Have you ever found yourself waiting out a rain storm with nothing pressing to do? With time on your hands, you may start playing in the puddles left by the deluge, dipping the toe of your shoe into the water and drawing simple designs on the dry part of the sidewalk. This impromptu, impermanent graffiti was the inspiration behind the delightful Rain Brush Umbrella design from Liu Hsiang-Ling.

This simple design takes an item that most of us carry on a rainy day (if we are well-prepared, anyway) and adds a writing brush-like tip to turn it into a fun toy. The umbrella can be used to draw or write with the rainwater that collects all around on a stormy day. Simply dip the silicon tip into a puddle and use the water to leave a positive message on a receptive surface while you wait for a bus or engage in some people-watching.

The idea of using a rainy day to create unexpected art is a wonderfully creative one. Refusing to give in to the common perception of rainy days as depressing, commuters and playful people could certainly brighten up the days of those around them by playing in the rain with this fun umbrella.

Bem legal a ideia do InterLock! Trata-se de uma versão das clássicas travas de segurança para bicicletas, mas com um detalhe pra lá de interessante: ela fica embutida na própria bicicleta. Na verdade a peça é um canote para selim do qual saem dois cabos que se fecham num cadeado integrado a uma das pontas. Eles são longos o suficiente para prender a bike nos mais variados locais e serve em praticamente todos os modelos de bicicleta. O projeto está arrecadando dinheiro no Kickstarter e está quase com metade do valor pretendido. Quem quiser dar uma força, clique no link após o vídeo demonstrativo do InterLock. O meu iPad é um companheiro de todas as horas e em casa ele está sempre à mão. E olha que preciso urgentemente comprar outro para não ter que disputar com os meus filhos. Cabo flexível

Tudo bem, tudo bem, o iPhone 5 não usa mais o mesmo cabo conector, mas eu, e milhões de pessoas, têm outros gagdets da Apple que não irão ser perdidos por conta disso, certo?! Por isto (e porque também existe a versão para Android) o Bobine não vai perder o seu brilho tão cedo! Semelhante aquelas luminárias portáteis que podem ser facilmente ajustadas, ele possui o corpo totalmente flexível. Isto permite uma série de possibilidades, não só na hora da recarga: suporte para leitura, apoio para fotografar/filmar, proteção contra risco e quedas, etc. Os modelos brancos são para iPhone e os pretos para Android; independente da versão, custam 30 dólares. Bicicleta de madeira

O designer Andy Martin foi convidado em 2010 pela Thonet para desenvolver um conceito de bicicleta de estrada utilizando o seu processo original de dobragem a vapor desenvolvido na década de 1930 e utilizado na fabricação de suas cadeiras. Depois de três projetos selecionados, um deles foi escolhido justamente pela simplicidade e leveza, mas que ao mesmo tempo conseguiu dar forma a uma verdadeira bike futurista. Uma série de desafios foi enfrentada para conseguir chegar ao resultado final. As curvaturas do quadro de madeira aliadas as restrições técnicas não abalaram o designer que precisou desenvolver conectores, hastes e outras peças para reforçar as áreas de tensão e garantir a segurança plena. Com rodas de fibra de carbono (traseira fixa), sem freios e banco de madeira maciça, a estilosa bicicleta estará à venda em uma edição limitadíssima. Interessado?! Então deixe reservadas as 43.000 libras que ela custará. “Amadeiradamente legaus”!

Luvas telefônicas

Sabe quando você faz aquele gesto com a mão pedindo para alguém te ligar (ou dizendo: "Eu te ligo!")?! Pois bem, imagine uma luva que faz esta brincadeira virar realidade! Sim, a Hi-Call é uma inacreditável luva com sistema Bluetooth em cujos dedos polegar e mínimo estão instalados um fone e um microfone. Assim, em dias frios você não tira as luvas, mantém seu telefone no bolso protegido e continua em contato com as pessoas. Ok, deve ser ridículo ver alguém falar desta forma, mas pode ser bastante útil em algumas ocasiões. Ela está em pré-venda por 49,99 euros no site de sua fabricante a hi-Fun. Não custa lembrar que ela é a mesma inventora da Hi-Glove clássica, que permite o uso de iPhone mesmo com as luvas. "Gestualmente legaus"!

