Tip #1: select a robust, personal reason to quit
"Because
it's unhealthy for you" is not ok. to own the desire power to quit and
stay quit you would like a strong and private reason to quit. Maybe you
have young children and do not need to reveal them to used smoke.
Perhaps you've got a case history of cancer and ar deathly afraid. Come
to a conclusion of what's the simplest reason for you to quit. Something
that is mightier than the urge to lightweight up
.
Tip #2: do not simply Go Cold Turkey
We've
all detected of individuals going "cold turkey". It sound tempting to only
throw out your cigarettes however going cold turkey is incredibly tough to try and do
and I do not suggest it. Over ninetieth over those who quit smoking while not
the help of medical aid or medication find yourself reversion and go right back to
smoking. this is often as a result of vasoconstrictive is incredibly habit-forming. Your brain is employed
to having vasoconstrictive and it likes it, it craves it. once vasoconstrictive becomes
absent, intense symptoms of vasoconstrictive withdrawal occur.

Tip #3: Use Nicotine-Replacement medical aid (NRT)
When
you stop smoking the searching for "just another drag" on a roll of tobacco
will be overwhelming. once you quit smoking you'll expertise intense
withdrawal symptoms. you are feeling irritable, restless, pissed off and
depressed. however nicotine-replacement medical aid will scale back and management these
feelings. vasoconstrictive patches, lozenges and gum can facilitate double your
chances of quitting with success. it's typically not suggested to use
these medications whereas smoking
.
Tip #4: raise your Doctor concerning vasoconstrictive prescription pills
The
chance of productive quitting is way higher once NRT medication
is used. the employment of nicotine-containing medication may be a transition step
to not having to use any medication eventually when you've got
successfully quit and brought back your life from vasoconstrictive
addiction/withdrawal. Medication delivered orally or through a patch
is not like smoking. Developing a dependency on these medications is
uncommon. Some samples of prescription Nicotine-Replacement medical aid
pills are: Bupropion (Generic: Zyban, Wellbutrin SR), and Varenicline
(Generic: Chantix) you'd begin these medications 1-2 weeks before
your quit date and still use them for 2-6 months. A nicotine
inhaler or nasal spray (Nicotrol) is another means that of withdrawal management
your doctor could order for you. These pills and sprays can facilitate scale back
and management your cravings to smoke. They have an effect on chemicals within the brain.
If you were to smoke a roll of tobacco whereas on these medications it might be
far less satisfying. Your MD may order alternative medications to
relieve feelings of depression and/or the shortcoming to concentrate. Let
your doctor assist you stop smoking
.
Tip #5: do not Quit Alone/Pick a Quit Date and tell everyone
Tell
everybody you recognize that you just ar quitting smoking. Tell your family and
all of your friends and associates that you just ar quitting. The
encouragement you receive can create all the distinction on the foremost
difficult days once you ar tempted to select up a roll of tobacco. they'll be
additional subsidiary of you and understanding of your irritability (everyone
has some) if they recognize what you're endeavor. raise your doctor to
recommend a support cluster or a counselor to talk with further.
Combining medications with counsel can increase the chance of
your quitting
.
Tip #6: Manage Your Stress/Reward yourself
Most
folks can tell you that they smoke as a result of the vasoconstrictive helps them
relax. whereas and when quitting you will need alternative ways in which to handle daily
stress. once ever you're thinking that of smoking, take a walk. Physical activity
many ways you ne'er unreal. New habits can return to you. Invest in
yourself and build a more robust life
.
Tip #7: Avoid Triggers
Certain
habits or activities can increase the temptation to smoke. Drinking
alcohol is one among the foremost common triggers. as a result of most smokers
must have a roll of tobacco lit once they ar drinking. you would like to create some

