I folded a Peacock designed by Jun.MAEKAWA.
This work is one of most my favorite origami.

The wing is "Miura Ori", famous origami technique.

Paper size is 15cm square.

The diagram is in "Genuine Origami".

20th Origami Convention

In August 16,17, I went to Toyo University.
The 20th Anniversary Origami Tanteidan International Convention was held in that place.

Many people love origami visited there.About 450 people.

In origami convention,I could enjoy the exhibition,many workshops and dinner party very very well.
And I taught an origami squirrel(created by Mr.Maekawa) in one of the workshops.
It is my first time class on my life.Wao!

I'm so happy now.
Please come to the next convention.

Origami Deer

This origami deer have structure of Mr.Kawabata's Yoda.
And I imitated the finishing touches of Mr.Maekawa's reindeer.
Mr.Kawabata and Mr.Maekawa are very famous origami artists in Origami world.
I respect them.

Hercules Beetle the Before and After

In the summer, we go out to find and catch some insects.
It's so hot this summer, then I fold an insects in cool room.

By the way, I folded same model in July.2010.

I thought that my origami skill little progressed in 3 years.
Persistence pays off.

Origami frog on wet folding

Maybe, many people don't like it.
But I like very much.They are very cute and their eyes are very kind.

Today, I folded an origami frog.
I used water.
I wetted an origami paper after folded the frog, and I made a frog form.
When it dry out, complete.
The technique is called "wet folding".

Unit origami ball

Origami that made of one sheet, is not all of origami.
Origami made of many sheets of paper, is fun too.
The relish of one sheet origami and the fun of many sheets origami is different.
How different? Try it and you can catch faster than I explane.

This origami ball is made of many same parts.
Such origami is called "Unit Origami". In this case, 30 parts.

Let's enjoy unit origami.

1. Fold.

2. Fold.

3. Fold.

4. Turn paper over.

5. Fold.

6. Fold.

7. Memorize the point A.

8. Turn paper over.

9. Fold.

10. Memorize the point B.

11. Turn paper over.

12. Fold the point A toward the point B.

13. Unfold.

14. Fold the corner toward the corner. This time, the point A and B open.

15. Fold.

16. Turn paper over.

17. Fold.

18. Fold.

19. Unfold.

20. 1 piece complete.

21. Make more 2 parts.

22. Insert into the middle layer.

23. Repeat 22.

24. Make more 5 blocks.

25. And repeat 22 and repeat 22 and repeat 22 and......

26. Then complete.

Unit origami is not easy. Especially makeup is difficult.
However, the folding is easy in many case.
Witch do you like better, one sheet origami or unit origami?

Super zoom! What is this?

This is origami peacock's wing.

How beautiful this pattern is.

This pattern is "ミウラ折り(miura ori)". This pattern is very famous.
What are you think about how it store solar panel of satellite in a rocket? It has to fold efficiently, and must unfold it easily.
"Miura ori" is pattern that lay parallelograms on the paper. It can fold easily and it can unfold simply. "Miura ori" is best.
In fact, NASA use "miura ori".
However, the preparing is bother. I had to fold many times.
First, I folded vertical divide by 32. And, I folded lateral divide by 32.
And and, I folded all diagonal line.
I took 1 hour for just preparing.

When I finished fold all, I gave a deep sigh.

I recommend a book if you want to fold more difficult origami

I bought this book about 5 years ago.

When I read(correctly tried) this book, I became to be able to fold complex origamis.
If you can fold the origami crane(ori-tsuru) and you want to fold more difficult origami,
I recommend the book.

But if you can't fold the origami crane, I don't recommend.
It is early for you.

I introduced how to fold the origami crane in this page.
English version is published too.

The title is "Genuine Origami".(Japanese name is "本格折り紙(Honkaku origami)")

I introduced how wonderful the book is below.

In this book, there are 5 parts.
For super beginner, for beginner, for middle, for advanced and extra.
Then, you will progress your origami ability if you fold the work in simple order.

In the part for super beginner, these origamis are introduced.
In these works, sometimes it is too simple to understand what this is when the first.

For example, what is this?

This is giraffe.
You don't look like giraffe? However, you think that "I can fold this because this is simple"?
Yes, it is easy.
If you have folded the all super beginner's works, you should go to next.

Next, the part for beginner.

There are works more realistic than before part.
You can recognize, kabuto, dolphin, monkey, boar, snake, doll and tree.
In this part, basic origami techniques are introduced.

In part for middle, more difficult works and more important skills are introduced.
I folded works of this part many times. I could train origami ability.

They are, horse, sheep, triceratops, dragon,
standing crane, 3 heads crane, rabbit, penguin, mask of tiger(it is not a bear,I have mistake that using brown paper), mask of devil,
cow, frog, present box, squid and papillon.
And the boss of middle area, pyramid.

By the way, the one by one works have the theme through the book.
For example, "realistic", "mathematical", "distinguish origami by using 2 colors" and "3 dimensional".
When looking at carefully, you may recognize they have another characteristic.
This book taught me various origami views.

Before I write about advanced part, I introduce about extra corner.
The book introduce mainly about origami works that made of 1 sheet of square paper.
However, origami is not only that.
Using 2 sheet of papers or using many parts or not using square paper should be called origami too.

In the book, such works are introduced like these.

Tea bag deer

Dolls displayed on the girl's festival day

This doll is not 1 sheet. The body and kimono are set.

