The Last Time you visited a Hindu Marriage Ceremony , you saw the bride and the bridegroom circle around a fire and throw some things into the sacred fire , chat some mantras that was said by the Brahmin sitting near the sacred fire. The thaimaman ( bride’s mom’s brother) or in some rituals the father gives the bride to the groom. You were sitting and hearing all the chit chats of the attendees or a loud music may be while this goes on the stage. Then when the mangalyam thanthunanena is said , the groom ties the three knot to the bride and circles with her around the fire.

The meaning of the ritual is simple. The Couple are siva and parvathi , who respectively represent a man and a woman. They are brought together by the MAYA that rules the world. Vishnu in Tamil tradition is called MAYON or MAYANDI, which means magician. A man and a woman are attracted towards each other by this MAYA and that’s why they have relationship. This got misinterpreted over centuries as MAMA which in Indian languages including Tamil is one’s mom’s brother . In iyengar marriages it’s the father who does it , symbolizing the ‘arranged’ marriage by the parents.

The Sacred fire symbolizes the Sexual Intercourse. This is where the creator BRAHMA makes his new creation with the help of the heat that is generated by the human sexual copulation. The oil that is poured is the vaginal lubrication that is present in the vagina. This oil increases the heat and maintains the heat while brahma can generate his creation.

Thus when a man and woman are brought together by MAYA and the heat is turned on , the creation occurs. This is the whole concept of Hindu marriage ceremony!

In my point of view , Leonardo da vinci has drawn GOD in this picture.

1. God has the ‘all-seeing eye’/ Eye of Providence that see you wherever you are . The mona lisa will see you in whatever corner of the room you are in

2. God is neither male or female. The Monalisa picture is hard to guess if it is male or female .

3. God doesn’t sleep. The eyelashes are missing in monalisa . Hence GOD doesn’t sleep at all.

4. Mona lisa has an attractive bosom. If you see, human is the only animal which has breasts as ‘Sexual attraction’. For all other animals it’s the buttocks. This transformation the female human species has undergone and this is well denoted by Leonardo da Vinci

5. More surprising is : God is in form of Humans J

Couple of day’s back my newly bought android was screaming with some news updates. When I opened them it was all about Hanukkah being celebrated. Once or twice I have stumbled to wikis and some texts in books of my bookshelf, have seen and been curious about the star of David in the board members group photo of my previous employer ( as it was an Israeli MNC) , but never dug deep to know what is the full story about Hanukkah. When I decided, let’s go for it, what I found was, this has too much similarities to the ‘karthigai vilakku’ of Tamil nadu (you can include Kerala too).

When I was a kid my mom used to light a lot of chittivilakku (small oil-lamps) and this is used to be kept around the doorways and windows of the house. This is celebrated to remember the birth of murugan (Tamil) aka karthikeya (Sanskrit) .Nowadays my mom forgot about this (aging maybe the reason) and I who has come of age have-not inherited this good practice yet. In fact the karthigai deepam for the year 2011 passed by on Dec 10^th while I was in Bangalore. One or two Tamil houses in the community I lived was celebrating , with kids firing crackers .Their homes was lit with the newly fashionable wax-lamps. I was busy on that day for some reason but noticed this with a sadness.yes,a small amount of longing came for the time wheel to churn back, when we were living in the ‘mettu kammalar’ street near meenakshi Amman temple ,Madurai and my mom lighting the chitti vilakkus (every other house around too).

When I read the story of Hanukkah, it seems that they lit the lamps and kept in their homes to celebrate holiday season. Both the star of David and the karthikeya ‘s six edged star have striking similarities. Both these festivals have been almost neglected by the people who celebrate it , thanks to the respective bigger ones. People can’t invest a lot of money in the karthigai deepam as the Diwali precedes it and its celebrated with grandness. Incidentally the earliest reference to Diwali is only in Ramayana. It says that after ram, a north Indian prince returned from south India winning ravanan , people there celebrated by keeping these lights in their house. This, in my opinion, ram has brought the good tradition whatever he saw in the south crossing the vindhyas and spread to the people in north. And slowly through ages this engulfed the original karthigai vilakku in south India.

Similarly the practice of holidaying is seems to have started by the Jews with Hanukkah, by lighting the lamps and keeping in their house. When Christmas became the prominent celebrated festival and holiday season, it slowly engulfed the Hanukkah practice and limited it to a lesser number of practitioners.

On a broad range the Jews and the Tamils have striking similarities. Both are races who have been oppressed and subjected to numerous suppressions by the Aryans, the former in Germany and later in India/sri lanka. Both have a practice of long traditions which has been demonized by the Christianity in the formers case and Brahmanism in latter’s case. Both their temples were destroyed ruthlessly by invaders. The romans in the former’s case and the Mughals/Persians in the latter’s case. Both the Tamil siddar’s works and Jewish customs were banned as black magic by Brahmans and churches respectively , while in fact they were noble science (This will be discussed in later posts whenever I get time).

This article might be little unfinished , but only when I smoked a lot of lamp I can further expand this with legitimacy. Yet I want to make this comparison as its right in the front of the eyes and not researched by many !! This article is an initiation.

Hidden Truth of Indian national flag

This is the flag that is in the heart of our indians since our independence and the same which i have seen from my birth.According to Flag code of India from ministry of India , Dr. S. Radhakrishnan explained the meaning of indian national flag as —“Bhagwa or the saffron colour denotes renunciation of
disinterestedness. Our leaders must be indifferent to material gains and dedicate themselves to their
work. The white in the centre is light, the path of truth to guide our conduct. The green shows our
relation to soil, our relation to the plant life here on which all other life depends. The Ashoka Wheel
in the center of the white is the wheel of the law of dharma. Truth or satya, dharma or virtue ought to
be the controlling principles of those who work under this flag. Again, the wheel denotes motion.
There is death in stagnation. There is life in movement. India should no more resist change, it must
move and go forward. The wheel represents the dynamism of a peaceful change.”