For most smokers discovering and to quit smoking and then feeling
like they have never smoked is a dream. If only this were possible.
This is not only possible but it's a daily reality for smokers all over
the world.
During the initial chat portion of my quit smoking
programme I tell my clients that 30% of people will quit and feel as if
they have never smoked at all. 30% will have some thoughts of smoking
such as when having a coffee, but this is just a passing thought.
30%
will have to be vigilant especially where alcohol is involved, usually
lots of it. As alcohol tends to diss-inhibit there is a risk that you
will smoke or more likely someone will just light one up and give it to
you.
5% will need another session and 5% will simply not be able to quit in my clinic.
So what happens to the 30% who quit without any further thought? In my experience they have a few things in common.
1.
They are 100% committed to quitting. They have reached a point of
realising there is absolutely no benefit for them in smoking any longer.
2.
They fill out there pre session questionnaire in specific detail. This
means they have taken the time to really think about what smoking is
doing to them. Those who don't take the time to properly consider their
answers are usually still in some denial about their smoking habit.
3.
They accept the new information they receive about cigarettes, for
example that smoking actually causes more anxiety than relaxation. Some
want to debate the issue, which is simply a scientific fact.
4. Even though they may be nervous they approach the hypnosis with a sense of adventure and anticipation.
5. They do the recommended follow up instructions.
While
there is a degree of uncertainty as to exactly who will quit with no
feelings of having ever smoked, the chances are greatly enhanced when
you follow the five steps above.
But don't despair if you quit and
still have some thoughts about smoking, this will be the experience for
many people. Just stick to your programme and always remember to never
ever have one cigarette, not one puff or draw on a smoke.
The
rules is if you never have another cigarette then you will never have
another cigarette. This may sound a little simplistic right now, but
when you quit with advanced hypnosis it will become a reality.
It may sound crazy that anyone would intentionally make quitting
smoking any harder than necessary. But I can guarantee that if you want
to know a secret about how to quit smoking, then just stop making it so
hard for yourself.
Henry Ford once said, that if you think you can
or you think you can't, then either way you are right. Here in lies the
problem. Many smokers think they can't, or think it will be very hard.
They say things like:
1. Cigarettes are my friend: Wow talk about a lousy friend.
2. I'll be lost without them: Nothing quite so comforting as lighting a toxic cigarette.
3. I need my cigarettes to think: Nothing like 4000 toxic chemicals flooding your brain to help cognition.
4.
Cigarettes help me when I'm stressed. Nicotine causes an adrenal
response, flooding your system with adrenalin and cortisol, nothing good
about that.
5. Smoking helps me relax. Again the nicotine does no such thing. It's taking time out that is relaxing.
6. I like smoking when I eat. Just wait until your food tastes like food and not an ashtray.
7. I always smoke with alcohol. Have a look around, notice the non smokers are doing just fine, without smoking.
8.
I put on weight if I quit. Smokers are no less thin or fat than any
other group in society. Smoking actually makes it hard for your liver to
break down fats properly.
In fact one of the best pieces of
advice I can give to a smoker is to just observe non smokers going about
their day. See them when they are relaxed, stressed, busy, thinking,
bored, eating or drinking.
The non smokers are managing just fine
without any assistance from cigarettes. Focussing on all the reasons you
think you need to smoke is just making it very hard for you. You can't
quit when you think your life is so dependent on smoking.
The
first thing to do is to look at the list and just think about it. Start
to realise that smoking doesn't make anything better. It doesn't help
you to relax or thing, or drive better or hold a better conversation on
the phone.
All it does is cost you a lot of money, make you smell
like an ashtray, and strip away 14 years of life on average. And did I
mention the slow painful lingering death.
Are you looking for help to stop smoking? Are you asking where to
go to stop smoking as well? First of all, accepting that you need
expert or professional help in order to quit smoking is the initial step
to recovery. There are so many resources for a person who would like to
quit smoking. Here are some resources for quitters who are asking where
to go to stop smoking:

Your doctor - your physician
is the most important person to talk to if you finally want to quit
smoking. He will make an overall assessment of your health with the use
of diagnostic exams to find out any illness or health condition that
needs to be addressed right away. Your doctor may also advice the ideal
treatment for you to stop smoking since treatments are developed
according to each smoker's state of health and smoking history. Nicotine
replacement therapy which is the most common method to manage cigarette
or nicotine cravings must be guided by a professional. There are
over-the-counter products that you can use to quit smoking but the best
and the most effective are prescribed by your personal doctor.

Therapist - a professional or a psychiatrist may be helpful in
addressing issues related to stress and smoking. Stress and anxiety are
some of the most common reasons why people turn to smoking and
therapists can help suggest relaxation and stress management techniques.
Since stress management is also an individualized approach, therapists
often do one-on-one consultations and patient care in a professional
clinical setting. A therapist may also recommend support groups or
forums online where a person who would like to quit get support and
help.

