The Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) held a media send-off for reigning Binibining Pilipinas Sasha Lali-Belle Lacuna, at the Cinema C of the Wolfgang Premiere Lounge in Araneta City; prior to her departure for the international finals in Thailand.

“Sashi is one of the most courageous women I have known. She is driven but composed and calm. She makes people feel loved. Shine your light, Sashi! Enjoy your journey,” shared reigning Binibining Pilipinas International Gwendolyn Soriano, in her message.

The Philippines won the Globe crown twice before. First with Ann Colis in 2015 and then in 2021 with Maureen Montagne.

“It’s helpful that the Miss Globe is three months after the national pageant. So I feel like I’m still in pageant mode, and my training has not stopped. There are a lot of changes with the Miss Globe, especialky in its change of pageant venue,” ehthused Sashi.

In the past, the Miss Globe finals was always held in Tirana, Albania. This year, for the first time, it moved the venue to Thailand.

“I’ve seen how dedicated you are all the time. I remember you were always scribbling something in your notebook during our Sunday training with Aces & Queens camp. You deserve it all,” said Binibining Pilipinas 2026 1st runner-up Julianne Rainne Antonio.

While Maricar Balagtas also won a Miss Globe crown in 2001, it was with an organization having a different owner from the Deliart Association, that’s based in Tirana, Albania.

“You have an army to help and support you,” well-wished Binibining Pilipinas 2026 2nd runner-up Tracy Mae Sunio.

“I have a global perspective and easily connect with people from various backgrounds. Every woman is capable of global connection,” said Sashi, when asked why she should be the next Miss Globe winner.

Baguio’s art mecca celebrates 16th int’l arts fest

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

The Tam-awan Village is currently celebrating its 16th Annual International Arts festival. The 3-day event will culminated last Sunday, Oct 11. Events calendared for the arts fest included venues like SM Baguio and the Volkwagen Museum, among others.

The arts festival opened with a ‘kapihan’ forum at the Ugnayan Gallery.

Workshops like weaving and other crafts, as well as performances like the cañao, were part of the affair.

The Tam-awan International Arts Festival is an annual celebration that brings together artists, cultural practitioners, educators, communities, and audiences from around the Philippines and beyond.

“For the past 16 years, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts has always supported the Tam-awan Village, especially in this month celebrating Museums & Galleries. We look forward to more collaborations with Cordilleran artists,” said Rene Napeñas, speaking in behalf of the government’s art agency.

Under the theme “Obra ken tawid: Pinagtitipon,” (Heritage Lived: Art shared, Community connected) the festival presented the Baguio village as a living cultural space where heritage continues to be practiced and shared through art, community participation, and knowledge exchange. It creates opportunities for artists, cultural bearers, communities, and galleries to connect, collaborate, and celebrate culture together.

“Cultural products abound in the village, as well as other lowland centers in the region. Tam-awan is one of the must-visit destinations in Baguio. There is an indigenous way of terracing our slopes.

“Conservation efforts of artworks from small galleries go hand in hand in hand in addressing soil erosion in some areas,” intoned DOT Cordillera spokesperson Sylvia Chinayog.

After the forum, the attendees broke into group sessions for their respective workshops.

“Tam-awan Village is the only heritage site with an experoential feel. And those who have experienced it have their senses tickled. On the other hand, we don’t want our structures to be overpowered by modern ones,” said Arch. Mylene Yaranon from the Sub-Committee on Architecture.

An interesting discussion that kept the young minds buzzing was the advent of AI in present media formats, as artists joined in the discussion on how to approach it without stifling creativity.

“Join us as we celebrate the stories, traditions, and creativity that has connected us all since 1998,” shared Jordan Mang-osan, co-founder and president of the Chanum Foundation.

MGI 2026 showcased "grand" creations

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

The delegates of the 2026 Miss Grand International sizzled in their respective costumes, as designed and executed by their chosen designers.

The costumes, varying in size and theme, all presented a side of each country’s mythical/mythological, cultural, traditional, and even message to the world like Nepal’s prayer to recovery.

Reina Filipinas Grand International 2026 Angelica Lopez wowed the crowd with a gigantic “Mangkukulam” ensemble. The Patrick Isorena creation harkened to one of Filipino folklore’s most talked-about figures.

