When sadness overwhelms me over all the places we failed to visit in Singapore due to our rather limited time, recalling our visit to the National Museum of Singapore sets everything right. Every memory is still very much vivid for it is not everyday that I get to enter a museum filled with such exquisite art collection.

What a location! I was ecstatic when I found out that our hotel was just a stone's throw away from one of the most prestigious museums in all of Singapore!

What made our trip extra memorable was the fact that a good number of art pieces from the Musee D'Orsay Paris were on exhibit even a month before our visit. Please allow me to take you on a guided tour of some of the things that made an impression on me during our visit to the National Museum of Singapore.

If you ask me, this particular design depicts both elements of realism and romanticism on several levels which I think is a lovely prelude to the Dreams & Reality Exhibit.

The most anticipated exhibit of the museum and the real reason we were there was to see Dreams & Reality: Masterpieces of Painting, Drawing & Photography from the Musee d'Orsay Paris running until February 5, 2012.

Originally, each ticket cost SGD 11 or PHP 380 but since R was an HSBC cardholder, we were able to purchase the tickets for half the price.

Audio guide for rent ( SGD 3 or PHP 102 each)

I can't help but be reminded of the audio guide lent to us at the Hiroshima Peace Museum a decade or so ago. Back then it was a huge cassette tape with matching headphone that I carried around which proved to be a dinosaur when I compared it to the i-pod-inspired audio guide we recently used at the National Museum of Singapore.

I asked Bala to learn how the audio guide worked so that he could teach me later on for I was busy snapping photos at that time.

When I heard the museum guide voice-over, I asked the Lord to grant me a similar project in the near future.

As the pamphlet specifically points out:

"This exhibition comprises 145 paintings, drawings and photographs from the collection of the Musee d'Orsay. The works span the period of 1848 to 1914- a period of profound change and contrast for France and Europe. Torn between the past and modernity, artists tried to reconcile the radical transformations they were witnessing and to redefine themselves. While some artists embraced contemporary life, others sought refuge in a heroic past, evoking scenes from literature, music and mythology. In dealing with modernity, some artists also confronted its harshness through the realistic presentation of violent struggles, while others found solace in solitude, exploring the mind, imagination and dreams."

It took some time for my eyes to adjust to the darkness. And since, flash photography was strictly prohibited inside the premises, I made sure to check my camera before any shot was made. Oh my goodness! I didn't want to be imprisoned just for that! Just kidding... You know how serious Singaporeans are when it comes to following the rules. That said, let's begin our virtual tour of the Dreams & Reality Exhibit.

Since this particular info card had a headphone icon, it meant that there was a corresponding voice-over explanation in the audio guide. How cool was that?

Siesta, 1889 by Hans Thoma (1839-1924)

Hans Thoma: One of Germany's outstanding painters of the 19th century who was interested in both plein-air and Renaissance inspired paintings as a contemporary expression.

The Knight of the Flowers, 1892 by Georges Rochegrosse (1853-1938)

This particular painting was inspired by Richard Wagner's opera Parsifal (1877-1882). It depicts the scene when Parsifal, the chaste hero, destined to find the Holy Grail and bring Good to triumph over Evil, has just struck down the castle guardians.

I was simply browsing through our Singapore memorabilia last Thursday night when I saw a shot I took straight from Cebu Pacific's In-Flight Magazine called Smile. One of the writers was raving about The Room Upstairs, a resto slash posh furniture store located at LRI Design Plaza. And when I realized that my voice-over recording the following day will also be held there, I told myself that I should definitely check the place out after work.

A good two hours later, I was strutting towards the resto and super excited to try one of their signature dishes. It turned out that the furniture pieces on display were off limits to any kind of photography which was really a downer considering the fact that I needed to present some form of ambiance to this blog story. It would have been great to show you how the furniture accents added another dimension to the whole dining experience.

Nevertheless, I completely forgot all about it when my order arrived 15 minutes later.

The Room Upstairs Bestseller: Tuyo Pesto (PHP 160)

Notice the finely chopped tuyo flakes?