Quit smoking programs- there are so many programs that are endorsed
by the American Lung Association like Freedom From Smoking to help adult
smokers; this program teaches the ideal techniques and skills to help
quitters. Freedom From Smoking may either be a group clinic, an online
program or a downloadable self-help book. The Not-On-Tobacco or the
N-O-T is a special quitting program for teen smokers. Teens who are
asking where to go to stop smoking can find help when they join N-O-T;
this is a support groups for teens aged 14 to 19 who are addicted to

Association, you may call 202 785 3355 or email at info@lung.org.

Online help - there are also so many self help sites and how-to
sites that are dedicated to helping people who want to quit smoking.
There are several online forums, chat rooms and sites that are exclusive

to stick to a site which is referred by your doctor.

Friends and family - people around you are the best people to turn
to for help when you want to quit. These people truly understand you and
appeal to your personal concern as well. Remember that it is hard
enough to quit but it is harder when you quit alone. Ask your family
members and friends for help today.

We all know that smoking is bad for your health. You've seen
health reminders about the dangers of smoking over and over again and
almost everywhere. But most of the time you also get to come up with
excuses over and over again so you can smoke. One of the excuses I've
heard is that smoking will only affect you if done after a long time.
This, of course, is absolutely wrong. So before you start lighting up
that cigarette, read the top five immediate effects of smoking to your
body.

Stress. Most people believe that smoking can reduce
stress but in fact it actually makes things worse for you. What
actually relaxes you is the deep, slow breathing. What ruin the whole
thing are the harmful chemicals you're breathing when smoking. Studies
have shown that smokers have higher levels of stress than non-smokers.
Smokers are more likely to feel anxiety, irritation, depression and
boredom. In other words, the more you smoke, the more you'll experience
behavioral problems.

Weaker respiratory system. Since smoke passes
through your nose and mouth down to your lungs, your respiratory system
will immediately get affected. Coughing and increased phlegm production
happens right away as the lungs try to protect itself from the toxic
substances of smoke. This could lead to tightening of the airways
similar to what a person with asthma experiences. Not coughing when
smoking? That's because your lungs are probably not perfectly healthy
enough to protect you.

Decreased physical performance. No wonder you're
out of breath each time you take the stairs. Smoking can immediately
take its toll to the body. It damages the respiratory system which means
less oxygen circulating in the body, making you tired easily. It also
increases blood pressure, requiring the heart to pump harder and faster.
This means that when you smoke, your heart works twice as hard, wearing
it out faster. On top of that, your high blood pressure can cause organ
damage such as the kidneys where your blood is filtered.

Damage to the digestive system. Your digestive
system is responsible for making sure that you get as much nutrients
from the food you eat. This system is easily affected by tobacco smoke.
When you smoke, your stomach tends to increase acid production which can
result to painful heart burns and ulcers. Cigarette smoke can also
decrease your appetite and weakens your digestive system's ability to
absorb nutrients from the food you eat, leaving your body with
deficiencies.

Weakens the immune system. The immune system is our
main line of defense against diseases and infections. Since harmful
chemicals in cigarettes travel inside our body through our bloodstream,
our immune system is immediately affected by slowing down the production
of antibodies and other cells that protect the body from sickness. If
you're a smoker, have you noticed that you easily catch a cold or
influenza and it takes you longer to recover compared to those who do
not smoke?

We cannot elaborate further how bad smoking is for your
body. Some of the effects of smoking are reversible but studies have
shown that many are not. If you keep on smoking, you are literally
digging up a hole you won't be able to get out of. Quit while you still
can and while you still have a chance to be healthy.

"Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousands of times."