Well, a second look at the flag gives me other perspectives too. Considering the timeline that this flag was created , 1947, i would like to suggest that the Netas of our nation should have chosen the

SAFFRON as it is the color of Hinduism , the majority and indigenous religion of India.Saffron color is associated with sacrifice, religious abstinence, quest for light and salvation. Saffron or "Bhagwa" is the most sacred color for the Hindus and is often worn by Sanyasis who have left their home in search of the ultimate truth.
WHITE , represents the color of the most used sikh(a religion that has roots in India) turban.A sikh website described the significance of the colors of the turban as follows

Turbans come in every color and pattern but there are three colors most commonly worn: white, deep blue, and saffron orange. White turbans are worn to extend the aura and the person’s projection. Royal blue or navy blue turbans are common among Sikh ministers andgyanis, especially in India. The blue is the color of the warrior and of protection. Saffron orange is the third Sikh color and is commonly worn by Sikhs worldwide. Orange represents wisdom. Black turbans can represent surrender of the ego. Other colors of turbans don’t have a significance associated with them. Sometimes it’s just a case of fashion, of matching a turban to a business suit, for example.

You can see that all the three colors most widely used in sikh turbans are present in the Indian national flag.

3.GREEN represents the color of Islam .Wikipedia says the importance of green color in Islam as follows

The color green has a special place in Islam. It is used in the decoration of mosques, the bindings of Qur'ans, the silken covers for the graves of Sufi saints, and in the flags of various Muslim countries. Green has been associated with Islam for many centuries. The colour green was the colour used by Muhammad’s tribe on their flags. According to muslims the colour green symbolizes nature and life. In the Qur'an, it is said that the inhabitants of paradise will wear green garments of fine silk. The colour green has been considered especially Islamic for centuries. Crusaders avoided using any green in their coats of arms, so that they could not possibly be mistaken for their Muslim opponents in the heat of battle.

Although this might not be a religion indigenous to India , India has the third largest muslim population in the world and without representing it we are not complete.

4. BLUE dhamma wheel which also might represent the gandhian spinning wheel is the ashoka wheel of dhamma in Buddhism, a religion born out of India.According to Wikipedia Dharmacakra is a symbol that has represented dharma, the Buddha's teaching of the path to enlightenment, since the early period of Indian Buddhism. A similar symbol is also in use in Jainism, a religion born out of India. It is one of the Ashtamangala symbols.

I am wondering why Christianity is left out but i am assuming that , not confirming.May be the white represents the color of the robe worn by sisters and fathers in church.

Thus the flag represents all of our religion so vividly right in front of our eyes, in my point of view. I don't know how many Indians realized this ?

A most expected film of the year , i saw it first day second show. The film can be divided into two parts . The initial 30 mins is a history channel documentary but thanks to A.R.Murugadoss he vividly brings bodhidharman into picture. He is shown as if crossing Thar or sahara like dessert whereas until i know there is no such a kind of desert from south india to china.. Bodhidharman infact went through Indonesia.The 'china set' was much hyped by surya in the music launch program. But i wasn't impressed. It was simple with a bunch of Chinese.But seriously don't miss the first half !! Its far better than second half. The story moves to the romance part of surya going behind shruthi hassasn. Shruthi hassan has scored in the film and an apt choice for showing a good looking female with brain. But the dialogues given to her are definelty not. yes , she only looks like a good looking girl with brain but the dialogues were simple like a lay man , rather lay woman. The biggest plus point of the movie is the villain Johnny Tri Nguyen as Dong Lee. Seriously he scores very big in the film and infact he is given equal weightage as the hero.His martial arts stunts are stunning and his appearance itself is very cool. The fight where local ditch worker and a tamil young lady do Bruce Lee kind of stunts was extremely hilarious. The biggest minus point of the film is the screenplay. yes its almost easy to guess what will happen next. The Songs are not at all coinciding with the film and hang loose outside. There is no separate comedy track in the film. The ringa ringa song was so pathetic. it shows prominent places of chennai but its totally out of space from the movie.It was much hyped. Like salman khan in Hindi cinema , surya is now stripping off to show his six pack often in Tamil Cinema. But the fact that the martial arts of shaolin and hyptotism in the name of 'nooku varmam' has gone from tamil nadu is seriously not known to many. The story that china is planning to launch a global war against india through injecting some virus to stray dog was not believable and even if so, why to send a agent for this. Any casual traveler can do that.The script seriously sucks there. The final fight was not excellent that much as i expected.But yet the movie didnot allow anyone to go out of theater in between nor any boring lamenting comments. Yes it made the audience to stay connected , but i was not so impressed. It could have been more for me personally .Surya - pls concentrate on acting rather than building more body. You already look good and have a six pack. Now time to concentrate on other parts!

Well, destiny (Rather something else too ;) ) made me to travel around West US extensively. Then when I came back to India, I had the grudge-how can I travel a foreign country this much and discard my own motherland. This made me to travel from kanyakumari to Himalayas (Sikkim) through Kolkata and siliguri during May 2011. Then I charted a big plan for travels based out of Pune. But it busted as my official trip got shortened with only Ajanta and ellora completed. Angered and agitated, I went on to see places based out of Bangalore dominating the four south states(Hampi, Almost entire Coorg,kodachadri,Tirupathi,Kemmangundi,Nagerhole,Waynad) and my first tourist travel to another country – Almost entire Sri Lanka/Eelam (West , South Sri Lanka and east Eelam. Missed Jaffna though dearlyL)!!

But that was too quick.. I have the travel fatigue still lingering on me as I am writing this… And I can’t afford to deplete all I earn on travels. So I am deciding to go steady and consistent and draft a plan for next 10 years!!! I will slowly blog about the previous travels one by one but before that would like to chart out the future first. I don’t know why, but my hand is itching to chart the next one immediately.. So at least this blog will appease my tensions J

The following are in my Hit list as of now. For travel Cost Reason, I am planning to split it into regions. Because its illogical (But possible) to go to Nepal if I am based out of US or Europe..