Pasta cooked al dente coated with an amazing pesto sauce with just a hint of salty-sweet-spiciness. The deep, earthy flavor coming from the basil, garlic and nut mixture fuses beautifully with the tempered saltiness of the tuyo flakes. Served with a drizzle of olive oil and a piece of garlic bread, this dish truly deserves a spot in my list of most favorite pasta dishes of all time.

This drink is love, love, love! It was a refreshingly cool drink that truly deserved its bestseller status. Its very prominent lemongrass taste with a punch of caramel was truly amazing to the point that I actually thought that I could have 10 more and will still leave me craving for a lot more. That day, we were left famished after lingering at the picturesque KLCC Gardens to get that perfect shot with the famed Petronas Towers in the background. We arrived at the popular Jalan Alor district by cab to try out some authentic Malaysian cuisine. If not for my super kind blogger friend from Malaysia, Daniel of emotions, I wouldn't have known that such place even existed.

According to Ren, some fashionable looking people entered one of the restos and on Ren's prompting, we followed them and found out that they entered Choy Kee Resto.

Well, that got our attention. And this huge menu sealed the deal.

Once we've settled, we began perusing the menu. More fashionable people in fancy cars started coming in which made us think that Choy Kee must be the "it" place here in Jalan Alor.

I was told this menu featured some of their bestsellers that was why I concentrated on choosing which one Bala and Tutapel would like. One of the servers called the owner to assist us since she was the only one who spoke English. She was very kind and patient in describing to us what made each dish special in a way. After some time, we decided to have the following drinks and dishes.

Mama Lydz's Choice: The Very Flavorful Fish Ball Noodle (RM 6.50 or PHP 91.50)

A plethora of fish balls, bok choy and noodles in a sea of deeply flavorful soup topped with garlic and green onions.

Rolandito's Choice: The Rustic and Unique Dry Curry Chicken Noodle (RM 6.50 or PHP 91.50)

Egg noodles with soya and curry sauce topped with several curry chicken pieces and green onions. Served with lime and sambal.

Our Choice: Choy Kee's Signature Dish-Fish Head Noodle (Large: RM 7.50 or PHP 106)

Fried fish head with an irresistible crunch mixed with tofu and fresh veggies in a pool of mild tasting milk soup. I would have wanted the soup to have a sharper and deeper flavor though. The thin vermicelli noodles or beehon were okay but we found them hard to eat maybe because of their generous portion served in one lump. It took some effort on our part to cut them into bite-sized pieces and we can't help but think that if we chose the thick vermicelli noodles instead, we didn't have to put in so much effort in eating the dish. The fried fish head as well caused us further problems because it was quite risky to swallow bits and pieces of it even if we wanted to. If there's a next time, I would definitely go for the other three dishes instead of the Fish Head Noodle.

Ever since I tasted some delish Korean Snacks at Food Republic, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur late last year, my craving for Korean dishes was pushed to a whole new level.

Remember our beloved Gu Jun Pyo eating odeng and lots of it too during a rare male bonding time with Geum Jandi's father and brother in the hit K-Drama Boys Over Flowers?

To be honest, I was deeply fascinated that the writers of Boys Over Flowers made the rich and powerful Gu Jun Pyo finish off at least 30 sticks of odeng all at once. What's so special about this Korean snack anyway? Was it worth all the fanfare? For starters, I asked the kind stall vendor if they use authentic ingredients from Korea. He didn't only say yes but even showed me the frozen rice and fish cakes used for the tteokbokki and odeng respectively with Hanggul letters imprinted on the packaging. Since odeng is simply boiled fish cake, it didn't have that burst of flavors that deserved much fanfare. But because it was boiled just right, pretty firm in my opinion paired with a delicate tasting soup that's hot and heartifying, I found the odeng both satiating and gratifying.

I can understand that rice cakes are pretty expensive and I believe that's the reason why there was only a handful in the regular tteokbokki version. Nevertheless, the spicy nature of the dish is really the reason why many people are drawn to it, including me. The rice cakes were also firm and delish as expected while the sliced fish cakes or odeng added an earthy, rustic flavor to the dish. If only there were more rice cakes, then the dish would have been really amazing.

