The movie directed by A.R Murugadoss, features Kajal Agarwal opposite Vijay. The movie was shot in Mumbai and buzz is that Vijay plays a tough cop who is also an encounter specialist.

Thuppaki, Mugamoodi and Masala Café's shooting is stalled following the stand-off between the Producers' Council and the FEFSI. With the pay issue between both these associations reaching its peak and there is a request for the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalitha to interfere and solve it, shootings of several films have come to a standstill.

UTV's CEO G Dhanajayan has said, "Shooting of our Tamil films Mugamoodi & Masala Cafe are stuck due to the strike. Hope a solution emerges soon as films are getting delayed."

Actor Vijay might have not been available in Chennai during the release of Nanban for his busy schedules of Thupakki. But now with accordance to the halt in shooting of all the movies, the actor has taken his tour across the districts of Tamil Nadu promoting his film Nanban.

Today, the actor visited the theatres – Archana and KG Theatres in Coimbatore and tomorrow will head to Tiruppur, where he will be available at Usha Theatre.

Nanban Equals Rajinis Enthiran Record?

Vijay's Shankar directed Nanban has been declared a super hit by the trade. As per trade sources the film has grossed approximately Rs 40 Crore in its first week (Jan 12 to 19). In Tamil Nadu it recorded almost 95 % opening in its first four days, which is extraordinary by any yardstick.

The film opened in nearly 625 screens in Tamil Nadu in its first two days (Jan 12 &13) without any opposition.
Nanban made merry and it helped the film to get the second biggest opening after Enthiran. By Pongal day, the film became steady at the box-office and the word-of-mouth started working to its advantage .

Says Asick Meera of Mariyam Pictures who purchased the TK area: "Nanban is running packed houses in 33 release stations and there is no drop so far. After Enthiran, Nanban is the only film which is drawing repeat audience and is going steady. The collections are on par with Enthiran first week collections and the film has netted Rs 2.75 Crores in its opening week, which is phenomenal by any yardstick."

Added Sivakumar of Cosmo Village Pictures, the distributor for Coimbatore & Nilgiri area: "We gave Nanban a very big release by opening in 70 screens and has netted an awesome Rs 5.20 Crore in the first week so far and has been drawing unprecedented crowds especially in small towns. What is remarkable is that the film has done excellent business at single screens as well as multiplexes, a feat which only Enthiran has managed in the recent past"

Nanban is also testimony to the fact that Vijay is one of the biggest stars in Tamil films with an assured opening. Shankar is the biggest brand in south cinema and the combo with Vijay worked wonders for the film.Family audiences took advantage of the long weekend to catch the faithful 3 Idiots remake. Gemini Film Circuit, the producers hit the bull's eye by releasing the film for Pongal which ensured the family audiences came in droves and the word of mouth promotions by the masses has worked well for the film.

Nanban Release on Pongal 2012

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s recent Diwali release Velayudham has turned out to be a great hit and biggest grosser for the year. Now, the expectations are very high for Vijay’s upcoming release Nanban, directed by Shankar. Nanban is all set and its release is confirmed to be during Pongal. Music for this is scored by Harris Jeyaraj.

The 48-secs teaser of the movie, Nanban has been released this week. The response it received is overwhelming. This teaser showcases the lead roles from funny scenes in the film with a peppy background score. It shows Vijay is back with his best performance, with his regular style of movies with good amount of romance and comedy.

The audio launch of the movie would be shortly scheduled in the coming weeks. The main trailer might also be released at the audio launch. Shankar is very confident and has made the movie slick and neat and has ensured not to tamper the originality of 3-Idiots.

Vijay said, ‘Nanban directed by Shankar is a remake of the Hindi movie, ‘3 idiots’, but one could feel Shankar’s unique stamp from the beginning till end. The director has given a new colour to 3 Idiots and I loved being part of the movie. Nanban will be a Pongal treat’, he says. He is confident that his Nanban will definitely rock.

Vijay has ensured that the movie has a good story base and his dream to work with ace director has also come true this time. Jeeva, Srikanth, Ileana, Sathyaraj play prominent roles in the movie.