Based out of India

1. Annapurna

This is the place that I am supposed to go instead of Sri Lanka. But I changed my mind owing to the heavy monsoon that might have hit. But yet this is definitely in my Eye. I was planning to fly to Lucknow and then catch a train to Gorakhpur and then a bus to Pokhara , Nepal from where the trek to Annapurna Starts. The alternate way is to use flights but costly J There are low cost airlines flying from bangalore to luck now and leveraging this might cost me less !!! For trekking there are two options : The route to circle Annapurna , which is tougher and relatively easier Annapurna Base camp trek.

Ideal Month: October / January

2. Jaisalmer :

A Camel safari across Thar dessert is what I want to do base out of Jaisalmer. I was eyeing this from Pune but connections in Train were too many and time consuming. The best option is to book a flight from bangalore at low cost airline to and from delhi and use the train to Jaisalmer from New Delhi.. Total cost for travel alone should be 1600 (A/c class train to and fro ) , 6000 ( Flight to and fro ) .. Also this can be best clubbed with New delhi and Khajoraho , Agra if planned correctly .. The catch here is , the desert may be photo genic but until I heared the camel safari is gruesome and stinking. Be ready to bear it J

3. Lakshadweep

While Sea Diving is available in Andaman, Sri Lanka and Malaysia too, its desirable for me to combine this with Lakshadweep. The best option is to fly from Kochi. If Well planned ahead , then the travel cost alone should be well within 10000 INR. But before all this , I should learn swimming properly J Evn though I am not pakka in it now , that doesn’t rule out my chances to learn swimming and ultimately going to Lakshadweep !!! I am confident

4. Toba , Bali(Indonesia) and Borneo , Pulau Sipadan Island (East Malaysia)

This trail that I am planning goes like this – First fly to Kuala Lumpur (Cost 12 k in AirAsia) , then Fly to Medan (30 $) or use the boat from Penang ,Malaysia to Belawan(Medan). Then To (Samosir )Toba and Gunung Leuser. From there head to Bali and then fly to Kota kinabalu (Borneo) an then to Pulau Sipadan Island. The trip should be 9-11 days when done on a shoe string.

Suitable Month: April / July

5. Kailash, Manasarover and Tibet

My Dream Location. This is the location I want to be on shiv rathiri. Possibly on March 3^rd next Year or any other shiv rathiri. If no other trip I am making until this year end, then I would happily wait for this and Lake Manasarover. Going from the Indian side seemed to be a mess. Hence a visa from china and going from Lhasa should be the better option as the Chinese don’t want any Indians to smell the indo-china border. My intention is not that either. So why to go into a tussle and beaurocracy when the same is possible via Lhasa which is little more expensive and four more days added.

These are the immediate and top on the list . Apart from this the Everest base camp , Leh, Maldives, Mohenjo-Daro(Pakistan) , Cambodia, Thailand , Singapore are doable based in India but not in my immediate hit list J

Hordes of people meet Lord venkateshwara @ vaikundam @ sapthagiri and give a lot of hard earned money in the hundi !! Put a 'namam' !!! Get Tonsured !! This is the truth !!!The above lines of Barathi will fit to most of this people !!!

The irony is that almost all the inscriptions/epigraphs/kalvettu in the walls of tirupathi temple are in Tamil and describe the greatness of the god ,with an age of 500 to 2000 years and above!!!

Many 'pasurams' were sung by alwars in the temple in tamil are considered part of renowned tamil bakthi age!!!

Well.. i am not here to put a bad light on the temple.But wanted to discuss some truths that i felt when i visited the temple yesterday. In the name of renovation work to glorify the temple , i really don’t know how much of precious Tamil inscriptions dating thousands of centuries are lost.All the walls around the garba graha and the exterior walls of the temple are 99% engraved with ancient tamil texts. Even though i cant understand all of them , i felt its our duty to preserve and decrypt them.But in the last five centuries the temple has turned into a money churning machine rather than the great venkatam of the alwars period.And all the renovation will require restructuring and with every restructuring , centuries old carvings are lost :( . This thought sent a deep depression in me when i was running my fingers across the kalvettus.Another thing is I also personally feel the story of 'Vishnu - kubera - money donation to lord venkat' is a bluffing made by some ancient king(s)/dynasty with hands on hands alongside temple priests to extract money from public who would revolt if money is got from them in the name of tax but would readily give double the amount if the money directly reaches god @ vaikundam(abode of god). And indeed whoever controls tirupathi will get more than what he/she invested. No wonder that krishnadevaraya invested huge money in it and made it more famous in the Deccan and the British east India company who have demolished many temples in chennapatnam didnt touch Tirupathi Thirumala temple , rather instituted administrative engines to run the temple. Hence the money given to the temple indeed reaches 'kubera' because whoever administers it is a KUBERA.During the reign of the olden bakti times of the alwars the temple was one of the renowned 108 divya desams ,a holy abode of lord vishnu , not a money churning mountain. The other point i was to shed light on is i found so many people dashing with each other to see the god. There were people who were scolding each other , fighting with each other to see the idol of the god, in the queues. All those were idiots who can’t even realize that god is everywhere(தூணிலும் இருப்பான்துரும்பிலும் இருப்பான்). They are not able to sustain their anger even when going to see the god.Another point is that hardly 5% walk up to the hill to see the god. Rest all give money to the travel agents and pollute the hill too by bringing in hordes of vehicles that exhaust smoke,damaging the ecosystem in the tirumala forests.

