Cheongsam Facts （旗袍的事實）

FACTS: The current Cheongsam(qipao) that we know nowadays only appear in the early 1920's. It is a modified version of Manchurian women garb that was modified to cater the need of GROs in nightclubs and brothels in Shanghai.

Conclusion: Modern cheongsam is not Chinese nor Manchurian traditional costume.

事實:我們現今所知的旗袍其實起源之1920年代的上海夜店和妓院。爲了拉攏顧客與嫖客的需要，在夜店以及妓院的小姐們就把原本的滿族婦女傳統的旗袍西化以及性感化，從此現代旗袍就誕生了！

結論：傳下來不一定是正統，失傳未必是不正統。傳統要看哪一代，有空去搜索一下現代旗袍的由來，它不是華人民族服裝，也不能算是滿人民族服裝。

Did you see anything? YES!! No more cheongsam or samfu for Chinese. GREAT! Finally ad producer put an effort in knowing that cheongsam isn't Chinese traditional costume. The true Chinese traditional costume is Hanfu. Kudos to them :D

Day 10 of Lunar New Year, the world first grand (true and proper) Chinese Fest after 360 years of forceful disappearance was finally back and this grand feast was held in Palace Of The Golden Horses, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This dinner strictly follows the Rites of Zhou（周制禮）and through this it has has brought out the essence in Chinese culture & etiquette which are respect, courtesy & manners. In my view, this event is a success and also another milestone in restoring Hanfu & also Chinese rites & etiquette for Hanfu Movement in Malaysia. Good job to everyone in the movement :D

華人文化基本中的基本是什麽？

大家可知華人文化的最基本是什麽嗎？難道是琴棋書畫？難道是民間風俗？

其實，華人最基本的文化是「華夏」。孔子，孟子，老子還沒出現時早已存在。爲何我們叫　‘華人’？這也是因爲華夏。華人只是華夏人的簡稱，而大家可懂華夏是什麽嗎？

這可從《左傳•定公十年》和《尚書正義》裏得到解釋。《尚書正義》註“華夏”：“冕服華章曰華，大國曰夏。” 而《左傳•定公十年》疏雲：“中國有禮儀之大，故稱夏；有章服之美，謂之華。” 所以，華夏裏的「華」和「夏」實際上是指華人的衣服和華人的禮。就到此，有些人會問，此服爲何服，此禮爲何禮？爲何是華夏為華人文化基本中的基本？

華人的衣服其實指的是衣裳（華）而華人的禮其實指的是禮樂（夏）。為和作爲華人文化的基本中的基本？我們從衣裳「華」開始講。《易經》中有一句話：“黃帝堯舜垂衣裳而天下治”。這一句試圖解釋黃帝堯舜“垂衣裳”而達到“天下治”的原因。原始人本不穿衣，黃帝時部落、部落同盟的形成，要求在人群中區分管理者與被管理者，即官與民。於是人們發明衣裳，從而結束了散亂無秩的狀態。這就是“黃帝堯舜垂衣裳而天下治”的含義。簡單而言，衣裳是象徵。

那麽，衣裳是什麽？衣裳就是漢服而他們有個大名就是華夏衣冠。所以，我們的傳統服飾是漢服。漢服不是指“漢朝服飾”，而是“漢民族的民族服飾”。那麽漢族是什麽？其實漢族就是華族，而此名是華族的另一個名稱。就因爲如此所以華語也稱漢語，華語字也稱漢字。

現在我們就談談「夏」。「夏」乃禮樂而“垂衣裳”之後，發生了周公制禮作樂。何謂禮樂？禮樂是規矩，在不同場合，不同身份的人，不但禮儀有別，所用的音樂也不同。所以華人禮樂其實很博大精深。

「華」與「夏」爲何那麽重要？爲何是基本中的基本？這是因爲「華」是個民族的象徵如同一個國家軍隊的軍服而「夏」是個民族的規矩如同軍隊裏的軍法。如果各國軍隊無軍服，那麽就會很亂，因爲分不清軍官和士兵，敵與我也分不清，天下必亂。還有，如果我們連自家衣裳都不認了反而跑去穿他人衣服還當成自家的，就代表這個民族已抛開自己的外表，放棄自己的身份，此民族必亡，那就好像一個國家的軍隊再也不穿自國軍裝反而穿起他國軍裝一樣，就代表此國已亡。所以，一旦捨棄自己民族的身份，規矩也不必跟了而漸漸的「夏」也就會消失。

到此又有人會問，華人深受孔子儒家思想影響幾千年，可否算是華人文化基本中的基本？若否，那又爲何？很簡單，儒家只是諸子百家衆多學説中其中一家。若是儒家是華夏文化的基本中的基本那麽法家，道家和其他學説是什麽？就好像軍隊裏，個個士兵都有自己的理念，哲學，價值觀和看法。若隨便拿一個人或軍隊裏其中一個士兵的哲學和理念壓在其他士兵身上，不過多久必會發生兵變。所以，要維持擁有那麽多不一樣想法的軍隊不兵變，必須要有個個士兵都認同的東西而這個當然是軍法和軍服。同樣的，華夏人以前的社會是由王，士，民組成而能讓大家都認同以及沒法挑戰只有「華」與「夏」而不是什麽諸子百家學説。也不要忘了，華夏文明有5000年曆史而儒學和其他諸子百家學説也只不過有大概3000多年的歷史，所以儒學何談得起為華人文化基本中的基本。

「華」和「夏」很重要，就因「華」和「夏」是我們都認同的東西，就因「華」和「夏」是我們華人的根而在當今「華」和「夏」已到了膛目不識先王法服的地步了，我和我的同袍才做起了漢服復興運動。我們做漢服復興運動就是要復興大家都認同的東西，用漢服找回華夏禮儀而從此達成復興華夏之意。所以，全球的漢服復運動都有個共同的理念那就是，“華夏復興，衣冠先行！”。

評論：字眼的選擇不適當，會讓人誤會我們是在玩復古而不是真的想要復興華夏。強烈強調！漢服非古装，這和稱一個語言為古語一样，會讓人以為你在說那些已經没有活人在日常生活中使用的語言。漢服是華人的傳統服飾，此服飾可穿來過節赴宴上班上學上街購物，不是什麽古装！

古裝此名號是滿清政府在當年欺壓華人時挂上去的。目的在於要讓華人對自己的另一半的文化產生陌生與遙遠感，最終達成讓華人忘記自己的華夏文化裏的華。華夏裏的華代表著漢服，華夏裏的夏代表著禮儀。兩者缺一，次文化就等同死了一樣。沒了文化，我們華人還是一個民族嗎？

With the collaboration between MMU Melaka & the state government of Melaka, a state event dinner called Muhibbah Dinner was held in Dewan Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh, Melaka. Even though is a state dinner, the food provided is kind of little for 8 people in a table. Luckily, this event was not defined by its food but by the awesome people in their traditional clothing. It is not always everyone has the chance to wear their traditional clothing and sit together with each other in a dinner and because of this, this event is awesome.

After 300 years of absence and forceful replacement with Manchurian garb, Chinese Traditional clothing is finally back in the eyes of the world.

Right after the Mid-Autumn festival night event in UTEM, still wearing my Hanfu, I and my fellow Aikido friends went to Dataran Pahlawan's McD for yumcha session and also to celebrate Ah Tong's birthday. We had lots of fun there and the main fun is that the UNO game that we played turn us into some crazy people. LOL!

2/10/2010 UTEM Mid-Autumn Festival Night

On 2 Oct, I went to UTEM for their Mid-Autumn Festival celebration. A great event as they exhibited lots of Chinese arts, presenting to the public what is the meaning in celebrating Mid-Autumn, nice sketch comedy & also lots of fun games to be played. This event was also great as the committees has successfully brought the true Chinese traditional costume, Hanfu to the public's attention through their Hanfu exhibition & sketch comedy. Enjoyed the celebration a lot as I once again get to know new friends. Thanks Xiang Yi for your invitation, I had fun :D

23/9/2010 UKM Mid-Autumn Festival

On 23 Sept, I went up to Bangi from Melaka to participate in the Mid-Autumn celebration organised by UKM. A celebration which consist of Moon worshiping ceremony, an introduction on Chinese traditional costume (Hanfu) & carrying lantern around the campus. It was a fun trip & also an unforgettable one as this was the first time I donned on my traditional costume to celebrate a traditional festival and get to know some new friends (it was also unforgettable as this event was held on my finals. LOL!).