Aside from the Philippines, other great designs included that of Bolivia, Tanzania, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.

Those who watched “Forgotten Island,” were wondering if the costume got its aspiration from the Dreamworks’ animated feature - currently screening in cinenas.

This year, there will be three winners of the National Costume Award – one from social media, one from the MGI web site, and one from the judges.

Philippines to host 30th pageant edition

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

The Phililpines will host the 2026 Miss Tourism international in mid December. This was announced by ALV Pageant Circle president Arnold Vegafria during a presser at the Newport Performing Arts Theatsr.

“This pageant aligns with our organization’s platform on local and global tourism. It is a platform to promote our national tourism, culture, heritage, food/cuisine, arts, and music (especially with the P-Pop’s growing popularity). We have collaborated with cities and provinces for venues of the swimsuit preliminary and the talent presentation,” shared the pageant’s national director.

“This is the Philippines’ first time to host the pageant on its 30th anniversary. This was supposed to be held in China but the problem of visa procurement for the delegates necessitated the transfer. So we closed the deal with the international organization. This pageant will hand out two other titles, aside from the Miss Tourism International crown,” he added.

To date, the Philippines has won the Tourism International crown for six times. These were in the years 2000 (Ma. Esperanza Corazon “Peachie” Manzano), 2012 (Razzini Alexis Gomez), 2013 (Angeli Dion Gomez), 2017 (Jannie Laudette Alipo-on), 2019 (Cyrille Payumo), and 2024 (Liana Rose Barrido). Miss World PH returns home from Vietnam finals

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

Miss World 2026 Top 12 placer Asia Rose Simpson returned to Manila five days after the Miss World finals in Nha Trang, Vietnam. The Miss World Philippines and ALV Pageant Circle staff, together with pageant media, welcomed the Fil-Am beauty queen at ber homecoming presser at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) vestibule.

The 19-year-old beauty queen, which observers say had been ‘robbed’ of her moment, showed no trace of heartbeak as many were wont to believe. Instead, the Head-to-Head challenge global winner, gamely answered the queries thrown at her.

“Now that the competitions is over, I miss spending the day with my Miss World sisters; especially the delegates from Singapore, Germany, South Africa, and my roommate Miss Vietnam who I got very close to. It was the best pageant experience I’ve had. In everything, there’s a purpose. You have to let go of the results, ‘coz that’s beyond your control,” shared the eldest Simpson daughter, whose other siblings – two sisters and a younger brother – and their parents were also present during the event.

“It took a while for me to gain your trust. To naysayers, thank you for boosting the rhythm. I can say now that speaking is one of my favorite things. Though, it was not the case before. To future aspirants, know who you are! If you’re not, social media will tell you who they think you are,” she added.

Asia Rose made a good showing at the pre-pageant challenges. She first placed in the Top 60 of the Sports Challenge (placing 24th in swimming and 7th in running), won her continent’s head to head, placed third in the talent show, and was one of the Top 6 for Asia & Oceania’s Beauty with a Purpose project.

“A queen who slays the stage must also know how to work the trenches. Trust God’s plan always. The competition may be over but we are far from over. Philippines, mabuhay!” Asia Rose said at the close of the event.

Beauty camps and supporters may have plans to prepare her for her next pageant journey but the Capiz raised maiden wants to finish her high school education. It’s her goal for the time being.

If plans don’t miscarry, the Miss World Philippines organization and ALV Pageant Circle are planning a homecoming parade for Asia Rose. Stay tuned!

The 73rd edition of the Miss World pageant unfolded from the 2 Thang 4 Square complex in Nha Trang, Vietnam and was witnessed globally through the Miss World Organization’s channel on YouTube.

Rebornne

The next generation skin booster

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

Pink Ventures gathered doctors and clinicians at the Bonifacio Hall of Shangri-La The Fort for an afternoon lecture towards a hopeful new direction in Philippine aesthetics. A Korean and Philippine partnership, the assemblage offered a new tool for doctors and a new option for Filipino patients. Rebornne is a human acellular dermal matrix, a dermal scaffold derived from human tissue.