Mesa de balanço

Adorei a ideia de fazer reuniões de trabalho como se estivesse num parquinho infantil! Afinal, é mais ou menos esta a impressão que se deve ter na inusitada Swing Table. Mais do que uma simples mesa, trata-se de um conjunto integrado com cadeiras e lustre (embora ele seja opcional) que "flutuam". Claro que ela pode ser utilizada em outros ambientes que não escritórios: imagine na sua sala de jantar uma destas e os convidados comendo, bebendo, balançando...sei não. Brincadeiras à parte a Swing Table mede 220 x 235 x 135 cm e é preciso balançar até os últimos trocados da carteira para levá-la; custa 6.895 libras (+ 485 libras com o lustre). Ou seja, completinha sai pelo equivalente a R$ 24.250,00. “Balançantemente legaus”!

Lustres de bikes

Se você apenas passar os olhos nas imagens dos lustres abaixo sem reparar nos detalhes, talvez nem note de que materiais são feitos. Pois creia; basicamente usam correntes e aros de bicicleta, além de algumas outras peças. Eles fazem parte da série exclusiva e totalmente feita à mão chamada Connect, da Facaro, criação da artista multidisciplinar Carolina Fontoura Alzaga, que desde 2007 se dedica ao tema. Cheias de estilo, as versões “bicicleteiras” não deixam nada a dever a tradicionais lustres.À venda na página da Facaro no Etsy, os preços vão de 125 dólares (o menor, mais feioso e simplesinho) a 4.200 dólares (o maior e cheio de detalhes). “Conectadamente legaus”!

A Natz foi uma descoberta super gostosa na net. Ela é tão querida e tem uma cerejinha tão fofa que dá vontade de levá-las pra casa. Então, quando ela me convidou para celebrar o leiaute novo do blog dela com um PAP feito por mim, nem pensei duas vezes.

Então preparei um DIY daqueles que a gente gosta: lindo, fácil e feito com restos de "lixo".

Quem se lembra da loja mais bonita de NYC, a Anthropologie? Pois pois, apesar de não ser muito baratinha e eu ainda não ser rica, eu tinha de sair de lá com alguma coisa, né? E trouxe lindos puxadores coloridos, tão maneiros que dão vontade de exibir pela casa, sabe?

10 segundos de sabedoria

Se a gente procura algo pra colocar na parede, que nos inspire, ou nos acalme, ou nos provoque alguma reação, esse algo bem que pode ser um poster, com aquela frase que resume tudo que você precisa ouvir todo dia. Tipo quando você precisa daquela força pra ir trabalhar. Ou quando o dia foi péssimo. Ou quando os prazos estão em cima. Ou quando tá tudo ótimo e você tem que lembrar de aproveitar...

Se não for uma frase pra motivar ou pra refletir, também pode ser pra te fazer rir. (Ou pode ser uma que faça tudo isso ao mesmo tempo).

Além de te dizer algo, os posters de frases ainda tem um monte de outras coisas pra te deixar olhando por uns minutinhos: a tipografia, as cores, a composição... Tem os escritos na velha e boa Helvetica, mas também tem aqueles retrôs, que misturam um monte de fontes, os com jeitinho de escrito a mão, os coloridos e os minimalistas... A verdade é que tem pra todos os públicos e gostos, entra com "quote poster" no Pinterest pra ver.

Estudos apontam que cresce a cada dia o número de pessoas que não aguenta mais o poster do Keep Calm e suas variações engraçadinhas, mas convenhamos: a mensagem é universal demais, ele é simples e direto e acho que isso explica todo o hype. Você pode fazer a sua variação, nem que seja só pra colocar na internet. Mas se quer comprar mesmo, a lojinha brasileira tem vários bonitinhos.

O que tá meio em falta são opções em português. Mas, correndo o risco de ser apedrejada, qual o problema do inglês? Se você entende, e gosta, se joga.
(Agora, bem que a gente tem um monte de frases e ditados brazucas que mereciam ir pra parede, né? #fikdik pros designers.)

Mas se a sua frase preferida não virou poster ainda, isso não é difícil de resolver. Você só precisa de um programa vetorial (ou de um amigo designer), e de uns minutos brincando com as opções de fontes e as cores de fundo. Imprima em uma gráfica rápida, emoldure e pronto.

