Took part in an M11 draft last night, I drafted mostly red and could have done mono-red but splashed in a little green for extra beefy creatures to use with Fling. I built the deck around 2 Chandra’s Spitfire, 2 Fling, 2 Fireball, 1 Lightning Bolt and some random red & green critters. Awakener Druid tends to be good in limited since he brings a 4/5 beastie with him.

The best moment was probably when my mono-black opponent with 4 swamps on the table and a Whispersilk Cloak in play dropped a Nantuko Shade. It’s a combo he had used to win most of his previous games of the evening. My mountains were tapped so I guess he thought he was safe to bring in the shade and equip it before I could bolt/fireball it next turn. He tapped his last 2 swamps to equip the cloak and I responded with the green beast that is Hornet Sting. Aww yeah.

I’ve been saying it for years now but I finally got around to doing it, I got myself a truck. Just a small one, a Ford Ranger, and it was cheap. The truck itself was only $600 and it didn’t need much work to get it road legal. Technically it was already legal since the safety inspection is good for another year, but it did need some work. A new power steering hose, a new fan belt, some body work and a couple of tires for the front. It’s not pretty but it runs well and suits my needs just fine.

It had been in a little fender bender at some point which is easy to tell just looking at the front fenders (which aren’t even the originals!) they look like they could use a visit to www.wrinklefiller.org, but nah, the bumps and bruises add character and the multi-color paint job too. It all adds up to a truck that no one would bother to steal cause it just doesn’t look like it’s worth anything >;)

My shipment of Magic 2011 (M11) came in today so I immediately started cracking open booster packs, it’s fun opening new packs from a new set, even better than Swisher Sweets. The first 2 boxes were disappointing, lots of good cards but none of the high value ones, so I went ahead and opened a 3rd box and it’s a good thing I did! In that third box was a Baneslayer Angel, Primeval Titan, Jace Beleren, Chandra, Lilliana and several other decent cards. My store is small and only has a handful of regular customers for Magic cards, so I think 3 boxes is plenty for now. If the singles sell out quickly though I’ll open more, but most people around here like to just buy boosters and hope for the best rather than buy singles.

I’ve opened a couple boxes of M11 so far but it’s been a little disappointing overall from a retail stand point. No, I haven’t broken street date and I won’t be selling the singles until Friday, it’s just easier to get them open and ready ahead of time. No Baneslayer Angel, no Primeval Titan, no Fauna Shaman. Out of 2 boxes! Oh well, with only around 4 mythic rares in a box and 16 mythic in the set you’re bound to not get what you want in every box.

Now then, I’m off to either read some fat burner reviews or go play some Magic Online. Magic it is! My latest casual deck revolves around artifacts again and requires a silly amount of mana to run smoothly. It’s a very slow starter but once it gets rolling it’s certainly interesting.

We are very careful these days when it comes to selling “M” rated games – “M” rated means mature games – that sometimes include violence, nudity and blood/killing. We are careful – not only because it is by law we cannot sell “M” rated games to minor but we cannot in good conscience turn a blind eyes and make the money because we are greedy. Just like doing apidexin reviews reviewers I am sure take them seriously too and like them we don’t want to recommend something that is not suitable.

Integrity is very important in our kind of business – and we are also more vigilant now because the spouse had accidentally sold a copy of War Of World to a 14 yrs old who looked like 17. Little did she know – plus she wasn’t paying attention to the rating – because the kid came in with a purpose – propped the exact amount and left very quickly. It was only a few days later – his mother came online on FB to tell us off – that we were made known of it. But parents should first talk to their kids because kids will be kids – they are rebellious and if they see their friends playing it and you don’t allow it – that he should resort to buying it and tricking the clerk on the counter – then seriously – as parents we should definitely sit our kid down and talk to them – and not call the poor store/clerk names.

We deal with lots of customers everyday – and as hard as we try – if the store is busy – we are only human and we too err. But because of that particular incident – we are on a RED alert. So in a way – we have to thank this unreasonable/irate mom.

Started watching this new show called Hung recently, the first season was pretty short and season 2 has already started on TV so I guess it must have had decent ratings. It’s not quite what I was expecting but the show is enjoyable enough. Basically there’s this school coach who is hurting for cash and after taking a self-help type class he comes to the realization that since he has a big dick he can make money by joining the oldest profession in the world.

His male hooking business takes a few episodes to properly get off the ground despite the fact that he doesn’t need to waste time with extenze male enhancements, his pimp just isn’t a very good pimp. I was expecting it to be a little more like Californication, more comedy and less drama, but now that they’re in to a second season I think maybe things will improve with the show.

Damn it’s been a hot summer so far and it’s barely started! Temperatures have been over 25 celcius already pretty much every day for the last week, but stuff needs to get done regardless of how hot it is. Mowed the lawn, put up the trampoline for the kid, started putting up a frame around the deck so we can fence it in with mosquito net so maybe we can enjoy the outdoors a little more this year without getting eaten alive by little blood suckers.

It’s a good thing I’m a pretty stress free guy or I’d be needing migraine treatments by now. It’s good to be busy, but it’s good to have some time off to rest. I’m not complaining though, things are a lot worse for many businesses in this town since our tourism industry has been cut off at the knees this year.

