Labels

Anyone wanting to start their own home business needs to put a lot of thought into branding. You want people to recognize you and your work. When you do any type of crafting business whether it is sewing or knitting or crocheting you want something that will identify you and that piece. So, labels become a necessity.

There are a ton of tutorials out there with different kinds of labels you can make and usually they are complicated or extremely time consuming. Me, I prefer something cheap and easy that I can get done in a timely manner.

Here's how I got these done...

I bought printable sheets of fabric from Joann Fabrics. The ones I got actually have a fusible side so you could iron them on if you wanted to do so. However, for knit products you probably want to avoid doing that.

Once I got home, I hopped onto Microsoft word. Here's where it got a little tricky. I simply typed out my name in a font. The one I used is the same one that is actually in my logo, but you can use whatever font you would like. Then I made four columns and copy and pasted my logo in enough times to fill the page. Make sure you double space these, as to have enough room to cut around your labels.

I then printed a test sheet, this is important as you don't want to waste your fabric sheets. After you know its how you want them to look, go ahead and print them out.

I personally like how the edges kind of fray a little. If you look closely at mine, you can see what I am talking about. If you don't like that, I would simply make the space around each logo larger and then stitch or even carefully burn the edges to seam them closed. I however skipped this step and simply took matching yarn and stitched the label right onto the hat.

This overall cost me less than $4!! Which is fantastic for anyone on a budget!

The final thing I would like to add though is I haven't tried to wash these. So beware before attaching them to something that will get frequently laundered.

There are hats like these all over the internet, especially Pinterest. This is just my version. I love the way this purple seems to pop! There will be a pattern for this coming soon. I just need to finish drafting everything up and getting it rolling.
Well seems like since Pinterest has been all the craze lately, I haven't really shown anything from my Ravelry queue. Well, here is a look inside.

Snuggly Wuggly Booties: I love these. But I would make a few minor adjustments and turn these into some loafers.

Butterfly Hat Pattern: I am absolutely loving this pattern. It isn't your run of the mill beanie. I am definitely going to be trying this at some point!

I have made a Viking hat before, but this one is just so incredibly tiny! This was made for a friend who recently had a baby boy. Still I love the design behind this hat. I think it's so cute for a little man.

Brown Boots: I love these little boots. They look like something I would want as an adult!

Cream Bobble Hat: I love this hat!!! I have really been into the hats that are knit vertically lately. Maybe I just find them fascinating. Either way, I think this hat could be for either gender depending on what color in which you decide to knit.

I love and adore baby photo props. I think they are so much fun because you can be as creative as possible! My newest piece is this monkey suit.

I used an absolutely fantastic yarn that gave it the dimension in color as well as the fuzzy look it has to it. I really think it looks fantastic in pictures!

But my favorite part about this is the diaper cover. Who doesn't just love that cute little tail? Unfortunately it also was the most irritating about crocheting up this piece. Still I think the turnout was fantastic.

Hopefully, I will see some pictures of this piece on a baby soon!

Just one very special pin this week. I am, like most of the country, obsessed with the Hunger Games trilogy. With the movie opening this past week, I thought I would pay tribute to one of the best book series I have ever read.

You can find the chart for this on Ravelry and use any hat pattern. I also think it would look great as a flap on a messenger bag.

These great little sandals were all the crazy on Pinterest for awhile. At first, I was on the fence about whether or not I liked these. Mostly because I wasn't sure how practical they were. Although, I suppose at the end of the day, babies don't walk so they don't exactly need to have the bottom of their feet covered.

However, after making them I definitely see their charm. They are completely adorable and look great on babies. These would make a great gift for someone who is having a baby girl.

I had previously posted about different Fedora patterns here. I finally got around to making one.

This one sadly, wasn't for me. It was made for a newborn. This was a very easy pattern and a fairly quick project. You can find the pattern I used on Etsy. I would recommend checking out the shop. There are some pretty cool patterns there.

Crocodile Stitch Booties

I instantly fell in love with these Crocodile Baby Booties when I first saw them.

My pictures aren't nearly as cute as hers or as professional but in person they actually look very similar. The pattern was really easy to follow and was a quick project.