“Aging skin is not a volume problem. When our skin receive lesser signals, this creates structure issues where functional problems set in. The dermis is an ecosystem and not simply a bag of collagen. When collagen is fragmented, fibroblasts happen because the skin matrix was not fixed.

“The matrix is the environment where the repair happens. Collagen refers to the strength of one’s skin. The sun, however, breaks collagen and elastin in the body. When we also smile when we were younger, the lines turn to wrinkles during our twilight years. Skin has a scaffolding which we follow so as to support the body’s architecture,” informed Dr. Arim Min, director of the Min & Min Clinic in South Korea, in her presentation.

“When I used hADM, my face got firmer and denser so I started using it in my clinic. New technology becomes meaningful when it is used with intention,” she added.

But the truth is, as age increases, collagen decreases. So we need to augment it. Luckily, Rebornne is 80% collagen. It is suggested too that doctors introduce this product as a journey and not a destination.

“We are opening a new chapter by bringing globally developed aesthetic solutions closer to Filipino doctors. We also begin our journey & partnership with JC Bio and GC Wellbeing of South Korea. Proper education, strong medical partnership, continued support, and trust between brand, distributor, and the doctors who use them create the ecosystem for Rebornne’s success,” enthused Pink Ventures founder & CEO Mary Grace Juliano.

The hADM tissue has been certified by the American Association of Tissue Banks. It is also suggested that doctors should choose their patients carefully and go for those with a realistic goal and outlook. Some patients can get carried away with their flights of fancy.

The Rebornne solution believes that the most beautiful skin is the one that still looks like the patient! The new luxury is still looking like yourself, and not a different face!

Ma. Andrea Endicio

MNP sends off representative to Polo Universe competition

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

The Mutya ng Pilipinas (MNP) organization sent off Philippine representative Ma. Andrea Endicio through a formal sashing ceremony and send off party at the CWC Design Center in Makati City.

“We continue with our commitment for our queens to compete overseas. We are the second longest-running pageant competition after Binibining Pilipinas. We want to show the world that in the Philippines, we have solidarity. We are friends with all pageant organizations,” shared MNP president Cory Quirino, after donning the sash on Andrea.

After losing her Tourism International title through ALV Pageant Circle’s acquisition of the Philippine franchise, Andrea was so elated when she was informed that she’ll finally be competing in Dubai.

“I am overjoyed, mixed with a little anxiety. This is a dream come true for me. I’m looking forward to meet my Polo Universe sisters. I am the first Filipina representative to this two-year-old pageant. This is a none-swimsuit pageant that delves more into the advocacy of its delegates,” shared the licensed pharmacist from Candelaria, Quezon Province. Andrea graduated Magna cum laude from.the Unjversity of Sto. Tomas.

Three years ago, while working as a courtside reporter, Andrea was a victim of cybercrime. It was a very dark and trying time for her and her family then, not knowing where to seek help. Fortunately, that episode is all in the past now.

“The youth is the most vulnerable sector in virtual reality. They need proper guidance. When I started my pageant journey in 2019, I was raw; like being sent to school for the first time. I was simply a dreamer then. My 2026 version is an achiever!

“I respect the Middle Eastern temperament. If I’ll be given the chance to win the title, I would slowly introduce women’s empowerment into my platform. This pageant is filled with a lot of speaking engagements; something that’s attuned to my skill set,” enthused Andrea.

It was a circuitous ride for Andrea to finally get her chance to represent the country. She went through several pageant systems - Miss World Philippines then the Binibining Pilipinas unto the Mutya ng Pilipinas - before getting her own crown; which by the way got lost a few months after winning it.

The Miss Polo Universe 2026 coronation night will unfold on Sept 26 at the Movenpick Grand Al Bustan Convention Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Stay tuned!

Mutya ng Pilipinas formally launches MNP Cebu search

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

The Mutya ng Pililinas (MNP) organization formally launched the Mutya ng Pilipinas Cebu competition, the first regional competition in the Visayas area, through a presser at the Seda Hotel in Makati.

The contest is open to all Cebuanas and other interested aspirants from the nearby provinces of Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor. One winner will represent Cebu in the national finals.

“The Cebu organization has committed themselves to community building. They are one of the newest franchisees of MNP. Cebu will be doing more for the community, the Cebuanos, and other women from the Central Visayas region,” enthused MNP president Cory Quirino.