About Samfu/Magua (馬褂)

We all know in the picture above is a piece of clothing called Magua or Samfu but how many people will know the actual story behind this piece of clothing?

A Magua (馬褂, literally "riding jacket") is a short-sleeved, loose outer garment of Manchu origin, designed for ease to put on and take off by wearers on horseback. This clothing was the standard military uniform for the Qing Dynasty Manchu's Eight Banners soldier.

Since this is a military uniform & due to the fact that Manchu's Eight Banners soldiers had played big roll in implementing Queue and Costume Order (剃髮易服), it is considered by many that this clothing was stained with the bloods of millions Chinese.

In 1645, just right after Manchu Qing regime (滿清)* was established in China, the Qing regime enacted a law which is called the Queue and Costume Order (剃髮易服). The law on queue imposes only on Chinese and not other ethnics in China and in this law, the government required all Chinese’s male to cut their hair half bald and the rest of the hair should be turned into a queue (pigtail) in the same time, all Chinese along with other ethnics should change their clothing into Manchurian clothing. Anyone that defies the law will have to face death sentence through beheading. Basically, the Qing regime wants to forcefully force Manchurian clothing and culture (head half bald and queue) on the Chinese.

In order to protect the Chinese culture & ethnic costume from being perverted & destroyed by the new law, Chinese in the whole of China started to resist the order fiercely by taking up arms & rebel against the Manchu Qing regime. In retaliation, the Qing regime struck back with deadly force, massacring all who refused to follow the new law all around the country. This has caused lots of tragedies (plundering, kidnapping beautiful looking girl as an offer to the imperial court and rape) and genocides, one of the famous massacre is the Jiading Three Massacres with estimated death tolls in the tens (or even hundreds) of thousands.

The imposition of this order was not uniform; it took up to 10 years of martial enforcement for all of China to be brought into compliance with a death toll estimating 30millions(mostly Chinese). The purpose of the law is to let the Qing regime detects any Ming Dynasty (明朝) loyalist (considered rebel) and in the same time destroyed the pride of the Chinese in order to let the Qing regime an easy control of the Chinese so that the day to day governance will run smoothly.

Besides of being a military uniform for the Eight Banners, Magua was also a clothing that act as a status symbol for the Manchu's noble in Manchu Qing society as this piece of clothing was exclusively for the Manchu's royalty & noble families only. Due to that, for the first 100 years of the Qing regime, Chinese was prohibited from donning Magua & this applies even to the Chinese (informers, court officials, armed personnel...) that has contributed tremendously in the implementation of Queue and Costume Order.

But things started to change during the time of Kangxi Emperor. As the Manchu Qing regime wants the allegiance of the Chinese officials, they started to confer Magua as reward (similar to military decoration that is given to military personnel or units for heroism in battle or distinguished service) to those Chinese that has achieved great feat in the enforcement & implementation of the Queue and Costume Order among the Chinese populace in China during the beginning of the dynasty.

Chinese that has been conferred with Magua will don this clothing in formal occasions & they are proud of it as this proved that the Manchu Qing regime has recognised their contribution. Besides, with having Magua conferred to them, they felt that they had joined the ranks of the Manchu nobility & they believed they had became 1 of them due to the fact that Magua was exclusively an apparel for the Manchu noble, and so, for these Chinese, it is something to be proud of. This is something similar to those Chinese that feels proud & glorious for being able to wear Japanese military uniform & contribute to the course of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II.

No matter what, is a fact that Magua is a military uniform which was donned by the soldiers in the Manchu's Eight Banners Army & since the Eight Banners had played a significant role in the enforcement & implementation of the Queue and Costume Order it has definitely stained with the bloods of millions Chinese that had resisted the law. So, isn't wearing such clothing to worship one ancestor or celebrate traditional Chinese festivals is kind of insult and disrespect to the Chinese culture & their ancestor? Imagine Chinese wearing Imperial Japanese Army military uniform or Jews wearing Wehrmacht (Nazi Germany Armed Forces) uniform to commemorate Nanjing massacre & the Holocaust, do you think is acceptable? For normal thinking person, all these are unacceptable, insulting & disrespectful towards those that had suffered or fallen in those events. So, if you are Chinese, after knowing all these will you still willing to wear Magua to worship your ancestor & celebrate Chinese traditional festivals with such clothing?

我們都懂上面的圖裏的衣是馬褂/唐莊*但我們對它有多了解呢？

*此衣跟唐朝沒關係

馬褂其實是滿清八旗軍隊裏士兵的戰鬥常服也是滿清貴族的專用服。因爲是士兵的戰鬥常服所以此衣沾滿了華人的血。

馬褂站滿了3千-7千萬漢人（華人）的血而最終原因在於滿清政府當年推行“剃髮易服令”。清軍(清朝軍隊)入關後，以多爾袞爲首的满洲貴族為鞏固满洲人對中國的統治、強壓漢族的民族反抗意識和民族自尊，在顺治二年（1645年）頒佈了“剃髮易服令”。簡單而言，满清政府是要把漢族人傳統通髮飾和服装改变，強迫漢人採用满族游牧民族的髮飾、服装的奴化政策。那時漢人爲了反對滿清政府的政策而進行了英勇的抵抗。清政府为了控制情况，進行了疯狂鎮壓和残忍屠杀。這種慘不忍道的鎮壓在中國進行了十年之久而整整3千-7千萬余人犧牲。經過这番血腥的洗禮後漢人才逼不得已的穿上旗袍長衫和剃頭髮。

除此之外，在清朝的頭一百年，此衣只限於滿清的士兵與貴族，連為滿清的“剃髮易服令”而出賣族人立下大功的漢奸都不許穿此衣。但是，在康熙时期爲了拉攏漢人（華人），滿清政府就破例，給立過功的漢奸封馬褂意識獎賞。對漢奸而言，被封馬褂是件很榮耀的事。此擧就跟當年日本二次大戰，漢奸為日軍服務時，穿日軍軍服而感到驕傲是一樣的。

問題來了，爲何他們都感到那麽榮耀與驕傲呢？答案很簡單，因馬褂是滿族貴族的專利，被封馬褂就讓這些漢奸覺得他們已被滿清政府認同了，也同時讓他們覺得自己已是滿族貴族的一分子而感到無比的榮耀和自豪。

不管這麽樣，馬褂是一件沾滿了數千萬個華人祖先的血的衣而諷刺的事是華人還很驕傲的穿著此衣祭祖和過節日。想象一下，在紀念南京大屠殺的時候，有人穿當年殺害南京百姓的日軍軍服來紀念被害者，也想象一下，猶太人穿著納粹德國軍服祭拜他們的祖先，你覺得這一些行爲妥當嗎？適合嗎？對得起被害者與在這些歷史悲劇犧牲的列祖烈宗嗎？有良心與邏輯者當然是會覺得不妥儅，不適合也對不起被害者，因此你不會再紀念南京大屠殺與猶太人大屠殺的紀念日裏看到日軍二戰軍服和納粹德國軍服。若以同樣的道理來想，華人穿著馬褂過節和祭祖也是不妥儅，不合適以及不尊敬的。所以你還願意穿著馬褂來過節和祭祖嗎？

An Ilustrated History on the Rise & Fall of the Chinese Civilisation - From Ming Dynasty to Early Qing Dynasty

Excerpted form MingHuaTang (明華堂) Mr. Zhong's "An Illustrated History of China - From the Ming Dynasty to the People's Republic" (圖解中國從明初到共和國的故事), here I'm, presenting to everyone on the story of the rise & fall of Chinese civilisation. This story will begins in the final years of Yuan Dynasty & ends at the early Qing Dynasty (from year 1367 - 1645).