Seeing the difference in the pictures made me realize I either need a new camera, or some photography lessons. Probably the latter.

Either way, I would SO recommend this pattern.

Here is another photo prop I did for a friend. This is such a great pattern, unfortunately I don't readily have access to a baby to snap photos of in these.

This is actaully a Snassy Crafter pattern. You can click on the link to go to the pattern on Etsy.

This was a fairly easy pattern to follow and I must say my favorite part was the pink bunny poof tail. It just adds a little pop of color and cuteness something like this needs.

Well, I am still on a baby kick. It seems as though I am hitting an age where many of my friends are having babies. Last week I basically showed you all things for a little girl. I should probably shake things up and do a few cute boy ideas.

I absolutely love the photo props that are so commonly used now. It basically gives you a reason to be a little wild and outlandish and everyone thinks it's awesome. Such as the case with something like this pea pod.

The unfortunate part is I really didn't take note of exactly how I did this. For the cocoon I know I basically used a pattern from Busy Mom. This was something I did during a TV night with my mom and sister, which means I wasn't very good at writing down my patterns. I may go back and do another one of these so I can share!

Here is another one of my silent auction hats. This is my favorite out of all the hats I made for the auction. It was also very easy and quick to make.

Other Items: white ribbon, fabric pen or puff paint
As many of you know, I have done a series called Reveling in Ravelry. I posted cute things that I found on Ravelry just to spread the wealth of the things that I have found. Now all the craze is Pinterest. I have seen so many cute things that have inspired my projects and have found their way onto my pin boards. So here is the first edition of a sister series, Peruse my Pinterest.

This is another hat that I did for the silent auction donations. I used the pattern for the Curly Q hat, didn't add the scallop edging and added a flower to the side. (click on the word flower to get the link to the flower instructions)

The best part about making simple hats, is that it allows for you to be creative with what you add to them. It really makes the additions stand out!

I did a few hats to donate to a silent auction at my church. This is one of the hats that I whipped up. I tried to do things that were cute, yet really pretty easy to do. So this is a newborn beanie with scalloped edging and the curly q's on the top. You can use any size beanie, the pattern posted below is the one I used. It is for a newborn.

Curly Q Baby Hat

Hook: Sz K

Yarn: At least 4 colors worsted weight yarn

Round 1: Ch 1, 6 sc in chain

Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around to end of round (12 sts) place marker

Round 3: 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, till marker (18 sts)

Round 4: 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 sc in next sc, till marker (24 sts)

Round 5: 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, 2 sc in next sc, till marker (30 sts)

Round 6: 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts, 2 sc in next sc, till marker (36 sts)

Round 7: 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts, 2 sc in next sc, till marker (42 sts)

Round 8-14: SC to end of round

Round 15: Change color so show scalloped edge. SC in first st, 3 DC in next st, repeat till end of the round. Tie off

Now it's time to make the Curly Qs for the top. I made two of each color but you can add more. I also played around with the length. Have fun with this and be creative!

Use K hook and ch 15 for a shorter one, 25 for a longer curl

V- stitch: SC into 2nd chain from hook, ch 1, SC back into same ch, ch 1. Do this down the whole chain and it will begin to curl like it does in the picture.

Attach the curls to the top of the hat. And there you have it!

I love my kindle. I am actually a little obsessed with my kindle. I literally carry it everywhere with me in my purse. I do appreciate the love for actually holding a book in your hands and all that, but can't beat convenience. However, the accessories can get a little expensive. So I thought I may as well put my talents to good use. And out of that came this...

Unfortunately, I lost my phone this past weekend. Along with it were the instructions for that pattern for this case. So I am going to have to try and remember as best as I can what I did.

Kindle Case Pattern

Hook: Sz M

Yarn: I used a bulky weight and a worsted weight held together both were bought at a yarn shop and didn't have labels on them, so this is really more of an estimate

Large button or whatever you wish to use to close to case

This pattern in worked off one chain then connected into a round

Ch 9

Round 1: DC into third ch from hook, on DC in each ch till end of the row, add two more DC into the last chain (3 total in that ch) Now DC in each ch back down the ch making your stitches on the opposite side you worked on your way down. When you get to the last stitch on this row SS to connect to the first stitch. (You should have 16 stitches, 7 along both sides and one extra on one end and your two chains counts as the final stitch)

Round 2-9: Ch 2, one DC into each st all the way around. SS to join. (this was one of the numbers I really couldn't remember. You will want to adjust the number of rows depending on which kindle you have.