By saying all this i am not against praying the god. I have already blogged about the excellent meaning of Vishnu’s dashavatharam and i do read bhaghavat geeta regularly to understand it and appreciate many good parts of it. I like the concept of tonsuring as scientifically it helps in removing the old unwanted cells ( which is called ‘the hair’) and pave way for other unwanted cells to be pushed out of the body. This is practiced in murugan temples of palani and tirutanni too since centuries. But selling this to multinational companies for money is what i don’t like . Why can’t we put to use this hair for utilization in our own country ? The walk up to the hills is also a great exercise and improves fitness of the devotee. But hardly 5% walk up. The temple gives life to many craftsmen as people buy mementos outside the temple. But these thing doesn’t justify the wrongs in the previous para.

Only god venkat knows when these things will change.

Thinking Big - Review cum discussion– Part 1

I was flipping through the book ‘The magic of thinking Big’ by David SCHWARTZ. An excellent book to read through and as I read through the pages a lot of thought came across my mind .Thought of my personal life , thoughts about men / women I have seen. Wanted to share this in my blog. With no names mentioned here and no reference to any person / entity directly, I would like to analyze how I and people around me view Life. Who wins and who looses and how?

Success = Winning

Chapter 1 Opens with Describing success. Although the author has equated success to winning, I rarely see as this is eventual probability for the equation. Think about this : Every person who participates in Olympic wins ? Is this possible. The moto of Olympics itself is participating than winning. It gives more pride in participating. In that sense , India has more pride pitching in athletes time after time but what we have won is very very less than what a poor under developed African country has won. So is there any collective reason for this failure. Yes .Surprisingly the fault is with you and me. I would attribute this to negligence first. We in India take cricket to heart and ignore many other sports. As I write now, the train I am traveling in passed through three grounds across Bangalore. In each ground around 100 guys were playing and 90 played cricket. I saw that a bunch of 10 are playing kokko. And I don’t see a single girl in the ground. There is no way that we can win Olympics in a big way until and unless

we start thinking that’s its possible for us to sweep off all the gold
To make it possible , encourage our kids to participate in all sports
Build facilities (without eating money in corruption) that are world class standards and aid our next generation to use it as a launch pad for the victory.
Give enough Limelight to the person who wins and appreciate it.

Coming off from the topic , The author describes some important aspects of winning that any working class people go through. Fine home , Vacation , Travel, Financial Security etc. Now consider this person who was able to achieve this but end up in failure How ? Lets take a case of a person I know. He was very keen in buying house as soon as he was in 2^nd year in the job. He did not follow the principle of 1/3 ,1/3, 1/3 .. That is to save one third of your salary so that you can easily take it back whenever you want to . Use the one third to operate yourself (House rent if any , mobile , petrol , entertainment , tax etc ). Invest One third. But he was over ambitious and took a home loan ending up paying nearly 50 % of salary to home loan. Many people in my fraternity appreciated this move saying that he is investing in a very young age. Good. Then came the acid test when due to recession many Indian companies refused to pay out Hike for 2 continuous years. Now things began to choke people. All costs in the country (petrol , food , transport etc) rose but not the salary .As soon as the job market re-opened many opted for a high paying job in order to counter the inflation. But the person I said wasn’t able to because he had a fear that if the new company is sloppy pitch then he might end up loosing the job and will face dire consequence of paying back the huge loan without a job. This fear held him back and thus chaining himself to the job he had. The hike given was mediocre. All now he does is that to sober about the huge loan he pays and use this as an excuse to live in mediocracy!!!

Another person I know opted to go abroad and study his MS. While he was leaving things were colorful. He got his Loan approved instantly and he finished the studies. Due to his newly acquired drinking habit he did not save much money and he was over confident that he will get a job after he did his graduation. Now came the issue. After he did the course , he was not able to snatch any good paying job. Ultimately he had to move out of country and back in India. The bank began to chase him to repay. It was a whopping Rs35000 per month that he has to pay. He called me and asked is there any job in the company I was working in . I said “you have to join in as fresher “ .. He was upset with that. Then he joined a BPO and repaying the amount slowly. So success at one point doesn’t guarantee success throughout life. Until I have seen only people who are able to foresee and be preemptive ti win things. He , even though seemed to be successful , ended up in failure.

Ok I will give it a try but I don’t think it will work (Suicidal Attempts)

When I read this statement I felt that the author came and slapped at my face. Yes. I felt very guilty because I have done it many a times. I am admitting it. When I wrote CAT two times, when I gave some interviews during my initial days of my career, when went for some paper presentation during my college days I had the doubt and fear of the outcome. I was more concentrating about how people will react to my failure and dreaming about how a hero I will be come on winning and wasting the time eventually ending up on the negative side. What I should have done was to concentrate on winning, believe I can achieve it, find ways to achieve it, fearless and without a second thought go ahead with the ways to achieve it. Only those methods will fetch success. Moving away from serious case lets take a funny example.

I know a guy who loved a girl. He was very reluctant to propose to her for the fear of failure. He was describing his love to his friends but actually he should have spoken with her about it. One fine day he decided to propose but he was sure that the girl wouldn’t agree or would refuse!! I don’t know why he would like to propose and end up in failure when he thinks it will end up like that. He was in the back foot. He should have formulated the ways to get his girl rather than simply committing a suicidal attempt.

Another example for suicidal attempts is share market .People who guess the movement of nifty simply buy options / futures using the ‘Ok I will give it a try but I don’t think it will work formula’. Why to commit suicide? Have you seen the Indian team loosing many matches using the same formulae .Now in 2011, the team has young blood and a Bengal tiger’s killer instinct. But before that, in the last two decade especially, it was a lame tiger which hunts a mouse to live. Most of the matches, I have seen, were the ‘Ok I will give it a try but I don’t think it will work attitude’. Same with the case of Indian Olympic squad. We are attempting to loose rather than attempting with JOSH to win. This attitude also comes when the fear for the opponent is more. Once I know a person who was seldom failing in chess to a particular opponent. When he goes to the match he says “That person is better player than me. I know. I will loose but I will play”. Mannnn !!!! Why to play such game. Then where is the taste of gaming here.When the outcome is already known!!!

