Ngata Family, Laguna Beach family photography

I loved spending time with the Ngata family documenting their relaxing family vacation in Laguna Beach, California. You might recognize them from my previous shoots with them after the birth of their first two sons. During this shoot I got to meet their newest handsome little Ngata boy.

I love these types of shoots because I get to spend the day trying to capture the true dynamic and spirit that makes each family unique. As a mother, I takeaway a little bit of inspiration from the beautiful Mothers that I get to photograph and for that I'm so grateful for the opportunity I have to photograph the families I do.

With Christina, she has a gentle, patient and very encouraging nature toward her boys, you can definitely tell they are thriving because of it! I also loved how we caught Haloti wrestling with his boys. Thank you Ngata Family for another amazing shoot full of light, sand and sea and good luck in a new city with the Detroit Lions!

It's nicknamed "The Moon" because the sparkly lava rock is almost out of this world. It's my favorite spot on the island and I'm so happy I got to shoot Sin and Sua's engagement shoot here while they were visiting Hawaii. She's an uncaged bird and free spirited painter and tattoo artist and he seems like her rock and center.

We love this family and the short time they were our neighbors. Before they made the journey back across the ocean, we did a little lifestyle session on their last day in their home at the top of the hills of Hauula. Finally settled in here in Hawaii and now able to blog this all film shoot! I heart film, plan on seeing a lot more of it on this blog as I transition to all film and shooting more personal work! I've had a nice break so far this year and plan on shooting a lot more personal work here as I'm not quite ready to jump back into weddings just yet. ;)

I spent a hot summer day with Alejandra and her little princess, shooting her bridals.

I had the opportunity to photograph the Ngata family again, this time at their home in Baltimore. I loved being able to photograph their growing family, little Sam was an only child and 3 months old last time I photographed him. I flew in the night before and awoke to the sounds of Dr. Seuss and the family up to their usual morning routine. After bath time for the boys we ventured out to their back yard and later to the Sagamore Farm, an expansive property with rolling hills as far as the eye could see. We finally made it back home in October, and by finally I'm talking

17 years for my hubby and 10 years for me.

It was such an invigorating trip that has set in motion some pretty big changes.

I decided to forgo the sandy camera gear and left all my professional equipment at home.

Instead, I brought only a pentax k1000 film camera, some Ektar 100,

a few underwater disposable cameras and my iphone.

We stayed in Kailua, in a little blue cottage with an outdoor shower.

We ate too much Korean bbq and pork hash that

by week two we were craving a hamburger or some spaghetti.

We swam everyday until dark, and then let the kids hunt for glowing plankton

that would wash up on shore in the moonlight.

We drove from Kailua to the North Shore at least every other day.

I turned internet friends into real life friends and one of them even

graced us with a mini family photoshoot!

My hair was a mess... lavender hair does not take kindly to daily sea water.

It was literally the color of the sun, so bright and yellow in fact,

that not once, but twice, I brought a bee home with me.

I mean, those things came crawling out of my yellow hair like it was a sunflower or something.

Sorry to those who I met for the first time for my offensively bright hair! hehe.

Anyways I hope you enjoy a few of my snapshots from our trip.
P.S. I was there, even though I'm not in any of the pictures ;)

This was a fun little play shoot I did with Elana, who've I wanted to work with for awhile. Isn't she gorgeous and truly one of the sweetest girls I've met! She is Egyptian, cool right!?... and something else...ahh..I can't remember...sorry Elana. She's a mix-plate, just like me ;)

I knew I wanted to shoot film (about 90% film here)

PLUS

I had just received a box of intricate, handmade head pieces that needed playing with, from

the lovely Irina of Lacielle Roselle, who is also one of the sweetest girls I have yet to meet.

Everything else, the dress, jacket, driftwood, lace, etc. were just things from my home. We shot in my backyard as the sun was setting and we had ourselves a lovely little gypsy shoot, so indicative of my own style. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the desert is so inspiring to me!

My lil gypsy heart truly comes alive shooting there, I really will miss it!

All shot on Kodak Portra film, 160,400,800 and Mamiya 645