When you get to the tenth row you won't be working in a round but you will be making a flap to close the case.

Row 10: Ch 2. Skip one Dc in next stitch, DC in each of the next 4 sts, SS in next st. (6 sts remaining)

Row 11: Ch 2 Skip one Dc in next stitch, DC in next two sts, SS in next st (4 sts remaining)

Row Twelve. ch 2, 2 DC in each of the 4 remaining sts. Tie off.

Attach button to the base of the case. There should be plenty of room to slide a button through and you won't need to do a buttonhole.

And now you have your own customized kindle case. These make excellent gifts, and the best part is they take under an hour to make if you work quickly! I made a few of these for gifts this past holiday season and they were a hit!

Enjoy!

I have had this yarn so long I have already finished projects with two out of the three skeins of yarn in these pictures!

I went to a local art fair with a friend over the summer and came out with nothing but yarn, go figure right?!

This yarn was my absolute favorite! I adore how the colors look when they are loosely knit with some big needles. I made a gorgeous cowl and headband from this one skein.

This was a maroon yarn I purchased because it is the school colors of the volleyball team I coach. I used this to make some adorable headbands!

This is the lone yarn yet to be used. I just couldn't help myself! I have a weakness for wool yarn for some weird reason. Plus, it was on clearance. How can you say no to that!

Unfortunately, I in the store the purple looked like royal blue. It was quite a surprise when I saw it again when I got home. Just shows how important lighting is to decide what color something truly is.

Soon there will be pictures up if the great pieces I made from these great skeins!

I made this hat for a friend that has her own photography business. She told me exactly what she wanted and this is what I came out of it. I must say I really love this hat. Probably not as much in real like but I like this as a photography prop. It's just charming and incredibly girlish.

I will be getting a pattern out for this hat, hopefully quite soon. I just wanted to get some pictures out, because I was so pleased with the outcome of this hat!
Honestly, it really just worked out that way. At any rate, I do have some new goals I want to accomplish within the next few months. I really was in quite a groove with my regular posting and even just my knitting in general. Then the fall came volleyball season followed by a trip to London and the holidays. People that blog every single day are horribly committed. Its quite impressive.

In the near future, I would like to get a shop set up. I have dabbled around in Etsy, but I just am not in love with it the way many people are. There is definite value in the marketing you can get from using such a popular website but then again I believe these boutiques have their own niche. I see these gorgeous little online boutiques that are just so adorable it makes me want to buy things I could easily make myself.

I also am looking into the possibility of my own site. Sorry Blogger but I may be bidding you adieu this year. Once again, I am would very much like a website that is mine, especially if I do open my own shop.

And finally, I will be posting more. Many people start blogging with these lofty ideas of posting every day or five days a week. It just for many people with a full time job just isn't possible. So I am committing to posting more. I have a few great hats I have made over the past few weeks that are very cute and I will hopefully be finishing up on the patterns soon.

As far as actual projects, I will get through an actually pair of socks! Not just one lonely sock. Two. A pair. That someone can actually wear. My sister knows of my sock problem and gave me a book that shows you how to knot two socks at once. I haven't really had the chance to delve into this book but I will soon.

So stay tuned!

Fierce but Friendly Dragon

This a really great pattern for a dragon. You can make him fierce or friendly. Or black or green. Or in my case navy and gold. Mine however looks quite strange right now as he only has a body and looks like a deformed snake. He will achieve a great look quite soon though.

However, he is for someone else so I can't really even name him. I guess I can't even say for sure it is a him and not a her. If this was my dragon, it would be a her and I would make her green and call her Saphira. Probably because I am in the middle of reading Eragon. Last month this would have been a Norbert.

I am actually really enjoying this pattern and I will hopefully have it done by the end of the week! You should definitely check out the pattern and make your own lovely little dragon.
