GMA Network secures primetime lead in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila

2011-10-28T11:23:00.000-07:00

Kabilang dito ang Munting Heredera, Amaya, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Iglot, 24 Oras, Time of My Life, Pepito Manaloto, at Imbestigador.

Jennylyn: I'm not a homewrecker

2011-10-28T10:15:00.000-07:00

Haha! So not true.”

Sunod na tweet ay: “It’s a beautiful day! ’Wag na natin sirain araw natin. Importante wala tayong tinatapakan at sinisirang tao at pamilya.

Make it 'doubles' this time: Ready to surviv

2011-10-28T09:54:00.000-07:00

The Philippine Star

To be fit is to carry out challenges. To outwit and outplay castaways is to survive the tribal council. To have the right allies and Lady Luck on one’s side is to win GMA 7’s Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Doubles Showdown. The ever-reliable Richard Gutierrez hosts the reality show for the second time.
The castaways know all this by heart. This is what they intend to do to endure the island’s harsh climate and dangerous terrain for 36 days. Ten pairs answered the back-to-basics call of Survivor. They are the chosen few whose eyes are set for the long haul.
“It’s like the ultimate game ever — the ultimate survival game,” says KC Montero of the reality show. “There’s no other game that competes in the level of Survivor. I’ve been watching Survivor in its past 22 seasons in the States. I watched last year’s (Survivor Philippines) edition. I didn’t think twice (of joining).”

“I’m after the experience and I want to know how much patience I have,” shares Geneva Cruz. “Everybody wants to win. I want to win, too.”
The former couple-turned-best buddies will bank on their competitiveness and are bent to enhance their social skills to get through each elimination.
“I’m very competitive all through school,” recalls KC. “I’ve been an athlete. Just being part of a game and competing in it is definitely a good feeling. That’s the feeling you get when you win in a game — whether it’s an athletic accomplishment or you write an awesome story that wins something. It’s the feeling that you get. I’m in it to win and money work, too.”
This early, KC and Geneva are sizing up the competition and making a game plan for it. They are trying to figure out their possible allies among the other 18 castaways. According to KC, the pairs represent different pieces of a puzzle. “You have athletes, you boyfriend-girlfriends, you have friends, you have mother and daughter.”
Speaking of the mommy-and-daughter tandem, Maria Isabel Lopez and Mara Yokohama are set to abandon temporarily the amenities of modern living and embrace the bare-essential experience of the island life. They will prove that their age gap is an asset rather than a liability. Their loyalty will seal their fate on the island.
“I told Mara that I have the wisdom,” says Maria Isabel of her strengths. “I have the faith for my age. I know I’m physically fit. (The younger castaways) have the youth. I’m a junior citizen. I’m a realist and I see the (whole) picture.”
“In real life, I’m really a survivor,” shares Mara, who is into surfing. “Me and my dad always go camping. This is my environment. I grew up with the sea. I’m used to it. The only difference is that we are prepared when we camp. We have cooking ware and tent. Here (in Survivor), we have to start from (scratch). We build our own shelter. I have the experience but it will be different from what I normally do.”
Survivor Philippines is an opportunity for Mara to show mom Maria Isabel her world and for Maria Isabel to support Mara’s dream.
“I’m the mom. If you become instrumental to making your daughter’s dream come true, why not?” says Maria Isabel. “This is not my dream. Survivor is not my dream. I’m already in my comfort zone. I’m happy with my life and with my art. I experienced to be in the Miss Universe. I went to Cannes filmfest. This is my daughter’s dream come true and I’m instrumental (in making it happen).”

