictures of the play area in use, not enough to make a grand slide show or anything, just a few shots from around the store and a bunch of people intently trying to beat each other up with paper.

The problem with owning a business that’s evolved several times during it’s 11 year life is the accumulated junk from things you’ve tried out that in the end just didn’t sell well enough to continue carrying. One good example is costume jewelery. I had found a place to get wholesale jewelry at just a few bucks each for silver rings, so we bought several dozen. Quite a lot of it did sell, but I’m still stuck with at least 20 rings that just never sold. There’s lots of stuff like that cluttering up the store, and no matter how cheap I mark it down it just sits. I’ve taken to giving some of it away whenever someone comes around looking for donations for whatever fund raiser they’re working for. So far that seems to work at least.

I feel like I wasted nearly a thousand bucks a few years back when I bought my new car. I opted for the Audiophile package that included an in-dash 6 disc CD changer and supposedly better than average speakers. I’m pretty happy with the speakers really, but the 6 disc changer rarely gets used since adding a couple of iPod accessories to the car. The main one being a Belkin iPod dock that broadcasts whatever the iPod is playing via FM signal to the car radio, so I can load up a few hundred songs on a crappy old iPod and have it go for hours without needing to change anything.

I’ve decided that while I’m not giving up completely on drafting online, I’m going to stick to Swiss drafts so I’ll at least get to play all 3 rounds, win or lose. Since making that decision I seem to be doing a little better. I bought 3 packs and drafted a few days ago, winning 2 rounds and thereby winning 2 packs. I bought a 3rd to go with them and drafted again, this time also winning 2 packs. Sure it’s only $8 worth of winnings so it’s not like I could go out and buy some new mbt shoes but it lets me play extra games practically for free, so that’s cool, and I get cards out of it that I can either add to my collection or sell to help pay for more games.

Took part in an M11 draft last night, I drafted mostly red and could have done mono-red but splashed in a little green for extra beefy creatures to use with Fling. I built the deck around 2 Chandra’s Spitfire, 2 Fling, 2 Fireball, 1 Lightning Bolt and some random red & green critters. Awakener Druid tends to be good in limited since he brings a 4/5 beastie with him.

The best moment was probably when my mono-black opponent with 4 swamps on the table and a Whispersilk Cloak in play dropped a Nantuko Shade. It’s a combo he had used to win most of his previous games of the evening. My mountains were tapped so I guess he thought he was safe to bring in the shade and equip it before I could bolt/fireball it next turn. He tapped his last 2 swamps to equip the cloak and I responded with the green beast that is Hornet Sting. Aww yeah.

I’ve been saying it for years now but I finally got around to doing it, I got myself a truck. Just a small one, a Ford Ranger, and it was cheap. The truck itself was only $600 and it didn’t need much work to get it road legal. Technically it was already legal since the safety inspection is good for another year, but it did need some work. A new power steering hose, a new fan belt, some body work and a couple of tires for the front. It’s not pretty but it runs well and suits my needs just fine.

It had been in a little fender bender at some point which is easy to tell just looking at the front fenders (which aren’t even the originals!) they look like they could use a visit to www.wrinklefiller.org, but nah, the bumps and bruises add character and the multi-color paint job too. It all adds up to a truck that no one would bother to steal cause it just doesn’t look like it’s worth anything >;)

My shipment of Magic 2011 (M11) came in today so I immediately started cracking open booster packs, it’s fun opening new packs from a new set, even better than Swisher Sweets. The first 2 boxes were disappointing, lots of good cards but none of the high value ones, so I went ahead and opened a 3rd box and it’s a good thing I did! In that third box was a Baneslayer Angel, Primeval Titan, Jace Beleren, Chandra, Lilliana and several other decent cards. My store is small and only has a handful of regular customers for Magic cards, so I think 3 boxes is plenty for now. If the singles sell out quickly though I’ll open more, but most people around here like to just buy boosters and hope for the best rather than buy singles.

I’ve opened a couple boxes of M11 so far but it’s been a little disappointing overall from a retail stand point. No, I haven’t broken street date and I won’t be selling the singles until Friday, it’s just easier to get them open and ready ahead of time. No Baneslayer Angel, no Primeval Titan, no Fauna Shaman. Out of 2 boxes! Oh well, with only around 4 mythic rares in a box and 16 mythic in the set you’re bound to not get what you want in every box.

Now then, I’m off to either read some fat burner reviews or go play some Magic Online. Magic it is! My latest casual deck revolves around artifacts again and requires a silly amount of mana to run smoothly. It’s a very slow starter but once it gets rolling it’s certainly interesting.

We are very careful these days when it comes to selling “M” rated games – “M” rated means mature games – that sometimes include violence, nudity and blood/killing. We are careful – not only because it is by law we cannot sell “M” rated games to minor but we cannot in good conscience turn a blind eyes and make the money because we are greedy. Just like doing apidexin reviews reviewers I am sure take them seriously too and like them we don’t want to recommend something that is not suitable.

Integrity is very important in our kind of business – and we are also more vigilant now because the spouse had accidentally sold a copy of War Of World to a 14 yrs old who looked like 17. Little did she know – plus she wasn’t paying attention to the rating – because the kid came in with a purpose – propped the exact amount and left very quickly. It was only a few days later – his mother came online on FB to tell us off – that we were made known of it. But parents should first talk to their kids because kids will be kids – they are rebellious and if they see their friends playing it and you don’t allow it – that he should resort to buying it and tricking the clerk on the counter – then seriously – as parents we should definitely sit our kid down and talk to them – and not call the poor store/clerk names.

We deal with lots of customers everyday – and as hard as we try – if the store is busy – we are only human and we too err. But because of that particular incident – we are on a RED alert. So in a way – we have to thank this unreasonable/irate mom.

Started watching this new show called Hung recently, the first season was pretty short and season 2 has already started on TV so I guess it must have had decent ratings. It’s not quite what I was expecting but the show is enjoyable enough. Basically there’s this school coach who is hurting for cash and after taking a self-help type class he comes to the realization that since he has a big dick he can make money by joining the oldest profession in the world.

His male hooking business takes a few episodes to properly get off the ground despite the fact that he doesn’t need to waste time with extenze male enhancements, his pimp just isn’t a very good pimp. I was expecting it to be a little more like Californication, more comedy and less drama, but now that they’re in to a second season I think maybe things will improve with the show.
