Kayzar triumph at the British Streetdance Championships 2012

Following an amazing 2011 Kayzar Dance School got 2012 off to a flying start after storming the UDO British Championships at the weekend.

Over 50 finalists took 11 championship titles, including "Xposed" being crowned the Over 18 Newcomer team, Will Smith taking the Over 16 Locking title, and Kieran Lai taking the Under 16 Popping Solo, Senior All Star and Champion of Champions titles.

Second places were awarded to "Riots" in Under 10 Newcomer team, "Ninjas" in Under 14 Advanced team, "K-Lic" in Under 18 Advanced team and "Kayzar Allstars" in Over 18 Advanced team. "Legacy" took 3rd place in the Under 18 Newcomer team section.

Oakley Gusau took the Under 8 intermediate title, while Joshua Constanzo won the Under 12 intermediate title and Tony Heirs took the Under 12 Advanced title. Dwain White won the Over 16 Advanced section while Maddison took the Under 16 BGirl title, followed closely by Lauren Powell in 2nd place. Issie Olley took the Over 16 Bgirl title. Kieran Lai was runner up in the Under 16 Locking section, Will Smith was runner up in the Over 16 Popping section while Lee Pratt was runner up in the Over 16 Locking section.

Third places were awarded to Danny Braybrook in the Under 6 Newcomer section, Shane Lucas in the Under 16 Newcomer section and Lauren Powell and Ellie Gower in the Under 10 Intermediate Duo section.

In Fifth place was Curtis Butler in the Under 14 Advanced category, Chanel Slater in the Over 18 Newcomer category and Charley Wallace and Elisha Dengel in the Under 16 Intermediate Duo section.

A huge well done to everyone who took part - whether you were crowned the champion, a runner up, just missed out on a placement in the top five or simply enjoyed taking part! It was an amazing weekend and you should ALL be very proud of yourselves because we certainly are! :)

FREE Streetdance Classes

We are really excited to be launching our MOTIV-8 project in January 2012. The aim of the project is to encourage children and young people from low income families, who may not normally have the opportunity to participate in dance classes, to experience and enjoy the art of dance and it's numerous benefits including improved fitness, confidence building, developing skills, making friends and having fun!!

Those in receipt of income-based benefits can attend our eight week streetdance course absolutely FREE! The course, supported by Basildon Council, will run every Tuesday from 10th January 2012 for eight weeks at the following times: 4yrs+ 4-5pm; 8yrs+ 5-6pm; 12yrs+ 6-7pm. Participants will focus on the foundations of this popular dance style, learning all the latest moves to their favourite tunes!

Our end of year showcase 2011

Tickets are now on sale for our end of year showcase. This year's theme is Alice in Wonderland -Street Style! Rehearsals are fully underway, everyone is working really hard and we are all very excited!

Performing on the big stage is lots of fun, improves performance skills and is a great way to build confidence. It also gives family and friends the opportunity to see just how much our dancers have achieved and improved throughout the year. We hope that you will join us by supporting our young dancers as they take to the stage for this streetdance sensation (some will be performing on stage for the very first time!).

Wickford Has Talent Champions!

Our streetdance crew, Legacy, were crowned champions in the Wickford Has Talent competition on 15th October. Two of our dance crews made it through to the finals of the competition held at the Wickford Community Centre. Well done Legacy and Blackout! The evening was jam-packed full of talent and helped to raise money for charity. If you would like to learn to dance like the champions come along to our Wickford dance classes every Thursday.

Our 1st anniversary party

A big thank you to everyone who came along to our 1st anniversary party. Our rhythm and funk dance studios has now been open for one whole year and what a great year it has been with many achievements and lots of laughs (as well as tears) along the way. We are really looking forward to seeing what the next year brings for us all - exciting times ahead!

October started with a bang as we supported Peridot on their first ever UK tour "Peridot | Past Present and Beyond". The event, which took place at the Towngate Theatre in Basildon, was a brilliant night of streetdance with many amazing acts showcasing their talent. I'm so so proud of all our dancers - a massive well done to you all! Wishing the boys the best of luck for the final dates of their tour from all of us at Kayzar!

Kayzar at World Streetdance Championships

We recently took our dancers to compete at the World Streetdance Championships for the very first time, and all of our dance crews made it through to the finals!! Such an amazing achievement for our dancers who work so hard all year round.

We had an exciting and very busy time at the competition organised by United Dance Organisation at Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Four of our dance crews were ranked top 4 in the world for their age - with one crew winning 2nd place [Ninjas] and another picking up 3rd place [Reloaded]. Brilliant results for our first ever world competition...as they say, the only way is up!