Mr Triumph and Mr Defeat

The author has described in a lovely fashion how both negative and positive polarities influence our victories. The angel and the daemon within us. Once one of my friends said, after reading my blogs ,“Karthik! Your English is too good. I too want to become like you! Even though I am in England I am not that fluent. How to do that? “

Well point one is : She was conversing with me in English and her English was also good. Point 2 is : She was in Uk which is a English speaking country and I am in India where although English is common , it’s a second language. She was really better than almost 80 % Indians. The fact that she is not putting away time and effort to blog in English makes her to find some lame excuse from Mr. Defeat within Her. Coming away from a specific example the average middle class working community has this problem in a chronic fashion. The fear of the parents are passed on to the children so easily in this section of the society has that Mr. Defeat becomes a predominant personality and occasionally one find Mr. Triumph working for such people. So like a donkey going behind a carrot, these people work for the rare win rather than making victory a habit.

Wish Vs Beliefs

The author has very well explained the difference between Wishing and believing in victory. Again Indian cricket team and the Indian Olympic squad is the example I am going to take. We almost believe India will win when there is a India Vs Pakistan in a World Cup because of previous results but we only Wish our Olympic squad Bags first place. This wish and belief of the public is imprinted in the mind of the players too and ultimately they perform to the varying expectations respectively. When you invest in a Stock, how many of us believe we will get profit and how many of us wish that we will get profit. The difference is in the ground study of the stock. People who don’t study a stock and do not do a research invest wishing and on the other hand people who do a background research believe that they will reap profit when they invest in a stock!!!

Another example is a parent whom I know. She was desperately wishing that her daughter will become a doctor. But she was only wishing. The girl did not score well in her exams and landed up in Arts College. The problem here is because she didn’t believe but was only wishing.Only she believed , she would have found ways to facilitate the doctor. Now let me come to my case. When I joined a new job I wish I should buy a car. Whenever I saw a guy with coolers stepping out of a ford Ikon with a cute chic at his side , I WISHED I too had such a car and till now I only wish. Now after reading this I know what mistake I had been doing. I was only Wishing. I wasn’t believing and executing some action to get that :)

Observe and report

The author next emphasizes on observing the difference between a successful person and a failed one. He has taken a specific example that he knows. I would like to take a case that I know.

This story is about two MOMs. One wanted to get her daughter married to a good groom that she selected and the other wanted to get her daughter married to a good groom. For the fear that the daughter will marry someone whom the parents doesn’t choose , the 1st Mom was very strict about the timings of the daughter’s college , the pocket money given to her , the person who is calling her daughter. Almost the girl was caged. And ultimately caged bird always tries to flyaway and it did the same :) .On the other hand the other mom believed in her daughter and gave her enough, but not complete freedom that might harm, welcomed home even the guys who were studying with her. The girl married the guy the parents saw and also the mom gave it to the daughter’s will to choose for her rather than forcing things on her. The difference between the two MOMs is one knows the way how to do and the other just wished.

Another case is between two managers. There were two competing managers who were having similar amount of reportees and were servicing the same client but different modules... One manager's team was able to effectively deliver the promised solution while the other has to stretch a little bit more to finish a half baked one. The first manager was polite to his reportees and trusted that they will do the job. The second one was arrogant and whenever the client sent an escalation mail, he would put the reportee’s integrity in stake instead of assuming responsibility of the reportee’s delivery to himself. So during the course of development the reportees of the first manager were doing their work stress free whereas the reportees of the second manager slogged day and night ,worked under stress, with frequent quarrels in the team and ended up as a rocky boat that touched the shore delayed and damaged!!!

Exquisites

Reading chapter 2 was really great!! I realized why so many times I failed during my past in many things, why I had mediocre success and why I won many a time during my past. The chapter made me to analyze those things.

Human mind thinks of excuses to do an action or refrain from an action. This is imparted in the subconscious mind. When someone intakes alcohol above limits, he / she loose senses and the sub conscious mind begins to speak. When ever I boozed with friends I find that the mind is constantly tries to find reason. One such a person came back from US recently. Some where he was defeated by a competitive peer and also he wasn’t able to find a better job. His family was asking him to come back. So he came back. While drinking he was blaming his family for him to come back. He was saying that his family is not capable of supporting itself and how great like Krishna carrying govardanagiri in a single finger he carries his home. The most irritating part is I have to hear this in one ear and leave in the other. Because this cheap attitude will hurt if I conceive it from him. Unfortunately due to undisclosable reasons I have to booze with him and I was forced to hear his failures which he was describing a success. First hand if he decided to go to US he should have foreseen what his aging parents might face. And decided to go there only if his absence will not cause damage. If he lands up in any failure there he must have the will to fight back because he is there to earn money and lead a better life. Instead he was blame it on the poor ageing parents for missing the wonderful car he had and the clean freeways that are present there, the enjoyable ride he has take in the freeways . Once he was back here suddenly discovered that India has bad road and nasty traffic. Mind tries to find reasons. The subconscious mind battles with the conscious mind always.

One of my dad’s uncle was very displeased that he wasn’t able to get promotion and a junior of him who got promotion as manager five years before has come back to the same branch as manager and he is above him in ranks. He was again blaming his family for holding him back and averting him from travelling. This concept of thinking about excuse has been incubated during childhood for many and unfortunately it travels until the death bed.

My brother was writing leave letter for his kid as they went for the vacation on a friday and on Monday the kid has to give leave letter for the sudden disappearance. My brother was writing that ‘As my daughter had high fever …… blah blah’ .The kid was sittingbesides and learning that giving false excuses is rewarding as she was having the Barbie doll she bought during the vacation.