The Cebu competition will hold their screening on Sept 20 at the CWC Interiors Cebu headquarters.

“I find this new assignment as license holder very challenging. However, this gives us an opportunity to reach out to the less fortunate. Aside from raising the MNP brand in the Visayas area,” shared Cebu franchise holder Dr. Sonie dela lCruz.

“As somebody from the Queen City of the South, this platform is a milestone for the Cebuanos. We are up for the challenge, as well as aim to excel and exceed the standard,” intimated license partner Atty. Kim Mendoza.

The Mutya ng Pililinas Cebu platform will benefit the Aguila Business Club and the Climate Change Task Force. The latter entity is now focused on fulfilling the treaty stipulations that the Philippines signed in Paris, where the country will have reduced its carbon footprint to 25% by 2030, bringing our efforts closer to the zero footprint mark.

“This competition will choose the best representative of Cebu. A Cebuana queen always speaks her mind. The quality of the candidates from this regional search will be top notch,” intoned pageant director Rodgil Flores of the KF camp.

Including Cebu, the Mutya ng Pilipinas organization has 17 other national franchisees and six overseas license holders from Fililino communities. Next year, the United Kingdom Filipino community will join the international franchise holders.

The Mutya ng Pilipinas Cebu 2026 coronation night will unfold in the last week of September (either Sept 27 or 28) at the Marco Polo grand ballroom in uptown Cebu. Stay tuned!

BP opens 57th season with magical tale of love

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

Ballet Philippines (BP), the oldest resident company of the CCP, opens its 57th Season with 1001 Nights, a two-hour full-length ballet on love and the triumph of the human spirit.

1001 Nights is a lyrical storytelling of the beloved Arabian tales. It is a compilation of magical and moral stories illustrating a modern interpretation that reflects human psychology. The ballet explores the nature of power, trust, forgiveness, and finally, love which trandforms our lives.

Choreographer Misha Martynyuk created beautiful classical movements that evoke the mysticism of the Arabian tales. In a pas de deux presented during a presser at the Solaire’s Oasis Garden Café, the partners were decked in Arabian finery, completed with plumed headpieces.

“This is a collection of magical, adventurous, and moral stories demonstrating that kindness and wisdom can heal a wounded heart, while violence and vengeance only destroy. It’s a good story to tell at this time of global tension and uncertainties,” said BP president Kathleen Liechtenstein.

The love in this moral tale triumphs because it cannot be extinguished even by the darkest sorcery. It is one written in the stars.

1001 Nights runs from Sept 11 to 13 at The Theater @ Solaire.

Ballet Manila mounts classical production on love and redemption

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

Ballet Manila (BM) closes its Prima Season with Marius Petipa's "La Bayadere," a three-act ballet set in Royal India about a temple dancer (bayadere) who is embroiled in a deadly love triangle.

“La Bayadere is the epitome of classical ballet as it holds a special place in Ballet Manila. We last performed it 13 years ago, with me playing the lead character, Nikiya. This is a great classical piece and audiences would find what they seek in a ballet production.

“This show brings together generations of artists from both Mariinsky Ballet and Ballet Manila. La Bayadere has the most demanding roles in the entire ballet repertoire. This was the last ballet I was in from my Swan Song series that included Swan Lake, Romeo & Juliet, and Carmen.

“This was also the last ballet I watched before leaving Russia. This is very sentimental for me. It makes me feel nostalgic seeing dancers from where i started,” shared BM’s CEO and artistic director.

Leading the cast are Mariinsky Ballet’s principal dancers Renata Shakirova (playing Nikiya) and Kimin Kim (playing Solor).

“La Bayadere is not an easy ballet as it requires technique. I’ve danced as Solor since I was 17 in Korea, and it is one of my favorite ballets. When the overture begins, I start crying. The music of Ludwig Minkus says everything. But you’ll see a different performance on opening night,” said Kim, who confessed he went straight to the technical dress rehearsal from arriving on a 3 am flight in Manila.

“It is my vacation time that’s why I was available when BM invited me to play Solor. But I don’t rest more than two weeks. I take a class everyday before it becomes hard when I return to ballet theater.

