I do realize that there are many other details that need to be written about KaZantip, but let's move ahead just a bit to discuss a major issue at hand with KaZantip. I don't know if anyone else has been looking for the KaZantip festival (or nation as it is sometimes being referred to) over the past few years, but recently there is some sort of discrepancy over where it is being held. Is it in the Ukraine? Is it in Portugal? As strange as it may sound I've even seen advertisements for the festival being held in Turkey? Word on the street has it that a fraudulent site being conducted by a Swiss businessman has been put in place and a copycat KaZantip nation is being put in place. There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that this festival originated in the Ukraine and still is being conducted in the Ukraine. But, if you take into recent consideration who does the majority of advertising and dominates the internet it's the festival in Portugal and their affiliates. Although I have read postings and reviewed websites of groups speaking out on where the festival is being held and who and who not to believe there is still nothing definitively in place stating what is and what isn't. Let the record reflect that in no way am I criticizing, finger-pointing or placing blame on any one individual, specific group of people or organization. Nevertheless, when you have over 200,000 people attending a festival every year from all locations in the world, this is an unacceptable standard and shows a lack of unity from all parties involved.

What's the point in all of this? KaZantip is losing the singular identity that it once had. People are now forgoing the festival to attend other functions, visit other beaches and cities due to this confusion. Rumors are now stating that the festival is over commercialized, unsanitary, and full of drugs and prostitution. A venue to perform and enjoy electronic music uninhibitedly is at stake of declining. Where are the representatives for the festival? Where are the DJ's and musicians that have performed? No one group is taking a stand about what is or what isn't. Ultimately, KaZantip needs a permanent international identity...it needs an anthem. Not necessarily an anthem in song, but a symbol for a distinct idea...a distinct group of people...a distinct nation.

After doing some background research on the KaZantip festival, I have come to conclude that many people don't even know where Kazantip is located geographically. Although the festival is currently not held at this location I will still provide the historical background for educational purposes.
The festival itself is named for the Kazantyp headland (cape) located in the northeastern part of the Crimean peninsula in the Ukraine on the shore of the Azov Sea. The name Kazantyp comes from the Crimean Tatar name qazan tüp that means bottom of a cauldron referring to its concave profile. It extends far into the sea from the coastline with its length being about 3–4 km. Its highest point is 107 meters above the sea level, with the average being 30–40 meters while its lowest inland point is 20–30 meters above the sea level. The headland is the northernmost point of the Crimean peninsula, dividing the Kazantyp and the Arbat lagoons.
The headland Kazantyp is mostly covered with steppes and on May 12, 1998 according to the decree of the President of Ukraine the Kazantip Nature Reserve was founded. According to UNESCO the Cape Kazantip is a reserve of international significance.
The Kazantyp Lighthouse is located on the headland. During 1995–1999, the international electronic music festival was held nearby inside the turbine hall of the unfinished Crimean Atomic Energy Station near Shchelkino.

As we all know, there are hundreds if not thousands of blogs on every topic under the sun. Unfortunately, many are disgused advertising and provide very little information. Many others are rapidly and systematically constructed by individuals that have absolutely no knowledge of their subject. After closely watching activities within the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) community I have noticed that many popular EDM festivals are barely known and have no characteristic identities. Even with all the magnitude of DJ's within this spectacular genre many people across the world are still unfamiliar with the many festivals and happenings pertaining to EDM.
While conducting my research I found an excellent statement in the biography page of Wolfgang Gartner. He stated "One of my mantras is that I have a responsibility to advance the genre. If I am capable of doing something I've never done before, I feel like I have to use that ability, because there are not many people who do - or can." With this statement in mind it has ultimately led to the creation of this site.
Although this blog will pertain to many details about kaZantip, quite often there will be additional postings about music, current events and culture within EDM. I invite you to subscribe, visit often as well as post your thoughts. My ultimate goal is to make this site a joint exercise in creating a global awareness of kaZantip and EDM.