Our dancers also did brilliantly in the solo, duo and quad categories winning the U14 and O16 advanced locking, U12 advanced hip hop, U14 all stars and U16 breakdance to name just a few!
Well done to everyone who took part - you are amazing and we are very proud of you all :)

Clarfication on ages:
If a dancer is 6 years old then they will have to compete in the upper category U8 and so on.
For duos, the category is determined by the eldest dancer. I.e. if one dancer is 7 and the other is 10 then they would have to compete in the U12 category.
For Crews/Teams: 25% of the crew/team can be over the age category. For example if there are 4 dancers in the U12 category 1 could be 13 years old, the remaining 3 must be 11 years old or younger.
One dancer can dance with one team or crew ONLY.
A crew is 5 - 7 dancers
A team is 8+ dancers

Kayzar support Together Against Crime

Kayzar entertained hundreds of shoppers and passers-by in the Basildon town centre as part of the Together Against Crime event on 28 July.

The annual event, hosted by The Basildon Community Safety Partnership (CSP), aims to encourage residents to find out more about how the CSP work together to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the borough.

Many local dance and music acts performed on the community stage, hosted by Harry Carnaby.
Kayzar are proud to be involved in events such as this, particularly as our aim is to provide fun and engaging activities that enable children and young people to enjoy themselves and learn new skills in a positive way, away from the streets.

Kayzar spent the weekend performing and entertaining the crowd with amazing performances at T-Fest for the second year running.

T-Fest is in its fourth year and bigger than ever! The event took place on 23/24 July at Grays Beach Riverside Park, Thames Road, Grays.

Kayzar peformed alongside acts including the cast of The Only Way Is Essex, Jamie ‘Afro’ Archer, Gamu and Titan the Robot, along with local bands Car Boot Tetris, Mackley Drive, and many more.

Kieran wins European gold

A young streetdancer busted his moves to represent England at a European competition and won first place.

Kieran Lai, 15, picked up the medal for Junior Electric Boogie solo at the European Hip Hop championships, held in Denmark at the weekend.

He competed against dozens of other dancers for the title with a one-minute routine he choreographed himself.

About 150 dancers from England took part in the Europe-wide competition, which attracted almost 5,000 dancers.

Kieran, who dances with Kayzar in Basildon, Essex, has worked hard to improve his technique in order to win the competition in which he came second last year.

He said: “It was a tough competition but I really enjoyed it. I practise a lot during the week so I'm pleased all the practising has paid off."

“I feel happy when I'm dancing. The whole experience was amazing”

Kieran's dance teacher, Nader Boulila, said "I am really proud of Kieran. He is a brilliant, talented dancer and I'm sure he will continue to go far."

"He has a unique approach which sets him apart from other dancers."

"Kieran worked hard and gave the competition everything he had so I'm really pleased he did so well"

He added "At Kayzar we specialise in Streetdance. It is a very popular dance style. I think that's because Streetdance is really accessible. People can just come in from the street and dance. It's so versatile and fun."

Once again Kayzar performed at the Dance 2 Xpress showcase this year in honour of the legend; Michael Jackson 1958-2009 on the second anniversary of his passing.

D2X brings together some of the best dance groups / crews / schools / duos & solo performers in the UK in an outstanding, dynamic, jaw-dropping and captivating evening of dance.

The event, hosted by Turbo and Ric (Abyss) took place at the Beck Theatre on Saturday the 25th of June 2011. Kayzar performed alongside dancers such as Chris and Wes, Boy Blue, Trilogy, Abyss any many more amazing acts.

Dancers big win!

A GROUP of Essex dancers brought home an amazing collection of silverware after achieving glory at a competition in Essex.
Kayzar Dance Company competed against schools from across the South East in the Essex Streetdance Championships, and walked away with 32 trophies.
Around 43 youngsters were taken to perform at the dance competition, which was held at the Civic Hall in Grays. They all took home at least one prize winning trophy in either solo, duo or group categories.
Junior dance troupe, Riots, who were recently crowned Southend’s TXT Factor streetdance champions, scooped another first place trophy in the under 12 group category. In the under 16 groups, Ninjas picked up 1st place followed closely by Remedy in 2nd place and Legacy in 3rd. K-Lic came 1st in the over 16 groups and Justice won 3rd place in the same category. Madison Hubbard, 11, came 1st in the under 12 solos while Sam Hall, 12, scooped second place in the under 14s. In the under 16 solo category, Kieran Lai, 14, picked up 1st place, while Ellen Westmore, 15, was awarded 2nd place and Will Smith, 15, came 3rd. The remaining trophies were awarded to dancers for their outstanding performances in the duo categories.
Nader Boulila, who runs Kayzar Dance Company said: “What a brilliant result! All the judges were of the highest level and our pupils were competing against schools from the whole South East area.
“We are so proud of all our pupils and teachers. They all deserve such fantastic results as they always work so hard.
“It is a wonderful achievement and recognition for all the hard work, support and team spirit from all the pupils, parents and teachers."
The young dancers train at Kayzar Dance Company which has dance schools in Basildon, Brentwood, Southend and Wickford with classes available for all ages.