I remember that it was on a humid Wednesday morning in late November 2011, when I saw another side to Singapore that I never expected to see.

We were on our way to the Dreams & Reality Exhibit from the Musee D'Orsay being held at the National Museum of Singapore when I saw a familiar mode of transportation for Filipinos which I didn't expect to find in high-tech Singapore.

Pedicab for hire?

It's our beloved pedicab, trisikad or de padyak whichever way you want to call it! In Singapore, it is called trishaw, short for tricycle rickshaw, which is primarily used to show tourists the different cultural spots in Singapore including Chinatown and Little India. Trishaw tours normally last for 30 to 45 minutes and cost around SGD 25 or PHP 850. When I learned about this fact, I somehow had a renewed respect for our very own pedicab and our hardworking riders. I just wish though that Filipino riders will somehow experience the same kind of opportunities and respect being enjoyed by their Singaporean counterparts.

For Mama Lydz's birthday, I told Bala that we should buy a Tous les Jours cake for her. Originally, I wanted the Belgian cake but since it was no longer available that day, Bala chose another one.

I can't imagine that even the box portrays a degree of craftsmanship intrinsic of the store's identity.

Every Tous les Jours cake comes with a cake knife and candles set. Can you believe that?

Tous les Jours Mocha Crunch Cake (around PHP 600) Up to 8 slices.

Tada! It's the Tous les Jours Mocha Crunch Cake! Soft mocha chiffon cake is covered with a thick, very sweet mocha icing that gives the traditional birthday cake an extra kick thanks to its rhum flavored topping dotted with cashews, almonds and pistachios with an undeniable chocolate flair. If you're the type who finds birthday cakes delicious and nostalgic, you'll definitely find this artisan cake, pure heaven. Be forewarned though. The very sweet icing overpowers the entire cake which makes you stop at just one slice. For some reason, I wished we also bought Red Ribbon's Ube/Macapuno Cake which is normally our cake of choice during special occasions.

Tous Les Jours Rose Inspiration Fresh Cream Cake (PHP 498). Up to six slices.

But if you don't have a sweet tooth and you still want a Tous les Jours cake, then you might like their Rose Inspiration Fresh Cream Cake. Again, this variant is covered with thick icing but is more tangy thanks to the presence of yogurt.

An hour and a half before the cab picked us up from our hotel for the airport, we made our last trip to Tokyo Street at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur for some Shimino Japanese Crepes and of course some highly-innovative treats from Mochi Sweets.

I didn't buy much because I was informed that I needed to consume the mochi within the day.

It would have been great though if I purchased 1 box instead of just buying three pieces because the 2 mochi treats were flattened when I took them back to the Philippines. Since my tummy could just handle one piece and everyone else in the family was full, the two gorgeous mochi suffered in one of my carry-on luggage as a direct result.

I bought three variants: Green Tea, Blueberry Cream and Cream Chocolate.

So how did I find the famed mochi from Tokyo Street? Well, I thought that the mochi was sweet as expected but every bit of fun to eat because of its chewy nature and incredibly delightful filling. Although it reminded me of the buchi in some ways, the mochi has a finer consistency and a more elegant presentation. The incredibly delish filling is in itself a testament of Japanese ingenuity and exceptional artistry. Don't ever leave Tokyo Street without stopping by Mochi Sweets, you won't regret it.

You know what's coming of course. A music video pairing to go along with my JOTD. I chose not just one MV but two because like in the case of the Tipco Broccoli & Mixed Fruit Juice, I've been addicted to the drama and soundtrack of Material Queen! I consider it to be one of the glossiest Taiwanese series ever produced that can rival any Korean or Japanese production in terms of acting, international location shoots, costume design, music and cinematography among others.

I really didn't have to know that the costume design was done by Patricia Fields of the Sex & the City slash Devil Wears Prada fame because the drama had me at this photo! Nonetheless, those gorgeous dresses, shoes, bags and other accessories incorporated in the drama was taken to a whole new level by making the cast wear them in Paris-believed by some to be the most romantic city in the world!