I’m one of those people who tends to behave in a game like I do in real life. Take Bioshock 2 for instance. You pick up a little sister and have a choice of adopting her or harvesting her for Adam. I always pick adopt. then I run around and do a couple gatherings and bring her to a vent where I have a choice to save her or harvest her. Harvesting gives a bigger reward, but is the “evil” choice. Again I choose to save the little girl, because that is what I’d do if it were real.

Sometimes I don’t follow those ‘rules’ though, particularly in games where it’s not really going to affect the story. Let a guy go or shoot him in the head? Bang. Easy choice.
I don’t smoke cigarettes, I don’t drink booze and I don’t do drugs in real life, but in a game who cares; it’s all fake so there’s no harm done.

And of course some games have achievements and different endings which encourage being evil, so if I decide to play through Bioshock 2 again after I beat it, I’ll be harvesting souls like there’s no tomorrow >=)

After finishing off Final Fantasy XIII I headed to my game shelf to see what I should work on next. I only had a few achievements left to get in Lego Indiana Jones so I blew through those in a couple of hours and then looked again. I settled on Bioshock 2, a game I got on launch day, played a few hours and then forgot about. I was a little put off by it because even though you’re a Big Daddy in the game, the random monsters you encounter can kill you in 4 or 5 hits. That was really lame! Lamer than hooking a PC up to a hi-def TV using an RCA cable when you have a nice VGA cable to use instead. Yeah I don’t know where I was going with that analogy either.

Bioshock 2 is ramping up to be quite nice though after sinking a few more hours into it and finally getting some upgrades. Some of the enemies still wreck my shit completely though and cause me to burn through all my health kits, but at least they are tougher than normal monsters so it makes sense. Having the right ammo for the job makes a huge difference too though, I encountered my first bomb & turret chucking version of the Big Daddy last night, but since I had 2 clips of armor piercing rounds I was able to take it down easily with hardly any damage to myself.

Every time I fire up a new Facebook game I can’t help but feel that I’ve played it before. Sure the graphics are different and the names of things are similar but not quite the same. But the basics are identical. Click on something and energy gets used. When energy is gone you have to wait a while before you can play again. Doing stuff to earn in-game money, the more it costs the more you’ll get back and the longer it’ll take to get it back. So whether you’re building a barn in Farmville, robbing people in Mafia Wars, or polishing your Hon office furniture in Futuristic Space Sim Business Tower of Clowns, it all boils down to “same shit different pile”. And yet here I sit, feeding chicks in Frontierville, and enjoying it anyway!

I used to bring my xbox 360 hard drive to work with me from time to time so I’d have access to my library of Rock Band songs available in the store when I had it running on demo. Now I’ve got all my save games and most of my Rock Band songs on a flash drive since the new update a couple months back now allows the use of regular flash drives as memory units. It’s a lot easier than lugging around the whole hard drive, as long as the Xbox I’m plugging in to has been udpated to support it.

Now with the new 360 slim having the HD built in like the PS3, you can’t just easily take it with you anymore so it really is good that they allow the use of flash drives now. I’d like to get one of the new units, but I think I’ll wait a while to see if they have any massive hardware issues like the old versions did.

Tonight I’m taking part in my first draft in MTGO. After looking through the tournament types I finally settled on an M10 Swiss draft. This way I get to play all 3 rounds whether I win or lose, and at the end I win a booster pack for each match that I won. Plus I get to keep the cards I drafted. I really have no idea what to look for as far as “best cards” go, but out of 3 packs I ended up snagging 6 rares. Some I won’t be using in my deck but I just couldn’t pass up the chance to snag extra rares.

First match is over and it was definitely more fun than reading diet pill reviews, I won the match 2-0. Here’s to hoping rounds 2 and 3 go just as well. I suppose it’s not the greatest, playing swiss, since even if I win all 3 rounds I get 3 packs whereas with regular drafts you have a chance to win as many as 8 packs. Gotta come in first to do that though and if you lose a match you’re done, so your chances are much better with Swiss.

Looks like my deck was too fast, the other games in round 1 aren’t even done yet.

They also don’t have new releases from the last 2 or 3 weeks, the newest they had was The Spy Next Door and Extraordinary Measures. No sign of Alice in Wonderland, Wolfman, Dear John or any others. Their New Arrivals board that typically lists which movies are coming out during the month hasn’t been updated since April either. I don’t know if it’s just fallout from the bankruptcy in the States that is causing a temporary lapse or if it’s a sign of bigger things to come.

I’ve heard rumors lately that Movie Gallery here in Canada may not be doing too well either despite saying that their Canadian operations will be unaffected by their US stores ALL closing. The one here in town has apparently not had any new releases in the last month. Tonight I called them to see if they had Alice in Wonderland or Wolfman in and they hadn’t even received either movie so far. It must suck for the employees, I’m sure they have to deal with a lot of customers on a daily basis who want to know why the new releases aren’t in yet after so long! Sell that store some diet pills, it’s shrinking time! Oh wait, it’s shrinking on it’s own! Can’t way for the going out of business sale to kick in, I’ll be snagging up all kinds of cheap movies to put on my own rental wall >=)