The purpose of me focusing more on this part is that I want to expose everyone on how during the height of Chinese civilisation during Ming dynasty, the advancement in science, technology, education, economy, military & culture has turned China into a world superpower & its eventual fall later which will lead to the demise of Chinese civilisation which still can be seen & felt among Chinese all around the world especially in the cultural aspect. Besides, being the last dynasty established by the Chinese, Ming dynasty is the last dynasty in China modern history which has the finest & the purest of the culture of the Chinese civilisation. I will try my best to translate the illustration as close as possible to the original wording which is in Chinese. No matter what, I hope everyone will enjoy what I'm presenting :D

Prelude:

The view of the Great Wall can be clearly seen in the background & just across this magnificent Great Wall, a fierce battle between two armies are ongoing. As the battle goes on, the side holding the Ming flag begins to gain an upper hand while the side which hold the Yuan Mongol flag starts to retreat, this indicate the centre of power in China once again returns to the Chinese.

Going through the mountainous range & back into the place behind the Great Wall, lies a grand & magnificent palace alongside the backdrop of serenity & tranquility ; this indicate that China under the rule of Ming dynasty, once again has a stable government & robust economy. The prosperity & stability enjoyed in China during the Ming dynasty provided a fertile ground for the development & advancement of the Chinese culture & civilisation for the next 260 years.

Cherry blossom blossomed around China once again, the beautifully blossomed flowers symbolise the "never give up" spirit of the Chinese.

Early Ming

After going through the Mongolian Yuan dynasty & years of war, China's economy & society is in a total mess. As the agriculture sector is back on track, China's economy too is recovering steadily. Society once again value the importance of education. This picture depicts the celebration for the top scorer & in this picture we can see people rush to the street to congratulate the scholar & among the crowds are parents bringing along their child to witness the parade hoping that their child too will follow the footstep of the scholar in the future. At the right side of the picture, a poor lady was being congratulated by the people around for the success of her husband. She will no longer need to suffer as her husband is now an official of the government.

The Textile Factory

The textile industry is the first industry in China Ming dynasty to rise & prosper (recorded in historical documents). In this picture, the owner of the factory is telling his wife of his great plan & ambition for the future expansion of his business.

Treasure Ship's Shipyard

This picture depicts the building of the Zheng He's (Cheng Ho) Treasure Fleet for its future voyage. At the time of Ming dynasty, China has the world most advanced maritime technology & its naval fleets are the most powerful in the world. During the reign of Yong Le, Zheng He lead a fleet of 317 ships 7 times to the Western Sea (from year 1405 - 1433) but it was terminated & all outgoing sea activities were banned at the time of Xuan De Emperor due to high maintenance of the Treasure Fleet which leads to the depletion in money of the Treasury. The lack of naval fleets in the sea has lead to the increase of pirates activity along China's sea coast.

During the reign of Jia Jing, the fight against the pirates finally ended successfully & in the same time, the government finally realised that trading with other country through sea brings profit to the country and by the time of Long Qing Emperor, the ban on maritime activities were finally lifted. For the next 100 years, China will be trading heavily from East Asia to South Asia.

Divine Engine Division

Divine Engine Division (神機營) was one of the three elite military divisions of the Ming dynasty stationed around the capital Beijing. Established during the early part of the Ming Dynasty (at the time of Yong Le Emperor), its main purpose is to research & develop new firearm weapons for the Ming dynasty Armed Forces. The Divine Engine Division also provide training in the use of firearms. During the fight against the Japanese sea pirates, Divine Engine Division provided General Qi JiGuang's army which consist of 3100 soldiers, 256 canons, 8 heavy bombardment canons; every armed divisions will be provided with 128 armed vehicles and every armed vehicles consist of 2 light canons, 4 Arquebuses & 4 rocketeers. In average, every 12 soldiers will be equipped with a canon and around 50% of the 3100 soldiers were equipped with firearms; this indicate that at the time of Ming dynasty, China has already began to revolutionised its Armed Forces which use firearm weapons as it standard weapon.

As the economy of China is moving fast, lots of business opportunities can be found in the city & people start to migrate into the city. As more & more people shift into the city, the city population expand out of the city wall. Dong Lin Academy

"The sound of the wind, the sound of the rain, the sound of students studying, is all you can hear; Family matters, national matters, world matters, all these are the matters concerned here." The phrase just now, depicts the situation in the picture. It is a depiction of Dong Lin Academy when it was still open.

During the late Ming dynasty, corruption in the government is getting worse & social divide in the society is getting bigger, this has prompted intellectuals of that time to take actions against all these problems.

In 1604, during the Wanli era, Gu Xiancheng (顧憲成, 1550-1612), a Ming Grand Secretary, along with Gao Panlong (高攀龍, 1562-1626), a scholar, restored the Dong Lin Academy (was originally built in A.D. 1111 but later fell into disuse) with the financial backing of local gentry and officials. During the Academy period of operation, philosophical seminar will be held frequently. A large seminar will be held annually while small seminar will be held monthly & both of these seminars will last for 3 days. The philosophical seminar were run by members and disciples like Gao Panlong 高攀龍, Qian Yiben 錢一本, Xue Fujiao 薛敷教, and Shi Menglin 史孟麟.

Their discussions are mainly on the rampant corruption & bad governance of the government but the main target is on the monopolisation of the tax collection on salt by the eunuchs. They also discussed on ways to improve the situation such as the abolishing the monopoly on salt tax, urged for more transparency to fight against corruption & urged on the government to develop the southeast region of China. Besides that, people from Dong Lin also advocate for freedom of expression. The discourses of the members of the Dong Lin Academy received widespread resonance among state officials and literates. Their influence on China society of that time is very deep and their active participation in politics alongside with their public discussion on current issues has given China society a chance to transform into a modern society which we are familiar today.

Ming Reinforced Korea in Imjin War

From year 20 of Wan Li era (1592) until the year 26 the same era (1598), with the sending of more than 100 000 troops, 6 years of reinforcing Korea in defence against Japanese invasion has come to an end with the Korean & Chinese claiming victory. However, the victory came at an enormous cost to the Ming government as this war nearly caused the government's treasury to run dry and also due to this war, the Ming military will not get enough fund to upgrade itself. As the consequence of this, for the next 20 years after the war, Ming military will not be able to curb the rise of the Manchu Later Jin (later renamed Qing) and the rise of Manchurian will eventually put the death nail on Ming dyansty. No matter what, this war has also brought peace to the region as the Japanese will not invade again for the next 300 years.

Peasant Uprising (1640 - 1645)

The picture depict rare natural disaster which caused China to suffer 20 years of drought which caused widespread destruction in agriculture production. Due to that, famine started to spread across China and as a result, large amount of peasants & farmers started to revolt against the government. The situation was made worst by years of bad governance & corruption which were turning from bad to worse; social divides between poor and rich too has reached the stage of no turning back and in the end the whole of China was up and against the Ming government. In the picture, Duke of Chuang, Li Zicheng, the most prominent leader in the peasant uprising was being welcomed by the farmers.

Emperor Chong Zhen Hanged Himself at JingShan Hill

In April 1644, as the peasant army led by Li Zicheng is quickly approaching Beijing, in order to not fall into the hand of the rebel, the last emperor of Ming hanged himself on a tree in JingShan Hill. He died at the age of 33. Before his death, he wrote a suicide note saying that he is not responsible for the end of Ming dynasty instead it was the misunderstanding of the ministers over him & disunity among them that caused the downfall. He also wrote that he died in shame & if the rebel got their hand on his corpse, they may tear his corpse into pieces as he wishes to use this way to apologise for the suffering of his people. It also noted in his note that, he is hoping for any just & patriotic rebel to help him execute all his ministers & generals but reminded them not to touch the normal people.

Chinese Traitor Leading the Way for the Manchu into China

In 1644, Ming's border guard, General Wu Sangui, in order to take revenge against the death of his father which was killed by Li Zicheng, decided to join force with the Manchu & open the gate of the Great Wall at ShanHai Pass to let the Manchu enter into China.