Fraternity of the Living Dead

Have you ever seen the living dead zombie series and felt that these zombies don’t exist in world? You may have to think again. It might even be you!! The author in the next chapter then describes about People who complain about their health for some failure. Again I felt the author came and slapped me!!!Last year end I was having a stretch of viral attacks due to weather change in Bangalore. I am not used to climate changes. The Places where I have schooled (Madurai ) , studied college and worked (Chennai ) have just one climate type : Hot , hotter , Hottest :) The weather in Bangalore was fluctuating .Its natural for communicable diseases to spread when the weather changes. What I should have done was : I should have pumped up and kept my immunity in good health. Instead I was running into doctors and clinics after every cold , ENT and viral problems. I was blaming the house I was staying in etc etc. I had planned to execute the company change during that time and I planned it while I was in US. But I was postponing that attempt complaining about bad health. My manager asked to travel to US again and my planned switch got postponed until last month due to the complain I was making about health and not trying at that time. This has severely put an set back on my career.

I know one of my friend who always complains about fatigue. If I ask “What happened to your MBA plan ?” , She says “ I am not having time to prepare for GMAT because my health is not good”. “What happed to the job change you are talking about?” , again she says “ My health is not good , No time for that”. The author then describes a case of diabetics patient who has complained about this .

Which means, the count of people dead due to fear is more than the count of people who have been dead due to a tiger.

I know personally know a woman who dies due to fear of `diabetics than diabetics itself. Another middle aged man I know thinks the High BP he has is a disease. In fact both the High BP and the diabetes are actually only imbalances and when the food , exercise , sleep is brought to balance all these will vanish off !!

Swimming pools are sanitized using Trichloroisocyanuric Acid (TCCA) generated chlorine. Swimming in this water for a long time increases the risk of cancer.

      1. Cant swim in swimming pool as it will create cancer slowly and i will die at an early age !!!
      2. If i go the river in my hometown (vaigai) , its all dried up.
      3. Ganga has dead bodies floating in it still.
      4. Kaveri is not released by Yeddyurappa gvt in karnataka in spite of supreme court order.
           I cant swim in    trichy.
      5. If i go near sea , don't know when tsunami will come!! The earth nowadays is shaking too much :)

   Ok .. coming to the main topic I came to know through the Indiblogger 'Join the crusade against chlorine' that Trichloroisocyanuric Acid (TCCA) generated chlorine is used in the modern water purifiers. I was scratching my head and touching my wallet on my last visit to totalmall madiwala , bengaluru with my roommate. He was recommending me "Bro!! Nowadays we cant belive if the water is safe of not . This is a very good investment and good for our health.See the price. its so cheap than other purifiers!! " . As i had some other commitments and budget was tight i said to him "Lets buy on may 1st ". Its good that now i came across this before may 1st. Now i will check and see whether the purifier has these substances and ignore such products.

Travelog - Basavanagudi Bull Temple , Bangalore

I recently went to the Bull Temple ( Nandhi Temple ) in Basavanagudi ,Bangalore. The Temple was a small one but to my surprise it has very good sculptures carves aesthetically around its towers. The main deity (Moolavar / Murthi) is a Siva Linga but the Nandhi seem to hide the entire Linga standing in front as a huge mammoth statue.The nandhi has a trisulam axed on its head. After coming back , i came to know by googling that there is a legend behind it .. Good to know ...The entrance has some small monoliths of nagaraja and various snake carvings. A small tower is present in front of the temple which has four carvings each side. The temple has sculptures in all four sides of the tower but the temple wall blocks the view of two sides.If the tourism department / government ( who ever responsible) takes care of this , then it would be good.

My friend who accompanied me was asking : Why are there explicit statues in temples? Well!! On those days the men and women were married at an early age as early as 13. At such a young age , they might not know what is what about sex. To educate them that its perfectly human or rather better as Heavenly , these kind of explicit sex statues were carved in Hindu Temples

Many websites claim the website was built by kempe gowda. But the architecture, murugan with six face sitting in the main tower , Dancing nataraja statue that resemble the one in chidambaram , kanappanayanar statue , the concept of HUGE nandi that's the trademark of cholas , The twisted snakes mudra and the agasthiyar statue makes me to doubt its built by chozhas and later taken over by someone else. Whoever built it , it will be good if the Karnataka government maintains the temple to avoid withering of the sculptures.

Let the Sun Set in the South

This is my first blog on politics and i am going to Bang on Target . I was an avid supporter of DMK from the time of my adolescent.But this time , I want the Sun to set in the south.The reasons are a lot. But i equally hate jayalalitha coming to power too. I don't want the national 'Hindi'stan parties (BJP and Congress) to set foot in tamilnadu. If that happens that will be nemesis of Tamil as the 'Hindi'stan government will slowly push Hindi replacing Tamil in all fields. This is what they have been trying during last 65 years but as of now that concept is just stopped with Banks and railways (The central government employment agencies).I know to read , write and speak in Hindi.Not to the best , but manageable. I am not a hater of any language but i hate who are haters of other languages.DMK is the first party in india that was able to successfully replace the Nehru Dynasty.Yeah , numerous history books and Wikipedia says DMK replaced Congress. But the right words are : DMK replaced Nehru Dynasty. I consider Indian National Congress as Nehru dynasty.Right from Nehru agreeing for partitioning of India so that he will eliminate Muhammad Ali Jinnah and thus dividing India into two giving a whole chunk to be wholesomely managed by Nehru , Indira Gandhi performing Vasectomy in many Indian males , Rajiv Gandhi allegedly hijacking Huge Money from Bofors, Sonia acting as PM even though not elected , Rahul Dreaming about the thrown , the Nehru family has ruined India. Tell me one thing that will happen for sure or not : Rahul gandhi's son/daughter will be crowned the next Prime minister of India as soon as   30 seconds he/she is born.But , the time in which i am writing this ,Karunanidhi Dynasty is ruling tamilnadu.Not the DMK that once had staunch idealism against God , Brahmins and Hindi.This DMK is a karunanidhi dynasty rather than a political party instituted by the great periyar. Thats the reason why i am pissed off with DMK.

