Welcome baby Edith {my life}

The last few months have been absolutely crazy for me. Not only did I deliver my beautiful baby girl (6 weeks early!) but our family also finally moved into our new home and my husband started his new job. It’s been a whirlwind to say the least. In the midst of it all it seems like absolutely everyone has been having their babies and there are a whole lineup of adorable squishy newborn faces that will be making their way onto the blog soon.

For now, however, here are some photos of my favorite of all the squishy newborn faces – my lovely daughter Edith Dianne. She was born on August 4th at 8:46 pm after a very speedy induction. My water broke when I was only 33 weeks along (apparently my babies don’t like to wait for their due dates!) I was allowed to keep her baking for one more week before the doctors decided that my risk of infection outweighed any potential risks of prematurity. So at 34 weeks exactly miss Edith made her way into the world. A miracle right from the start she was breathing and eating all on her own from day one. She roomed in with us at the hospital and came home just 48 hours after she was born. It was a shock to everyone since our twins were also born at 34 weeks exactly and needed 2 weeks in the NICU.

The first few photos are courtesy of Catie Stephens of vuefinder photography. She was with us through the entire birth process and hiring her was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Clearly photography is important to me and why not document one of the most important moments of your life? I’m pretty sure that the whole labor/delivery process would just blur into a haze after a few weeks (and certainly months/years) without photos but I’m so happy we’ll always be able to remember it thanks to Catie.

I’m so happy that we have moments like this forever… because while just after delivery wasn’t my most glamorous moment, it certainly was one of my most emotional and amazing moments. Absolutely worth remembering! I was so proud of myself after the delivery and I just kept saying “I did it!” over and over. My sister was in the room the whole time and my mom came just after she was born.

And a few more… some of our first “family portraits” after a night of rest and a shower!

But they don’t stay tiny forever… our little peanut has turned into a beautiful chubby baby already! Edith already weighs in at 8 pounds now at 7 weeks and looks more like this

Corynn & Chase {san diego engagement portraits}

Corynn and Chase are a ridiculously adorable couple! I was lucky enough to photograph Corynn’s sister Sarah’s wedding two years ago and was thrilled when I got an email from Corynn asking if I could do their wedding as well! Chase only made it into town a few days before the wedding so we had to put the engagement photos off until the last minute, but I was so excited that they still managed to fit the session into their busy pre-wedding schedule! Engagement photos are SUCH a great way for me to get to know a couple, and to get the couple used to being in front of the camera (something most couples don’t have a lot of experience with!)

We headed down to the La Costa resort in sunny north county San Diego for their session and it just happened to be the middle of a heat wave! We all thought we might melt but we made the best of it and had a blast despite the heat. Here are a few of my favorites, aren’t these two just adorable?!

Corynn and Chase already have their wedding (I showed you one sneak peek already!) and I can’t wait to blog all the gorgeous photos from their big day. Congrats you two!

Suzanne, Jay, Brooklyn & Brielle + 1 {Family Maternity Portraits}

I was so excited when I was contacted by Suzanne about shooting her family maternity session. Suzanne has twin girls who will be three years old just a few weeks before her due date with her newest addition – which just happens to be exactly the same as me and my kids. My little munchkins will be three just a few weeks after my due date as well. I couldn’t wait to meet her and her whole family and they didn’t disappoint! We headed to Newport to Balboa Peninsula for the shoot because Suzanne’s maternity shoot with the girls had been there and she thought it would be fun to recreate a few of the shots. Brielle was a little wary of the sand at first but once she warmed up she was jumping and grinning and ready for action. We had a great time! Here are a few of my favorites.

Happy Easter and some news {my life}

Happy belated Easter and more importantly happy spring! I must say the New England winter has seemed unending to this California girl and I’m glad that it’s finally warming up! I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend with loved ones.

If you follow my blog you’ve probably noticed that there hasn’t been much to follow lately. When my husband decided to do a year in graduate school all the way across the country we weren’t exactly sure what we were going to do with my business during that year. We decided to play it by ear and see how I felt. It turns out that being in a new city away from family and friends for a year, and taking care of two toddlers on top is a lot of work! I did shoot a few portrait sessions this year that never got blogged (sorry!) but for the most part I spent this last year focusing on family.

So on to the news… two bits of news in fact…

First off we are moving home! It seems like the school year has flown by and the kids and I are flying back to California in less than two weeks. I am so excited to get back to the sunshine and more importantly to my business and clients! This has been a long enough break and I’m so excited to start shooting more again (and just in time for beautiful spring/summer weather too!)