“Without love, we can’t dance! There’s positive energy with BM that I like. I’ve danced with Renata for 15 years now; since she did her premiere in Mariinsky. Dancing with her is easy. I just focus on her eyes and everything else follows. Love triangles are hurting. I know coz I’ve experienced it when I was younger,” intimated the Korean principal dancer.

After Manila, Kimin will fly home to Korea where he’ll perform and direct a Don Quixote production in the university where he graduated from.

“You feel several emotions in just one moment in this production. As a little girl, ballet opened a different world for me. It’s also my vacation but I did not want to relax. I do gymnastics and pilates to keep myself in shape.

“Every year, BM’s love for dancing just blossoms. La Bayadere is a drama of two women fighting over a guy. Dancing with Kimin makes us move like one body!” enthused the Russian prima ballerina.

After a short professional gig, Renata and Kimin will fly back to the Philippines for a scheduled trip to Boracay.

La Bayadere opens on August 14, 8 pm at the Aliw Theatre. Two more afternoon shows follow the evening gala on Aug 15 and 16 at 5pm, still on the same venue.

Philippines wins first Mrs. Celebrity Int’l championship in Malaysia

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

Philippine delegate Zoraida “Dang” Bricca, a 5’10” De La Salle University graduate with a Business degree, was crowned the champion, and first Filipino winner, in the recently concluded Mrs. Celebrity International pageant in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur last July 31. She was also proclaimed the Best Catwalk and Country/ Cultural Power of the Year awards recipient. Like other pageants, the candidates competed in several categories & challenges and the highest-scored on coronation night was declared the champion.

Dang’s court, all given the title of Mrs. Celebrity International, were:

- Nana Hoshino (Japan, Grand Champion)

- Olesya Shishkina (Russia)

- Phuong Hue Xuan (Vietnam)

- Lin Li Chi (Taiwan)

The said pageant, which started in 2023, is open to wives and transgender women of all shapes and sizes ranging from 20 to 45 years old and follows the mantra, “Zero hate, zero waste!”

Dang first represented the country in 2024 where she won the Queen of The Universe title in Cairo, Egypt.

“At 17, I wanted to join the Supermodel search but I was still under the age requirement. Then after graduation from college, I flew to the Middle East to work as a flight attendant for Saudia Airlines. Like after two months from graduation, I was already working. Thereafter, I got married so I thought my pageantry dreams were over.

“But, I learned through supportive friends, that it’s never late to pursue your dreams as long as you put your heart in it,” shared the brand owner and desigher of the House of Zora label. She’s also the CEO of the Global Glam Fashion studio.

This week, Dang will commence her outreach program with the CRIBS Foundation of Antipolo that will benefit abandoned, neglected, and surrendered infants & toddlers; as well as minor female survivors of sexual abuse seeking healing & recovery.

Next year, there will be a national competition where provincial delegates will compete for the chance to represent the country and vie for the international title in Thailand.

Gwendoline Meliz Soriano: Aspirational leader!

By Earl D.C. Bracamonte

Of the 35 delegates in this year’s Binibining Pilipinas search, it was Baguio delegate, Gwendoline Meliz Soriano, who I consider the most accomplished and, thus, the strongest of the frontrunners.

She started her pageant journey in 2017 with the Miss Magic pageant. This was followed by the Limgas na Pangasinan in 2019, and after the pandemic with the Miss Baguio and Miss Universe Philippines contests.

Unbeknown to many, she wanted to join the Binibining Pilipinas edition of 2022. However, the timing wasn’t right for her then. That’s why she considers this victory, as Binibining Pilipinas Interbational 2026, truly meant for her.

Gwen attended three years of college education with the St. Louis University before moving to the Trinity University of Asia where she completed her BA Communications in 2020, the year of the global pandemic. She finished her OJT requirements with the ABS-CBN studios in Baguio.

In her final onstage interview, Gwen intimated that she aims to be an aspirational leader – someone that other girls would hope to become. It is also something she’d like to leave as her legacy.

This 27-year-old 5’5” beauty has a full year to prepare for her Miss International journey in 2027. She hopes to be the country’s 8^th Miss International titleholder; confident that Binibining Pilipinas 2025 Katrina Anne Johnson will win the crown in November.
