Baby Harper is such a ham and so ridiculously adorable! We met at her home for our session which is my favorite place to photograph babies, what better setting to capture memories of their first year than in their very own home? I had so much fun playing with her and capturing all her many goofy expressions… you know you can’t resist this face

I LOVE teeny tiny babies. LOVE them. In fact my little girl is only 9 months old and we are not planing on having any more kids but I STILL am already getting nostalgic for her squishy newborn “nap on mom all day” days… I LOVE babies. Seeing client’s babies is fun. Photographing babies is even more fun. But babies that are family that I can squeeze and cuddle and snuggle with for hours and hours? THE BEST!

My brother and his wife just had their first baby a few short weeks ago and I could not resist flying up to San Francisco to visit her ASAP. I only got to spend a few short days with her but I’m already in love (as are her mommy and daddy to be sure!) … I just wish she were closer so I could snuggle her more often.

I’ve been a mom now for close to 4 years and couldn’t wait to see my big brother as a dad. It’s just as absolutely heart-meltingly adorable as I was imagining it, even more so maybe. This daddy loves his baby girl!

My mom was up there while I was visiting as well… I think it’s safe to say SHE loves her new grand baby as well

Beautiful beautiful momma! We’ve been friends for over 10 years now so seeing her as a mommy was pretty amazingly special as well.

Congratulations Chris and Tara on the most beautiful little baby girl! I love her to pieces already and cannot wait til I can see her again!

March for Babies {my life}

I don’t always share all of my personal life on this blog, but 2011 was such a mix of blessings and hard times. Our beautiful daughter Edith was born in August and just a few short months later, 6 months ago today, my beautiful nephew Peyton Mark was born sleeping. It was a devastating loss for our whole family. My sister and her husband have been amazing and have decided not to let the sadness be the only thing that their son was remembered for, and to instead celebrate his life and memory in a positive way. When people asked what they could do to help after his passing my sister started looking into charities that she might like to have people donate to. She decided that the most fitting tribute would be to walk in the March of Dimes walk and raise money to support their cause.

The walk is coming up this Saturday and I am amazed and humbled by the extraordinary job that she and her friends and family have done of raising money for the cause. As of this morning team Peyton Mark has raised $13,000 for the March of Dimes! A-MAZ-ING! I am beyond proud of my sister and what she’s chosen to do as a response to his loss.

I will be proudly walking along in the march for babies and wearing my team Peyton Mark button this weekend. If you feel like donating to help our team you can go here to view my page. All the donations on my page are automatically added to the team page as well.

Allison I am SO proud of you and I am so proud to call you my sister. I cannot wait to walk with you this weekend!

My baby is growing {my life}

I realized the other day that not only were the latest photos of my baby Edith on the blog from several months ago, the latest ones that I had *taken* of her (other than food-covered highchair snapshots, which I do love!) were several months old as well. I figured it was probably time to take a few portraits of her since I have mountains of portraits of her big brother and sister when they were babies. I think it must be a hazard of being the third child…

In any case she was more than happy to get some one-on-one time with me and my camera while the big kids were napping. I can’t believe how big she’s gotten and how bright eyed and curious she always is. I love her absolutely to pieces!

I have “known” Stefany through an online mother of twins group since we were pregnant with (duh) our twins years and years ago. We both have babies *about* the same age and I feel like we have gone through so much together raising our kids, even though we’d never met face to face. I was SO excited to hear that she and her family would be making the trip to San Diego for their vacation this spring and even MORE excited when she asked if I’d be interested in taking some family portraits for them. Um… YES! Of course!

She warned me that the girls might be a bit shy but she had nothing to worry about. A + E were absolutely delightful and chatty and I had such a great time hearing all about their vacation and the things they’d gone to do and see. We had so much fun running on the beach, although once they got a taste of the cold water rushing onto their feet they much preferred the safety of the park up above!

I have so many favorites from this session it’s hard to choose just a few to blog, but here goes… don’t you just love this family?

I had SO much fun with you guys, thank you for coming out to play at the beach with me!

I still haven’t gotten through all of my old sessions that need to be blogged and so baby Harper’s newborn session hasn’t yet made it up here. I had the absolute joy of photographing little miss Harper and her family this morning and as I was looking through them I couldn’t help marveling at how much she’s grown in the last 8 months. There will definitely be more from this session coming to the blog soon but for now just a quick “then and now” sneak peek.

More from the pile of unblogged sessions from the last few months, a beautiful day at the beach (when is it NOT a beautiful day at the beach in San Diego?) I love the golden hour glow and the bright blue balloons that the family brought along for their shoot. Such a treat to spend an afternoon out in the sunshine doing what I love best!

I have so many blog posts waiting in the wings it’s about time I started posting them! Keep your eye out for lots of new babies and a few weddings as well… it’s been a long time but I’m finally out of maternity leave mode and that means LOTS of new posts (even if some of them are from long ago)!

Up first a maternity shoot from the summer – I have this lovely lady’s newborn session coming soon to the blog too..

Jason and Michelle wanted an outdoor shoot so we picked a location with lots of trees and some gorgeous glowing California golden hour light (of course!) They brought along a quilt that Michelle had made (she’s SO talented) and I just loved everything about this shoot. Isn’t she just the most gorgeous momma to be?

Welcome baby Edith {my life}

The last few months have been absolutely crazy for me. Not only did I deliver my beautiful baby girl (6 weeks early!) but our family also finally moved into our new home and my husband started his new job. It’s been a whirlwind to say the least. In the midst of it all it seems like absolutely everyone has been having their babies and there are a whole lineup of adorable squishy newborn faces that will be making their way onto the blog soon.

For now, however, here are some photos of my favorite of all the squishy newborn faces – my lovely daughter Edith Dianne. She was born on August 4th at 8:46 pm after a very speedy induction. My water broke when I was only 33 weeks along (apparently my babies don’t like to wait for their due dates!) I was allowed to keep her baking for one more week before the doctors decided that my risk of infection outweighed any potential risks of prematurity. So at 34 weeks exactly miss Edith made her way into the world. A miracle right from the start she was breathing and eating all on her own from day one. She roomed in with us at the hospital and came home just 48 hours after she was born. It was a shock to everyone since our twins were also born at 34 weeks exactly and needed 2 weeks in the NICU.

The first few photos are courtesy of Catie Stephens of vuefinder photography. She was with us through the entire birth process and hiring her was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Clearly photography is important to me and why not document one of the most important moments of your life? I’m pretty sure that the whole labor/delivery process would just blur into a haze after a few weeks (and certainly months/years) without photos but I’m so happy we’ll always be able to remember it thanks to Catie.

I’m so happy that we have moments like this forever… because while just after delivery wasn’t my most glamorous moment, it certainly was one of my most emotional and amazing moments. Absolutely worth remembering! I was so proud of myself after the delivery and I just kept saying “I did it!” over and over. My sister was in the room the whole time and my mom came just after she was born.

And a few more… some of our first “family portraits” after a night of rest and a shower!

But they don’t stay tiny forever… our little peanut has turned into a beautiful chubby baby already! Edith already weighs in at 8 pounds now at 7 weeks and looks more like this
