Salt and Wax is the second book from photographer Mark Leary. To get this project up and running he is asking for a pledge of £22.00. This could also give you your name in the book as a sponsor who helped get this book out there, visit his website for more info and drop him an email if you are interested.

I was stoked to get an email this week from Aussie artist Hannah Katarski who, inspired by one of my photographs, decided to paint it.

It's really beautifully done and seeing my favorite spot to surf recreated in watercolor is pretty awesome. Here's the original photograph and the new painting.

Taking our little boy to the pool for the first time yesterday… I thought we would be out of there in minutes but he' kicked around freely for well over an hour, finding his own energy and sense of something new. Stoked to see him enjoying the water so soon.

>Fistral was a poor looking onshore from the North Easterlies but on a high from Luca's exploits in the water earlier I joined the one other guy in the sea for a surprisingly fun surf in some lumpy bumpy January cold un's!

I read an interesting quote recently that "Taking pictures has been reduced to the simple act of pushing a button"
Check out the website Beach Access for more on this.

As this site itself is composed mostly of digital images I think I sit on the fence with the film vs. digital argument. I can see the pros and cons on both mediums. Personally I have a great deal of admiration for someone who can capture the magic on film and I guess it will always come down to personal preference in the end.

It's just a coincidence that I have added an Analog section to the website. All the images here are shot with a 1979 Canon AV-1 I picked up from a car boot sale. The images are all directly scanned from the negatives with no digital manipulation and thrown on here as they were found...for better or worse.

The film vs. digital and what looks better will always be a personal preference, around a month ago though still shooting digital, I decided to return more prominently to film.
I shot over the month on a Canon AV-1 with various lenses a collection of images, many of these were throwaways but these two really stood out for me and have justified my inroads back into film.
