I’ve completed part one of my legs project. I’m presenting it tonight in class. I’ve got butterflies. Oy.

In my latest class, the instructor is asking us to produce approximately 10 images on any theme for a show this fall. It sounds easy enough, right?

I’m trying to push myself. That is the point of taking these courses after all! Last night we were to present our ideas to the class & finalize our subject.

Late yesterday afternoon I was still wavering. Nothing seemed to be right, either more of the status quo or a vague idea that I didn’t totally love.

While driving with my son, I was trying to do some free association. Brain storming with a four year old, I never thought I’d be that desperate! We were stopped at a light when my son saw some cows. I rolled down our windows to get a better view and I was enamored by their knobby knees. That’s when it hit me…

“Legs!”

Suddenly all kinds of ideas started flowing in my head… People legs, animal legs, legs of furniture, legs of triangles… All kinds of possibilities!

After far too much brain wrangling, I have a theme! Yahoo! So if I approach you with an idea about photographing you or a loved one’s legs… You’ll understand why!

This morning I had that pleasure of photographing little Hannah, just 7 days old. I know so many people say this, but little Hannah Banana really is the perfect baby. SHE SLEEPS. SO MUCH! I was able to take my time and move her just about any ole way. Very cooperative.

My heart pangs for a little girl.  This is too much for me!

A few weeks ago my son celebrated his 4th birthday. Like most boys his age, he’s obsessed with any form of transportation – cars, trucks, trains, planes. My husband had the great idea to give him an electric Jeep for his birthday. The boy *loved* it.

I have a group of girlfriends from high school who try to get together every year or so and visit some strange land. Well, not really strange… just some place we’ve not been before. One of these girlfriends has an affection for Elvis so we decided to make a pilgrimage to Graceland & Memphis.

I continue to spurn the big hunky digital, and traveled only with my Holga & my iPhone. Haven’t had an opportunity to drop off my film, so here is a brief slideshow of some of the “best” iPhone images.

Today I got to photograph one of my favorite little girls and her mum (who is expecting) & dad.  So.Much.Fun.

I had a hard time choosing what to post; there were so many great shots. Here are couple of sneak peaks… ENJOY!

A quick holiday always means a “mini” project…I set out to capture some “Quintessentially Texas” images in colour on my Holga.  Unfortunately, Helga is a finicky minx and all of the indoor images I took were black.  A terrible disappointment, for certain.  But, getting to learn the intricacies of Helga was something I really wanted to accomplish this year, so I will chalk it up as a learning experience.

Until I am able to get a proper scan of the images I was able to capture, I invite you to enjoy some images I took on my iPhone.

I started taking classes at the School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa (SPAO) almost 3 years ago.  Initially it was more about getting out of the house than it was the desire to hone my photographic skills, but as I continued my studies, I have really enjoyed the process.  The classes force me out of my comfort zone & have made me do more experimenting.  I need that creative outlet; I go a little stir crazy without it.

Back in November, I decided that I wanted to try my hand at some dark room work.  So in January I started taking the Back to Basics: Film course.  I got off to a rocky start; ruining my first roll of film due to improper spooling.  I have had better luck over the last month and have managed to make 3 successful test prints.

For those who care about these sort of things, these images were shot on my Holga (that I’ve nicknamed Helga) on Ilford FP4Plus 125 speed film.

I am traveling late this week and next… and since I have a need for little projects, I hope to have more images to share with you from Helga in the next few weeks.

Across the globe, people know hockey to be the great Canadian pasttime; there is no exception in this house.  Even being from Texas, I have been a hockey fan for years, well before I met my Canadian husband.  My husband and both of our boys play hockey, although at this point the youngest only plays hockey in the basement with his dad & brother.  It is ingrained in their brains and is a part of most of their days.  Our youngest still believes he’s going to grow up to be a hockey player… AND a goalie.  The dreams of an (almost) four year old.

This isn’t about the dreams of a child, it’s about the dreams of my husband.  When my husband was in his teens, he played in nets.  I’m not sure why he ever stopped, but as he got older and played in beer leagues, he usually played forward.  About a year ago, he decided to try to relive his childhood dream and go back in goal.  He has had a lot of fun in net… and two weeks ago he had his first shut out.  I was there to capture a few images & compiled them in a collage for him.
