Take it outside. Smoking around others releases a toxic fog of gases like carbon monixide and hydrogen cyanide. Gases that can be especially harmful to kids and babies whose bodies are still developing. Its whaling program, Greenpeace officials say, kills more than 900 minke whales and 10 fin whales each year under the guise of scientific research. Greenpeace claims that Japan hunts the whales for commercial reasons, but the organization says the consumption of whale meat in Japan is declining, and thus it believes there is no need to kill the whales.

The Greenpeace Fund promotes Greenpeace's mission through public education, grassroots lobbying and grants to other environmental organizations. Greenpeace's mission is to halt environmental destruction and to promote solutions for future generations. One of Greenpeace's unique strengths is our capacity to conduct international campaigns in countries around the world, giving us the ability to challenge environmental threats and promote change on issues that transcend national borders and require international cooperation. Our strategies include a unique combination of advocacy, lobbying, research and education and complex negotiations with corporations and in international forums.

Greenpeace is committed to defending the world's oceans and the life that depends on them by ending whaling and destructive fishing practices, and working for global marine reserves.

AARP: Medicare Part D

Medicare Part D is a federal program to subsidize the costs of prescription for Medicare beneficiaries in the United States. It was enacted as part of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 and went into effect on January 2006. In June, Cyclone Yemyin brought sweeping floods that affected two-point-five million people and killed over 300. In the wake of this disaster, UNICEF is undertaking a vaccination campaign to prevent measles from taking more innocent lives.

UNICEF, the World Health Organisation, and other partners are supporting the government in a measles campaign in the hardest hit areas of southern Pakistan. Dr. Amjad, UNICEF Health Officer on the measles campaign: "UNICEF has planned to vaccinate the children from the nine-months of the age up to the 15 years of the children. So we have planned to vaccinate about 124,000 children in the flood-affected districts, and instead of taking all the districts, we have chosen only seven districts which are badly affected by the floods." Torrential rains caught the village of Khurmastan in Balochistan province by surprise.

Yahoo: Lawrence Bender, Producer of andquot;An Inconvenient Truthandquot;

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH. Featuring Al Gore, the film is produced by Laurie David, Lawrence Bender and Scott Z. Burns. AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, offers a passionate and inspirational look at one man's fervent crusade to halt global warming's deadly progress in its tracks by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it. Two years after a historic peace agreement ended Africa's longest-running civil war, urban roads are congested with traffic and classrooms that once lacked students are now overflowing.
Outside the bustling urban areas, however, progress has been slower. The countryside is dotted with cattle camps in which communities move with their herds according to the seasons. Children who grow up in the camps are taught traditional skills like how to milk cows and fish with spears, but formal schooling has almost never been an option. The "Go to School" initiative in Southern Sudan is rebuilding the education system and aims to bring 1.6 million children to school by the end of 2007. The initiative was launched in April of last year by UNICEF and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, in conjunction with a wide range of partners.
But the lack of learning spaces in rural areas - coupled with cultural taboos on sending children, especially girls, to school - has been posing challenges for the campaign.

Stena Bulk AB: Shortage of Merchant Seamen

Despite the fact that 200 ships officers are trained every year in Sweden, more than double that number is needed to satisfy the demand, according to the Swedish merchant navy.