After Mara’s persistent pleading to have a chance in joining Survivor Philippines, Maria Isabel finally gave in. She decided to decline her participation at the Toronto Film Festival for Kutchera and Chicago and Sao Paulo filmfests for Halaw and an offer to do a teleserye. Mara reasons out, “We had European trips for her festivals (before). It will happen again.Survivor only happens once in a lifetime.”
Since the chance to take part in Survivor Philippines doesn’t come every day, it’s better that a castaway has a purpose, like breaking down stereotypes, to make his island stay special.
“(We want) to get out of our comfort zones and see our limitations,” says Chuckie Dreyfuss. “(I and Isabel Granada) grew up in showbiz and we were pampered. We want to (test) our limits and see how far we can go. So we can prove that we have the ability (to survive).”
Asked about their reaction that some castaways are towering and muscled, Isabel replies, “Sabi ko, wala na bang tatangkad sa kanila? Then, that’s when we can prove if (winning) lies in the height or in the strength? We are also competitive and we have to be. Nasa tama lang yung competitiveness namin. We have to enjoy (the competition). We don’t do a certain thing just for the sake of winning. We have to enjoy it. So (televiewers) will also enjoy (watching us).”
“I can’t be confident enough to say that we will be winners,” adds Chuckie. “We have no control over (the game) conditions. It’s not even a physical game but it’s also a mental game. (Televiewers) also have to understand that whatever decision we make on the island is based on the mechanics of the game. We may or may not be deceitful. What I’m saying is, how we think on the island may not be exactly how we think in real life. In our mind, it’s still a game.”
Completing the cast are Carlo Gonzales and Arthur Solinap, Alyssa Alano and Aifha Medina, Albert “Betong” Sumaya and Maey Bautista, Stef Prescott and Gino dela Peña, Ellen Adarna and Filo Cucueco, John Odulio and Arnold Aninion, and Jackie Forster and Angelicopter Schmeing-Cruz.
Fans can now place their bet on the stronger castaways or may even predict which celebrities can withstand the plight of being a castaway. Survivor Philippines is everybody’s game. It could be a survival of the prettiest, fittest — and the luckiest. One thing is for sure: Only one castaway or a pair will emerge the Sole Survivor.

“Tropang Potchi” welcomes Lenlen Frial this Saturday

2011-10-28T09:46:00.000-07:00

The cast of GMA-7’s “Tropang Potchi” welcomes the Futbolilits star, Lenlen Frial, as their new Ka-Potchi beginning this Saturday. The tropa, consisting of Julian Trono, Sabrina Man, Miggy Jimenez, Bianca Umali and Lianne Valentino, continue their adventures and learning experiences together.

This Saturday, Sab and Julian share facts about various kinds of discs. They try playing the classic sport called Ultimate Disc and also meet a collector of vintage vinyl records, which were used before CDs and MP3 players were invented. The duo then discovers that disc jockeys or DJs still use vinyl records to create effects on their turntables.
Meanwhile, a problem sets in as Miggy invites Bianca’s friend, Joana, to the Potchi house. Miggy does not know that Bianca has been keeping grudges toward Joana and this encounter suddenly sparks a confrontation between the girls. Can the tropa help Bianca and Joana sort things out?

Kapuso Dingdong Dantes, Arnold Clavio and Jessica Soho named role models

2011-10-27T11:08:00.000-07:00

“Kasabay ng pagdiriwang ng United Nations Day at Children’s Month iginawad ng ETON International School Manila ang kauna-unahang 7 Pillars of Hope sa PICC para sa pitong natatanging indibidwal na pinili ng mga estudyante ng ETON na nakakapagbigay ng pag-asa base na rin sa ginagawa nila sa kani-kanilang larangan,” Ian Cruz reported on the same “24 Oras” episode.

The honorees were Dingdong Dantes, Arnold Clavio and Jessica Soho.

Dantes, who was honored as pillar of youth advocacy in the performing arts, was overwhelmed by the recognition.

“It goes to show na ‘yung pinaghihirapan naitn sa TV, eh, may pinupuntahan talaga and I hope that ‘yung napi-pick up nila ay ‘yung talagang mga values na nagagamit talaga nila,” he said.

For Clavio, who was given the honor for his extraordinary contribution in public affairs, the award is something special as it was given by children.

“Mas dapat, eh, maging handa tayo dahil nanonood talaga ‘yung mga bata, eh. Kung kinikilala tayo, medyo bawat bibitawan nating salita ay dapat maging inspirasyon nila at maging gabay nila kung ano ‘yung pangarap nila sa buhay,” he said.