    Yup... you read that right.
The title does sound slightly bonkers.
But, in my experience, it's true.
Here's why.
Most diets and weight loss sites talk about exercise in terms of 'burning calories'.
As in, if you run for 20 minutes you'll 'burn off' the chocolate chip cookie that accompanied your mid-morning cuppa.
Or, say you had a Big Mac for lunch? Well, a three-hour-run will 'cancel out' those calories.
But, by thinking of exercise as 'burning off' or 'cancelling out', you inadvertently reduce exercise to a numbers game.
The problem with thinking of exercise with this numbers mindset is that your workouts will be short-lived.
Very short-lived.
You'll give up.
You'll quit.
Exercising will feel like a torture session where you're 'make up' for the guilty pleasure of having eaten something yum.
And eating will seem like a naughty pleasure where X no. of cookies = Y no. of hours exercising.
Sound like fun, no? Ick.
It's very possible you've been there already. I know I have.
Clearly, exercise is huuuugely beneficial for shifting those extra kilos.
Where most people fail is this: weight loss is their singular reason for exercising. And so they run out of puff.
If
you're one of the ones who runs out of puff where exercise is
concerned, you need to change the way you view - and supplement your
reasons for - exercising.
Here's how.
The real reasons to exercise.
Before I share the real reasons to exercise, here's a helpful aside that'll make a world of difference to how you view it.
Stop calling it exercise.
If
you're like most people, exercise has "Eww... I'm all sweaty and
puffed," negative associations. That's exactly why the majority of good
folk eschew it.
Instead, replace the dreaded E-word with 'moving
your body'. Our bodies are absolutely, brilliantly designed to do just
that - move.
See, how suddenly it already feels more do-able just by changing what you call it?
Now, back to the real reasons for exercising Moving Your Body:
MYB lowers cortisol levels.
Cortisol
is a stress hormone released by your body whenever you feel stressed.
When your cortisol levels are elevated, your body tends to lay down fat,
especially around your tummy.
MYB is the antidote for lowering your cortisol levels.
MYB
increases your sensitivity to insulin. Increasing your insulin
sensitivity sounds like it'd be a bad thing but it's not. Here's why.
The
more you MYB, the more sensitive your muscles become to insulin, so
your pancreas produces less insulin. Since insulin also instructs your
body to lay down fat, less of it in your body, the better.
MYB increases feel good hormones.
When
you MYB, you release some of the best stress-reducing drugs available -
your body's own natural endorphins. The release of these natural
opiates positively affects your mood, enhances concentration and enables
you to sleep more soundly.
And, finally...
As if these weren't reason enough already... MYB increases your sex drive.
And, certain hormones released during exercise have been shown to slow - and even reverse - the aging process.
Yay!
To conclude.
If you've previously exercised to 'lose weight', stop it. It's doomed to fail. Like all those other times.
Instead,
Move Your Body. Because it's terrific for you - and your brilliantly,
intricately designed body - on so many other levels.
MYB every day and watch those extra kilos shift.

Have you ever eaten an apple and you suddenly get that extra
burst of energy? Well that is one of the main points of this article. If
you are not that fond of coffee, what are the other food items
available out there that can give you perk you right up and get you
energized. Well, one of the most popular food items that may seem go
yield the desired effect is an apple.
First off, everyone should
know that apples do not contain any caffeine. So where exactly do we get
that steady increase of energy we get from eating an apple? The answer
is remarkably easy. It's a little something called fructose. Fructose is
a kind of sugar that is present in virtually any type of fruit. As you
eat an apple or any type of fruit for that matter, you are introducing
energy generating sugars into your body that is slowly digested and used
up by the body because of the fiber that is present in fruits. Since it
is steadily used up by the body, you don't experience that sort of
sugar rush or that crash of energy afterwards where you become sleepy
and tired.
While this is obviously a suitable alternative for that
extra energy you need, there is still a reason why people prefer coffee
and caffeine for their daily energy boost. Of course, we all know that
caffeine is fast acting which means once you start drinking coffee or
energy drinks with caffeine, you can almost feel its effects at that
moment. It's that instant pick me up you need in the morning or in the
afternoon. Apart from energy, it also keeps you alert and at top
performance level. Caffeine also has several other benefits apart from
the instant energy surge. Caffeine is also an excellent source of
antioxidants which cleans your body of impurities.
Additionally,
apart from the bodily effects of coffee, people often drink it socially.
It has become a social staple in the professional life of many and even
at home. Dad and Mom typically start their day with a hot cup of coffee
before anything else. This gets your day going to a good start. Coffee
can also be flavored with a bunch of ingredients to make them taste
better like cinnamon and chocolate.
Now, if you're not quite fond
of the taste of coffee but still want that energy boost provided by
caffeine. You can always buy caffeine powder in bulk. This means you can
add caffeine into your drink of choice and get the same effect as you
would with coffee. You should follow directions when using caffeine
powder though. Dosages are highly specific, and it only takes a
decidedly little amount to get the energy you need for the day.
So
all in all, if you want to go the healthier route and want to avoid
caffeine, you can try substituting apples for your source of extra
energy, but if you need that instant effect, you need caffeine.