M.K.Azhagiri :

Whenever i traveled to Madurai during last five years , i feel the city has lost its charms making way to towering cut outs of 'anjanejan' M.K.Azhagiri. I cant adjudge whether he is a rowdi or a good man until and unless i am in politics. But what i hear from people is that he has a lion's share in almost all of the real estate transaction in and around Madurai.When i traveled through south masi street , my eyes were nearly in tears to see the small small temples adjoining the great meenakshi temple have lost their charm. We were staying in south avani moola street where i grew up. During those times , the nearby temples are our center for celebrating many annual festivals in our community.All these temple are smoking ruins now and as i crossed periyar bus stand towards my home , i saw towering cut outs of MK azhagiri glittering and touching the sky. If DMK is in power for next 10 continuous years , I am sure meenakshi temple main deity will not be 'Sokkanathar'. It will MK Azhagiri.

Stalin :

His brother stalin is not less tainted.He has a allegedly involvement revolving around Fathima Babu.But that is a old story with no evidence and today brushed as a rumor.There was also one more rumor circling around that he has blood cancer.Nobody knows about thees stuffs.All these are his personal.He did function well as Chennai mayor. I have seen it first hand as he was leading the development of Chennai with as many bridges , parks possible. But who know how much money has gone under the seat and to whom in these developments? He at the age of 60 is leading the youth wing of DMK.. Too young isn't it ? He some how lacks the enigmatic speech and the cunning political acumen his dad has.I bet after demise of karunanidhi , the state will not have a leader to take forward.Stalin is not fit , i bet.

Control of kollywood :
Apart from these two , the entire Muthuvel Karunanidhi family has taken over the film industry. Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies ,Dayanidhi Azhagiri's Cloud Nine Movies , Kalanidhi Maran. 's Sun Pictures have produced / Distributed alomost all blockbusters in tamil cinema in last five years . Gone are the days in which i have seen AVM logo, or laughing KT kunjumon seen as producers. Thus they have suppressed all other producers and distributors.The list doesn't stop with that. Take a look at this business strategy.

All the production houses produce these blockbuster movies. The 80 % of TRP is controlled by SUN tv and KALAIGNAR tv. They repeatedly show advertisement for the latest movie they have released.They also have a non -competing policy , if you watch closely.No two blockbusters will be released at the same time!! Thus they make sure they get the money that is put on these movies.The Police is under control of the government and hence the pirated VCDs are checked very frequently and eradicated. By aggressively market their movies by flexing their MEDIA muscle , they have suppressed other small   to mid budget movie makers. However good the movie was , if they are not in the production of the three listed production houses , they are going bleed in box office. Very few films have escaped this death trap and excelled in last 5 years. Even the mighty rajinikanth and kamal hassan in 'endhiran' and 'manmathan ambu' have to bend their back for these men.Thus the Karunanidhi family has taken Control of kollywood(Tamil Cinema).

Freebies :

                  You must always teach your children to catch fish so that they can live by themselves even after your demise rather than catching fish and feeding them. The people of tamilnadu are made chicken in a broiler by distributing freebies.The basic workforce of a nation should work and feed themselves.One of my friend who owns a SME in Coimbatore was complaining that labors after getting the 1 rupee / kg rice and free groceries refuse to come to work.If DMK comes to power again , better we can remove the 'uzhaipaalar silai' . the statue for the laborers , in marina beach and fix there a new statue of three fat middle aged women watching SUN TV.The distribution of TV is a trick. It actually an invitation to see the advertisements of DMK in form of modified News and self made too much boasting Advertisements.

Tamil / Tamil Eelam :

               The Tamil language and the issue of Tamil eelam are the most abused topic in tamilnadu.Every election the crocodiles come out and shed their tears in front of people. But these dravidian parties will pair up with any party , BJP/Congress, based on the number of cabinet ministers that they get. None of the prime Minister of India is from Tamilnadu yet and we are in 65th year of Independence . These parties have confined tamilnadu into small circles posing as protectionists. No one can forget the famous 2 hour fasting stunt that karunanidhi did in marina beach.“I have decided to add my life to the increasing numbers of lives lost due to the Sinhalese regime’s continuing cruel acts against the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka,” Karunanidhi said.Well , he can go to eelam and join them in fighting instead of saying these statements!! All these are crocodile tears. The issue of tamil eelam , i feel , should be solved by Tamils of sri lanka. There is no need to make them weak by shedding these crocodile tears for the sake of vote.

In contemporary terms ,this means that the nation with indispensable army , talented workforce , wealth , able ministers , good friendship with nearby nations and a good protective force will be the best among the best.

Army is something related to Indian army. So nothing specific to Tamilnadu.
If the development continues to recede in service sectors in the state (which is already happening ) , then sure we have to witness shortness of talented people
The state is going into debt due to freebies.
I dont feel we have very able ministers other than one or two.
Tamilnadu is famous for the rift with nearby states for water.
The last point is also not much relevant only to tamilnadu , but india as a whole.

With many of the points failings , i see less prospectus if DMK Comes back to power in the tamilnadu elections on April 13, 2011. I want an alternative local party with staunch idealism to take over the state. Until then let the state alternate between DMK and ADMK.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni - Best Leader Among Indian Captains