“I value everything that you could say because sabi nila pagka bata raw ang namili sa ‘yo totoo ‘yon kasi galing sa puso nila. Thank you and it’s an honor for me and I also recognize that it’s a big responsibility to be worthy of their vote and of their trust,” Soho, pillar of hope in broadcast journalism, said as she personally received her ETON award inside the campus.

Jacquelin Marzan Tolentino, president of ETON International School, explained the 7 Pillar of Hope award.

“What we did now is to look for heroes in the Philippines who made a difference in the life of children,” she said.

Despite the rifts she’s had with a number of big names in showbiz, Heart Evangelista has apparently put negativity behind her and is open to have a fresh start with them.

"Ako, I'm really, really okay with everyone. Wala akong problema sa kahit kanino. If they're okay, I'm okay. I'll always be okay,” said Heart during her contract signing as the newest Viva Films artist last Oct. 24, as reported by PEP.

Although she didn’t mention their names, Heart stressed, "The moment it was happening, out na rin siya. So, niri-reject ng body ko [‘yung negativity]. So, it was over.”

She added that if she crosses paths with those she has had a misunderstanding, she’s willing to say hi---that is, if they’re also open for reconciliation.

Recall that Heart’s relationship with her estranged manager Annabelle Rama ended on a sour note after the former did not renew her contract with the latter, a move which is alleged to have been initiated by the actress’ mom, Cecile Ongpauco, who also manages her career.

Another controversy that Heart got involved in was her happy-turned-sordid working relationship with Marian Rivera, one of her co-stars in the “Temptation Island” remake, who allegedly got irate after learning that the former would be working with the latter’s boyfriend, Dingdong Dantes.

Marian, meanwhile, had said beforehand that all was well between her and Heart until the infamous “airport incident” wherein Heart’s mother allegedly told her stay away from her daughter.

Interestingly, Heart’s next project with the Kapuso network, “Legacy,” would reunite her with her other “Temptation Island” co-stars and real-life friends, Lovi Poe and Solenn Heussaff, who both were inadvertently dragged into the Heart-Marian brouhaha.

"It never changed. Lovi and I had a great relationship. Si Solenn... we're all good. It's exciting to work with people na nakatrabaho mo dati, mga kaibigan mo pa," said Heart.

“Legacy” would also mark Heart’s reunion with Geoff Eigenmann, her leading man in the 2004 Kapamilya drama series, “Hiram.”

“...para makasama mo ‘yung nakatrabaho mo na dati, who you used to work with for a very long time... marami rin kaming nagawa together… and now, nakatrabaho ko siya ulit so it’s nice because I’m comfortable,” said Heart in an interview on “Balitanghali” last Sept. 30.

Fans of the love team apparently got a taste of their reunion with Heart and Geoff’s stint on “Spooky Nights Presents: Sapi.”

Under Viva, Heart is set to make three movies, one of which is a suspense-thriller which she would begin shooting in January 2012, as well as a return to the recording scene.

“So super from relaxed, ito hectic ulit. It’s going to be exciting. I love to work,” Heart enthused to “Balitanghali” in its Oct. 25 report.

Sarah Lahbati gets lead role in GMA-7's afternoon soap Kokak

2011-10-27T10:42:00.000-07:00

PEP

"This November, Starstruck 5 Ultimate Female Survivor Sarah Lahbati topbills the drama series, Kokak, on GMA-7. Her much-awaited break brings mixed feelings of excitement and a bit of anxiety because of her fear of frogs. Ironically, playing the lead role in the new series means she will be working with frogs.

"Kokak is based on the popular comic series created by Ruben Marcelino about a frog who transforms into a beautiful woman. The comic series' movie adaptation starred by Rachel Lobangco and Gabby Concepcion became a hit in 1989.

"All smiles, Sarah shared how she broke the good news to her mom. "Sabi ko, 'Ma, tinanggal na ako sa Time Of My Life. Wala na akong show...." And when her mom asked why she was pulled out from the show, she happily told her that she is going to play the lead role in a new program.

