Enable Auto Login - Windows XP

Below are the procedure for XP Auto login :

Start -> Run type regedit then click OK

Locate the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

In Right Side Pane :

Double-click on DefaultUserName then type your user name as value and click OK
Double-click on DefaultPassword then type your password as value and click OK

If there is no entry like DefaultPassword, then create it using the following steps:

Rightclick and select New, and then select String Value
Type DefaultPassword as value name and Press OK
Double click on newly created entry and type your password there as value

If DefaultPassword string is not specified then Windows XP automatically changes the value of AutoAdminLogon key from 1 (true) to 0 (false) to turn off AutoAdminLogon facility.

Double-click on AutoAdminLogon entry then type 1 as value and Press OK

If there is no entry like AutoAdminLogon, then create it using the following steps:

Rightclick and select New, and then select String Value
Type AutoAdminLogon as value name, and then Press OK
Double Click the newly created key and type 1 as value

Close Registry Editor

Restart your PC, now your XP can log in Automatically.

Disable the right click functionality on the desktop

Very useful particularly for home users who want to protect their system default settings against unwanted changes that other users can make. For example changes in system desktop appearance, themes, and screen saver as well as other display settings. Using registry editor, you can disable the right click functionality on desktop to access the "Display Properties" dialog box and this will also prevent users to access windows explorer.

Follow the given steps to disable the right click functionality on desktop:

To use this feature, you will need to be logged into your computer with administrative rights.

Click Start button and type regedit in Run option then press Enter for next.

Here locate the location to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Here in right side panel, right click to create a new DWORD value with the name NoViewContextMenu (it is case sensitive), then assign number 1 in value data box.

Now close the registry editor and restart your computer after any changes to go into effect.
But next time, if you want to enable right click functionality on desktop then simply change the value of data box or delete the NoViewContextMenu DWORD item.

Disable right-click menu and ability to change item order in Start menu

Normally, users can reorder start menu as well as its sub-menu items by dragging and dropping the item. They can display context menus by right-clicking a start menu item. Applying this registry setting can prevent users from using the drag-and-drop method to reorder items on the start menu. Also, it removes context menus from the start menu. For this, go to start > run, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a dword value nochangestartmenu, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify the value to 1 which can disable context menu and item reordering from start menu. However, if you want to enable the options back, change the value data to 0 or delete the value.

Description:
Window provides with the option to look for a computer if you are a part of the network. Search can be carried out on computer name, and with every search a list, as drop-down information, is shown depicting the names on which the previous searches were conducted. With this setting you can clear this most recently used search list. For this, go to start > run menu, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. When in findcomputermru folder, select all the values in the right-pane and press delete. It will delete the list of all searches conducted from find dialog box. The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

If you open the context menu of a file (right click on it) while holding the shift key, then you can see the new menu item "pin to start menu". This can be seen in the start menu tab when you open start > settings > taskbar and start menu. But, this setting can remove the start menu option from the dialog, leaving only classic start menu display. For this, go to start > run, enter regedit and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a dword value nosimplestartmenu, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify the value to 1 which removes the start menu from the dialog. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to 0. The changes will take effect after a restart or logoff. Note: this feature works on internet explorer version 5 and above.

This tutorial is about how to hide all system tray icons using registry. It’s working perfect in XP and Windows Vista. In the next blog post I’ll show you how to hide only specific icons.
1. Open Start Menu >> Run, type regedit and press Enter

2. Go to the following path

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

3. Create a DWORD value by right clicking the right pane and click new, then DWORD value

4. Name the key as NoTrayItemsDisplay

5. Double click the key after creation and set the value as 1

6. Close registry and restart your computer in order for the settings to take into effect.