Losing weight is something that many people desire to do. They
search and search for the right diet plans, diet pills and diet advice
books. Every year, millions of people even make the task of dropping
pounds their New Year's resolution. Whether someone wants to shed weight
to get into a summer bathing suit, fit into their high school uniform
or even improve their health, soliciting the help of a personal trainer
is a great idea. In fact, these professionals are vital in many cases.
One
of the reasons a personal trainer is so invaluable is because they can
provide a sense of motivation. Many times people get lazy when it comes
to their exercise routine. For example, someone could start off going to
the gym five times a week. However, after a couple of weeks, they start
slacking off. They only make an effort to go once a week, at most. This
isn't because they no longer want to lose weight. However, they have
lost their motivation. A professional can help to make sure that this
doesn't occur. They would be there to push them to exercise even when
they really don't want to.
Another thing that a personal trainer
can provide is accountability. Sometimes, people can not only lose
motivation. However, they can just plain give up. It may be due to the
fact that they have lost interest or they aren't seeing the results that
they want. So, they no longer care. Therefore, they may tend to do
things such as sneak junk food or purposely skip exercise days. However,
if there was someone there to hold them accountable, it wouldn't be so
easy for them to do. That's because a person such as a personal trainer
actually tracks their clients' progress. So, they would notice if they
haven't been eating the right things or sticking to the proper exercise
regimen.
Along with providing motivation and accountability, these
professionals also provide encouragement. Some may believe that family
members and friends can do this job. However, this isn't always the
case. Many times, they are already preoccupied with their own lives and
the issues that come with it. So, they don't really have the time,
patience or wherewithal to focus on the weight loss goals of others. In
some cases, they may even be consumed with their own weight loss goals.
So,
a personal trainer can provide many great aspects to a person's weight
loss plan. Without them, many people would be left to reach their goal
on their own. Going at it alone could be a direct route to failure, for
some. That's because they need someone who will be right by their side,
motivating them, encouraging them and holding them accountable.
Chiropractic therapy has been able to reach many clients and
change their life for the better. This alternative medicine gave hope to
those who thought their condition is there for the rest of their lives.
With this holistic approach in achieving optimum health, many have
chosen chiropractic because it is a non-invasive. Other than that, a
home health program is provided to allow the patient to follow a regimen
for their betterment. Read on to know the top benefits of chiropractic
treatment and you too could experience quality life.
The main
benefit of seeing a chiropractor is getting relief from muscle and joint
pains. A patient who has experienced chronic pain and had taken
medication to get immediate relief realizes that the root cause of the
ache is not targeted but only numbing it for a while. With chiropractic
therapy, it is not only the pain that is eliminated but also
understanding where it came from. Thus aside from getting relief from
pain, it is also prevented from returning.
Another one of the top
benefits of chiropractic treatment is increase in flexibility of the
muscles and range of motion. It is no secret that as the person ages,
the body tends to go slow in healing injuries and flexibility is
decreased. With the chiropractic therapy, the chiropractor is able to
help the patient with teaching exercises and lifestyle changes that can
help strengthen the muscles. With the patient's determination, the
injury or weak body will enjoy once more muscle flexibility and doing
more activities.
As the body is a complex machine, each body
system has its own function to make the whole body works well. However,
one system works will affect other systems in their performance as well.
But if all body systems are in-sync and the pain is eliminated, the
body can be at its optimum capacity. Such condition allows the body to
protect itself from diseases and illnesses common among people. With
chiropractic therapy, the body's immune system is given the boost as
other systems in the body are given treatment.
Many people having
stressful lives lack sleep and easily get irritated. With chiropractic
treatment, the body will feel energized and full of vigor to face the
daily challenges head on. When body ache is relieved and the immune
system is heightened, the person will feel less stressed and experience
better sleep. This will give the person more energy to take on any
trials without complain with little to no problem at all. Being able to
feel fresh everyday when waking up is one of the top benefits of chiropractic treatment.
Many
have attested to having undergone chiropractic therapy and felt the
benefits of chiropractic treatment. With its hand techniques and tools
used in a non-invasive way, patients prefer this alternative medicine.
If you have any condition that has been coming back and not being cured,
chiropractic may just be the right one for you. Do not delay as your
health is on the line here and experience the best life you can possibly
have after.
Whiplash is a medical condition that is actually quite common.
Chances are, you've experienced it at one time in your life, even if it
were only a mild case. It can occur from someone suddenly and
unexpectedly pushing you hard from behind. Or, as is most often the
case, it happens from someone hitting your car from behind. Regardless
of the cause or the severity, it can be painful.
Although there is
pain and discomfort associated with whiplash, it is not
life-threatening. However, some of the pain can linger for years. That's
why it is important see a pain specialist as soon as you are injured.
What Exactly Is Whiplash?
When
a person is struck from behind by another automobile, it causes the
seat to push the torso and body in a forward motion. Since the head and
neck are not supported, they hyper extend backwards. Once the initial
impact is over, the neck and head recover and are then thrown into a
hyperflexed position.
Simply put, whiplash occurs when the lower
neck bones are hyperextended in one direction while the upper neck bones
are hyperextended in the opposite direction. This causes the neck to
form an unnatural neck curve. This irregular curvature causes muscles,
ligaments, tissue and nerves to become damaged. An examination and
x-rays can verify the condition.
Symptoms Of Whiplash
Whiplash
can affect many different areas of the body. The individual can
experience dizziness, a ringing of the ears and complications with their
vision. Fatigue is also common. Pain can be found in the jaw, neck,
shoulder, upper back and arms. There can also be stiffness in the neck
and shoulders. Arm strength can diminish, as well and headaches are
quite common.
Over time, symptoms can expand to include depression
and anxiety. Frustration can result from the aggravation of being in
constant pain and not being able to find relief. The individual will
likely have trouble sleeping, too.
What Can Be Done To Help
Although
the usual initial course of action involves the use of a cervical
collar to immobilize the neck, this should only be used temporarily as
prolonged use can actually extend the healing time.
A pain
specialist can provide you with exercises that are designed to
strengthen and rehabilitate the injured area. Bringing the neck back to
it's intended level of curvature is also important. A chiropractor can
work with you to reposition the neck into the correct alignment.
Following a proper level of treatment, it is quite possible to obtain a
full recovery.