Ou você pode escrever a mão, brincando de calígrafo (no Rio de Janeiro, tem cursos ótimos de caligrafia com o Cláudio Gil). Ou então - opção super bacana - você pode ir treinando num quadro negro e variando as frases conforme o seu humor. : )

Quando dobrada fica com menos de 3 cm de largura, e aberta mede 43 x 33 x 33 cm … da pra quebrar o galho, né?!?!
Funciona com carvão normal ou lenha, ou seja, nada de eletricidade … ninguém merece churrasco elétrico :P

Storage Tubs for Bathrooms with Precious Little Space

There was a time when the bathroom was seen as a rather utilitarian room, there only to serve some very mundane functions. But that identity has changed over the years, and now we see the bathroom as a place to relax and escape – even if only for a few minutes. Relaxation comes with a lot of accessories, though, and these gorgeous bathtubs with built-in storage are perfect for storing books, bubbles, and all of the other things we need for a soothing bath.

This spa tub with built-in storage shelves may be the ultimate in bathtime relaxation. The two-person tub includes backrests on either side for sitting up comfortably, as well as a row of soft charcoal-colored pillows. An integrated bookshelf offers ample space for all of your scented candles, novels and boxes of chocolates.

A surprisingly elegant bathtub from Rexa Designs seems to delicately balance on a small bookcase platform. The egg-shaped tub offers a gently curved space in which to wash away the worries of the day, while the integrated shelves give you the perfect place to store shampoos, bubbles, incense and your favorite books.

As a practical small-space solution, the Keops Evolution bathtub is a brilliant way to keep your favorite things close by. It boasts drawers for towels and washcloths, shelves for candles and bath products and a sliding door for hiding less-attractive accessories like razors and mustache bleaching kits. Integrated jets and optional backrests ensure that every bath is a serene experience.

Although it has no drawers and a relatively small amount of storage compared to some of the other tubs here, the Tub and Tray from designer Jamie Hayon is an incredibly elegant addition to any bathroom. The clean white tub is surrounded by dark wood with lovely curved legs, giving it a classical but modern aesthetic. A shelf at the foot of the tub allows just enough space for a bottle of champagne and a glass or two.

A truly beautiful creation from Swedish designer Malin Lundmark, the Library Bath is a whimsical combination of an armchair, a bookshelf and a bathtub. People who can’t stand to stop reading even long enough to get clean will appreciate being able to store a rather large selection of books on the integrated shelf for some light tub reading.

The standard oval-shaped tub has a lot of empty, wasted space beneath it. These add-on panels with tilt-out storage are the perfect DIY solution for adding some concealed storage space in the bathroom.

Another aftermarket add-on, this storage platform gives you pull-out drawers and/or cubbies in which to stash your necessary bits and bobs which which to make your bath a luxurious affair. You’ll need a rather relaxing bath after you get the bill for this magnificent fixture, though: it’s over $17K as shown.

Stunning Modern Loft Inside Victorian Westbourne Grove Church

DOS Architects have completed an intriguing renovation of the top two floors of Westbourne Grove Church, a Baptist chapel initially built in 1853. Situated in London’s Notting Hill, the interiors of the new apartment seem to defy their surroundings, showcasing a highly contemporary design. A double height space acts as the core of the loft; the church’s original arched windows were kept intact and flood this interior in natural light. Pink and purple were employed to add color to the place, dynamically contrasting the white walls. The home has a total living area of 400 square meters and a layout which ensures a high level of transparency. The two floors are connected through an interesting looking glass stairway. Combining a daring design with state of the art technology and modern finishes, it is difficult to believe this futuristic apartment is integrated in an old traditional church. We are curious to know your honest opinion regarded to the overall design of this apartment in relationship to its surrounding architecture- find this approach advisable?

The collaboration between the Institue for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) and leading multinational company in the Spanish electricity sector Endesa resulted in the construction of an innovative solar structure that will adorn the Barcelona's Marina Pier for one year. Part of the Smart City Expo, the Endesa Pavilion (also known as Solar House 2.0 ) is describes as " a testbed for informational grid technologies". Combining prefabricated technologies with perfectly adapted customization, this genius design built in just one month is software-designed, cut to dimensions and assembled into a place-specific design. Plywood wedges shape outside solar system supports and interior storage spaces, while their cantilevering features shade the interiors from gaining too much heat in the summer.