If there's one song that has kept me mesmerized right this very minute, it's a cut from Vanness Wu's latest album C'es la V which was also used as one of the tracks in the drama. Having You Near opens with a melancholic violin passage followed shortly by an accompanying piano to produce one of the most haunting yet mellifluous musical strains I've ever heard. Vanness Wu's familiar baritone voice that first had me during his meteoric rise as part of the phenomenal F4 boy band, provided a nostalgic feel to the exquisite arrangement.

Light Dinner At Newton Circus Hawker Center in Singapore

Desserts before dinner? Yes, that was exactly the chronology of events during our first day in Singapore. Two hours earlier, we had pancakes and coffee designed with the adorable Peanuts characters on top at Charlie Brown Cafe Singapore at 313@Somerset.

Although we were still quite full, we decided to try out Newton Circus since it was the nearest hawker center from our hotel. As soon as we stepped foot on this place, we were welcomed by an exuberant bunch of touts who never left us until we found a seat and ordered food. Although the whole process was rather annoying, they were a jolly bunch and truly aimed to please. One of them even talked to Tutapel enthusiastically which made me smile and liked her a bit more.

My understanding is that Newton Circus is known for touts who solicit business for their respective stalls by following you wherever you go. Although they would emphasize that you are free to choose from whichever stall you like, they stick to you like jellyfish making the whole process rather troublesome. Despite this, they were some of the nicest, friendliest and jolliest vendors we have ever encountered in Singapore.

We tried these new soda flavors from Stall 71: Hup Lee Fruit Juice with the touts serving us every step of the way.

Stall 72: R&B Express sells amazing Satay and Popiah

Satay (minimum order of 10 sticks: around SGD 6 or PHP 200)

Satay from this stall was pure love! I love how it created a delightful burst of flavors in my mouth when I first bit into it and when dunked into the peanut sauce, the satay tasted even more flavorful and alive! It's a 5/5 in my book. Truly a must try!

Plain Po-piah (Min 2 Rolls: SGD 1.70 or PHP 88)

Reminiscent of our native delicacy, lumpiang sariwa, po-piah is also covered in a paper thin-like white wrapper that houses an array of ingredients including grated carrots, chopped peanuts, lettuce leaves, bean sprouts and pork bits, to name a few. This particular popiah had a unique taste perhaps because of the addition of some spices and ingredients inherent in the region. The sweet sauce added a degree of friendliness to the dish which made me grab for a whole lot more. It was a good thing that I ordered it because we weren't able to try the famed Sisters Crispy Popiah at Imbi Market when we went to Kuala Lumpur a few days later.

Although the hot soup was heartifying, I'm afraid there wasn't really anything unique about this dish so you won't really miss a lot if you skip this.

Somehow, things turned sour when the unpredictable Singapore weather struck time and time again coupled with the our unfamiliarity of the area which completely changed the direction of my blog story.

I can't get this scene out of mind ever since I saw it from episode 1 of Spy Myeongwol. Oh! How I wished that I too can ride this and somehow transcend myself into the movie.

But when we arrived at 9 PM, Sampan rides have been closed two and half hours earlier! I was already expecting this grim reality but when it actually transpired, I felt so incredibly sad that I felt the energy drifting from my body. Okay. This may sound a little bit too dramatic; but, if you're a K-Drama fan like I am, then you'll also feel the same way.

At Marina Bay Sands Singapore however an ordinary Sampan ride is elevated into a much grander scale that screams comfort and elegance from afar!

Perhaps you might be wondering how the Sampan Ride at Marina Bay Sands Singapore differs from another famous one, the Gondola Ride at the Venetian Macau? Well, aside from the fact that the sampan is on the rustic side while the gondola is more posh and elegant, there's no singing involved during the Sampan ride which is probably the reason why it costs much less than the Gondola ride's MOP 108 or PHP 600 (per ride) for adults and MOP 80 or PHP 440 (per ride) for kids.

Another reason why I got so disappointed was because we didn't make it to the last tour of the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark which is known all over the world for its iconic infinity pool constructed on a gravity-defying cantilever.

And of course, if you've seen Spy Myeongwol, I don't have to tell you that Eric Mun swam across this spectacular pool while Myeongwol desperately tried to get an autograph from him; but was blocked unexpectedly by several of Eric's bodyguards.