"Sarah also expressed excitement about her first team-up with Kapuso leading man, TJ Trinidad. "Mayroon ding nerbyos kasi siyempre hindi kami magkakilala. Pero, thankful ako that we had workshops na nakatulong para mas mag-loosen up kami, na mas makilala namin yung isa't isa", added the Kokak lead star.

"Aside from acting workshops under the supervision of Mark Espinosa, Sarah also followed a strict diet to prepare for her role, which she describes as a little sexy. When she has time, she also tries to squeeze Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts into her schedule.

"Playing the lead role is a big challenge for Sarah but aside from doing drama, "the biggest challenge would be that I'll be showing more skin than the usual," explained the young actress.
"Also in the cast of Kokak are JC Tiuseco (portraying Sarah's other leading man), Jessa Zaragoza, Gary Estrada, Ms. Caridad Sanchez, Deborah Sun, Vaness Del Moral, Frencheska Farr, and Ervic Vijandre.

"The creative team of Kokak includes Creative Director Jun Lana, Headwriter Dode Cruz, Afternoon Prime Head Roy Iglesias, Creative Consultant Des Garbes-Severino, writers Mitchicko Yamamoto, Ronalyn Sales, Luningning Ribay and brainstormers Gilda Olvidado and Obet Villela. Production is supervised by: GMA VP for Drama, Lilybeth G. Rasonable; AVP for Drama, Redgie Acuña-Magno; and Program Manager Helen Rose S. Sese with Executive Producer Joy Lumboy.

"Directed by Ricky Davao, Kokak begins airing this November on GMA-7's Afternoon Prime. Ito ang Drama."

GMA-7 to buy into IP E-Game Ventures

2011-10-27T10:06:00.000-07:00

BROADCASTER GMA Network, Inc.’s unit will buy into entertainment software firm IP E-Game Ventures, Inc. for P130 million under a deal that is seen to create synergies between Internet applications and television.

GMA New Media, Inc. agreed to subscribe to the mandatory public offering of IP E-Game Ventures, which had listed by way of introduction in February 2010, both firms said in separate disclosures yesterday without specifying the price per share.

Under Philippine Stock Exchange rules, firms that do not sell shares to the public immediately are required to eventually complete the transaction at a later period.

The two firms were already partners in the joint venture X-Play Online Games, Inc., a casual games publisher.

GMA New Media will be able to sell its stake in X-Play to IP E-Game Ventures under an option agreement executed alongside the share subscription deal.

“We are proud to have [GMA New Media] join our company as a shareholder and strategic investor… The tie-up is expected to improve substantially the profitability and stability of our company,” Jaime Enrique Y. Gonzalez, president and chief executive officer, said in the statement.

“With the number of Internet users reaching 30 million this year, and our dominance in the Internet cafe space, we believe there are tremendous synergies between consumer Internet and TV,” Mr. Gonzalez said.

In the meantime, IP E-Game Ventures’ net income has ballooned to P36.295 million in the first half from P423,296 recorded in the same period last year on the back of an asset sale.

Gross profit of the firm surged 162% to P116.59 million from P44.55 million last year due to the inclusion of profits from the Netopia chain of Internet cafes, according to earlier reports..

Shares in IP E-Game Ventures closed 1.15% or P0.3 higher at P26.50 apiece yesterday. Shares in GMA Network meanwhile rose by 0.31% to P6.5 apiece yesterday.