The distributors are confident about their investment and are backing over Vijay, to bring in the crowds in Tamil Nadu and also in Andhra Pradesh. The Telugu dubbing of Nanban is in rapid progress.

Bollywood star Aamir Khan will be seen in Chennai at the audio launch of Tamil movie Nanban. The makers of the forthcoming film are putting their best efforts to bring in the actor to add more glamour for the music release function.

It is well-known that Nanban is a remake of Bollywood blockbuster movie 3 Idiots, which starred Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and Madhavan. So, roping in the Bollywood actor along with the creator of the original film, Raju Hirani for the function will be a good way of promoting the movie, Nanban, says a source from the production house. But it is not sure whether they have give their nods to attend the music release function.

Harris Jayaraj compositional music will hit the stands on December 14, in Chennai. It is said that the makers of the film have chosen Nehru Stadium to launch the audio of the upcoming Tamil movie.

A popular Tamil magazine conducted a poll to find out the most expected film of 2012. Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiyaan, Kamal Haasan’s Viwaroopam, Vijay’s Nanban, Ajith’s Billa 2, Arya’s Vettai, Silambarasan’s Vettai Mannan and Danush’s 3 were in fray to scale the first place.

Of all these films, Vijay’s Nanban reached the top spot with 1,19, 668 votes while Ajith’s Billa 2 followed it with 1,08,339 votes. Looks that these two are the hottest picks of 2012.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay starring Nanban's audio launch which was said to launch on Dec 14 is not happening it seems.

The reason is the film's production company Gemini Film Circuit who also will also be releasing Vikram's Rajapattai wanted a gap it seems. The production team which has scheduled Vikram's Rajapattai for a Dec 23rd release is busy with the final process of the film's release.

They say that Vijay's Nanban is a Mega venture and we want it to remain Big from the Audio launch so we have put it on hold for now. Once Vikram's Rajpattai sees it's day in the theaters we will move on to Nanban.

Nanban is directed by Shankar with Vijay, Jeeva, Srikanth, Illeana, Sathyaraj in the lead roles and is slated for a 2012 pongal release.

For fans of the Ilayathalapathy, here's some good news. We understand that Vijay might croon a song in his upcoming film with director A L Vijay, the music of which will be scored by G V Prakash.

Says the composer, "Vijay should sing for the film; I adore his voice and would love to use it." Not much has been disclosed about this project, which is likely to kickstart once the Ilayathalapathy gets done with Thuppaki and Vijay with Thaandavam.

Prakash is the latest one to join this crew, who has confirmed that he's thrilled to be composing for this prestigious project. Interestingly, the composer has a track record of making his heroes sing in their projects and it's expected that he'll get the Ilayathalapathy to sing as well.

After getting Vikram to sing a song for Madrassapattinam, he made him croon in Deiva Thiirumagal as well. And, for his latest film with Selvaraghavan, he got Dhanush to sing a couple of numbers, both of which have become a huge hit among audiences.

As reported earlier, after completing 'Thupaki' with AR Murugadoss and 'Yohan Adhyayam Ondru' with Gautham Vasudev Menon, Vijay will join hands with another leading filmmaker of Tamil cinema, Vijay of 'Madrasapattinam' and 'Deiva Thirumagal' fame.

"The director, who has just started Thaandavam with Vikram, is ready with a one-liner for the Ilayathalapathy. He will develop it into a full-fledged script after completing Thaandavam. Vijay is happy with the knot narrated to him by AL Vijay," sources tell us.

While other members of the cast and crew are yet to be finalized, GV Prakash Kumar, the lucky mascot of director Vijay, will compose music for this yet-to-be-titled venture. He is planning to make the top actor to sing a song in the film.

"Vijay has made a decision to work with top-notch directors alone in the coming years. His last venture Velayudham was helmed by Jayam Raja, while his next Nanban is by Shankar. And his forthcoming films are by Murugadoss, Gautham and AL Vijay," sources point out.