Mt.Fuji module

This is called "unit origami". This is framed of 30 sheet of papers.
Not 1 square origami are interesting too, how about you?

At last, for advanced.

This part is the corpus of before.
The quantity of works smaller than middle part.
However, you will take more times than that.

Chinese dragon, flying beetle, devil, chick, tyrannosaurus, turkey and peacock.
I can feel that the book author is particular about Fingers, horns, wings and details.
If you folded these origamis and give to someone, they will be glad.
Me too, my grandmother is very glad!
And I can enjoy origami more and more.
When you have folded the devil, you will love origami.

Unexpectedly Brachiosaurus

I created the origami Brachiosaurus.

Brachiosaurus is the one of the famous dinosaur that has a long long neck.
So, I don't explain about that. The detail is published on the Wikipedia(Brachiosaurus)
I didn't think that to explain is bother...

I didn't want to create the origami Brachiosaurus.
I was folding a paper casually.
Unexpectedly, the work was born.

This is easy, so I will make the diagram.

Origami Nazugul

Did you go to the movie "Load of the Ring".
Mr.Jason Ku who is an origami artist(his homepage) created a character of the movie.
It is Nazgul.
The diagram is published in Tanteidan Magazine Vol.129. Then, I tried.

Zoom.

Other side.

The size. Paper size is 55cm * 55cm.

"Nazgul" is "nazg" plus "gul".Nazgul is on the black horse.
In this work, gul and horse are on one sheet of paper.
Maybe "gul and horse is" is correct direction.

Origami tiger.
Of course, it is 1 sheet of square paper. And it was not used scissors.
This work is the most complex in the book.

I pasted the big yellow paper on the big black paper.
Because, I don't have a paper that the front side is yellow and the reverse side is black.
Such a paper is seldom on sale.
So, I had to make the tiger paper.

The face had become gentle. I wished to fold more stern face.
It look like an uncle.
Next time that if I fold same one, I want to fold a very terrible tiger like god father.

I gave the room a good sweep in the new year.

8. Pleat fold. What is the "pleat fold" ?

P.S.
The art of folding more sharp.
When you fold a crease toward a crease like the step 5, you should fold blow.

If you Fold the blue line toward the red line, you should put the *1 and the *2 together.

It is better that there are many folding marks.
You can fold more sharp. Try it when you feel good.

Basic Technique "mountain fold"

This is origami's basic for origami's newcomer.
"Mountain fold" is called "山折り(Yama Ori)" in Japan.Mountain is "山(yama)".
Often case, "mountain fold" is shown a dotted line like this.

You may encounter direction like this.
"Fold and unfold."

Then, you should fold below.
1. Turn paper over.

2. Valley fold and unfold.

3. Turn paper and complete.

Left paper is "valley fold", right paper is "mountain fold".

Valley fold's reverse is mountain fold.

Create origami deer's head and incidentally dragon

Way to creation of a deer.
Before Christmas, internet user who searched "origami deer" often came this blog.
I thought that "if I create a deer, everyone will be glad".
Then I started create an origami deer. But, I could not catch the Christmas.
Today, I have created just deer's head. The body is not yet.

It looks like a wall hanging.A stuffed head is not usual in Japanese home.

The unused parts of paper were left over in back.
I wish I could make the body from the surplus parts.

By the way, deer's horns are branched.
The horns are not branched in my above photos.
I want to create branched horns.

However, this will be fit a Chinese dragon's head.
Like this.

I wish I could fold dragon's body too...
I want to this I want to that, this post will not take sharp...

Basic technique "Valley fold" and point for more beautiful folding

Today,I introduce an origami basic technique "Valley fold" for newcomer,
and careful point for more beautiful folding.

"Valley fold" is called "谷折り(Tani Ori)" in Japan.
Often case, "valley fold" is shown a dotted line like this.

For example, if you encounter direction like this
"Fold and unfold.",

you should fold bellow.
1. Set origami paper.

2. Fold the *1 to the *2.

3. Half way.

4. Crease the base of the triangle.

5. Unfold.

6. Complete.

Congratula... Wait, wait!! Look at the No.4 carefully.

The corner is sifted.
This is not good for beautiful origami.

Technique for more beautiful folding.
When you fold No.2, it is not good that just putting *1 and *2 together.
You should fold the edge to the edge.
Put *3 and *4 together and put *5 and *6 together.

If the origami paper is not accuracy square,
the edges or the corners may be shifted.
In that case, it is good that *1 point and *2 point are shifted.

The edges is not shifted, that is point of beautiful folding.

How to make "Origami feathery Heart"

This origami is heart with wings.

This origami heart requires "Inside reverse fold".
If you don't know that, please read How to "inside reverse fold" .

Then, start.
1. Fold in half and unfold.

2. Fold in half and unfold.

3. Fold corners to the center.

4. Turn paper over.

5. Fold the edge to the center.

6. Fold the edges to the center and unfold.

7. Fold the corners to the center edge and unfold.

8. Inside reverse fold.How to "inside reverse fold" .

9. Turn paper over.

10. Inside reverse fold.This is difficult point.Look at next photo careful.

11. Fold the corners to about center and unfold.

12. Inside reverse fold.

13. Turn paper over.

14. Fold the flap to furthest point.

15. Fold the corners to the edge.

16. Fold the corners to the edge.

17. Crease at quarter.

18. Pleat fold and turn paper over.What is the "Pleat fold".

4. Turn paper over.