Rhian Ramos reunites with Aljur Abrenica via Kontrabida Girl

2011-10-26T08:58:00.000-07:00

2011-10-26T08:42:00.000-07:00

Gorgy Rula

Pagkatapos pumirma ni Heart Evangelista ng kontrata sa Viva Films nu’ng kamakalawa ng hapon, nabasa namin sa kanyang Twitter account; “Good presscon, thank you Viva and to all the other reporters who came:) they were all positive:) except for one.. geez okay I moved on:)”
“Ako, I’m really, really okay with everyone. Wala akong problema sa kahit kanino. If they’re okay, I’m okay. I’m always be okay,” sagot nito sa amin.
“The moment it was happening, out na rin siya. So, niri-reject ng body ko. So, it was over,” dagdag pa niyang sagot sa tanong namin tungkol sa mga intriga at away na pinagdaanan niya.
“It never changed. Lovi and I had a great relationship. Si Solenn, we’re all good. It’s exciting to work with people na nakatrabaho mo dati, mga kaibigan mo pa,” pakli nito.
“I want people to talk about my job, not just my lovelife. Kasi being named Heart, I think it’s just a curse na yata for me. It’s all about my lovelife all the time. It’s good, it’s perfect, diyan na muna siya.
“I think relationship is like that. Wala namang nangyayari, eh. That’s life you know, especially in showbiz. But everything is good. We’re very good,” pahayag nito.

Chef Rosebud on finding love again

2011-10-24T10:44:00.000-07:00

With her mouthwatering 10-minute dishes served with a disarming smile, Rosebud Benitez easily woos hearts and taste buds on her thrice-a-daycooking show Quickfire. That’s why many are taken aback to learn that GMA News TV’s Chef Mom already has two teenagers.
“Nagugulat (ang mga tao) na I have kids na ganun na nga kalalaki,” Chef Rosebud says. “That’s because I really started very young. I got married at a very young age.”
Growing up in a broken family, Chef Rosebud would always long for a man’s love, as she admits on her recent interview on The 700 Club Asia. This led her to tie the knot early and struggle from a premature and rocky marriage.
After two kids and seven years of “trying so hard to keep it together,” the celebritychef had to call it quits.
“Ang hirap,” she says of her marriage, “kasi unang-una sa lahat, ‘yung dream ko nga eh (is) buo ‘yung pamilya ko. Tapos hindi ko naman natupad.”
If not for her very supportive family, Chef Rosebud wouldn’t have the strength to find her way back after a dismal separation, she says. She pursued her search for a genuine, serious relationship, but to no avail.
“Laging hindi ako nakukuntento… Basta parang laging may kulang,” she admits.
“I would jump from one relationship to the other, ‘yung I would meet men na parang kaunting pakita lang sa akin, akala ko na love na... Parang napagod na ako. Parang ayoko na maghanap ng love. Ayoko na talaga.”
But Chef Rosebud’s frustration compelled her to re-examine her priorities and, in the process, re-discover the most important thing that’s been missing in her life.
“Dati kasi, lagi akong naghahanap ng relationship… pero ngayon I have the best relationship na,” she happily shares. “This is the best kind of relationship that you could ever have in your life.”
What’s her best relationship that radically altered Chef Rosebud’s life? How was she released from the wounds of her failed marriage? Find out tomorrow, Oct. 26, as she guests on The 700 Club Asia, with hosts Camilla Kim-Galvez and Alex Tinsay. It airs at 11 p.m. on GMA News TV.

Pia Magalona, mabait kay Julie Anne

2011-10-24T09:51:00.000-07:00

Siguro, we’re still young and hindi pa po ako open sa kahit anong relationship.
“As long as masaya po siya.
Kasi, sabi ko nga po, I’m being professional at all times and we work professionally.
“At saka we always try our best para pakiligin ang mga fans, ganu’n.”
Nanliligaw ba sa kanya si Elmo?
“Hindi ko po alam, eh. Pero ngayon po, parang ano, we’re still getting to know each other pa naman po.
I just find them attractive, pero not to the point na talagang crush ko talaga sila. “Elmo naman is a really nice guy. He’s composed, he is really, really talented.

“Naku, dong!

2011-10-24T08:28:00.000-07:00

Gorgy Rula

“Suwerte ko I’m the original, not the other woman,” ayon kay Jinkee.
“This rumor is a distraction and a destruction. It will only slow and hurt Manny. I don’t want him to worry.
“I love my husband very much. I trust him, because he promised he will not get involved with anyone anymore, after Krista,” bahagi ng pahayag ni Jinkee hango sa interview sa kanya sa philboxing.com.
Natawa pa si Jinkee sa sinabi niyang, “I will deal with him after the fight.”
