Although KEDesigns was a little slow this past year, life for the Erickson's have been very busy. Just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who follows, encourages, prays, or supports KED! WOW! Two days ago marks the 2nd anniversary of Karey Erickson Designs and this blog site. And although I have not done a lot, I have certainly had a few small clients here and there. Nonetheless, each one is large to me and I am thankful for the talents that God has given me! Seeing that my last post was some time back, it goes without saying that I have been a bit busy (obviously not on this blog). I am hopefully back on track and working to finish up the best "baby book" ever created. I plan to have it ready for an event that I am hoping to get a booth at in late July 2010. Prayers are always appreciated! Will be sure to post some pictures of the completed project (and ready to take orders as well). You won't be able to pass up this deal!

The Autumn Season

I am happy to report my favorite time of year is fast approaching. The Autumn season and all that comes with it… A bit cooler weather, Thanksgiving, and yes Christmas! I know many of you are saying “hold on, don’t rush it,” but fact is, I have nothing to do with how fast time flies. However, I may be able to help out with holiday gifts. On to Something New!

I know it has been a while since my last post, but a majority of my free time has been taken up on a yearbook project that I was recently working on. And therefore attempting to juggle the yearbook, KE Designs, teaching, and my wife and motherly duties, all while trying to stay productive and meaningful (along with too much coffee) proved a bit challenging! However, I am happy to report that the yearbook is completed, which means as my title indicates… I can move on to something new. So, to commemorate yet another successful school year, I am working on the next sales event and should have something for you very soon. But until that time, I hope each of you have a great summer vacation with your families!

I am happy to announce that I am the proud new owner of a Canon Rebel XSi. It has been a long time coming and now that I have it, it’s almost surreal. I haven’t had much time to play with it yet, but I am looking forward to the weekend. I plan to be quite the shutterbug! If you plan to see me this weekend, watch out - I will have camera in hand and you will likely be a target (LOL)!

The Great Debate

For some time now I have been researching DSLR’s, as I will soon be in the market to purchase a new camera for my business. Nikon vs. Canon, the ongoing debate – one might as well ask Ford or Chevy. I have found in all my research it often comes right down to preference. I was initially leaning towards the Nikon, but thankfully I have family and friends who own both and they trust me enough to let me keep their cameras for a few days to “play” with them. And after all that, (drum role please)… the Canon Rebel XSi won out by far. It is much lighter in weight, and user-friendlier than the Nikon. Don’t get me wrong, both are awesome and I am looking forward to the day I can actually go and buy one! Hey, if I am lucky maybe one will fall out of the sky (or at least into my lap LOL)!

No Better Time Than the Present

A large part of our lives center around anticipation! Vacation, Christmas, sporting events, and birthdays to mention a few (of course not necessarily in this order). And I know all too well that so many of us (myself included here) almost ALWAYS bring our old faithful cameras with us to capture the moments. Now you must ask yourself, what next? Do you leave them stored in your camera, only to have a 2.5” screen, if you are lucky, to view them on? I hope the answer to that question is NO. Or are you a digital photo pack rat? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need to give me a call. There is no better time than the present to get started on a keepsake album and turn that 2.5” view into a 12x12 page layout. These treasures can be enjoyed from the comfort of your coffee table at any time and passed down for generations to come. You may even decide to put them in a frame and display them as artwork. I realize many cannot afford extras these days and therefore a hardback album may not be within your budget. But why not start one page at a time? I promise you will not be disappointed with this decision. Keep in mind; once I complete a digital scrapbook page for you, you will want more! Each time I open an album I have created, it brings a smile to my face and warms my heart, as it takes me back to the moment. Don’t delay – turn those “Kodak” moments into keepsakes today!

Digital -vs- Traditional

I started scrapbooking when Autumn was born (10 years ago) and loved it. Enjoyed going to the store to see what was new on the racks and spending way too much money. Then, in 2007 I went digital and WOW! With traditional scrapbooking, it seems as if I would purchase a pack of stickers or embellishments only for one item in the pack. Leaving lots left over to store in hopes of using on another page someday (which by the way never happened). Not too mention they would often be too light or dark, too big or small – to summarize very frustrating to say the least – tough cookies. You get what you get and don’t have a fit! But with digital embellishments, they are fun and very versatile! With the right software you have the freedom to recolor, resize, and reuse in endless ways! If you have not yet experienced this, give me a call or email me. I would love to create a page for you and help you start collecting these memories by putting them in a format you can actually share with others (and I don’t mean from a shoebox)! :)

Just a quick note to say... I hope this Christmas Season you were able to focus on Christ and the true meaning of why we celebrate the Holiday. Even more so, I hope you continue to focus on Him throughout the upcoming New Year! God continues to amaze me by bringing joy out of the midst of sorrow. Many of us are worried about the economy, or have lost loved ones during the season, and yet it would be easy enough to allow our sorrow and worry to overcome us. However, I’ve found God being born anew into my life and so many lives around me. No, God doesn’t make everything easy or happy, but He loved us so much that He chose to be born as a baby into the same difficulties each of us faces. And in love, God still chooses to be with us!

