Kawaii Kon 2010 wasn’t as good as the previous years. Why? To be honest…I don’t know, it could be because the first day of Kawaii Kon 2010 was on a school day. The other reason could be because of the economies financial standing point worsened this year. Who knows, it could be a matter of both or maybe people was just taking a break from Anime or they forgot….again who knows.

But even though there was a smaller number of attendee’s Kawaii Kon 2010, it did not fail to amaze us.

Special Events

We had Masakazu Morita (voice actor for Kurosaki Ichigo from Bleach) appear as a guest of honor along with Hideo Ishikawa (voice of Uchiha Itatchi from naruto) and Daisuke Kishio (Kaname Kuran from Vampire Knight).
The reason why that’s so special is because they’ve NEVER been to a convention outside of Japan until now!
Wait there’s more! We also had Johnny Yong Bosch (English Dub voice actor for Kurosaki Ichigo) appear as a guest and it was a thrill to see Johnny and Morita meet for the first time.

The Attendee’s

Kawaii kon is back! Hawaii’s one and only Anime Convention. This was the 3rd year for this show and the attendance numbers grew larger and larger.

Costume Contest History

Last year a 19 year old girl named Lauren Lee took the masters division title at Kawaii Kons Costume Contest for her rendition of Princess Tutu. She’s been making costumes for quite some time (Since 2003 I believe), so I’d say she’s pretty experienced.
Don’t get it twisted though, even though it may seem like everyone is “In it to win it”, that is totally not the case with Kawaii Kon, all the attendees and the competitiors just want to have a good time and meet new people. After all, Kawaii Kon is more of a “Community” than it is and Event.

Kawaii Kon 2007 Guests:

• Christine Auten (Voice Actress, ADV Films)
• Greg Ayres (Voice Actor)
• Steven Blum (Voice Actor)
• Luci Christian (Voice Actress)
• Emily DeJesus (Writer / Editor/ Manager, Studio Capsule)
• Robert DeJesus (Artist / Writer / Character Designer, Studio Capsule)
• Brittney Karbowski (Voice Actress)
• Vic Mignogna (Voice Actor)
• Monica Rial (Voice Actress)
• Chris Sabat (Voice Actor)
• Stephanie Sheh (Voice Actress)
• Mike Sinterniklaas (Voice Actor / Director, NYAV Post)
• David Williams (Sentai Filmworks)
• Travis Willingham (Voice Actor)

Kawaii Kon 2005 Creation

Kawaii Kon 2005: this is the start of Kawaii Kon in Hawaii. This is a memorable event due to a number of reasons;

1. The Anime scene is big or should I say HUGE in Hawaii…but marketers don’t know that. So for that reason nobody took the time to launch an Anime Expo in Hawaii. Sucks doesn’t it? All this time die-hard Anime fans and Gamers were pretty much locked in their caves with little to no people to relate to. So for that matter, if Kawaii Kon gets established, it will be Hawaii’s first and ONLY anime convention and we’d all get to see sunlight for the first time in years.

2. I’m pretty sure that if you were living in another state or country and you heard about an Anime convention hosted in Hawaii you’d most definitely be curious of how that would look like (I would picture a tiki hut filled with Crayon Shinchan, doremon and Naruto coconut cosplay dolls and we’d come to the Expo wearing nothing but a grass skirt and carrying a torch. Why a torch? Well, how else are we gonna light the bonfire? We have no electricity). Hey! I’m not saying that would be a bad thing though, I’d still rock the tiki skirt for the lulz.
Haters gonna hate

How Many People Attended On The First Day?

Marlon Stodghill gets interviewed by Honolulu Advertiser and he says ‘Anime comes in all shapes and sizes and genre. The granddaddy of all Anime conventions is held in Anaheim, California and draw in 25,000 people”.
Stodghill was expecting to draw in 500 people on the first day but they ended up drawing in 800 people which turned out great.
They didn’t even do any extreme advertising; they just sent a few flyers and launched a website.