I've been craving for these skillfully crafted Tous les Jours cakes- that scream K-Drama from afar- for a few months now; but, I wanted to partner my first purchase with a really special occasion to make the experience more memorable. Christmas seemed to be a good enough reason so much so that I told my nieces Kathlynish and Kristina to come over to our place just for our cake tasting and stuff. When we arrived at SM The Block on Christmas eve however, my plan was shattered because Tous les Jours cakes were completely sold out!

New Year's eve came but my plan didn't materialize again for some reason. And since Valentine's Day seems to be a long wait, I finally bought my very first Tous les Jours Cake last Saturday. I realized that as long as I can share this sweet stuff with Bala and Tutapel, it too can be memorable even without the festivities associated with the holiday season.

As my mom used to say, this is "service deluxe!" I can't help but be a little impressed with this gadgets but Bala was quick to say that there's no reason to be because I paid for them too. Bala's pragmatic side struck again!

Tada! Presenting my very first Tous Les Jours Cake: Rose Inspiration Fresh Cream Cake! Doesn't it look so gorgeous and yummylicious? Nix, the ultra-kind and accommodating cake decorator at Tous les Jours suggested this bestseller because I wanted a small cake just for three which we can dig into after dinner that very night. I was also told that this particular cake is primarily made from yogurt so it requires immediate refrigeration within 2 hours after leaving the mall.

Even before dinner started, I began to eat my fair share of this mouthwatering delight!

See the delectable strawberry chiffon cake that completely jumps out of this photo? That's what I love most about this cake! It's chiffonilicious! Okay, I just made that word up. The cream is as rich as the cheesecake creams I've had before; but, certainly more tangy than usual primarily because of the presence of yogurt. The tiny round droplets on top are gelatin-like and sour and so is the powdered red topping which looks like paprika to me; but of course, it isn't. The best way to get the most of this cake's plethora of flavors and of course a share of those yummy fresh strawberries, is to eat all six layers at the same time! Don't forget to eat those brown thingies including the one on top with the TOUS LES JOURS brand because they are made from real chocolates. If you're not fond of matcha green tea, you might want to skip those green leaf decors because they are quite bitter, if you ask me.

Just in case you're interested, I'm wearing Revlon Luminista in Burgundy Brown.

I missed my old hairstyle inspired by Jennifer Aniston's beloved Rachel character from my favorite series Friends. Although Christ McMillan created this particular style years ago, I think that it is as hip as the day Rachel first sported the look in Season 2 of Friends. And with David's trademark blowout, I truly can't hide how delighted I was with this simple hairstyle change.

The day before, I had Ochado Bubble Milk Tea from the famed Tokyo Street at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. But of course that was not enough to complete my blog story on TS's Most Popular Treats.

And so I looked for Shimino which was listed down as a must-try treat at Tokyo Street according to some of the Malaysian blogs I've read before our trip. My understanding is that Shimino originated from and gained popularity in Harajuku, Japan because of its array of savory and crispy crepes that boast of over 26 freshly made combos! Let's take a peek at some of them:

My Shimino Japanese Crepe of Choice: Fresh Strawberry, Honey Topping with Ice Cream (RM 9.90 or PHP 138). It certainly tasted as good as I expected it to be. It had a very rich taste perhaps due to the addition of vanilla ice cream; but, the tangy taste coming from the fresh strawberries took away a certain degree of that milky richness resulting to a more harmonious and a more blended treat. I give it a 4.5 for taste; 5 for originality and 4.5 for the price. Don't forget to drop by Shimino Japanese Crepe the next time you visit Tokyo Street.

And when I found out about this unique food strip from some of the Malaysian blogs I've subscribed to, Tokyo Street won a spot in my list of must-see places in Kuala Lumpur. I thought that it was a nice way to be transported back to Japan and at the same time revel in Malaysian culture at its best.

When our Singapore Trip was finally confirmed, visiting the Asian Food Channel Store was on my list of Top Ten Must-See Places in the City. As an AFC fan, I thought that seeing it up close is the next best thing to viewing my favorite shows live. So after the family split-up after our three-hour pit-stop at the Dreams and Reality Exhibit at the National Museum of Singapore, Bala, Tutapel and myself proceeded to the Asian Food Channel.