Jiangyin's Battle of Resistance Against Manchu Qing's Queue Order

This picture depicts the battle scene in Jianying & on top of the wall are the people of Jiangyin holding banner which wrote, "Head can roll, hair can't be shaved!". In 1645, the newly established Qing dynasty enacted a law requiring all Chinese to adopt the Manchu traditional hairstyle & costume, any person who disobey will face death. Due to that, the whole of China once again staged an uprising against the Qing government. In this battle of Jiangyin, in order to resist the newly enacted law, Chinese soldiers and the civilians of Jiangyin staged an uprising & fought valiantly against 24 000 Qing's troops. They hold the Manchus for 81 days, inflicting heavy casualties on them, resulting in the lost of 3 dukes, 18 generals & approximately 10 000 death of armed personnel on the Qing's side.

The battle of resistance in Jiangyin still ends with the Manchurian Qing's army winning the battle. As they broke through the city's defence, the Manchu army started to plunder the city off its valuable, killing anyone they can see, raping girls they can find & kidnapping beautiful ladies to be sent as gift to the royals & high ranking officials. All these were done to punish & retaliate against the Chinese for their disobedience & their resistance. No matter what, the ultimate motive for the Manchurian Qing government to commit such war crimes was to terrorise, subdue & force the Chinese to obey the ruling of Manchurian Qing dynasty & in the same time, made them adopt the culture & costume of the Manchurian. The purpose of them forcing the Chinese to adopt the costume, hairstyle & culture of the Manchu is to let the Qing government detects any Ming Dynasty loyalist (considered rebel) and in the same time destroyed the pride of the Chinese in order to let the Qing government an easy control of the Chinese so that the day to day governance will run smoothly.

Jiangyin is not the only place that suffered such tragedy, it happens all around China during the early Qing dynasty. Yangzhou Massacre (楊州十日, 1645 AD) & Jiading Massacre (嘉定三屠, 1645 AD) are among the famous tragedies in China history for their unimaginable cruelty & high casualties. The death toll of these two combined are 1 million. All this killing didn't end there, as the imposition of this order was not uniform; it took up to 10 years of martial enforcement for all of China to be brought into compliance with a death toll estimating 30millions(mostly Chinese).

Some people will ask, "Why didn't they comply with the government of the day?"

The answer is simple; culture is the spirit for a society, traditional clothing is part of the culture & it also acts as an identity for a society; if any part of it is missing then that society is as good as dead. That is why the Chinese during that time were willing to fight until the end because they knew, once they give up, Chinese civilisation will come to an end.

So, did the Chinese successfully defended their cultural integrity from being encroach by the Manchu? Sadly, for most part such as Chinese traditional costume, Chinese rituals, Chinese rites & Chinese etiquette were lost after the Qing dynasty was established.

Luckily in recent years, Chinese around the world start to realise the problem & since then afford to bring back the lost culture was being made extensively. It will be a matter of time for us to be able to see Chinese don on their Hanfu and bow to each other as a form of greeting.

我們其實對自己國家各种族的傳統服飾認識多少？當然，很多人肯定知道和認得出馬來人與印度人的傳統服飾。那麽華人的傳統服飾呢？多多數人看了以下圖片的服飾肯定會說那个是華人的傳統服飾。但是，事實是如此嗎？

很可惜的說，以上圖片裏的服飾並不是華人的傳統服飾。

很多人認爲華人的傳統是旗袍馬褂但其實旗袍馬褂是滿族的傳統服飾。華人真正的傳統服飾是漢服。

漢服，既華夏衣冠，中國漢族的傳統服飾，又稱爲漢装、華服。此不能與“唐装”*、“和服”相混合。其由來可追溯到三皇五帝時期一直到明代，連綿幾千年，華夏人民（漢族）一直不改服飾的基本特征，这一時期漢民族所穿的服装，被稱爲漢服。自炎黄時代黄帝垂衣裳而天下治，漢服已具基本形式，历经周朝代的规范制式，到了漢朝已全面完善並普及，漢人漢服由此得名。

*唐装是改良過的馬褂

漢服是漢民族傳承了數千年的傳統民族服装，是最能體現漢族特色的服装，每个民族都有屬於自己特色的民族服装，漢服體現了漢族的民族特色。從三皇五帝到明代的幾千年时间裏，漢民族憑藉自己的智慧，創造了絢麗多彩的漢服文化，豐富了華夏文化，發展形成了具有漢民族自己独特特色的服装體系——漢服體系。

博大精深、體系完备、有舊美麗的漢服，是中國不可多得的一大財富，是非常值得每一个炎黄子孫引以爲自豪的。客觀上的漢族人的某些過渡历史階段的穿着服飾例如漢化旗装/旗袍/馬褂等絕對不可以被稱爲作“漢服”，因爲它們與真正的漢服没有正常的演變衔接過程。漢服以其強大的生命力一直没有滅絕，直到現代漢族人信仰的道教、佛教以及一些邊遠山民，還有國内許多少數民族都還保持著漢服的特征,現代社會的一些重要祭祀、紀念活動、民俗节日等仍能看到漢服的身影。漢服的影響十分深遠，亞洲各國的部分民族如日本、朝鮮、越南、蒙古、不丹等等服飾均具有或借鑑漢服特征。

常見問題

1. 什麽是满族？
满族，原稱满洲族，之前亦稱爲满民、满人等，是中國东北的一个少數民族。旗袍馬褂就是他們的傳統服飾。

2. 什麽是漢族？
漢族是中國的主體民族。漢族人口約佔中國縂人口的百分之九十四，是世界上人口最多的民族，漢族人遍佈全中國和全世界。在中國以外的漢族稱爲華人，在《明史· 外國真腊傳》有提到：“唐人者，諸番呼華人之稱也。凡海外諸國尽然。”。簡單而言，華人是海外人士對唐人(漢人)的稱呼。所以華人，華語是等於漢人，漢语。華人=漢人

3. 漢族满族不都是華人嗎？
不可以這樣相提並論。華人是漢人的另外一个名稱(請看問题2)。如果因爲漢族满族都是中國人而把他們都归類為華人，那就是大錯特錯。就好像你說你是馬來西亚人，你要外國人把你說成馬來人嗎？其實的道理是一樣的。簡單而說，中國是國籍而漢族满族是种族名稱。

4. 我又怎樣知道我是漢人呢？

很簡單！必有漢姓*。然後，敬先祖與天地或承認華夏文化為自家文化那麽你就是漢人。

*只要你的姓氏是百家姓裏其中一姓，那你就是漢人。但如果你没找到你的姓，請放心，那並不代表你不是漢人。有些姓，比如‘冼’，雖然在百家姓里没記載但有这个姓的人也是漢人。只要你翻翻族譜你就知道你是不是漢人了。

5. 漢服不是因爲不實際而被旗袍馬褂取代嗎？
那你就錯了。漢服不是被取代而是被谋杀的。(請看問题7)

6. 每个朝代都有自己的特色，旗袍馬褂也是令一个朝代的特色，不是嗎？
說得没錯，但是从三皇五帝到明代的4000多年，漢服的基本特色(交领右任)根本没变一直到清朝时才有不尋常的突變。 (请看问题7)

7. 漢人爲何穿上旗袍馬褂？
問得好！漢人穿上旗袍馬褂的故事是一个很悲慘的故事。清軍(清朝軍隊)入關後，以多爾袞爲首的满洲貴族為鞏固满洲人對中國的統治、強壓漢族的民族反抗意識和民族自尊，在顺治二年（1645年）頒佈“剃髮令”稱：“留頭不留髮，留髮不留頭。”在發佈剃髮令的同時，還領佈了“易服令”，顺治二年（1645年）7 月9日，清廷頒佈“易服令”規定“官民既已剃髮，衣冠皆宜遵本朝之制，不从者殺無赦。”強迫各族人民改满服。这就是所謂的“剃髮易服”。簡單而言，满清政府是要把漢族人傳統髮飾和服装改变，強迫漢人採用满族游牧民族的髮飾、服装的奴化政策。想象一下，如果有一天你的政府把其他民族的文化強壓在你的身上，你會有什麽反應？當然是萬分不满而會反抗政府的舉動。同樣的事情也在當時發生，那時漢人進行了英勇的抵抗。清政府为了控制情况，進行了疯狂鎮壓和残忍屠杀，嘉定三屠就是其中一个慘劇，在那場屠杀中，大概有20萬余人被害。這種慘不忍道的鎮壓在中國進行了十年之久而整整3千萬余人犧牲。經過这番血腥的過程後漢人才逼不得已的穿上旗袍馬褂和剃頭髮。

