Are you interested in Fly In Fishing Tips?

We thought we would provide a thread for our guests to post their fishing experiences on our website. You can post your fly in fishing ideas as well as your favorite spots to fish on our lakes. If anyone has fishing methods they would like to share please feel free to post them in this Blog. You can also search Google Earth and tag your favorite Fly In Fishing Spots and your Fly In Fishing Tips on the Kashabowie Outposts lake maps.

Thank you to our Guests

Our Kashabowie Outposts team would like to thank all of our guests, particularly the dedicated guests that continuously contribute pictures and fly in fishing tips. Thank you very much.

Fly In Fishing Tips from John

Here is an example of the type of information we would like to post from one of our longtime guests John Crosetto.

Warning you may be attacked by fish!

Loganberry was unbelievable for walleye. We could catch big ones anytime we wanted and very close to the cabin. We kind of walleye fished in the evenings and spent most of our time searching for the giant pike.

Although we did not catch a pike over 45″ which was our goal we did get 12 or 15 of them over 40″. What we used were Storm swim baits, 5″ long with a single hook coming out its back. We fished it in the weedy areas at both ends of the lake, mostly the end closest to the cabin. These were pretty weedless. Also we cast double bladed buck tail spinners with big bushy and shiny tails. This worked good to.

I did spend a lot of time dragging the bottom of the lake with those giant Grandma plugs. The lake is perfect for this depth wise. The deepest part of the lake I found was 35 feet. I caught fish consistently with this approach but nothing big. I found this strange.

I would love to fish Loganberry in May when those Pike are picking off the spawning suckers and walleye in the running water. There are many huge Pike in that lake. Top water baits or live suckers would be unbelievable.

John Crosetto Chicago, IL.

Post your Fly in Fishing Tips

This is The kind of information we would like to see all of our guests posting on our site. Just go to the blog section and search for Fly In Fishing Tips and post them in the section. Thank you again for all your contributions and we look forward to seeing your pictures and reading your idea’s.

Walleye is the most popular sport fish our Canadian Fly in Fishing Guests are seeking. Any way you cook it, walleye is very delicious.

Here is a simple recipe on how to bake 6 to 12 walleye fillets. Find more walleye recipes here.

Ingredients

4 eggs
1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese
3 teaspoon seasoned salt
6 walleye fillets
6 table spoonfuls water
1 1/2 cups instant mashed potato flakes

Method

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees f. this is the best temperature to cooked baked walleye as it is warm enough and not too hot. Grease a baking sheet thoroughly.

Break the eggs in a bowl. Add the six table spoonfuls of water. Beat the mixture together until it runs very smooth. When you are sure it is smooth, set aside.

Put the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese and potato flakes into another jar and mix them well. Season and salt them until they get the taste you want. Here you can also add other spices that you may find suitable.

Take the walleye fillets one by one. Start by dipping them into the egg mixture. When they are wet and sticky enough, mix them in the breadcrumb mixture. Ensure that each fillet gets both the egg mixture and the breadcrumbs distributed evenly on all sides.

When you are done with each fillet, place it on the baking sheet. The sheet should be large enough to accommodate all the fillets. When you are finished placing the fillets on the sheet, cover with tinfoil and place it in the oven.

Bake the fillets in the oven until you are sure that the fish is opaque at the center and that it flakes easily. Remove the sheet from the oven and leave to cool. Now you have your yummy baked walleye fillets.

The Fishing Is What It’s All About!

The real highlight of your trip is the fishing! For more than twenty years, we have taken exquisite care to preserve and develop our fisheries. Our catch and release practices over the decades have led to our lakes boasting teeming populations of some of the largest trophy walleye, northern bass and smallmouth bass in all of Canada.

Where To Find The Best Smallmouth Bass Habitat

The optimal habitats of the smallmouth bass include cool, clear lakes and streams. These fish need abundant shade and cover as they’re used to hiding in the darkness. This is what makes them especially challenging to catch and great for sport fishing. Smallmouth bass also thrive in deep pools and streams with moderate to low currents.

However, it’s also a well known fact that smallmouth bass grow fastest in lakes and reservoirs. Of course, it goes without saying that several of our pristine lakes offer the best environment possible for smallmouth bass populations!

Since smallmouth bass love clear lakes deeper than 20 feet at most places, our top remote lakes qualify as excellent environments for smallmouth bass to thrive. This species likes deep lakes because of the ample cover they provide. In the heat of the summer, smallmouth bass love cool deep spots in our lakes.

