Imran Khan Katrina Kaif and Ali Zafar to perform live gigs

His absence at the music release of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has fuelled speculations of a rift with co-stars Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif. Ali Zafar laughs off the rumours, “I couldn’t be in Mumbai because I’m shooting a film here that’s partly set in London. But I will be in India on August 26 and

have a ‘live’ promotional concert scheduled for the next day with my co-stars. The plan is for Katrina, Imran and me to do a series of promotional concerts across the country.”

Ali, who has been missing from the promos so far will break in with a song, Madhubala… that goes on air today and has him tossing off glasses of bhaang and doing a rock Bhangra with ‘bro’ Imran and dulhan Katrina: “It’s a fun track that we shot over four days in Mumbai in sweltering June. Since I don’t drink, I didn’t touch the ‘bhaang’ but downed glasses of cold coffee. I lost four
pounds in four days.”

The song is sung by Ali himself who remembers it being mailed to him by music director Sohail Sen in Australia when he was there for a film festival . “It had been recorded by another singer. I sang it in my scale, half asleep, and sent it back,” he recalls, adding that initially they were going with a slower track. “But, after pack-up, when Imran, Katrina and I would sit together with Ali (director Ali Abbas Zafar) to discuss the film, both Katrina and I thought that we needed to go wilder on this song. So then, Ali opted for the fast-paced ‘Madhubala….’”

Ali admits to being a huge Dilip Kumar and Madhubala fan. You see a poster of their epic, Mughal-e-Azam in the song. “Madhubala was an iconic beauty who breathed romance on screen,” he eulogises. Is Katrina like her? “No way!” he exclaims. “She has her beauty and style!”

Ali would take his guitar on the sets and play and write songs between shots. Katrina confided that she too wanted to learn how to strum the guitar. “I taught her a few chords. She was a diligent student during the shoot but I don’t think she’s practiced much after that,” he says.

But the lessons came in handy when Katrina was filming her rock number. “I was the one who urged her to go in for a more grunge look as opposed to her usual squeaky clean appearance… Dark under eye make-up, leather and boots. It’s gone down well,” muses Ali.

There’s also talk that Ali wants to shoot the video of a song from his album Jhoom in the near future.in February. And wants to shoot some new music videos for it and is auditioning with that in mind. How about getting Katrina on board? Says Ali, “She’s promised to appear in my video if our film does the business I’ve predicted. It’s an achievable estimate and I was bang on with Tees Maar Khan earlier!”

Actresses vying for the same place in Bollywood can never be good friends. We know that. We also know about the many times leading ladies have had power struggles when cast in the same film. In fact, Kareena Kapoor had sworn of multiple heroine films some time back. However, fighting over a makeup artist is a first even in this industry with its more than generous share of catfights.

YRF discovery Anushka Sharma and the production house's current favourite Katrina Kaif have started this new genre of catfights. In an effort to prove who the winner was in a continuing power struggle, the two heroines have now pulled in their makeup artist in the middle.

On Sunday afternoon, Katrina Kaif created quite a stir within the production house having learnt that her makeup artist was ready to fly off to London for a two-day event with Anushka Sharma. Katrina, who had to finish the patch up shoot for her YRF film Mere Brother Ki Dulhann, put her foot down. She wanted her makeup man to make her look pretty and not fly out of the country.

A source from YRF revealed, "Subhash, the makeup artist has been working with Katrina since she did Maine Pyaar Kyon Kiya and the cameo in RGV's Sarkar. Of late, Subhash has also started working with Anushka Sharma.

Since Katrina hadn't hired him full time, it is the general thing to do among makeup artists to take up other assignments. Subhash had informed Katrina about his trip to London, 15 days back. He had told her that he was supposed to leave the country on the 8th of August with Anushka for a two-day event."

"However, Katrina on Sunday refused to let Subhash go for the assignment since she had some urgent patchwork shoot to finish on Monday.

Subhash informed Katrina and her manager Sandhya that he wouldn't be able to cancel his trip to London since he had already got the visa and the tickets in place. But Katrina just wouldn't let go of him. In fact, she called in the higher authorities," added the source.

Katrina approached the officials at Yash Raj Films since her shoot was for Mere Brother Ki Dulhann. She informed them that she wouldn't be able to complete the shoot of the remaining song if Anushka walks away with her makeup artist. "When Aditya Chopra learnt about it, he called up Anushka and asked her not to take the makeup artist Subhash along with her," said the source.

Having proved effectively who the bigger babe of B-town was, Katrina might have breathed easy. But the makeup artist did not.

The patch work shoot that led to the fight eventually got cancelled. And poor man Subhash lost his London assignment as well. "Anushka was very upset about having to go to London without a makeup man," said the source.

Explaining the Katrina-Anushka rivalry, another source said, "Anushka Sharma has been a YRF discovery. And Katrina is the hot favourite in the camp right now.

Apart from Mere Brother, she is also doing Yash Chopra's directorial next with Shah Rukh Khan. It is clearly a war for supremacy within the biggest production house of Bollywood." Katrina's make up man Subhash remained unavailable for comments.

Actress Katrina Kaif is nursing a foot injury after accidentally hurting herself on the sets of a film. However, that isn’t why the actress’s looking rather relaxed, with her feet propped up on a chair nearby as she enjoys watching the rain outside.

“It’s so much fun watching the rains from here instead of being caught in the traffic in a downpour outside trying to reach the sets on time,” she remarks. But we figure, that the actor hasn’t let the injury slow her down, instead, she’s taking it easy simply because she’s just wrapped up two of her films and has some time before she plunges into the next two. “Yes, luckily I got to put my feet up and enjoy for some time at least!” she smiles.

But while she relaxes, the buzz around her doing a Yash Chopra film with actor Salman Khan’s frenemy actor Shah Rukh Khan has been gaining momentum with tongues wagging about how it will affect her relationship with Salman.

“People try to look too hard searching for the fine print, but to be honest there are no issues about me doing a film with Shah Rukh or Salman or Imran (Khan) or Ranbir (Kapoor) or Hrithik (Roshan),” she says.

“I prefer leaving the personal equations out of the professional ones.” That also explains why she isn’t giving into the hue and cry being made about her intimate scenes with Hrithik in their forthcoming film. “What’s there to talk about that? It was a part of the scene, just like any other.”

Incidentally the film also sees her show off her adventurous streak. But Kaif points out that she’s hardly the sorts in real life.

“I’m not too much of an adventure sports freak actually. I did learn scuba diving for a couple of scenes, but can’t say I’d like to take it up again,” she laughs. What she’s also not keen on taking up for the moment is film production. “I’m not turning producer any time soon. Not even for Isabella (sister) who’s anyway still busy studying,” she clarifies.

“I don’t believe in saying ‘never’ but nothing’s happening on that front for now,” she says setting the record straight.

Katrina Kaif has been eager to foray into film production with the remake of a French movie that had left her bowled over.

The buzz about Katrina thinking of turning into a producer has been doing the rounds for quite some time now, but there’s been no progress towards that actor-to-producer transition because the film she wants to make is based on the 2006 French movie Priceless.

Katrina has reportedly been negotiating through her agents to buy the remake rights of Priceless, that starred the ‘Amelie’ girl Audrey Tautou and Gad Elmaleh.

However, reports say that repeated attempts by Katrina to approach the maker of the French film have drawn a blank. Apparently, they aren’t interested in selling the remake rights and Katrina has to contend with that.