8. 在馬來西亞穿漢服不会很热嗎？
中國是四季國家而往往那邊的夏季還比我們的热，难道夏季時，我們的祖宗都不穿衣嗎？其實热不热不是一个問题，問题在于您对自己的文化自豪嗎？如果您对自己的文化感到驕傲與自豪，那您無論什麽情况都会穿上自己的傳統服飾。就好像在馬來西亞的日本人，儅它們慶祝他們的傳統節日(eg. Bon Odori)，他們都會穿上自己的傳統服装来慶祝。所以，身为華人，您对自己的文化自豪嗎？

9. 爲什麽你們那麽賣力推廣漢服？
因爲這是我們的文化，因爲我們是華人，所以是天經地義該做的事。加上，很多華人對自己的服飾與傳統不了解，所以我們更需要加倍的努力來做宣傳与推廣。

10. 你們做那麽多到底要達成什麽？
我們做那麽多是爲了讓更多華人了解自己的服飾與文化。怎樣說我們華人的文化跟漢服是息息相關，因爲華人的文化叫做中華文化，又稱華夏文化。

在華夏文化裏面的華就是代表了漢服。在《定公十年》又說：“中國有禮儀之大，故稱夏；有章服之美，謂之華”。給華夏的解釋在《尚書正義》裏也有提到：“冕服華章曰華，大國曰夏”。從這裡我們能知道我們的祖先對自己的服飾與禮儀的重視，所以華夏文化二者不能缺一，如果缺一就不能稱華夏，我們也不能叫做華人了！我們有華人這個名稱也是因爲華夏，因我們是華夏人所以才叫華人。

所以如此，我們才要大力的推广傳播關於漢服与華夏文化的事，希望能讓個個華人知道漢服與華夏文化的事，鼓勵華人穿上漢服慶節日，激起華人對自己文化的热情，這些都是我們要達成的東西。

Hanfu is not just a piece of clothing but it contains great knowledge from the past. It also brought along the elegant in Chinese etiquette and its beautiful culture that our ancestor wants us to know.

How well do you think Malaysians know about each other’s traditional costumes? Well, most may be able to point out the traditional Malay & Indian costumes. What about traditional costumes of the Chinese then? Chances are many will refer to the following as the Chinese traditional costume:

Many would say that the Chinese traditional costumes are Qi Pao (旗袍) & Ma Gua (马褂) but are you certain that they are?
Qi Pao (the so called cheongsam) & Ma Gua (the so called samfu) are actually of Manchu/ Manchurian (滿族) origin. The true traditional costume for Chinese or to be exact, the Han is Hanfu (漢服).

Hanfu (漢服) : Literally, "the clothes of the Han". Worn by Han Chinese for over 3700 years. One of the most precious treasures of Chinese cultural inheritance and representative image of the culture, it has been lost for over 360 years since 1645.

Hanfu, short for Han Chinese Traditional Clothing (not Han Dynasty Traditional Clothing), can also be called Huafu (Hua-clothing/華服). It is not to be confused with the Tangzhuang (唐裝)* or Kimono. Its origins can be traced back to the legendary Sage Kings (三皇五帝) until the Ming Dynasty, in a continuing tradition for 4,000 years, sharing all basic traits and features in its designs.

*Tangzhuang is actually a modified version of MaGua (samfu)

A field worthy of study in itself, with complete systems of classification, Hanfu as couture of a long tradition is an essential wealth of Chinese heritage, and is worthy of pride by every Chinese descendent. The resilient vitality of Hanfu has caused it to survive unto today, appearing in Han religions such as Taoism and Buddhism, as well as dress of peripheral mountain villages and closeby minor ethnicities, and retaining those similar traits.

In modern society, we can still see some traces of Hanfu in important social rites and sacrifices, remembrances, and civic holidays. The influence of Hanfu stretches far and wide, with most ethnicities in Asia such as the Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Mongolians, Bhutanese all retain or refer to elements in Hanfu design.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. So who are the Manchus/ Manchurian(滿族)?
China has 56 ethnicities (just like how Malaysia has Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan, Iban and etc) and Manchurian is 1 of the ethnicities in China. The Manchu people (满族) are a Tungusic people who originated from Manchuria (today’s Northeastern China). They are ethnic minorities in China. Qipao (cheongsam) and Magua (samfu) are the traditional clothing for the Manchurians.

2. So who are the Han (漢人)?
Han is the ethnic majority in China, forming 94% of the population of China and Han is the biggest ethnic on Earth (in term of population). In countries outside China, Hua yu (華語) and Hua ren (華人) are used instead, actually they are the same meaning with Han yu (漢語) and Han ren (漢人) in China. In short: Hua ren (華人) = Han ren (漢人)

3. Why Han (漢) are called HuaRen (華人)?
This name was derived from the name of our culture Huaxia(華夏)*. We are the people of Huaxia(華夏人), in short HuaRen (華人) . This name was used widely throughout China history and we can see this in the Ming Analect, The True Stories of The Outside World《明史·外国真腊传》which says: “People of Tang was called Huaren by the foreigners, it was widely known in the outside world.”(“唐人者，诸番呼華人之称也。凡海外诸国尽然。”.)

4. Isn’t Manchurian Chinese too? Isn’t Han also Chinese too?
Yes, they are Chinese but it is in the sense of nationality (both are citizen of China). Just think it this way, if you are Malaysian and in the same time you are non-Malay, when you tell people outside of Malaysia that you are Malaysian, do you want them to classify you as Malay? Same theory applies here, Chinese is a nationality while Han/Manchurian is the ethnicity (just like Malaysian is your nationality Chinese is your race).

5. How do I know I’m Han?
Very easy! The simplest way is by your surname. If your surname is one of the surnames in Hundred Family Surnames (百家姓) then you are Han. If you can’t find your surname inside, don’t fret. That doesn’t mean you aren’t Han. Certain surname such Xian/Sin (冼) was not found in the list but they are still consider Han because they had been sinicised(漢化) and was integrated into ethnic Han much later in the China history (around Tang Dynasty). If you really can’t find your name in the Hundred Family Surnames then you can check through your family genealogy (family register or 族譜) to know which ethnic you belong to.

Ps: People with the surname 冼 was use above because they were used to be the aborigine (俚人) for Guangdong and Guangxi area in the past.

6. Isn’t Hanfu (漢服) no longer relevant and because of that it has been replace by Qipao (cheongsam) and Magua (samfu)?
That is not true. The demise of Hanfu is not natural. It was forcefully being replaced instead of gradual acceptance. (refer FAQ no.8)

7. Every dynasty has its own pattern, isn’t Qipao(cheongsam) and Magua (samfu) one of the pattern?
Yes, it is true that each dynasty has its own design and pattern but the basic design remains the same (refer to the Hanfu picture above) for 4700 years. It was only during Qing Dynasty that things change dramatically and unnaturally. (refer FAQ no.8)

8. How did Han end up with Manchu costume?
Good question! The story behind Han wearing Manchu costume is a very tragic one. The story begin in 1645, just right after Qing Dynasty (清朝)* was established in China, the Qing government enacted a law which is called the Queue and Costume Order (剃髮易服).

