Modern Masculine Loft Space

This loft space offered some amazing bones to work with. The exposed brick walls, big windows, and polished concrete floors gave me a great base to go from. This room was created as a set for a movie. The goal was to create a space that a professional baseball player would live in. In order to allow the space to tell the story, I needed to create a room that looked expensive, masculine, and modern. It also needed to feel somewhat “cold” to parallel the life of the main character.

Patriotic and Historic Attic Room

This masculine space was created with a patriotic vibe in mind. The use of materials and celebration of history (through art) gave us a space full of character and coziness. A built in metal bed, 2 wood feature walls, and amazing relics of the past make this a place any guy would love to spend time in.

Ida Red- Icy Window Display

This was a window display I did for clothing/gift boutique. The display was installed in the winter months and was meant to play off the idea of icicles. The installation was created with clear plastic straws.

A Christmas Snow- Theatre Set

This was a set I designed and implemented for a live theatre production. The “home” here was created for a strong, independent, single woman’s character. The challenge in theatre production is always to make sure the set stays interesting no matter if you’re on the first row or the last.

Colorful Office/Playroom Combo

For this project, the challenge was to take a small space and make it do double duty as an office and playroom. The design had to be both kid friendly and appealing to the adults in the family. I made the space feel large by using mostly neutral colors contrasted by pops of color. The space is also full of unique art and decor pieces.

Fru Fru and Frilly Set- Mother Nature’s House

The whole idea of this project was to make this space look like Mother Nature’s home. To me that meant I needed tons of plants, floral motifs, natural finishes, soft touches, feminine features, and frilly accents. The ad agency was clear on the fact that they wanted lots of pink, some sort of dining chair covers, and a collected dinnerware feel among other things. So, here’s how it turned out.

There are many things that you do for a production set that you would never do in real life- flanking a dining chair with free floating plants being one of them (see above)! J In pictures this looks a little silly, but on camera these plants don’t seem strange and they play an important role in the commercial (hopefully I can post a video of the commercial later so you can see what I mean).

When you are dressing a table for a special event remember that adding a bunch of layers will serve to add interest and create a beautiful setting. For this table setting the ad agency wanted to have vintage/collected pieces but didn’t want everything as a whole to look too old. I achieved a nice balance by pairing vintage tea cups and hankies (which I used as napkins) with plates that boasted a more comtemporary floral pattern. I also used bright colors to keep the setting from feeling too old. Adding tons of bright, yummy food also gave the set up a very fresh feel.

Anthropologie Display- Shutter Style Headboard

Some of you may think that I am just a designer and that Tim does all the building and heavy lifting. But I am proud to say that when I need to, I can wield all sorts of saws and build something from the ground up. And that was the case with this shutter headboard/wall. Of course, I would have loved to have Tim there to help me out, but my Anthro job requires a little more independence. Here’s what I designed and built!

As you can see, we used a whole bunch of shutters and some beautiful bright paint to create the look.

I have always loved how Anthro uses everyday items in mass quantities to make an incredible statement. Well, after this window and using about a billion post-it notes, I definitely feel like part of the Anthro team!I wanted this window to feel bold and organic. I also wanted their to be a feeling of movement throughout the window.