Summarizing the project, IAAC explains the modularity, versatility and functional features of the pavilion: "The project is an exercise in which a building, under the guidance of the block type of Barcelona, is adapted by adding a series of modules on its facade. These modules, which are seen as triangular pieces section, make possible for the building to optimize energy and spatial intelligence. Its size and components vary depending on the orientation and inclination of the sun, the relationship with the environment and other technical needs." Student Anna Štepánková took the idea of a wooden chair further and came up with a very intriguing design. Tamashii chair is not just an original looking piece of furniture, but also a tribute to environmental responsibility. Here is a statement from the designer: "The inspiration for a dining chair Tamashii comes from a Japanese veneer technique called Bunaco. My goal was to discover all possibilities this technique offers and apply gained knowledge in an innovative way. In my work, I put an emphasis on a handmade experimenting with a wooden material. My aim was to design a chair which would be connecting use of a traditional technique in a modern design and I wished to point out a sense of this combination. The Tamashii chair, besides other things, is a part of a concept – Buy a chair, get a tree – which is my manifestation of responsibility towards environment and a life cycle of the product". No matter what the standpoint, the chair found on Design Milk looks dynamic, yet comfortable. How do you find it?

10 Great Ways to Revamp Your Kitchenware with Less Than 50$

We are all aware that small things can make a world of difference. This is also true in the kitchen, where time spent cooking often needs to be "spiced up". One way to achieve this is to constantly reinvent the space you work in visually. You can choose to add some colorful tiles above the sink, hang an original looking pendant lamp to change the mood of the room or move some of the furniture around. But as I pointed out before, this post is about the little things. Which is why for today we gathered a few ideas on how to revamp your kitchenware. Most of the designs below are DIY projects and each costs less than $50 to implement in your home. Enjoy!

#1. Custom-written plates

We found this inspiring set of plates over at Brooklyn Limestone; the creative mind behind it envisioned a decor for Halloween, centered around the work of Edgar Allan Poe. But the idea can be taken further and used for various events. How does it work? Take a few plates, a porcelain pen and some masking tape to use as guide when writing. Then start copying the text of your choice on the rim of the plate, or doodle something connected to the event. An adhesive stencil in the middle can do wonders. The result is fantastic, wouldn't you agree?

#2. Rainbow Painted Wooden Utensils

If you have some free time on your hands and feel like adding some color into the kitchen, this idea is easy to implement. By using regular non-toxic craft paint, the wooden forks and spoons in your home can become part of a… rainbow. You can hang the partially-colored utensils on the wall or place them in a drawer-either way, they will be very easy to reach .

#3. Drawing Simple Patterns for a Modern Design

Porcelaine 150 markers can be of great help when revamping your kitchenware. In the two examples above, the drawing of two simple patterns led to a surprising looking table set. No talent required, no artistic inclination whatsoever, just a simple and clever idea which can completely turn around a dull series of plates and mugs. The set can be bought from IKEA; after drawing, baking the dishes for 35 minutes at 300 degrees is recommended to make the design permanent.

#4. Knitting Your Way Towards a Great Looking Table Set

Do you like knitting? Then check out these original tiny "clothes" which may not serve any major practical purpose (they do help with a better grip when the cup is hot, though), but look pretty as a picture. Here is a step by step tutorial on how to make your own "cup cozies". And when you are done with that, go further and envision something similar for your teapot as well.

#5. Wood Glass Canisters

Wood and glass go great together, so why not use wood in order to spice up the glass items in your kitchen? We found these canisters for sale here if you are interested, but we believe that with a little effort, the idea can be successfully implemented at home. Even if it means buying some stickers with a wooden pattern and gluing them around the surface of the jars.

#6. Eyeball Tableware

Okay, we admit this tableware set does not look too friendly, but it made us smile nevertheless. Besides, it is not for everyday use- just for those times you need to scare someone off. Like on Halloween. Seen on Martha Stewart, the Eyeball Tableware set can be easily replicated at home. All you need is eyeball clip art, clear drinking glasses and plates, a flat brush and glue.

#7. Revamping Old Trays

We found this cool and easy to implement DIY project here and thought it would be a good addition to this post. In this case the process of revamping meant wiping the tray, sanding it and taping it off with painters tape in two stages. The result is a modern looking tray with an eye-catching chevron pattern.