And the second bit of news… our family is expanding again! Part of the reason that I haven’t been feeling up to working as much this year is that I’m pregnant again and have been experiencing the first trimester slump. Now that I’m further along (20 weeks today!) I am feeling great and anxious to get moving again! Our next baby girl (just one this time!) is due in September and we can’t wait to meet her!

And now for a few Easter photos. My kiddos are getting so big! Where does the time go?!

Emiko, Luke & Eleanor {Family Portraits}

I met Emiko and Luke years ago when I was the second photographer at their wedding. I have kept in touch with Emiko since then and was so excited when I realized that not only would she still be in Massachusetts when we moved but she was pregnant as well! We were going to set up a newborn shoot for the beginning of August when I arrived. Apparently little Eleanor had other plans and decided to arrive early. She was born before I moved to town but we decided to do a family session anyways. Because how can you resist a face like this?! She’s just too cute!

We started out the session at their home and did a few of their daily “around the house” things just to get everyone warmed up and used to having the camera around. I love, love, love getting a chance to be invited into people’s homes and document their daily life in the way that I see it. It’s always such an absolute treat for me and this time was no different.

After some time indoors we went outside in search of some nice light and fall colors. I can’t believe how gorgeous the autumn here in New England is, it’s such a treat to see coming from California! Aren’t they the absolute most adorable family ever?! I love that they are always smiling!

I simply cannot resist a baby in a hood with ears. It’s impossible!

I’m back {my life}

I’m sure you noticed that the last post I wrote was in August (yikes!) and telling you I’d be “right back” after our move. Well here it is three months later and I am just now writing my first post back. Sorry!! The move was a lot more involved than I thought it would be and I’ve been so busy catching up with editing, album orders and just life in general that my poor blog has been suffering. I can’t wait to get caught up with all of the wonderful sessions and weddings that have gone un-blogged in my absence, so stay tuned! The first post will be coming later this evening.

And since I just really can’t stand to post without an image, here’s one of my munchkins from their birthday. Can you believe they are TWO years old?! They had their birthday right after we moved here and I still haven’t blogged the images. Those will be coming soon as well!

It’s finally here – MOVING DAY!! I know I haven’t talked about this much on the blog, I’m not really one for advertising big change before they happen. If you’ve contacted me lately to set up a session or book me for your upcoming wedding you probably got a message back saying that I was not available… so really you were one of the first to know. My family and I are moving to Boston for a year! Or rather not even a year, we’re back by June of 2011 so it’s not even a full 11 months. We’ll be back before you know it

My husband is going to be completing his master’s degree and as soon as he’s done we’re coming right back to southern California, so don’t you worry! I even have a fabulous wedding or two in the fall back in California so I won’t be gone forever. I will definitely continue to keep the blog updated while we’re gone with all the fall loveliness (can you believe it, we’re going to see a real FALL this year!) and all of the wonderful portrait sessions I have lined up out on the east coast so please do keep stopping by to see what I’m up to. I always love visitors

A lovely Maui Vacation {my life}

We’re home!! I suppose you were probably wondering where I’ve been for the last week. If you’ve emailed or called and left a message – don’t worry!! I’m getting back to everyone as quickly as I can. The fam and I were on a fantastic Hawaiian getaway vacation and I decided to make it a work-free trip. Lovely right?! Hawaii with toddlers is a little bit different than Hawaii as a teenager on a family vacation (think lots of bike rides and hikes) or Hawaii as a young couple (think lots of fruity drinks and drawn out sunset gazes) both of which are quite nice. With toddlers going on vacation is a bit of a marathon. How much can you do/see/experience while still attempting to maintain some semblance of a “schedule” for things like napping, bedtime and eating. I’m pretty impressed with how much we actually managed to do and how much fun we had at the same time. The kids were great on the flight and Ben and I even managed to get away for a date night one night. It was a marvelous trip. Here are a couple of quick vacation snapshots, just in case you need a vacation from your desk. Feel free to imagine yourself on ours.

We went to a goat farm (and learned that our less than 2 year old daughter loves goat cheese)

Went to the aquarium and farmers market and wore lots of cute matching Hawaiian outfits (well at least the twins did, not Ben and I )

Watched lots of gorgeous sunsets

Learned to love sunglasses and hats (is Amelia in sunglasses not the cutest thing EVER?!) and spent lots of quality time with family

Of course visited the beach and played in the sand

And did I mention the SUNSETS?! Sigh.

All in all an amazing vacation! I’m feeling refreshed and relaxed and excited to show you more of the gorgeous weddings and portraits yet to be blogged. Stay tuned!