Atherosclerosis - Leading Cause Of Heart Disease And Stroke
About
1.2 million Americans are diagnosed with heart disease every year and
almost 700,000 Americans will suffer a stroke. Additionally, about 8
million people suffer peripheral arterial disease in the U.S.
Atherosclerosis
is the leading cause for heart attack and stroke, which results in more
than 40% of all deaths in the United States, more than all kinds of
cancer combined. For many, atherosclerosis is a silent disease, with no
visible signs or symptoms until it suddenly leads to a heart attack or
stroke.
Atherosclerosis or arteriosclerosis is a disease where
there is a slow increase of fatty plaques in the arteries, causing the
arteries to harden. The arteries are the blood vessels that carry blood
from the heart to the rest of the body, delivering oxygen and nutrients
to the cells. The buildup of plaque in these arteries narrows the
arteries and reduces the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart and
other parts of the body.
The process of atherosclerosis can begin
at early childhood or adulthood and eventually block the arteries, which
arrests the flow of blood to the heart and brain, leading to heart
attack, stroke or even death. Any artery in the body can be altered by
atherosclerosis and, depending on which artery is affected, a variety of
diseases can develop.
-- Coronary artery disease or heart
disease: A buildup of plaque in the coronary arteries can reduce or
block blood flow to the heart, leading to chest pain and heart attack.
--
Carotid artery disease: A buildup of plaque in the carotid arteries can
lower or diminish blood flow to the brain leading to stroke.
--
Peripheral arterial disease: A buildup of plaque in the major arteries
supplying oxygen-rich blood to the legs, arms and pelvis, can lead to
numbness, pain and dangerous infections.
Low-grade Inflammation Plays A Crucial Role At Every Stage Of Atherosclerosis
During
the initial stage of atherosclerosis, plaques build up quickly in the
inflamed arteries. When inflammation persists, the plaques narrow the
blood vessels quickly. As atherosclerosis progresses, inflammation leads
to the formation of soft or vulnerable plaque filled with inflammatory
cells and their metabolites and debris.
The inflamed plaques
develop weak areas that can rupture without warning. The ruptured plaque
brings the blood in contact with the plaque contents, results in the
formation of clots and artery occlusion, leads to major problems like
heart attack and stroke.
What Causes Low-grade Inflammation
Cigarette
smoking, hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes are well
established risk factors that promote atherosclerosis. These risk
factors give rise to a range of toxic stimuli that cause the release of
chemicals and the activation of inflammatory cells.
In addition,
chronic infection, probably caused by bacteria or virus, might
contribute to or even cause atherosclerosis. The infectious bacteria
such as Chlamydia pneumoniae has been shown to have an important
association with atherosclerotic plaque. The herpes simplex virus may
also be an original inflammatory infectious agent in atherosclerosis.
Lifestyle factors such as stress, lack of exercise, poor diet, and genetic predisposition can also stimulate inflammation.
Inflammatory Marker CRP Predicts Cardiovascular Events And Stroke
C-reactive
protein (CRP) is a protein marker that rises during systemic
inflammation. High levels of CRP reliably predict recurrent coronary
events (angina) and heart attack. Elevated CRP levels are also
associated with lower survival rates in these patients.
Studies
also indicate that the higher the CRP level, the greater the risk of
having a heart attack. Studies also found association between sudden
cardiac death, peripheral arterial disease, and CRP.
Control Inflammation Can Prevent Heart Attack And Stroke
Inflammation
should be controlled by lifestyle changes, including losing weight,
exercising, controlling diabetes, stopping smoking, controlling high
blood pressure, and reducing alcohol intake. Anti-platelet drugs such as
aspirin may offer some protection. Cholesterol-lowering statin drugs
may also reduce low-grade inflammation.
A recent clinical trial
that studied 17,802 apparently healthy men and women discovered that
lowering inflammation can prevent cardiovascular disease. Another trial
that examined 250,000 patients who suffered a heart attack showed that
nearly 50% of the attacks occurred in people with normal cholesterol
levels, which indicates that inflammation is involved. The study
findings also implied that about 20% of the total heart attacks in the
US can be prevented simply by controlling inflammation.
Natural Remedies For Inflammation Relief
There
are many medicinal herbs with anti-inflammatory properties that can
reduce chronic inflammation safely. Some of them have been extensively
analyzed and studied. To name just a few: Turmeric, Scute, Coptis,
Lovage, and Gingo biloba.
By keeping inflammation under control, natural anti-inflammatory remedies may:
-- Boost the vascular healing and repair;
-- Improve vascular function and integrity;
-- Maintain normal coagulation of blood and protect blood vessels from breakdown;
-- Restore the body's antioxidant defense and help to ease stress.