Cathrineholm enamel cookware stands out due to a lovely lotus pattern and bold colors. Although the Norway company closed in 1970, its products are still sought after today and some of them can be bought online here. But why not take this idea and improvise on regular plate sets? Display the resulting items near a color-contrasting wall like in the photo above for a magic visual effect.

#9. Plates as Wall Decor

If by now you got used to painting plates, here is an alternative use for them! By hanging irregular-shaped groups of plates in your kitchen or even in the living room (see example above), you get a fun wall decorations characterized by a high level of originality. Works great in a traditional or eclectic space, wouldn't you agree?

#10. Tea Pots and Mugs as Flower Pots

Our final tip for the day is adding a fresh touch to your home by making a fun transformation. Use several teapots and mugs to create great flower arrangements. Whether you choose the simple version- placing some flowers in a cool set of coffee cups, or the slightly more difficult idea- painting some mugs or teapots in vivid colors, the effect is always spectacular.

Linnéstaden is filled with spectacular apartments, some created with elegant details, other displaying exuberant design lines. Occupying 100 square meters in a building dating back to the 1900s, this cozy crib shelters beautiful residential spaces all throughout. Fine details compose a breathtaking little home, combining modern furniture and revamped original details. A new open plan kitchen is separated from the dining space by a small bright hallway. Two balconies facing one east and one west make sure you get closer views of the surroundings, then return inside to benefit from a colorful, welcoming space. In the dining room, a splendid fireplace captures all the attention, while moving on to the living space, we notice the same colorful, cheery note. The bedroom is simply magnificent! I love how the bed aligns with the terrace and regret not seeing a photo from the bed side towards the wall with photos and magazines on shelves. All in all, this is a modern little dream apartment for anyone who wants to live in Gothenburg, seen at Alvhem.

O pessoal da ZAL Creations faz os mais variados tipos de luminárias usando materiais bem diferentes dos convencionais. Entre eles, garrafas, pranchas de skate, vasos, canecas e pra mim, os mais legais: latas e garrafinhas de cerveja. Olhando as fotos você vê que não tem mistério e o efeito, dependendo do ambiente, fica bem legal. Sem falar que qualquer um que tenha certa habilidade manual e conhecimentos de elétrica, consegue fazer a sua própria luminária de teto. E o melhor: com as latinhas de suas cervejas preferidas. Para se ter uma ideia de valores, o trio Budweiser que aparece na foto sai por 265 dólares. "Enlatadamente legaus"!

12 Affordable Tricks to Originally Bring Photography into Your Home

We all appreciate meaningful stories and hang on to valuable moments in day to day life. Which is probably why we often get the urge to turn our home into a miniature photo gallery. There are many ways to achieve this tastefully, but people usually go for the classic method: buying simple photo frames and placing them around the house.And while we agree that this approach is the easiest, it is not always the solution that best highlights the photos, or the "photography corner" of the room. For today we gathered some tricks on how to creatively bring photography into your home, at a fair price. If you know any other similar ideas, please leave a comment below.

#1. The Stylish Vintage Photo Frame

We found this really absorbing idea here. Simple, witty and with a magical aesthetic effect, this original photo frame can accommodate as many of your favorite photos as you want it to. Just grab some wood strips, sand them or use some paint for color and make the photo frame using nails and staples. Once you are done, fasten twines on the empty frame and hang photos using wooden clothespins, For a special effect, print them in sepia.The cost for such a creative frame depends on the number of photos you print, but it should not exceed 30$.

#2. Recycling Jars

Need an alternative use for those jars long forgotten in the kitchen cupboards? Place some photos inside and you got yourself an innovative picture frame. For a striking effect, use some vegetable oil to completely fill the jar and add some dry flowers. This will give it a genuine vintage look. [cost: under 10$]

#3. Using Metallic Clips and a Wire

For a more elegant effect, you can consider printing black&white photos and hanging them using metallic clips on an interesting looking wire. You can do this by adding a neutral white photo canvas (in a digital processing computer program) like in the example above or by printing the photos as they come out of the camera. With minimum costs, as you can imagine. [costs: under $50]