Many of our lakes perfectly fit all the criteria of ideal habitats for the smallmouth bass! This is exactly why there is no better place than our pristine private fly-in lakes for some of the very best Canadian smallmouth bass fishing.

Those of us who worship the rod and line dream about a Canadian Fly in Fishing Vacation! We are well aware that there’s just no feeling quite like the one you get while standing at the side of a beautiful, serene lake, working your line without a worry or care in the world.

In our busy, hectic lives we often find precious few moments to relax, and there’s nothing more relaxing than fishing.

The Rarity Of True Solitude

The problem, though, is that there are so few places where we can truly be alone. We know it’s for the good of the environment that fishing areas are so heavily regulated, but it can often feel as if we’re standing in a crowd when we go fish by a river or lake. Too many fishermen and not enough shore to go around.

Wouldn’t it be nice, then, to really get away from the crowds? To enjoy the wonders of nature in perfect solitude by the side of a pristine lake teeming with fish?

There’d be no better break from the fast lane, and that’s why we at Kashabowie Outposts believe a Canadian fly in fishing vacation should be on every fisherman’s bucket list.

Ontario fly in resorts offer some of the best fishing lakes in Canada for walleye, smallmouth bass and northern pike, with populations that have been carefully developed over the years with the intention of providing the best fishing experience possible.

Low Fishing Pressure

One of the greatest problems facing fishing enthusiasts today is the fact that the pressure on our available lakes, rivers and oceans has become so great that it can often be difficult to get a single bite. Aquatic populations are hammered every day by hobby and commercial fishermen, and the fish simply don’t have the chance to recover their numbers. Fishing just isn’t the same as it once was.

In our remote fly in fishing resorts, however, the golden age of fishing is still here. The low fishing pressure at these out of the way lakes means that fish populations are always healthy, and the lakes teem with fish of numerous species.

A Family Bonding Experience

‘Family time’ was once a revered ritual. Parents would bond with their children, children would learn from their parents, and whatever the activity it brought families closer together. Today, though, it often seems as if family time has been replaced with TV time, Internet time and video game time.

Out on the shore of a remote Canadian lake, though, there are no distractions. In most places, you are the only cabin on the entire lake! Each Outpost Camp is equipped with a radio phone, so you can contact the outside world, but there are no cell phones to interrupt a conversation, no text messages, and no Internet to get in the way of just spending time together. There’s just the peace and quiet we once had, and the time for a father to really listen to his children, appreciate them – and snap lots of pictures!

Our Ontario fly in fishing outpost cabins are the ideal place to reconnect with your kin or old friends. Far from the distractions of modern life you can rediscover the simple pleasures of spending time together, sharing fantastic fishing you’ll never forget, and enjoying the wonders of this breathtaking nature – as a family.

A Haven Of Comfort In The Wilderness

Of course, the outstanding fishing at our Canadian lakes come complete a stay in a remote outpost cabin.

With Kashabowie Outposts, you can be surrounded the beauty of the wilderness, and enjoy modern touches to offer comforts that make your stay a true vacation.

A propane powered fridge and stove will allow you to enjoy your catch, and solar lights, hot and cold water and indoor showers and many other amenities will offer much needed relaxation after a long day enjoying the outdoors.

Plan Your Canadian Fly in Fishing Vacation

Northern Pike the best when family fishing with the kids because they very easy to catch. Pike are very aggressive, and here at Kashabowie Outposts, they among the most popular game fish in our remote fly in fishing lakes.

This makes our Children-16-And-Under-Are-1/2 Price-Deal very popular!

Fishing for Northern pike is very popular as it offers a novice fisherman quite an easy fishing task to catch small pike, and at the same time, offering experienced anglers the elusive hunt for the biggest trophy Northern Pike.

A word of caution – Pike also have many rows of very sharp teeth – therefore proper fish handling skills should be practiced before you take the kids fishing.

Small Northern pike generally feeds on small bugs, frogs and minnows while the big pike fish generally feed on whitefish, walleyes, small ducks, other Northerns… pretty much anything that moves.

The most likely place to fish a large pike is at the outside edge of weed-beds that are located near a river mouth or between narrow water flow such as between islands.

There are a number of reasons why the Northern pike is the best for family fishing. You don’t need sophisticated fishing equipment for catching Pike.