    !Hey, you there
Yes you, the one who is looking for a weight loss solution!
Why
do you want to lose weight? There are a few reasons why people are
seeking weight loss. But hang on, I have to clarify some myths:
1. You want to lose weight because people say you are fat.
2. You want to lose weight because you think you are fat.

No!
You shouldn't lose weight just because you were perceived as 'fat'! A
healthy weight is one that is maintained within the normal Body Mass
Index (BMI) range of 18.5 to 24.9! BMI is calculated by using your body
mass (kilograms) divided by the square of your height (meters). So if
your BMI is within the normal range, you should seek to tone your body
instead of losing weight!
For those who have a BMI of 25 or more, you should be looking to lose weight, because fit and healthy people are cool!
But
first, you must ask yourself how did you gain all the weight in the
first place? You like eating? So does everybody! Being able to eat your
favourite food is probably one of the best feelings in the world! You
get my drift.
And then you ask, "How can some of my friends who always eat all their favourite foods never be fat? It's not fair!"
Is
it really not fair? Have you ever asked these people about their
lifestyle? Do they exercise? If they do not exercise, what else do they
do?
The reason why some people gain weight easily and others do
not is the difference in our metabolism rate! Each and every one of our
bodies are different, so our metabolism rate is also not the same. Your
metabolism rate is affected by everything you do! From sleeping to even
drumming your fingers on the table. The efficacy of your digestive
system also accounts for your metabolism rate.
Now that you know a
little bit more about weight gain, start to look back on your
lifestyle. Have you previously lived a sedentary lifestyle? Would you
rather wait 15 minutes for a 2-minute bus ride or just walk 15 minutes
to the same destination? Walking is also a form of exercise in case you
haven't realised. Exercise means to move. The key to lose weight is to
move more! You can stop thinking about exercising if you don't like to
exercise. Just think about moving more than you are doing now.
Without following an exercising routine, you can start off with these:
1. Take the stairs instead of the escalator or the elevator if you are not in any hurry.
2.
Always walk to places within a 20-minute walking distance from your
location instead of taking transport if you can spare the time.
3. Tidy up your house; doing housework whenever possible.
To
some of you, taking these 3 simple steps may be compared to living in
hell. To the rest of you, it may be a sudden realisation of how easy it
is to 'exercise', to lose weight!