From Lead List to Opt-In List

I was reading an article the other day that was talking about “lead lists” and it so reminded me of when Eric first got into sales many years ago. Long before the Internet, sales persons were encouraged to sit down and create a list of everyone they knew. Starting of course with family and close friends, neighbors, their church, and so on… This became their list of prospects. Next, each name on the list would be contacted to market to them in hopes of a sale. Well thanks to a law called the Can Spam Act, in a nutshell it is illegal to send bulk emails without consent of the recipient. As a result, the “opt-in” list was born. So what I am trying to say is “thank you” for those who are currently following my blog. Since I am starting out small and slow, you are my greatest potential in generating customers. And although you may have missed the window of opportunity for Christmas gifts, please forward my blog to anyone who may be interested in the services I am offering. These keepsakes will provide much joy each and every time they are looked at, now and for many generations to come. Thanks again and I hope each of you have a Christ-centered Christmas!

Overcommunicating

This is one title I am not in fear of breaking... In times like these, businesses tend to communicate more often and fill your inbox with more junk mail in an attempt to get your business. But in reality, it does just the opposite and you delete those emails without even opening them. Since my post record is about once a month, I don't see this being a problem for me. However, I am hoping to finalize my zip-it account and start offering freebie designs for you to download very soon. In the meantime, I hope you and your families have a safe, happy and God-filled Thanksgiving.

Heritage Anyone?

I am in the final stages of completing my first heritage album and WOW! It has totally inspired me to get started on one for our family. The rich, warm colors only compliment the story as you turn the pages. Each page is dedicated to a family member and tells their story for generations to come. And, as most photos for a heritage album require scanning, the touch-up on these old photos brings them back to life; yet retain their antiqueness (is that a word LOL). Well now that school has been in session for a few weeks, I am finally getting into a comfortable routine and hope you are too. And wow, even though I am only part-time, boy am I busy (as if the rest of you aren't)! We are quickly approaching my favorite time of year, Autumn (hence my daughters name). I wish I could say the weather is a bit cooler, but here in Florida we have not yet experienced any "fall-like" coolness. Of course with Autumn just around the corner, I can't leave out the upcoming Christmas Holiday. Karey Erickson Designs is ready for your business! What a Weekend!

I realize it has been a while since my last post and I am sorry! I have been rather busy getting ready for the expo, which took place yesterday. I must admit that I am relieved that it is over and a bit disappointed in the turnout. The expo was more of a "family fun day" and social event for families who were associated with the group who was sponsoring the event. Nonetheless, I walked away with experience and a few more business cards in the hands of potential clients. I will continue to persevere with Karey Erickson Designs! :)

More exciting news… I am trading the boardroom for a classroom. That’s right, I am now employed as a part-time computer and art teacher at Kings Avenue Christian School. What could be more rewarding? Sharing my love of arts, crafts and computers, along with sharing the gospel of Christ and reaching out to further the Kingdom of God. It is a new journey for me, but I am truly excited for this next chapter that God is preparing me for.

You've Got Mail...

OK, you know it's official when you start getting mail in your business name. I felt like a kid in a candy shop :). It was pretty exciting! Some more fun news, I just completed a registration form to attend my very first expo. I don't have all the details yet, but I can tell you it is called the "Mothers & More Annual End of Summer EXPO" and it is scheduled for August 9th in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Did I say I am really, really excited. I have been working hard (as you can see from the times my post are generally published) at creating my business cards, product and pricing sheets, and a general flyer, which tells a little bit about the services I will be offering. Let's just say I have a bit more work ahead of me before the expo. I will keep you posted as I get more details and I hope you will come out and check out my booth. Here is a preview of my new business card, and yes I realize it matches my blog header, but that was kinda the whole idea! :)

Business License

More a reality each day. Friday I was on a mission to get my business license. Not thinking about it being a Friday, Autumn and I headed to the Tax Collector's office for what we thought would be a quick "in & out" experience. Not quite so! It could have been worse I guess - we waited about an hour (what a trooper Autumn was), but once we were called to the window we were taken care of in a matter of minutes. So yes, it is official "Karey Erickson Designs" is one step closer to a reality. Now on to my logo/branding, marketing stuff, getting samples together, and yes that first client...

Stepping Out!

Well, after 15 years of service to one company, my position was eliminated and therefore I find myself out of work. Now some people may be concerned, but it all depends on how you look at things. I believe that all things happen for a reason and this is God's way of telling me to step out of my comfort zone into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is and He's holding out His hand (yes, inspiring words from a popular Christian song). For some time I have wanted to start my own business as a digital scrapbooker, offering services for hire. Let's just say that in light of my recent situation, this is becoming a reality. I plan to begin with products such as individual pages in a variety of sizes and hard-back bound books. I also plan to design digital elements for use by digital scrapbookers who enjoy this wonderful art as a hobby of their own, so be sure to bookmark my blog because once I get started freebies will be a given:) Thanks for taking the time to read and share my blog.
