River Sava - from Ada Medjica to Ada Bridge

Finally a bit of nice weather to paddle! Even though it wasn't our first paddling this year, it was
the first time we brought the camera with us (ili along). Since the weather was quite moody we
decided not to travel too far away, so the choice fell on the Sava river which is practically in
our neighborhood. We chose the part behind Ada (river island), and given that Sava river was
not too rapid those days, we paddled upstream ‘till we reached Ada Medjica and from there we
paddled downstream, all the way to the new bridge (Ada Bridge). This route, of almost 10
km we took that day, looked like this...

Slajz - Place where priests do not come

The plan was quite simple ... Right across the bridge over the Danube, near the village Beska there is a combination of ponds and bayous surrounded by thick forests.The idea was to visit Arkanj. At the beginning of one of the river bayous is the place called "The end of the World", bohemian tavern without electricity and water. This is a place that is often being referred as "forgotten in time" and it is also a place where you can taste a superb fish meals. People call it "heaven on earth." Tavern can be seen even from the motorway but it's access way is through the village Kovilj. You can not miss. Going through to the very end, when you reach the end of asphalt road, you are there. When you see on each pole nest with storks, know that you are on the right track. We come to the water and being already accustomed to inconvenience, we expect some problems to occur. And there you go, kind gentleman approached us and said that the bayou in front of us is forbidden for paddling, actually restricted use of private water vehicles...

Brestovac - Omoljica through the river Ponjavica

As we have already visited rivers in our close neighborhood, we got the idea to get out of Belgrade and visit a river or a lake near enough for a half day trip and far enough to have a feeling that we have actually traveled somewhere. Also, we thought it would be interesting to find a river that connects two places and try to link them by paddling from one place to another. We have started to look through the map and after a while we have found exactly what we wanted. Omoljica-Banatski Brestovac through the river Ponjavica.

Male Vode - Turkish bayou

Lovely weather, nice sun, tie the boat, get the paddles, give direction to the gas and get straight to Turski dunavac (Turkish bayou)! You have not heard of the Turkish bayou? Maybe Male vode (Little river)? Not even that? However, neither have we, and it is only 15km from the center of the city. With the Internet, help from GPS, and a little bit of luck, we were on a dusty road, near the coast, hoping to find a suitable place to drop a kayak in the water. Thanks to the skillful hands of fishermen who already made a "infrastructure" we finally managed to put kayak into the water and start to paddle. While we were watching flow of the water we were already sweating. Knowing how hard it is to paddle the mainstream of the Danube River upstream, we wondered why we had at all done this, and thought that maybe it hadn’t been that smart to force our arms when the weather was hot like that.

Before I say anything I have to admit that, even if I live in Belgrade for 27 years I didn’t know there was a river in Borcha! In my 8th grade the regulatory in geography consisted from filling the blank map. It was scheduled but never kept due to bombardment (as well as any other classes), so for my lacking knowledge of national geography I can blame no one else but America. Although I already learned in school where do the merino sheep browse and how long is Mississippi river I was prevented from learning what browses in my own neighborhood and where can I wet my feet during a long hot summer.
