I chose to complete a promotional/marketing video to promote my high school. I originally saw it at a breakout session at the Nebraska Career Education's annual conference in Kearney last summer. It explains why today's learner is a digital native like we've never seen before. It explains it in a way that really makes me consider and reevaluate the delivery methods I incorporate in my classroom. This video does an excellent job showing how prevalent technology is our student's lives and the ways that we can use Web 2.0 tools in the classroom.

Here is the link...http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=448&title=Pay_Attention.

Enjoy!
Kate

2-Minute Movie

Here is my 2-minute movie. It includes 1-2 minute video podcasts about Personal Finance topics ranging from renter's insurance to retirement planning. I liked the wide range of topics that are included. Ms. Chatzky covers financial topics such as caring for the eldery, marriage/wedding planning, health insurance, and home buying. I also liked that each video was short in length. It could easily be used to start off a lesson or fill the last couple of minutes of a class period. However, sometimes the general topic was split into three or four podcasts (for example, there were two separate podcasts about employer-sponsored benefits...one about flexible spending accounts and one about retirement savings plans). I would have preferred some of her topics to be a little more in depth and possibly combined to give complete information in one podcast.

This podcast could easily be incorporated into a Personal Finance course. The topics are relevant to the students' financial literacy. It addresses topics they are going to face regardless of what they chose to do after graduation.

Kate

Article Review PhotoStory

Here is my article review PhotoStory...Enjoy!!

Kate

<itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit><itunes:subtitle>Here is my article review PhotoStory...Enjoy!! I am 30 years old...yet quickly approaching 31--which I have concluded is even worse than being 30...as bummed as I was about turning 30 last year, at least it's a "milestone" birthday and a great reason to have a celebration with family and friends. Thirty-one will mean I am officially in my 30s...not just "testing the waters" there! :)

I have been teaching high school business for 8 years. I cannot believe that I am starting my 9th year of teaching...especially since there are still times in which I still feel like a rookie...where has the time gone?? I've spent my entire teaching career in Valley, Nebraska--my first four years were at Valley High School...then we merged with Waterloo in 2005 so I've now added four years with Douglas County West. I also sponsor FBLA, Student Council and the cheerleaders (I, along with a colleague/friend said "yes" to the cheer job in a moment of weakness...and I believe it's the kind of job that once they get you to take it, it's yours for life!)

I have been married for nearly 5 years to my husband, Mike. We have a 3-year-old daughter, McKenzie, who just started preschool...much to my strong objection that is even possible that my little girl is old enough to be in school! She is such a smarty pants...she is reading books already! She amazes me all the time. I am also expecting our second child. Our baby boy is due January 3...a new year's baby...though I'm hoping more for a "tax deduction" baby!

I am looking forward to this course...I am always on the lookout for more ways to incorporate technology in my classes...using both self-created and existing resources!