We had quite an adventure before finding our destination for we made a couple of misguided calls. Instead of going to Orchard Central Mall, we went inside 313@Somerset Mall because according to what I've found out, AFC is near Somerset Station. As it turned out, everything was near Somerset Station! It was a good thing, Bala took charge once again and found the right mall.

As soon as I saw this familiar scene, my heart went a flutter. Before, I was just watching and wishing that I could see AFC up close. When it finally happened, everything seemed surreal. On this note, allow me to take you on a guided tour of the famed AFC Store at Orchard Central.

The store boasted of a number of flat TV screens that simultaneously showed the live programming of the Asian Food Channel.

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Bukit Bintang: A Fashion & Food Mecca

Hailed as the newest landmarks of the city, this beautiful 3.6 meter high Crystal Fountain has been attracting quite a number of photo ops from visitors ever since its launch in July 2010.

And who wouldn't be enthralled with this piece of creation when it was built with Luili or Chinese glass crystal whose history can be traced back to the 11th century BC? For this particular piece, Loretta Hui-Shan Yang, one of the most popular Luili artists in the world, featured on the three bowls, the Bloom of Hibiscus, Malaysia's national flower which depicts prosperity, passion and progression. The three bowls however symbolize Malaysia's multi-racial culture living harmoniously together with the bowl's ascending pattern representing the nation's growing aspirations. The fountain spewing water from all directions conveys a never-ending source of blessing and opulence.

Since its launch, this Crystal Fountain in front of Pavilion KL still holds the record for the tallest Liuli Crystal Fountain in Malaysia, according to the Malaysia book of Records.

What BreadTalk Transit Was Like At Somerset MRT Station in Singapore

I was told that in Singapore, riding the MRT is clearly the most convenient and most affordable way to go around as a tourist.

I now believe that to be true after going around Singapore aboard the MRT during our trip there last month. More than that, I was highly-impressed with their clean, well-maintained and modern facilities which almost looked like an airport, if you ask me.

I later found out that this particular store set-up was introduced by the management in 2010 as a quick stop for customers on the go. Since it required a smaller space and leaner staff, the management believes that it is the quickest, most effective way to saturate the city with the BreadTalk brand.

Wow! I can't believe they were selling floss there. Too bad I wasn't able to buy one! I thought that since there were a lot of BreadTalk branches around Singapore, I could just buy one anytime. But the idea totally slipped my mind afterwards.

What made our Kuala Lumpur trip extra cool for me was the fact that our hotel was surrounded by a number of boutique stores and malls, including the popular Pavilion Kuala Lumpur along Bukit Bintang.

Food Republic at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is synonymous with our mall food courts

The main difference lies in the fact that their food court featured an array of seemingly authentic international and Asian cuisines from both simple stall owners and big-time restaurateurs. And because of the many food choices in front of us, we didn't have a clue what to eat. When we could no longer ignore our percolating tummies, Rolandito, Ren and myself began to navigate the place overflowing with a myriad of dishes. Bala told me only one thing-to choose something that Tutapel will absolutely enjoy since he has been quite picky recently. Awwww! Sweet dada!

1st Choice: Ichiban Ramen at Food Republic, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

What I ordered for Bala and Tutapel: Delish Chicken Teriyaki Bento Set from Ichiban Ramen, Food Republic @ Pavilion Kuala Lumpur (RM 20 or PHP 280)

The Ichiban Ramen bento came with miso soup, Iced Green Tea and two seedless watermelon slices!

2nd Choice: Korean Cuisine at Food Republic, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

I was in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and yet I wanted to eat Korean. Funny, isn't it? Well, I planned on eating at this particular stall before hand and even researched about it well before our trip.

Dinner for one?

I already knew which to order from the very beginning. The only thing I wasn't prepared for was how to finish everything by myself since everybody was already full. Thank God for take-outs!

