Kanowna becomes Unforgivable

Hello Friends!

Just a quick update because we know you are all very keen to hear what Archangel Pictures has in store for you in 2012, and so are we!

One Night Only, the short film directed by Pete Gurbiel, is in the final stages of post-production and scheduled for release in March.

Strange Clouds, the short film directed by Tim Sharp, is also nearing completion. The final sound mix is scheduled for next week and the visual effects are looking great. Strange Clouds is scheduled for release later this month, so keep a look out for the trailer, online very soon.

In other news, producer, Michael Facey and writer/director, Chris Richards-Scully, have been busily working on a script for the feature film version of their short film Kanowna, titled ‘Unforgivable’.

Archangel Pictures is happy to announce that the ‘Unforgivable’ team have been invited to participate in the Feature Navigator Development Program, which is a joint initiative conducted by the local film funding agency Screenwest and the Australian Writer’s Guild (AWG).

“The script is only in its infancy and I’m very excited to be attending the Feature Navigator program. I’m sure I’ll learn how much work still needs to be done”, said Chris.

Phase One of the program will be conducted by screenwriter, Andrew Bovell (Lantana, Edge of Darkness) and will run for three days in February.

Here's the first version. - 'Western Australian goldfields, 1902, a battle weary war hero returns home determined to find his fortune, only to discover it in the most unexpected place.' Kanowna's Sound Designer, David Raines, has been nominated for a 2011 Emmy Award for his work on the TV series Burn Notice. Congratulations David, a much deserved nomination. We will be keeping our fingers crossed for him.

Colosoul Magazine recently published a review of the March Future Shorts Film Festival, held in Perth. The reviewer mentioned Kanowna in the article:

"The first film of the night was local production Kanowna, directed by Chris Richards-Scully. This was one of the most compelling films of the night, looking at race relations in the Western Australians Goldfields at the beginning of the 20th century. The film contained beautiful scenery and brilliant acting."

David Raines interview

David Raines our Sound Designer on Kanowna, recently did a little educational video for his colleagues at Radio Promo Tips.com . It is all about the sound post production process and is very educational.

"A few months ago a past colleague of mine from radio in Australia asked me to contribute some video material to a website he runs that is designed to inspire and educate the audio fraternity in radio in Australia", David said.

Angry Film Festival

Kanowna will be screening in the 9th Angry Film Festival, as part of the Australian shorts night, on Thursday March 24 at the Great Northern, 644 Rathdowne Street, Carlton. Doors open at 7:30pm and films start after dusk.
This will be the first opportunity our Melbourne based friends will be able to catch the film, in the Melbourne. So head on down!

Happy news! Kanowna has been selected in competition at the 2011 Warrambeen Film Festival. The festival presents a full day of film screenings on Saturday, March 5, 2011.
Hopefully some of the Kanowna team will be attending, so to all our friends from Geelong and Melbourne, come on down and join us for the screening. We'd love to see you there and thank you for all your support.

Kanowna's Composer, Geoffrey Russell has been nominated for a 2010 Screen Music Award, in the category of Best Music for a Short Film. The national awards are conducted by the Australian Guild of Screen Composers and recognises outstanding achievement in music for film and television. Geoff's beautiful musical score for Kanowna is wonderfully emotive and lyrical, which perfectly compliments and enhances the vision of Director, Chris Richards-Scully.

Geoff has also been nominated for Best Music for a documentary, for Wheels in Motion. The awards will be presented in November.

The Kanowna team would like to thank Geoff for his amazing work on the film and wish him the very best for the awards night. Wish we could be there with you.

Michael Facey, Producer of Kanowna, begins his Big Canberra Adventure tonight. First there will be a short flight to Sydney followed by a long drive to Canberra with Kanowna DOP Devris Hasan.

Kanowna screens with Animal Kingdom

Great news! Kanowna will be screening before the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, World Cinema Jury Prize winning film, Animal Kingdom at the Raglan Film Festival in New Zealand.

Two screening dates have been confirmed, Sunday, October 3 and to close the festival on Saturday, October 9. If you know anyone who lives in the area, tell them it's a must see combination.