They will hit just about any lure. This makes them one of the easiest game fish to catch. For instance, the most common lure is a silver and red spoon lure with a treble hook. Pike can also be lured by thundersticks, jigs and Rapalas.

If you want to catch the really big northern pike, you’ll need to use a really big lure.

The Northern pike is also known to play with bait. This makes it suitable for fishing with kids because you can be assured that the kids will have a memorable experience fishing. Pike may hit bait several times playfully before actually taking the bait. While fishing, kids therefore do not need to worry about the fish ignoring the bait because Northern pike have very ferocious appetites.

You can also cast for pike from shore which is ideal and safe for kids fishing.

There are two types: the yellow Walleye, and a subspecies called the blue Walleye that is native to the southern Great Lakes, and can be caught on Mosher Lake.

These large, olive/gold colored game fish are called “Walleye” because their large eyes reflect light like the eyes of a cat. Growing up to 20 pounds, these tasty fish are popular with anglers and their hungry friends and family members on shore!

If you go fishing for Walleye in the springtime, you’ll find them gathered near the shore, around sand bars and wild rice beds, in weedy areas and rocky areas, as long as there‘s a sandy bottom. You’re more likely to find small males in shallow areas where there’s more spawning.

Big females are usually found in deep water in the daytime. They spawn on sand and in river current in the springtime, and they’re really aggressive at this time of year. It’s easy to catch Walleye in the spring because they’ll go for almost any lure you use.

At night, you’ll have better luck trolling for really big (10+ pounds) female Walleye in shallow water. You can find them at the spawning beds or chasing minnows near the shore. You’ll want to troll along slowly right along the weeds or near the shore with your Junior Thundersticks or Original Floating Rapalas in Fire-Tiger, Blue or Silver. You’ll need to use a lot of line, and you’ll have good luck if you can stop in an area that has weeds and a sandy bottom or a sand bar.

Walleye Fishing Tips For Summer

If you’re fishing for Walleye on a warm summer day, you’re more likely to find them in very deep water and shady places (like in weeds). In any part of the country, you’ll want to use your white twister-tails this time of year, and you’ll need to have a good supply. If you’re fishing in the north, you should use unscented twister-tails. You could also use salted minnows or salted bait in the north.

On a summer’s evening, you’ll find the big female Walleye eating along the shore, and you can troll along the shore with smaller lures, same as in the springtime. If you want to catch them during the day, you’ll need to jig for them in a good deep spot.

Best Walleye Lures

You can troll along the shore or cast with lures like shallow running shad-raps or crank-baits. Some of the best Walleye lures are Junior Thundersticks and Original Floating Rapalas. The best colors are Fire-Tiger, Blue and Silver.

Jigging For Walleye

When you go jigging for Walleye, you can use a one-eighth or one-quarter ounce jig. It can have a black, green, yellow or white twister-tail. Walleye like white twister-tails best, and they’ll go for them any time of the year. Usually, you’ll get more strikes if you add a little bit of worm or some Walleye gullet, but in the springtime, you don’t have to. If you want to just catch a few big Walleye in the daytime, go on out to the deep water for the females.

When jigging for Walleye in the summertime, you could go out on shoals or rocky points where there’s deep water and steep drop-offs. You could also try jigging in or near thick weeds. In summertime, you’ll find small Walleye in the one-four-pound range up close to shore. Just like in springtime, the big females stay out in the deep water, but in the summertime, they stay very deep. If you’re lucky enough to find a good, deep spot where a lot of big Walleye hang out, you can have a good day’s fishing without moving around too much!

Trolling For Walleye In Open Water

On some occasions you can find really big, trophy-size Walleye in the thermal layer in open water. They like to hang out there and feast on schools of smaller fish, and they aren’t easy to find. In fact, you’ll have to have a depth finder to locate them by locating the schools. In the north, you’ll usually find them at about fifteen to twenty feet depth in open water.

Once you find your Walleye, you can troll for them using deep diving lures like Husky Jerk in brown or silver. You could try blue and Fire-Tiger, but brown and silver seem to do better in the open water. You’ll need to determine how much line you need to use. Look for lures that include a chart showing depth-to-line-ratio to make this easier.

When you’re trolling for Walleye in open water at extreme depths, it’s good to use a three-way-swivel rig with a worm harness. Slow back-trolling is the best way to catch a monster trophy fish. You’ll sometimes find these big Walleye near the shore in very deep holes. The tell-tale sign is an area that has dense weeds and a sharp drop-off. Troll there, and you’re sure to catch a monster Walleye!