#4. Colorful Photo Borders

This colorful arrangement comes from Martha Stuart and has a powerful visual impact. By using a strong color for each of the pictures displayed, the result is playful and elegant at the same time. You can choose a black frame for the photos or simply hang them on the wall in their colorful canvases, in order to save some money, Either way, the effect is great. [cost: under 40$ without individual glass framing]

#5. Using Ceramic Tiles

This is another affordable DIY project that we really love. You will need ceramic tiles, glue, scissors and printed photos. Use double-sided heavy-duty sticky tape squares to place the photos on the walls or your fridge. You will find step by step instructions here. The result? You will probably not want to buy photo frames again. [cost: $0.13 each tile + photo printing and glue]

#6. Hanging Photos on Strings Horizontally

This idea could be implemented in the children's room or in outdoor spaces, during various events. Use some clothespins to hang the photos or make tiny perforations with a needle through all the photos you would like exhibited. For a more powerful visual effect, use a neutral background. [costs: under 3$0]

#7. The Photo Wheel

We stumbled across the photo wheel on Pinterst and decided to feature it in this post. Aside from being a creative way of unusually displaying photos, we figured the round frame is not so difficult to improvise at home. The photos can then be added by using clips or clothespins.

#8. The Magnetic Photo Rope

This simple and interesting looking 58″ cable comes with 8 magnets you can use to attach photos, postcards, birthday cards and so on. The bottom of the cable is weighted to keep it straight, and a loop of cable at the top lets you hang the rope anywhere you want. An original and easy to use method, keeping your photos organized and originally at sight. The magnetic photo can be purchased online here. [cost: 3 strings for $28]

#9. Using Wooden Photo Boards

Here is an interesting DIY project that caught our attention. By simply using some wooden boards as support for your photos, wires, bulldog clips and hooks, you can put together an original and surprising project. The photos can be grouped in various ways and placed anywhere around the house. You can read about the step by step operation (which shouldn't take more than half a day) and get help on successfully implementing this idea here. [cost: under 50$ for 10 photos]

#10. The Corner Frame

Featured a while back on Freshome, the corner frame and angled corner frame take advantage of a wall part that is usually neglected. The frames are available for purchase online, but taking the idea and improvising at home would probably reduce the costs.

#11. The Wall Clock

For this particular idea you would need a clock kit plus 12 or 4 pictures of your choice. It is a simple and elegant idea, which also leaves room for improvising. You can also create this clock by using photo frames. You will find elaborate instructions on this cool DIY project on Photojojo.

#12. The Photo Wall

Bree Hester from the Creative Mama envisioned (and did!) this amazing photo collage, perfect for displaying in a family home. By using photoclips or thumbtacks (simple or colorful) )you can connect the photos together, opting for a small batch or a large one, like in the example above. [cost: under $50]

Kristine Bjaadal creates objects with hidden stories to tell – everyday objects with secret tales shown only under strange circumstances, such as tabletop spills or time-worn seating.

A small change making a big impact on the future is known as the butterfly effect. In this case, the accidental tipping of a glass reveals a flock of butterflies lying invisible but in wait right on your tablecloth, titled Underfull.

Or consider the inevitability of fabric wearing thin on your favorite upholstered chair – what if that almost-invariably negative process were turned into something positive, via, say, a pattern that emerges as the surface material layer gets slowly stripped away, named Underskog.

Along similar lines, but requiring less time (but perhaps some until you or your guest notices it), are these so-called Undertone dishes with out-of-sight rings of color below their raised edges. It is only when picked up – or better yet: spotted in reflection on the top of a table – that these tones become clearly visible.

A ideia não poderia ter surgido de maneira mais natural: necessidade pessoal. O designer Géza Csire mudou para um pequeno apartamento que possuía apenas um colchão no quarto. Pensando em como esconder o colchão e ao mesmo tempo ter um lugar para sentar, surgiu o conceito da paq. A poltroninha confortável 'funciona' de um jeito quase ridículo de tão simples. Você abre o zíper na parte de trás e vê que sua estrutura principal é o próprio colchão que está encaixado em um pequeno cilindro. É ele que serve de base e assento quando a paq "está" poltrona e de apoio, mesinha ou banquinho quando a paq "está" colchão. A poltrona-cama está disponível em diversas cores a um custo que varia entre 160 e 187 dólares. "Duplamente legaus"!