The law on queue imposes only on Chinese and not other ethnics in China and in this law, the government required all Chinese male to cut their hair half bald and the rest of the hair should be turned into a queue (pigtail) in the same time, all Chinese along with other ethnics should change their clothing into Manchurian clothing. Anyone that defies the law will have to face death sentence through beheading. Basically, the Qing government wants to forcefully force Manchurian clothing and culture (head half bald and queue) on the Chinese.

Try to imagine if your government forcefully wants you to be another ethnic either forcing that ethnic culture, language or clothing other than your own, what will you do? Obviously, for any right thinking people that take pride on their culture, the action will be resisting in all means. The same applies at that time, where the Chinese people resisted the order fiercely and started to rebel.

In retaliation, the Qing government struck back with deadly force, massacring all who refused to shave their hair all around the country. This has caused lots of tragedies (plundering, kidnapping beautiful looking girl as an offer to the imperial court and rape) and genocides, one of the famous massacre is the Jiading Three Massacres with estimated death tolls in the tens (or even hundreds) of thousands.

The imposition of this order was not uniform; it took up to 10 years of martial enforcement for all of China to be brought into compliance with a death toll estimating 30millions(mostly Chinese). The purpose of the law is to let the Qing government detects any Ming Dynasty (明朝) loyalist (considered rebel) and in the same time destroyed the pride of the Chinese in order to let the Qing government an easy control of the Han so that the day to day governance will run smoothly.

9. Isn’t it hot to wear Hanfu in Malaysia? I think it is only suitable in China as the weather there is much cooler.
No, that is not true. China is a country with 4 seasons and the summer there can be much hotter than Malaysia and if it is like what you had said, is it then the people in China in the past don’t wear any clothes during summer?

It is not the matter of hot or not hot, it is the matter whether you are proud enough of your culture or not. If you are proud you will wear it and show it to others in any circumstances, just like how the Japanese in Malaysia proudly wear their traditional costume during their traditional festival (eg. Bon Odori).

10. Why you all are doing this Hanfu thing so hard?
Is our Han culture; to spread and let people know about our culture is our job as a Chinese. Besides, since there are lots of misunderstanding and ill-knowledge towards the Chinese culture even among Chinese, it will be good to enlighten them. After all, isn’t it shameful that you take other people traditional clothing and say it is yours?

11. What is the objective that you all trying to achieve?
Our current objective is to let everyone especially the Chinese to know about their true traditional clothing and also let them get closer to Chinese culture and also be proud of it but at the end of the day, our ultimate objective is to be able to revive HuaXia.

Huaxia is the foundation for all Chinese culture. As we all know, Chinese culture is usually called ZhongHuaWenHua (中華文化) but it has another name which is called HuaXiaWenHua(華夏文化). Why Chinese culture is call HuaXia (華夏)? This is based on Year Ten of Duke Ding《定公十年》. In this book HuaXia (華夏) is annotated as: “The Central Nation has the grandeur of Rites and Rituals, hence is called Xia. It has the beauty of symbols and robes, hence called Hua.(中国有礼仪之大，故称夏；有章服之美，谓之華。)”. In another book called The Proper Definition of the Book of Documents《尚书正义》by Kong Yingda annotates Huaxia “華夏” as: “Coronals and robes, as well as glamorous symbols is called Hua. A large nation is called Xia. (冕服華章曰華，大国曰夏。)

In short, Hua(華) means the beauty of Hanfu(漢服) and Xia(夏) means the grandeur of Rites and Rituals (moral and etiquette) of China or it can also refer as another name for China. Thus, Ch culture must consist of these 2 elements which are Hanfu and moral and etiquette. If any of the 2 elements is missing then our culture will not be complete and we are not fit to call ourself as HuaRen(華人). Bringing back Hanfu = Bringing back etiquette.

Through our effort, we hope that one day we will be able to see each Chinese wear Hanfu and observe rites, rituals, ceremonies and etiquette for every important festival. This is what we wish to achieve at the end.

取之于明華堂鈡先生的大作《圖解中國從明初到共和國的故事》。在此文章裏，我只會從元末說到滿清初期（1367年 - 1645年）以傳達我想傳達的信息，那就是漢文化的興旺與滅亡的故事。希望大家會喜歡 :D

明代的衣冠服飾，人文思想，商业的繁華，在與西方交流中所表現出的“拿來主義”。。。等等

。。。從14世紀到17世紀，明代透露著中國文明近代的一種發展方向與趨勢。

更有趣的是明代的歷史，與共和國目前爲止所走過的歷程更是如此的相似。
從驅趕外族，恢復秩序，建立全國性統一政權，到收拾殘墙敗瓦，飢鴻遍野的爛攤子....

民族的恢復，文明的逐步走强....

通過明代的中國歷史展示出中國人自古不變，堅韌不屈的民族精神；

《开篇》

畫面清晰的顯示著萬里長城，兩支軍隊正在長城外激戰，

其中擧著明字旗的一方趕退了擧著元字旗的一方，暗示著中國再次回歸到中原政權；

在重重山脈，長城内，是寧靜的宮殿与莊嚴的華表，暗示著在明朝的强盛下，

中國有了一個相對穩定的環境，為未來260年間，中國的恢復，漢文化的快速發展，提供了可能。

处处開满著梅花，象徵著中國堅韌的民族精神。

《明初》

經歷了蒙古元朝以及連年的戰亂后，留下一個爛攤子，國家早已殘破不堪，处处破墻敗瓦，民不聊生；新的明政權的首要任務便是回復生産與社會秩序（有史可考）；
圖為一名官員，來到一破落的村鎮，难民一湧而上。

《發放農具與賑粮》

官員發放農具與賑粮，幫助农民恢復生產（有史可考）

《豐收》

經歷了一段時間的恢復后，農業生產逐渐恢復；
畫中，山脉上乃長城，百姓在城外務農。

《狀元高中，游街誇官》

農業的恢复后，文治社會與科舉仕途也逐漸恢復;
畫中狀元郎帽插金花，十字披紅，衣錦而至，路人有做揖祝賀者，也有心理嫉妒者;
大人都舉著自己的孩子，希望他們日後都象馬上的狀元一般;
畫的最右邊，是一衣著貧困的女子，路人紛紛向她報喜，她的夫君終於功名而歸。

《紡織場》

紡織業，是明代商品經濟形成的過程中率先興起的關鍵領域（有史可考）;
場主正向夫人暢談自己的雄心壯志。

《寳船廠》

畫為一造船廠，遠處是規模龐大的大福船;
明代海上貿易與航海事業發達，永樂年起，鄭和率領規模龐大的船隊先後七下西洋（1405年 - 1433年）;
宣德始因耗費國力，而不再下西洋;成化起鑑於東南倭患嚴重而實行海禁;
嘉靖起，抗倭取得關鍵勝利，同時意識到海貿對於提高國家收入的至關作用，
隆慶起正式取消海禁，此後百年，中國海貿始終全開，
至明末時，中國商人足跡已遍布東亞，南亞。

《神機營》

畫面為工人們在製作格式火器；前者正在製作鳥銃，遠處者正在製作佛朗機炮，暗示以下一段歷史；明初（永樂年間）明朝正式組建“神機營”，一個專門從事獨立炮兵的兵種與火器研究的部門，一直至明末，仍在軍事上持續發揮作用，推動著中國軍事武器的發展；如有載，明朝中期抗倭戰爭中，戚繼光的薊軍，車營編官兵3100餘名，佛郎機炮256門，大將軍（重型大口徑炮）8門；每車營有戰車128輛，而每輛戰車配有佛郎機炮2門，鳥銃4桿，火箭手4人，平均每12名士兵裝備一門火砲... 使用槍砲等火器的士兵已佔編制總數的50%左右；以展現出中國以及世界軍事的近代發展趨勢。

