it's hard to find things that she likes that are also her size. When we were in Hawaii she saw a ukulele in a store that she absolutely had to have. I'm not sure she's really ready to actually play anything recognizable, but she enjoys it a lot and that's what it's all about.

Congrats!

My cousin recently landed a small role in a movie and we were all SO excited! It kind of stinks that we all live so far away, it would have been great to have seen it for the first time with him. So, instead I had gift baskets delivered in New York City to his home and workplace. It's so neat to know that his confidence is building up enough that he's going out for roles in film and on TV. I can't wait to see him doing a while lot more!

How Things Change

My dad was one of the crowd that jumped on the boat when car phones came out. Everyone who had one had those little curly antennas stuck to their cars. I remember him being worried someone would steal the thing and he'd take it out for longer trips and carry it around with him lol. My stepdad was brave enough to get a cell phone. It was huge and bulky and I have no idea where people even put those things. When I used to have to walk home at night alone, I would take it with me for protection just from the sheer weight of the thing LOL! It's amazing how we've progressed from cars and bulky bricks to cellular boosters and smart phones. The thing that isn't so good for him is that he often gets debilitating migraines and can't function at all, only made worse by the pressure while flying. This last trip was pretty good for him though, he had to go to Texas and was able to locate a Dallas migraine center or specialty place and got some treatment while he was there. Hopefully that will help make things a little easier for him, I know he doesn't want to slow down anymore than he has to and the migraines just made things that much slower for a fast-paced person.

Almost Back

I have been going through a lot of health issues lately, mostly because right now I have no immune system at all. I'm always run down and can't find the energy to do a lot of things and always end up needing to take a break every few minutes. My stepdaughter brought home a cold of some sort and of course I ended up with it, as did her dad and possibly now No-No. I'm wanting to bet that it's coming back around the house now that we're all almost over it and she seems to just be getting it. I definitely got it the worst though. It took about a week to come on fully and since then I've hardly been able to move. I'm finally starting to get a little better and was able to catch up on a lot of things today, most of which needs to be finished tomorrow lol. Oh well, at least I'm sort of getting back to my normal self.

Computer Kids

I never really thought that my kids would be playing with computers at the age they are, let alone owning one. I've come to realize that it would be a really good idea considering how our lives have changed recently. Having everything in one spot and being able to travel lighter with it would be amazing. No-No wouldn't be scratching up all of her DVDs anymore and she would be able to play the games that she loves too. We had wanted to get them new tablets for Christmas but the prices didn't work with our budgets then. Now there is a new blackberry tablet that does a lot of awesome for a lower price. Hopefully we can afford something soon so we can put away all of the clutter.

Family Visit

My family is planning to come out for a visit this spring. I'm really excited but I'm also grateful that they are willing to drive out here so they can bring me some more of my things. Now that I will be needing a bunch of the baby things I left behind, it's a welcome gift. I'm not sure how they plan to transport themselves and my stuff yet. I know they were looking into renting an RV but I'm not sure what the cost would be without getting an rv insurance quote. I think that would probably be the most comfortable way for them to travel though.

Vactions

I never really realized how many of my mid-west friends vacationed in the Carolinas until I moved here. One of my very close friends is looking for southern shores real estate so that she can have a vacation home there. I have never been there or anywhere in those states and think the trip would be interesting. When I was young my grandma used to constantly tell me how lucky I was to have the things I did because she was lucky to have even a doll. When I was young it was still a mixture of dolls, creative play, and yoyo toys. Now my children are playing with gadgets and computer type toys. The dolls and things still stand but don't seem to compete. It makes me wonder what their children will be playing with.

Mother’s Day gift

Guest post written by my buddy Brian Workman

I was using www.expertsatellite.com to get a new channel package for my wife for Mother’s Day. I wanted to get some channels we did not already have that I knew she would love. A couple of my friends said they thought it was not the best gift idea in the world, but I thought it would be nice to set it up without her know. She usually handles the bills, TV and all of the fun stuff. I just get to use everything. So, I thought it would be nice to try to do some of the not so fun stuff for her. I cleaned the kitchen and the next step was to surprise her with the bills being paid and some new channels, just for her. I was looking at the Lifetime network for her. I am not sure she would be into all of the movies and shows they have, but it seems like some of them are definite girl shows. She always watches shows like Grey’s Anatomy, so I was thinking that Lifetime might have things similar. I have heard some of the shows are a bit dramatic, but I guess if she does not like it, she does not have to watch it.

A Special Gift

I'm always stumped at what to get my grandma when it comes to gifts. Her condition is worsening so that makes it even harder, half the time I'm not sure if she even remembers who we are. One year I had No-No paint her a canvas and another year it was clothing she could use, not incredibly special. This year I thought I'd try something different. She was born in 1927 and always liked to collect any sort of special coin, so I thought I'd get her some 1927 silver dollars and see if they could spark a memory or two in her. I think she would appreciate them regardless but it would be fun if she started to recall things along with it.

Packing Up!

We're busy bees over here this week...we're headed to CA on Thursday! I'm so excited, I can't wait. I miss home and turned out to be a lot more homesick than I had originally thought I would be.

So far we've had to order almost all of the presents online, decide what is going where, and now it's cleaning and packing. Just trying to eat is almost a challenge right now since we don't want to overload the fridge with things we'll just have to throw out later. Things have been crazy and probably won't calm down until we are headed to the airport but knowing I'll finally be able to not have to worry about cooking is totally worth it!