I am starting to write this post when India is 124/3 in the final between srilanka and india in WC 2011.The odds are fighting with the evens for India to Win.Dhoni at crease. There is a saying in tamil : இப்படை தோற்கின் எப்படை வெல்லும்(If this army looses , then which won will win ?).Thats the case of the Indian team now. This team has the strongest batting line up that i had ever seen since since i started watching cricket. Even though previously Indian team was touted with the same tag when azhar , jadeja were ruling the crease , after that ganguly and dravid tearing the opposition those batting line ups have suck dust in front of Australian Glenn McGrath or pakistan's Wasim Akram.But this time the story is different. The young blood who bleed blue are not the same lame cows in the tiger's skin. The reason is mainly Dhoni. He always keeps his head cool. I have never seen his face sunken in deep sorrow in stages of distress. In a cool and calm way he strategies the next moves with only victory in the foresight.I have grown up seeing azhar lead the Indian team in his reign. But in those time , the entire team was dependent on Sachin. If Sachin scores , then India wins. If sachin fails , then india looses . Azhar would have got tired due to late night stress (!!!!! ;) ) as sangeeta bijlani would be seen travelling with him.He would come out to crease , score some runs here and there and then get out for the tail to fight for India . Even though he is the most classy player who can play flick at his legs , Winning for the country matters more than personal Tons. Then came Sachin , who is of course the best batsman India has ever produced , but unfortunately the leadership quality was missing in him. Then came ganguly.I would say , if there was a race among captains of India , Ganguly will come second . He built a young team . A more vibrant team that won us many matches. But unfortunately he fell under complacency. The same attitude jayalalitha had during 1996 TN Elections. Never weigh your opposition lightly. Then came Rahul Dravid. Even though dravid is a classy batsman and was our WALL , he too lacked the leadership in him.Leadership is about making right decison at right times.And supporting the team and spearheading it. Shewag who came next also failed

But MS DHONI makes through all rules of the concept of leadership.

No tension at the time of cat on the wall situations.
Making right decisions at right time.
Entrusting his bowlers when given the last over.
Not promoting himself in the top of the order even when he can do it using his power of captaincy (We have seen this with sachin , azhar , dravid , ganguly but rarely with dhoni)
The art of Foreseeing. The decision to include nehra amid strong opposition during India Pakistan semi final is an example.

With Indian cricket booming around IPL, Dhoni actually has a lot of pressure on his shuolders and he never seems to be shoiwing a 'thinking man' face even when there are 1000's of camera in the stadium.I finish this blog here , wishing MS Dhoni to lift the cup as India are 174/3 in 33.5 overs with MS Dhoni Still in the crease !!!!

My Moustache Dream

This is one thing that i seriously envy when i see a man with big Moustache near my home ,having said that i come from Tamilnadu. Let it be virumaandi where kamal plays hard taming the bull and the cow ( Abhirami ) and then touches the moustache to show his masculinity or let it be surya who single-handedly footballs ten rowdi in singam and touches the moustache to deliver his punch dialogue , or Hitler who gives glorifying speech to the Germans with the tiny little moustache or the photo of bharathi that i see whenever i read his poems , i always envy them ... Its not that i don't have mustache . I have something like drawn with a thick pencil. Whenever my nerve boils or i want to say a prideful statement , i cant touch my mustache and say "தமிழன்டா"!! Because the mustache is like a mouse's . The moment i get my hand near the moustache , i feel like suddenly becoming a cat after being a lion. So i refrain from touching it. During my adolescent i have tried a lot of funny stuffs to make my moustache grow. Some said , applying curd makes the moustache grow.. I tried that , in vain. Some said , shaving often will make the moustache grow. I tried that , unfortunately , it grew only to the same size . There are more funny and weird stuffs that i cant even share here !!!! All i can say is that i have tried all sort of stuff but in vain .When i was scouting for dresses and other items for the skits we made , i found a store in kodambakam which had a variety of mustaches and beards. The shop owner took pride to tell that he supplied to rajini too in movies.For a second i had the thought to buy one and wear it for special occasions but thought i will be fooling myself , to leave the idea , a heavy heart and the mustache behind.At-least i have learnt to be contempt with what i have and all i pray is to have a big moustache in the next 'janmam' i take , even if it is to be a sea lion.

A wonderful topic to blog on my birthday!!!! I am going to talk about smile and not laughter. Smile differs from laughter and I would say its one step ahead of laughter. If you are making fun of someone, it might bring a hearty laughter to you but it’s not necessary that it will make other person too to laugh. But smile will, for sure, bring another smile until and unless I am smiling at a donkey. Smile is something that is contagious. I like to meet and greet people who smile at first sight. But unfortunately most people in India don’t do that .After my onsite visits, where greeting & smiling is the de facto code when two eyes meet, I was still having the trait when I came back to India. In India (Mostly) people, that too the uneducated, don’t smile at unknown persons when two eyes meet. The reasons are aplenty. When I came back to India , in the airport I smiled at the taxi driver who came to asking for a taxi drop.He was puzzled when I smiled at him and looked at me strangely and funnily. I understood but I cant take back the smile :) When entering office the next day, I smiled at the office security. He glared back at me with a puzzled face as if "What happened to this idiot! He is smiling at me. Am I a girl ?". Then I realized I am doing French in Rome :) The rule here is: Smile and greet a girl with a lip that touches the ear and when a competitor (another male) comes by, say a ‘hi’ with a smile that rarely stretches the lip muscles. Are we Indians too sexual? Why can’t a man give a big smile to another man!! I am not too generalizing here. There are good men who smile at people they meet, from peon to CEO, to vegetable vendor to autowala. But the ratio of these persons are 1 :100 when compared to the former type. If this is the case with men, the case with woman is too interesting to analyze. When I greet a good looking girl with a smile, the way she smiles back sometimes makes me to think "Ah we have one more jollu party in my kitty! Smile back and he is a puppet in your hands instantly”. Not smiling is the most dangerous weapon a woman uses if she is terribly displeased with the person. The smile also makes the focus on the lips, which is the most attractive feature in the face for a woman!!

Smile when you are angry

Smiling when you are angry is not as easy to do as saying it. It requires a lot of maturity to do this. But once someone is able to achieve this, trust me its the biggest asset. I have long tried this and successful many a times but I will agree that not all the times I am successful. After all I am made up of nerves and I have not even reached the half mark of a man's cycle, the age of 33. But when I try to smile at the time of anger, I actually come to normal state even if i am not able to smile. It would also be a stupidity to laugh at a place where you are not expected to. But when you try to smile during anger, you can actually become an expert in ‘Anger Management’.

To conclude, I will like to iterate the following words from a MGR song

சிரித்து வாழவேண்டும் , பிறர் சிரிக்க வாழ்ந்திடாதே

Live laughing in your life but not as a laughable object!!