《城市的夜景》

兩位文人在樓閣上眺望城市的夜景;
市已發展至城外，各式鬧市店鋪酒樓，徹夜;
經過了恢復，直至此時，中國經濟有了新的飛躍，中華文明生機勃勃。

《東林書院》

圖為東林書院開院之時;“風聲，雨聲，讀書聲，聲聲入耳，家事，國事，天下事，事事關心。”
晚明時期，宦官擅權，倒行逆施，政治日益腐化，社會矛盾激化，
促使民間與知識分子們作出相應的反應;
明萬曆三十二年（1604年），被罷黜裡居的顧憲成，
偕弟允成，及高攀龍，安希範，劉元珍，葉茂才，史孟麟，薛敷教，錢一本等人，
重開東林書院，聚眾講學，每年一大會，每月一小會，會期各三日;
指陳時弊，裁量人物，銳意圖新，自稱“東林人”，引起朝野傾慕，
東林黨人號稱“清流”，影響著天下的輿論，對當時中國的思想屆影響極深。
東林黨人提出反對礦監稅使掠奪，減輕賦役負擔，發展東南地區經濟等主張;
還主張開放言路，實行改良等針砭時政的意見，得到當時社會的廣泛支持。
明末東林黨，复社強烈的政治參與意識和實踐活動，是中國社會向近代轉型的必要條件;
與經濟上發展與倒退的矛盾相似，晚明時期，政治上也表現為進步與腐敗的激烈鬥爭。

《抗倭援朝出征》

從萬曆二十年（1592年）開始至萬曆二十六年（1598年）
結束歷時七年抗倭援朝鮮戰爭，明朝“幾舉海內之全力”，前後用兵數十萬，
歷經戰與和的反复，最終贏得了這場戰爭的勝利。
由於此役，明朝在二十年內無力進剿後金力量，
使得女真部落日益強大，最後對明朝形成了致命的打擊;
也由於此役，打出了中日之間 300多年的和平。

《農民起義（1640年-1645年）》

圖中田地乾枯，無以為耕，饑民無以為生;
闖王李自成起義所到之處，農民紛紛響應號召;
明末政治混亂，積重難返，官僚階級腐敗無能;土地兼併嚴重，貧富差距擴大，社會矛盾激烈;
黃河流域時逢持續二十年的罕見大旱災，蝗災，飢荒，終於激發了陝西饑民的大起義。

《崇禎煤山自縊》

1644年，甲申年三月十九日辰時，明朝最後一個皇帝，
崇禎帝明思宗朱由檢，自縊於煤山，以身殉社稷，享年三十三歲;
其袖中遺書道，“朕自登極一十七年，逆賊直逼京師。
朕雖德薄匪躬，上幹天咎，然皆諸臣喪心誤我，非朕之罪。
每撫心自揣，朕非亡國之君，諸臣皆亡國之臣也。朕死無面目見二祖，列宗於地下。
今朕去衣冠，以發覆面，任賊分裂朕屍，以報天下蒼生重徵濫斂之苦。
若賊中有忠義豪傑之士，代朕將文官盡戮，武將全誅，甚勿傷朕百姓一人也。”

《漢奸引路，满清入関》

1644年，在長城山海關的明將吳三桂，爲了報復李自成的殺父之仇，放滿清軍隊入関。

《江陰抗剃髮保衛戰》城上市民揮動著“頭可斷，發決不可剃”的旗幟; 1645年，滿清頒布剃髮令後，江陰（在今江蘇）人民舉行了反清起義，堅持“頭可斷，發決不可剃”，進行反清鬥爭。滿清先後調動二十四萬軍隊攻城，江陰人民浴血奮戰，守城八十一天，擊斃清三王十八將，清軍死傷過十萬。

《江陰抗剃髮保衛戰》裏，軍民雖英勇抗敵但滿清軍隊最後還是破城而入，全城屠戮。滿清此舉動是爲了逼迫漢人屈服于滿清的統治和滿清帶來的滿州文化（剃髮綁辮子與旗袍馬褂）。

像江陰這樣的反抗在全中國都有發生過而結果都是于悲劇收場。其中的悲劇就有嘉定三屠和揚州十日而這兩都是其中最有名的大屠殺。这种慘不忍道的鎮壓在中國進行了十年之久而最保守的統計，整整3千萬余人犧牲。經過这番血腥的過程後漢人才逼不得已的放棄自己文化而穿上旗袍馬褂和剃頭髮綁辮子。

我們會問，爲何他們不乖乖服從？

這是因爲，我們祖先明白文化是一個民族的魂，傳統服飾是一個民族的魄。缺一的話，那個民族就滅亡了。所以他們才爲了保衛漢文化，爲了抗議滿清的強迫性服從滿人文化而抗爭到最後一人。

我們常說南京大屠殺日軍沒人性，很殘酷，1998年伊拉克軍隊對庫爾德人進行的屠殺是不人道，那麽滿清對漢人做的這一切不也是沒人性，殘酷和不人道嗎？

我逼你放棄你所擁有的東西，我被捕，我逼你放棄的東西，你自然而然想要找回。這個道理誰都懂而我也不例外。那麽，我想找回什麽呢？我想找的東西只有一樣那就是找回應當屬於我們華人的知產，漢文化。

歷史可以被原諒，但歷史不該被遺忘。正視歷史，才能正確的評價現在。

Absurdity MAX by STAD (Student Administration Department)!! They actually struck down my article from MMU law school newsletter and said it is spreading COMMUNISM & ANTI-GOVERNMENT sentiment. WTF!!! I was just writing facts based on legal point of view and hell damn, I support what I write with references. Is this what we want for our democracy??? Do you think by silencing positive critics, the problems we face will disappear in an instant? Come on man, positive criticism makes us grow and we learn through pain and mistakes. Is not the other way round. Wake up HUMANS!!

ps: The post right below is the article that was struck down by STAD. You can read through it and after reading it, do you think I'm spreading communism and anti-government sentiments?

Of Contract and an Old Man

At the age of 86, his only wish is to be able to go back to the country where he was born, pay respect to his parents and relatives that has passed away and be able to die in the country that he once fought for. Sadly, he was denied entry into the country by the government again and again. This old man is no other then the once feared Chin Peng, the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM).

His denial of entry is a clear breach of the agreement by the government. In the agreement sign between the CPM and Malaysia Government, there is a very clear clause that stipulate for the guarantee of return of ex-communist to the country for those who wanted to return. Why government sign an agreement when they want to deny him entry into the country?

Twenty years ago, Malaysia government made a pact to put an end to an armed conflict that was costing incalculable damage to lives and the country’s economy. The two-document deal, inked in a small hotel in Hatyai, bore the names of Malaysia’s highest-level government officials, their Thai counterparts and the leaders of the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM).

The first document, termed the “Agreement Between The Government Of Malaysia And The Communist Party Of Malaya To Terminate Hostilities” was signed by the then home affairs ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Wan Sidek Wan Abdul Rahman, chief of defence forces General Tan Sri Hashim Mohd Ali and police inspector-general (IGP) Tan Sri (now Tun) Haniff Omar. Below are the clauses that both Malaysian and the CPM have agreed upon. Please read through it carefully.

ARTICLE 1 - CESSATION OF ARMED ACTIVITIES

Upon the signing of the Agreement, the Government of Malaysia and the Communist Party of Malaya shall cease all armed activities forthwith.

ARTICLE 2 - DISBANDMENT OF ARMED UNITS, DESTRUCTION OF ARMS, AMMUNITION, EXPLOSIVES AND BOOBY-TRAPS

The Communist Party of Malaya shall disband all its armed units, destroy its arms, ammunitions, explosives and booby-traps in Malaysia and Thailand.

ARTICLE 3 - RESIDENCE IN MALAYSIA

3.1 Members of the Communist Party of Malaya and members of its disbanded armed units, who are of Malaysian origin and who wish to settle down in MALAYSIA, shall be allowed to do so in accordance with the laws of Malaysia.

3.2 Members of the Communist Party of Malaya and members of its disbanded armed units, who are not of Malaysian origin, may be allowed to settle down in MALAYSIA in accordance with the laws of MALAYSIA, if they so desire.

ARTICLE 4 - PROVISION OF ASSISTANCE BY THE MALAYSIAN AUTHORITIES

With regard to Article 3, the Malaysian authorities shall assist members of the Communist Party of Malaya and members of its disbanded armed units in order to help them to start their peaceful life afresh.