Japchae (RM 11.90 or PHP 166). A delicious medley of firm glass noodles, carrots, bell pepper julienne, shiitake mushrroms, onion slices topped with sesame seeds. I've always wanted to eat this dish ever since I saw Han Jeun, Song Hye Kyo's character cooked this in one of the scenes from the 2004 Korean drama Full House. And I wasn't disappointed at all. Somehow it reminded me of our favorite Pinoy dish Pancit Guisado but rather boasts of a strong shiitake taste, thicker noodles and more sauce than usual.

Each meal came with a side dish of radish kimchi and raw potato slices

I found the kimchi too spicy for me, although kimchi was supposed to taste like that. And the idea of eating raw potatoes didn't actually thrill me.

Tteokbokki (RM 12.50 or PHP 175). Long rice cake with carrots, boiled egg slices, green onion, fish strip and cabbage. The deep orange flavor warned me that this dish was indeed too spicy for comfort; but it was unexpectedly delicious as well! A dream come true for me because I've craved for this dish ever since I saw Yoon Eun Yeh's character from Goong or Princess Hours ate this heartily in an eatery with her classmates and Shin Goon.

Pa-Jeon or Korean-style Pancake (RM 8 or PHP112). A popular Korean snack consisting of flour batter, eggs, green onions/scallions and squid. Although a little bland at first, the myriad of textures found in this dish makes the succeeding bites interesting. In a rather strange way, the green onion stalks added freshness to the dish although if they were softer, they would have blended more with the pancake. I actually looked forward to eating this dish because it was always featured in some of the Korean dramas I've watched. In Coffee Prince for instance, one of the male cast members helped Yoon Eun Yeh's sister prepare this dish for their father's death anniversary.

3rd Choice: J.Co Donuts & Coffee at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

J. Pops Baby Donuts from J. Co Donuts & Coffee (RM 17 or PHP 238). For some reason, the donuts were not that sweet and unexpectedly creamier than our local variants. And for that, I'm looking forward to tasting more of their more popular flavors when they open their first branch here in the Philippines. According to Mrs. Martinez's Raves and Rants, the very first J. Co Donuts & Coffee will open at The Strip, SM Megamall on February 16, 2012!

4th Choice: Lavender Bakery at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

Lavender Bakery's Bamboo Charcoal Sand (RM 3.90 or PHP 55). I'm afraid I wasn't able to taste this one.

Lavender Bakery's Seaweed Tuna Spicy (RM 3.60 or PHP 50). I love this bread for it reminded me of Breadtalk's popular Fire Floss down to the core: Spicy yet equally delish!

Caught Up In The BonChon (Korean-style) Chicken & Happy Lemon Craze at Trinoma

Although I've heard of BonChon Chicken and Happy Lemon before, I've never really thought of trying these fast food joints until recently. Their long queues however have puzzled me for some time. And the only way to figure out what the craze is all about is by simply trying them out. I've managed to convince Bala, Tutapel and my persistent tummy to wait it out a bit until half of the eager diners exited the place- which took a really long while.

1st Pit Stop: BonChon Chicken. I've learned that Korean-style chicken is characterized by "a delicate crust, addictive seasoning and moist meat Koreans are devoted to," according to this New York Times article.

To put this to the test, I bought two orders of their original soy garlic glaze-one for Bala & Tutapel and one for me. What can I say? As soon as I tasted the chicken's sweet, thin, ultra-crisp crust that never seemed to get soft after every passing minute, I knew that it was love at first bite! The flavors were so rich and distinct from the other fried chickens I've tried before which was I think why I loved it so. It's just delightfully different--the seasoning, moist meat and the crust resonated with me long after we left the place. To be honest, I haven't stopped craving for BonChon ever since. Now, I understand why the place is a hit!

I finally settled for their bestseller: Happy Lemon Rock Salt and Cheese Cocoa. After the mandatory stirring to let the flavors meld together in perfect harmony, I sipped a little, then some more and before I knew it I've finished the cup in half! Oh! It was sooooo good!!! I loved how the salt revealed the creaminess of the cheese and the sweetness of the cocoa. The cheese topping even cut through the cocoa in such a delicate way making it really one amazing drink. And the best part was, Bala absolutely loved it! What more can I say?
