My inquiry along this line came into my mind as I am a member of the Book Blogs forum.

The problem with this forum is that I don’t have a book review blog. But I do find myself doing book reviews on several of my blogs.

If you are all familiar with the Ning Networks, you know that they have the option of adding your RSS feed to your personal profile page.

What I want is to know how to just have the book review posts show up.

While I was searching on how to do that (do I just add the category to the end of my feed???), I found out that I can and should add category feeds to my blogs.

I found the plugin Category Specific RSS came to from Tips and Tricks HQ.

And, for those who only want to subscribe to certain categories of any given blog, I found this great article on Peachpit.com.

And this one is pretty much invite only.

The Secret Blog Club (SBC) is a private blog collaboration for serious bloggers only.

Luckily for me, it is not exclusively to only the “gurus” of the blogging world and instead seeks to combine the experience of known blogger with the inquisitiveness of the newbie.

We also use the forum to teach best practices and the very best ways we can benefit each other. One of those is to work one-on-one with members to hone in on who their target audience is and how that audience would search for them

Attention Bloggers: You are missing out on subscribers.

Today, I speak for the subscribers. Most specifically, I speak for those of us who only subscribe by email.

I don’t care for the RSS subscriber.

In fact, after discovering that I could subscribe by email instead, I completely stopped using my RSS reader.

Completely.

And I am not the only one.

So, my question for you is…are you loosing potential subscribers by not having a distinct Subscribe by Email button?

I’ve decided to reorganize…or rather organize…the links in my sidebar so I do ask that you pardon my dust as I move a few things around in the next couple of weeks.

For one thing, I am separating the ads into the appropriate categories for your needs.

If you want to monetize your blog, then I will have the links just an easy click away.

Want free traffic? Great. I’m organizing the free (money, anyway. Be aware that most of them are time consuming.) traffic builders.

Oh, and in the honesty of full disclosure…allow me to reiterate that I do, indeed, derive some benefit from your joining (most) of the programs under me.

Personally, I don’t see the big deal as I joined most of the programs by clicking the link of a fellow blogger so it is the circle of life.

Those benefits can be increased traffic or financial or etc….

There…my behind is thoroughly covered! Lol.

Anyway…again…pardon my dust….

The moral of the posts is to be truthful and consistent with your blogs or you will definitely get a bad reputation.

If you don’t have a tried and true method of increasing seo, pagerank, etc., use statements such as this is what I’m testing.

That leaves a much better taste in one’s mouth than setting yourself up as a traffic guru and you only get 10 unique visits per day now doesn’t it…

And if you think that the real “gurus” aren’t checking you out thoroughly…well, you need to think again…..

Phew, I woke up yesterday with a message in my inbox that my email address was triggering their antivirus.

I rush right over and click onto my blog only to find out that Google has flagged it for having malware.

Reported Attack Site in bright red!

Scaaary.

I couldn’t even log into my wordpress account because of that big red malware scare.

Of course, I panicked thinking that my blog had been hacked.

Yet, I remained cool and just followed Google’s suggestion to go to Webmaster Central and run my Google Analytics.

This pointed me in the direction of a plugin (Reaction Buttons) that was being flagged.

Since I couldn’t log into WordPress to remove it, I logged into my webhost and then my webftp.

I deleted the plugin and submitted my blog for a review with Google.

After a nail biting night, I awoke to my blog being as good as new.

Yeah!

Let me tell you…I never want to go through all of that again.

Not to mention the money that I missed out on while my site was done.

Boo!

I was somewhat dismayed to see that it had a 48 hour time limit and I was already several hours beyond the deadline.

Excitement set in again when I clicked the link and received the $20 anyway.

And disappointment set in again when they asked me for credit card information in order to proceed to receive the free $20.

No bueno.

You see, you have to set a daily minimum spend of at least $5 to receive the free $20.

Then you have to enter a credit card number so that if you go over the $20 and do not cancel the $5 spending limit, then they will automatically charge your credit card.

Yeah, my days of believing that kind of behavior went out with the abuse of AOL.

I’m not saying Bidvertiser is a bad company.

I’m just saying that I’ve always found this kind of marketing technique a bit shady and its not only ineffectual to me as a consumer, I find it a bit off-setting.

Next time, Bidvertiser, just give me the $20 and if I see excellent results, trust me, further investment would have soon been forthcoming.

It works similarly to the Zemanta plugin, just without as many nifty options.

It can also work congruent with the Zemanata plugin if Zemanta fails to provide the image of your blogging dreams.

However, I would be remiss in warning you that having both can slow your backend posting load time way down so use judiciously.

As a matter of fact, close one prior to opening the other.

Trust me on this.

Unless, of course, you have all day….

If you neglected to take my advice and go with Dreamhost, then you may have already ran into the problem of not having enough bandwidth left to efficiently run your blog.

Unbeknownst to you, some of the problem may be coming from a plugin that is a CPU hog.

And worse than that, it can be a pan in the patootie or nearly impossible to determine if and which plugin is causing the problem.

That is, unless you install the PluginHogDetector.

(Yes, I am aware of the irony on installing yet another plugin to solve the problem!)

Following the steps of PluginHogDetector will significantly decrease the amount of time you’ll have to take in order to find the offensive plugin.

In the end, you could also save significant money with this free plugin as your hosting company will not have a reason to harrass you to upgrade your hostng plan or risk having a blank site until the next bandwidth reset.

Or, (fingers crossed for us both), you could determine that the cause is not plugins but a significant amount of traffic.

Let’s all hope for the latter.