A second document, detailing the terms and conditions of the peace treaty, was signed by then deputy IGP Datuk Rahim Noor and the director of Special Branch (SB) Datuk Zulkifli Abdul Rahman on behalf of Malaysia and Chin Peng, the CPM secretary-general, and central committee comrade, Rashid Maidin, on the same day and in front of the Thai government. Provided below are the terms and condition that they had agreed upon regarding the issue of residency in Malaysia.

ITEM 5 - RESIDENCE IN MALAYSIA

5.1 Members of the CPM and members of its disbanded armed units shall be allowed to take up residence in MALAYSIA if they so desire, after they have stayed in the pre-designated places in THAILAND for a minimum period of six months.

5.2 Members of the CPM and members of its disbanded armed units, who are not of Malaysian origin, may be allowed to take up residence in MALAYSIA, if they so desire, after having stayed in the pre-designated places in THAILAND for a minimum period of six months.

5.3 Those who seek to settle down in MALAYSIA must notify the Malaysian authorities of their intention to do so not later than one year from the date of the signing of the Agreement.

5.4 With regard to Item 5.1 and 5.2, the CPM shall provide the necessary particulars to the Malaysian authorities for processing and verification. In this connection, the Government shall despatch relevant officers to deal with those cases in THAILAND.

5.5 Those who wish to settle down in MALAYSIA shall be categorised as follows:

5.5.1 Malaysian citizens

5.5.2 Non-citizen spouses and children of Malaysian citizens, and

5.5.3 Aliens

5.6 Those who are allowed to settle down in MALAYSIA shall be given identification papers upon their entry into MALAYSIA before they proceed to their respective places of residence of their choice.

5.7 Non-citizen spouses and children of those who are of Malaysian origin may be allowed to settle down in MALAYSIA in accordance with the laws of MALAYSIA if they so desire.

5.8 Those who have taken up residence of their own choice in MALAYSIA shall notify the MALAYSIAN authorities of their current addresses to facilitate disbursement of financial assistance.

5.9 Those who are allowed to settle down in MALAYSIA shall be taken into the country in small batches and any search that may be conducted shall be in a manner so as not to cause any embarrassment.

5.10 There shall be no publicity of their entry into MALAYSIA.

As you all can see from the highlighted clauses, it is clear that the ex-communist can reside in Malaysia as long they wanted to return to Malaysia. Several once notorious top leaders in CPM including Abdullah C.D., Shamsiah Fakeh and Musa Ahmad have been allowed to return home as visitors or residents. Why deny Chin Peng while the rest were given chance?

In the second document, the terms are laid out more clearly for those who want to live in Malaysia. Ex-CPM members have a one-year grace period to decide where they want to live: in Malaysia, Thailand or elsewhere and arrangements shall be made to fulfil their wishes. The Malaysian government is to supply the necessary identity cards to those who want to return; and shall replace the documents for those who lost theirs, after verification.

Chin Peng, who has since reclaimed his given birth name of Ong Boon Hua, had applied to return to Malaysia, which the IGP Haniff acknowledged in an NST report dated April 28, 1991. “Chin Peng submitted his application quite late … towards the end of the period,” the English daily quoted him saying then.

On September 9 that same year, NST reported then Special Branch director Datuk Zulkifli Abdul Rahman as saying Chin Peng’s application “was being processed” and would be given the same treatment as the rest, after announcing that the first batch of 13 ex-CPM members had returned home. The next day, IGP Haniff was reported saying Chin Peng’s application was being “studied.” In the end, the cops denied the communist leader had ever put in his application to return.

Chin Peng mooted a suit in 2005 that also failed when the Federal Court upheld two lower court judgments requiring him to produce his birth certificate to prove his citizenship claim, despite his argument that he had lost them during World War II when he left home to fight the Japanese army.

Former police chief, Datuk Rahim Noor once commented “Abdullah CD in his memoirs had gleefully admitted that he was behind the attacks on police station in west Pahang and that he was involved in the Bukit Kepong incident. Were conditions (imposed on Abdullah and Suriani) to provide documents to prove they were born (in Malaya, as Chin Peng has been told to do)?” What’s with the double standard by the authority? Datuk Rahim Noor further commented “It is unfair what they are doing to that old man (Chin Peng). As a professional, I believe that the government should keep its end of the bargain.”

The present administration led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak appears to have been swayed by sentiment to keep the former Public Enemy No. 1 from stepping foot on Malaysian soil. His deputy, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, has repeatedly echoed the misconceived view that “forgiveness” is a prerequisite to allowing the 85-year-old communist leader back. It is not. It is also not known if the present leaders have read the two documents for themselves.

Besides, if Chin Peng is certainly evil and not worth the forgiveness of the people for all the things he did during the Emergency, then why in the hell the Government went and agreed to the Peace Agreement? Certainly the power of CPM has been dwindling since the 1960s and Malaysia could have easily wiped out the remnants of the active CPM members from causing much problems. Over time, CPM would have died a natural death and the Government need not sign or fulfil any agreements.

This is the same question asked in The Sun “The government had signed the Haadyai peace accord in 1989 allowing him and his people the right to return on laying down their arms. Is the government legally right to renege on its agreement signed 20 years ago? If so doesn’t it stand to lose the trust of the international community on its readiness to honour all other forms of agreements?”

Since the government has signed an agreement, it is bound to abide to the clauses, terms and condition under the agreement. What is an agreement? Agreement is a contract if we look at the Contracts Act 1950 and since the agreement is a contract then both parties have to perform it. If another party fails to do what it suppose to do, can the other party claim in this case? I don’t think so as even the Judiciary has decided against the other party without regarding the agreement that the both part has signed. Where is the justice in this case?

We know that CPM is an illegal organisation and the government by right don’t need to sign anything with them but since the authority has deemed it fit to sign the peace agreement, although it was fully aware that the CPM had been an illegal organisation since 1948.
To quote Datuk Rahim Noor’s words, Therefore, logically, both sides must respect (the agreement). To the best of my knowledge, Chin Peng’s side has observed every (one of the) terms and conditions of the peace treaty.”

The CPM has observed the peace treaty. So (what about us?) I think the government has done well to the extent that those who came back were given allowances. They were not arrested under ISA (Internal Security Act) and one or two are even lecturers in a local university.
It is only Chin Peng (right) who has not been allowed to return. Here, let me remind you that I am (speaking as a) professional man, and (that) I refer to the peace treaty.”

If the government itself can’t even abide to the agreement that they had signed, how do you expect others, especially investor to have confidence towards our country. In the same sense, how will the international community react if Malaysia enters or negotiate other peace accords? Are we going to be known as the country that easily breaks and violates agreements due to political reasons?

If this matter never resolves properly it will be a very serious problem. To quote what Tengku Razaleigh has said ‘This casts serious doubt on the Malaysian Government’s respect for the sanctity of contracts and the rule of law.”

No matter what, the government must always keep in mind that it is bound by a treaty, even if it was signed ages ago. If it does not keep its part of the deal, it can only lead to one conclusion, which will have very far-reaching consequences on all future agreements.

Baby o baby, so fast 2 years already. Time really flies, I still remember how I know you and our courtship. It still fresh in my mind and it feel just like yesterday.

Knowing you is my greatest joy of all, having you as my baby is really my luck. I appreciate it and I'm thankful. After having you in my life, my life has added in more colour and you also brighten my world more. My life feel better with you and my troubles will always flies to some other place whenever I see you, hear you and feel you.

Besides, whatever you do for me I'm really touch and thankful because you do it all from your heart. I can feel it baby. Your little doing such as sewing I LOVE YOU on my polo-t even though you have to endure the pain of the pricking needle. You pain I felt it but your love for me I felt it more. Thanks baby. MWA!

Baby, do you know that you my precious little girl. I really love love love you. My love for you is hard to explain but all I can say, my love for you is infinite and I LOVE YOU AND I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU. Basically there is no other words in the world can describe my love you and so I still will say I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU. YOU MY LITTLE PRECIOUS BABY GIRL DARLING.
