Liz: Vintage photo fun

2011-07-11T19:32:00.000-07:00

One of my favorite models called me a while back and needed new headshots. We met and shot in the alley behind my place, which has lots of rustic walls and fences. It's been a while so it's more than time for me to put up some pictures of her.

Workshop

2010-07-30T23:24:00.000-07:00

My amazing roommate bought me a 4-day workshop with commercial photographer Susan Anderson. It was on Creative Lighting for Portraits. I learned a ton, and kind of found my passion: action!

16 minutes, 369 photos.

Last weekend, I did something bold and a little crazy. I went down to the San Diego Harbor and sat on the Embarcadero for the 4th of July Fireworks. It was my first time photographing Fireworks, and though it did take a little fiddling with settings in the semi-dark, I got several shots that I like, and even a few that I love. Enjoy!

Kristy's Baby Shower

So the last few weeks, since the return from Cabo, have been rather photography-bare. I think I O.D.ed while there, and I've needed a break. But my good friend Dee asked me to photograph a baby shower she was throwing, and I was more than happy to oblige. Here are a few shots from that day.

One of the girls on my Cabo trip walking along the beach, and I got to photograph her! She's a lot of fun, a little camera shy, and slightly goofy. I had a blast!

The Beach, part 2

At night, I got some awesome shots of the city, thanks to the handy-dandy tripod my dad lent me.

Got to to go the beach 2 days in a row this weekend, and got some cool shots of scenery.

So about 20 years ago, my parents used to work at a Bible bookstore. These days the old staff of the now-defunct chain meets up once a year to catch up and fellowship. This year I caught some quick shots.

I had a lot of fun photographing this family. I hardly got any shots of the three of them together, because their little boy is SO active, and hates being restrained. He's super cute, though, and I'm glad I spent the time with them at Seaport Village

I'm finishing up this set with a filmstrip I made from a continuous shot I took. I love the look on this kid's face! Click on it for a larger version.

These next two are my favorites from the day. I love this little girl's intensity, and her mother's smile.

I call this one "The Sad Superhero". I love how upset this little boy is. He was afraid of me and my camera and tried to run away from me. It was super-cute, especially with his "cape".

Artwalk San Diego 2010

2010-04-28T21:46:00.000-07:00

Jewelry abounded at the Artwalk. I shot mostly from the hip, not even focusing or framing very much.

Somewhere in the midst of the city there is life budding. Is it just me or does this look like an embryo?

And with the life comes slow decay...

But beauty still abounds

After the Artwalk, I hung out with Josh. He took this photo with my camera.

The 'Vette is the main reason I hang out with him. Also, he pays for stuff. And he's fun.

And now, having sounded completely shallow, I make the following promise: my next shots will be considerably more thoughtful and prosaic.

Again, these images were taken without any sort of training or special equipment: just my point-and-shoot and enhanced later.

The "Hansel and Gretel" Forest

In the forest sits the Spiegelteich, or "Mirror Pond". Beside the church at the top of the hill is the house which served as the Brothers Grimm's inspiration for the witch's house in the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale.

Note: when I took these photos, I was being a tourist, not an artist. I've played with them a little bit to enhance them, but they were never meant to be advertised or marketed. Anyway, this is Paris through the lens of my little point-and-shoot digicam.

I went to a women's retreat this weekend. Here are a few shots from there, with some explanations too!

This is a huge ant. I mean, really. It's like an inch long.

Giant winged ant!

Horned lizard in camouflage!

So, I was going to take a nice texture shot of this tree, when this little guy popped his head around!

Squirrel!

This hummingbird lighted on a branch near me and I clattered over to grab a shot. I got one click in before it fluttered away. I had to zoom up quite a bit to show the detail, and the enhancement ended up making it look like a painting, which I love!

"Art"

2010-04-11T20:57:00.000-07:00

Strictly speaking, the following is not so much about the photo as about the subject. Over my two-week vernal discontinuity from work, I've been working on painting, which is a new medium for me. I made these two to match the color scheme of our bathroom, and I'm quite pleased with the results, considering this is a first attempt.
