Kamal Jain debates Question 3 to Rollback the Massachusetts Sales Tax to 3%, creating tens of thousands of productive, private-sector jobs, invigorating our communities and reducing waste, overspending, fraud and corruption in government.  Question 3 has been funded 100% by individuals and small business owners.

Opposing Kamal is Steve Crawford, representing the 99% public-sector union funded, vote no group.  They have had a single $50 individual contribution and the rest of their nearly $5 MILLION in funding has come from unions who profit at the expense of the taxpayers.

Kamal appeared on the WGBH program “Greater Boston” hosted by Emily Rooney alongside the mayors of Somerville and Newton.

Dear Tea Party Leaders and Patriots,

As you know, I am facing a primary election next Tuesday, September 14th. I am writing to ask for your help.

Unlike some candidates, who “discovered” the Tea Party this year, and only recently realized the power you hold in your votes, I have been an active Tea Partier since 2007. My fellow Tea Party patriots and I organized the first Boston Tea Parties at Faneuil Hall in 2007 and 2008, bringing Rand Paul to Boston. I spoke at six Tea Party rallies, and the 2009 Audit the Fed rally, all before I began my campaign.

Since my campaign began in October, I have spoken at over 29 Tea Party meetings and rallies, and attended even more. I have given out almost 5,000 copies of the pocket Constitution, and I carry one with me every day. That one little book guides everything I believe in about how our country, and our state, should be run.

My message of Total Transparency speaks to the heart of the Tea Party’s interest in fiscal conservatism. Yes, we want the government to spend our money more responsibly, and to spend less of it, but how can we hold them accountable if we can’t see exactly how they’re spending it? When I am Auditor, you will be able to see every dollar and every dime of state spending online for free. That’s Total Transparency.

Many of the other Auditor candidates have picked up the idea of transparency and started using it as a buzzword. I am the only candidate who has defined what Total Transparency is, and who has pledged to provide it directly to the people.

In January, the Massachusetts Tea Parties impressed the nation with the new Massachusetts Miracle you brought about in the special election. You changed the political landscape in our state. You proved that you were already a force to be reckoned with.

I have spoken with hundreds of you since then, and I know how much your local Tea Parties have grown this year. You are stronger now than you have ever been. This week, you have in your hands the opportunity to affect real change in Massachusetts. The chance to give yourselves access to the tools you need to fight back against our state’s excessive spending.

I ask for your help, and for your vote on September 14th.   The Republican establishment in Massachusetts picked one of their own to back for Auditor. The big-government friendly newspapers, the Globe and the Herald, jumped right up to endorse my well-financed opponent.

All year, I’ve been running a grassroots campaign, making the most effective use of every dollar we’ve raised and campaigning in every corner of the state. Many of you have already been a part of my campaign, and I thank you for that. My support comes from patriots like you, not Beacon Hill insiders. I’ve been endorsed by Congressman Ron Paul, Dr. Rand Paul, and the Republican Liberty Caucus.

Don’t be fooled when the Republican leadership tells you that you need one more expert to go to Beacon Hill, peek behind the curtain and tell you what’s going on. You are smart enough to look at the numbers yourself, to see with your own eyes exactly how the politicians are spending your money. I am the only candidate who respects your intelligence enough to tear down the curtain, to open the books and give you direct access.

In this final week before the election, please help elect one of your own as State Auditor. Talk to your friends and family and tell them that only Kamal Jain will let you see every detail of state spending. Help us hold signs this weekend and on Primary Day Tuesday. And most importantly, please vote Kamal Jain for Auditor on Tuesday, September 14th.

Open Letter from Kamal Jain to Massachusetts Tea Party Patriots (PDF version)

Did you know that government auditing and financial auditing are completely different? Some candidates may let you think that it’s all the same, but the experts will tell you otherwise.

The truth is that there are many different kinds of auditors, each with their own specialty.

What Kind of Auditor?
If you walked into your local high school and asked for a job as a teacher, their first question would be: What kind of teacher? Are you an English teacher or a Math teacher? A History teacher or a Shop teacher? Just as teachers are highly specialized, so are auditors.

The Massachusetts State Auditor doesn’t do financial auditing. The State Auditor is responsible for government auditing, which is altogether different.

Government Auditing
So what is government auditing? Government auditing is mainly about performance and compliance auditing. The State Auditor’s Office audits all state government agencies, vendors and contractors.

In Massachusetts, the State Auditor is the chief executive of a 300-person department. There are already 200 auditors in the State Auditor’s office. We don’t need one more auditor. We need a strong leader as our next State Auditor.

An Executive Leader
We need a State Auditor with proven executive leadership skills. One with a vision and a plan to bring Total Transparency and Actual Accountability to the people of our great state. We need a State Auditor with business acumen and a penchant for efficiency.

I am the only Auditor candidate that fits the bill. I am the only candidate focused on Total Transparency and Actual Accountability. The only candidate to define transparency and present a plan for delivering it. No other candidate for State Auditor, from either party, has these credentials. None of them have a specific plan for Total Transparency.