Hoping for a Redo

It's kind of sad that our first holidays together haven't been all the best this year. With money the way it is, we've just been trying to make sure the kids are happy. I have a feeling that my boyfriend has been stashing money away for a gift for me though. I'm not sure what it'll be but being a girl, of course I'm hoping for jewelry LOL. At least he's in luck, I'm not at all picky and just about anything to show he cares will do. In my opinion, he does more than enough on a daily basis to begin with.

TV!

I am SO happy! We finally have TV in the house. I never really realized how much I took watching TV for granted, but I did. Before I moved, the only reason I would have one on was to have some sort of background noise. Being here and not having that was starting to drive me crazy LOL. Added to that, there are lots of shows that I would have liked to watch but they weren't available online. Now the one thing we need is a TV in the bedroom so I can relax a little when it's just me. No-No was lucky enough to have a TV in her room already and all we needed for her was some tv video cables to rewire everything for her. The poor thing doesn't have much by way of anything and she is definitely lacking in the girly room department. The thing that makes it slightly more challenging is that her dad likes to have higher quality things but that won't be too hard considering I'm always looking for a deal. I found a site that has a great listing of pottery barn coupons and a bunch of others. I love shopping so hopefully we can get the funds together and give her an awesome room without spending a ton of money!

Passie Away!

It's kind of a sensitive subject when it comes to pacifiers and child age, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were some who would be semi upset with this post. I'm very happy to announce that after a looooooong 4 1/2 years, No-No has finally given up hers! Well, it was rather involuntary and we're still going through it, but it's finally night two of her sleeping without it. There are so many positive things about me moving on from the ex, and this is one of them. She has developed so much since my BF came into the picture, i can't wait to see where she goes from here!

Football Tastes

Guest post written by my buddy Fidel Hernandez

My husband and I have the same taste in TV which is to say that we like the same Direct TV Packages. He got lucky with me though because I love football and I don’t think most women do…at least not to my extent. There’s something about a fall Saturday when the pigskin is going and there’s chili on the stove that makes me feel alive and I know he feels the same way. I’m so glad we get all the games at home so we don’t have to go to any sportsbar or anything and our friends like it, too. They’re always piling in on Saturdays to watch with us which is so fun – and we don’t even have to leave the house to socialize and get friend points! I can’t wait until we have a child someday and get to teach him or her how to play the game. And if it’s a girl at least I can hope that she’ll grow up to be a football cheerleader someday!

Knee Deep

I've done it again, I've gotten myself into a really bad financial position right before Christmas. I have no idea how I end up doing this every year, but it never seems to fail. I know this time was due to all my traveling during the earlier part of the year and every year the reason seems to change. This time I'm thinking about using one of those debt collection agencies because I always have a heck of a time trying to keep up with things, plus it will probably save me money having someone negotiate payments for me rather than trying only to not be able to afford it and get another fee. I hope I can get out of this mess soon, having it hang over your head is really a downer.

Uniform

My friend is an OT and she is so funny with her scrubs. Not all do, and there are a lot of females that do too. My friend is one of them. When she started driving, she had to make sure that she could match up to the best of them and got one of the cars she's always wanted with a top of the line system that she put together herself. It was awesome having as much bass in the trunk as some of the guys we would pass, while we blasted our ears out lol. I can't remember what she had, they could have been altec lansing speakers but I'm really not sure. Not at all easy with the holidays coming up, but I know it will all work out okay. It does put some things into perspective though, and it's making me think about things in the long-term. I've always kept the healthcare field open in the back of my mind as a possible career option in case I need a fall back. There is a hospital nearby and I head that they are always looking for people to fill Medical Equipment Repairer Jobs. I've always been pretty good with things like that and I'm sure it's something I might be interested in, so it's something to keep in mind. I'm sure that eventually I'll have to be looking for work outside the home, that wouldn't be all too bad.

Changes...

Things are so different around here that I've had to change almost every habit I've been accustomed to for as long as I can remember. Most of my shopping has to be done online now, there is only one small grocery store nearby, so all of my dishes revolve around whatever they have that looks good at the time...things like that. It's definitely taking some time to get used to, but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I think I'll get the hang of it after some time, but until then it's still quite the learning process.

Getting Around

Not having a car is posing to be a bit of a problem way out here. Back home we have all sorts of transportation options, but here there really isn't anything close to it. We are currently saving up for a car and hopefully we can make it happen before the winter freezes hit. I can't imagine what that weather will be like. I'm not sure how easy it is, but we may try going for a loan instead of waiting. A friend of mine said it was pretty good for her to get car title loans Georgia, so hopefully things work out for us here.

Furture Plans

There are so many things that my bf and I have talked about recently. Starting a new family out of something pre-exisiting isn't as easy as one would imagine. There are all sorts of things to combine and change now. One of the things we need to look at is insurance, all forms of it. Right now it's kind of a pain but we found a site called www.wholesaleinsurance.net that helped out with a lot of the questions we had. Now it's just a matter of doing it all. It will all come together at some point, at least we know that much.

Here Comes the Sun

The weather has been so weird lately. One day it can be a hot and sunny 90 degrees and the next it will turn out to be a cold 50 something with really thick fog. Matter of fact, last week there was a 93 day followed by a 54 and huge thunderstorms the next. It's just crazy! I love when we actually do have a perfect 70 something day and we can go out comfortably, I just throw on my ray ban sunglasses and go. I know there aren't many days like that here and we are definitely happy when there are. As it is, we're already gearing up for winter. Being a transplant isn't always too fun, but it makes for an adventure, that's for sure lol.
