By way of vintagevectors.com come these 3 free vector art graphics. Scanned from public domain sources, we are pleased to make these highly detailed heraldic crests available to the graphic arts community.

All three have jeweled crowns atop a shield crest. There are lions holding weapons on two emblems. Also represented are a trident, cornucopia and cross. Sheet Music Note Vectors- Free

Today we’re giving away musical note vectors- free vectors. I came up with these as I was working on a cover design for a musician- I figure it has a universal application to a design because it can be used on any genre of music from hip hop to classical to country- musical notes apply to them all. I designed the music vectors in various orientations- so one of them’s got to fit your design whatever the space situation is. Music is a lot like graphic design but with sound- so I encourage you all to listen to music when you design- I usually get my best creative ideas as I’m just sitting there listening to music.

I’m not sure what these sheet music vectors would sound like if they were to actually be performed on a violin or piano- but it’d probably totally awesome! There are a total of seven free music vector graphics in this free download. This free vector art is original, copyright free artwork that can be used on any commercial or personal project. 3 Free High Resolution Wood Textures - Rustic and Old

Got some high resolution old wood textures to share - taken high in the mountains of Colorado. The wood is old and faded with lots of gnarly details. One of the textures is rustic tree bark, one texture shows the wood’s layers close up. The third is the base of a tree stump cut over a hundred years ago. I also included some sort of fungus the I discovered growing on a tree in Tennessee.

The wood textures are about 3800 x 2500 pixels. They are high quality JPEGs - around 5MB each. Hope you find them useful. This is just the first in a series of textures we’ll be releasing in the coming weeks. Much more to come!

Designing With Vintage/Antique Images + Layered PSD Files

I was experimenting with using vintage images for a cover design and got off on a few design tangents (I’m sure that’s never happened to you, right). Hours later I had some interesting looking pieces that never ended up in a design - but they were fun to put together. May as well share! Any and all parts of these files can be used in personal or commercial works.

I’m giving away 2 high-resolution, layered Photoshop files. I admit they are a bit strange… both have a girl from the early 1900s. She is walking a dog in the original creative commons, copyright-free image. However I wanted to twist it up a bit.

LOOKING LASS
The first layered Photoshop design includes an original title logo design, Looking Lass. It was all part of the experiment. Use it if you like. It’s a vector smart object that will open in Illustrator. I took the background image at a bonsai exhibit in North Carolina, getting in really close using the macro function on my consumer grade Powershot camera. I liked the idea of her walking something fragile out of the setting so I worked in the butterfly. Play around with the layers, take what you want. All the imagery is free of copyright or is original creation.

COVER DESIGN TEMPLATE
The second free download features our little girl again, this time walking a lizard… why?…. well why not?? The inspiration for this came from the title it was designed for, Epoch. The request was for something very ‘out of the box’ that vaguely eludes to the cyclical nature of time. This was one rejected concept. Again - take what you like. It’s all original creation or free from copyright. The title font is NOT included, but you can get it here.

City/Old Factory Vectors

Here is some city and factory themed free vector art. Two vectors are of an old factory with chain link fences and electrical power lines. The other vector graphic is a view along a downtown city street. Can you name the city?

I took that city photo sometime ago and started a design idea, which went in a completely different direction. What remains is the original inspiration, which is included with today’s free vector download. It’s a layered Photoshop file using a variety of layer blending modes to build up colors and create drama and movement. Enjoy.