Many of us have battled with the age old conundrum of "Why when
I'm doing everything right, am I still not losing weight?" It can be one
of the most frustrating obstacles in life for many, often sufficient to
cause some to completely give up on their weight loss goals due to not
seeing results.
To use a common phrase; "barking up the wrong
tree" may help shine light on the bigger picture. Basically it doesn't
matter how much effort you're putting in if you're focusing on the
controlling or reducing the wrong things. Hopefully the following
pointers will help to keep you heading in the right direction:
1. You're probably focusing on the wrong thing!
Ever
since the 1980's the word FAT has been viewed as a swear word,
something to be feared and loathed. Everybody from Richard Simmons to
Rosemary Conley has espoused the "Eat less fat and you'll be less fat"
dogma.
After 20 odd years of people reducing fats and still
getting fatter we've finally cottoned on to the fact that (largely in
part to individuals such as Dr Atkins of the Atkins diet and Barry Sears
of the Zone diet) fats are innocent and it's actually carbohydrates
(aka "carbs") that are the villains who are wrapping all of this extra
insulation around our ever expanding waistlines.
2. You probably don't understand exactly what a "Carb" is!
During
my time as a fitness professional this is probably in the top 3 most
common misconceptions I regularly come across. I'm going to set the
record straight here and now; FRUIT & VEGETABLES ARE CARBS!
A large number of people think that these are food groups all of their own, but fruit and vegetables are carbohydrates.
If you look into the works of authors such as Loren Cordain (The Paleo Diet) and Robb Wolf ( http://robbwolf.com/
) you will notice that these are the main types of carbs that our
ancestors ate and that we have evolved to eat. That was until the mass
production of grains (wheat etc) began with the advent of the
agricultural revolution. Which also neatly coincides with the onset of
many health-related diseases.
From the current research it's
looking as if processed grains play a clear part in many of our
health-related illnesses. The problem is that their availability is very
widespread, as process grains such as wheat are in everything from
cakes, biscuits and bread to pasta and pizzas.
3. You probably don't understand the effects of insulin on weight loss!
Insulin
is a hormone secreted by the pancreas and is essentially a storage
hormone. Every time your body metabolises foods and releases among other
things glucose into your bloodstream the pancreas secretes insulin to
bring those sugar levels back down to normal. The greater the sugar
release the more insulin needs to be secreted. To give an example a few
biscuits would cause a significant spike in your blood sugar as opposed
to an apple which would illicit a much more modest response (see the
glycemic index)
The greater the spike in sugar levels the lower
are brought back down, actually to below where they were initially. This
will then result in your brain telling you to eat again to bring them
back up again, thus setting off a chain of you feeling a desire to eat
fast release types of foods (bread, cakes etc)
The double whammy
is that as insulin is a storage hormone, whilst high levels of it are
present your body not only will your system aim to extract and store as
much fat as possible from the high GI food you have just eaten but your
body will also not release any from it's fat stores.
In a nutshell, eating these high GI foods not only makes you fat, but it also makes sure you stay that way.
To conclude, try to do the following:
Aim to get the majority of your carbs from vegetables (especially lots of the leafy green alkalising ones)
Supplement your veg intake with limited amounts of fruits.
Steer clear of the bloodsugar-spiking carbs such as bread, pasta,
cakes, sweets, fruit juices, soft drinks and sweets etc and you'll
notice the pounds start to come off.
Don't worry about eating fats, they're essential to the body and
actually help you lose fat. Just avoid the high omega-6 ones like
processed vegetable oils and the trans-fats found in most junk foods.
The Real Truth About Women's Diet Plans

We've probably all heard about the Grapefruit Juice Diet, the
Soup Diet, and all sorts of other diet plans. The names of these diets
are well-known and easily recognized. They all have their fans and their
detractors, and they all claim to have proof that they work well
without damaging your health.
Here's some straight talk about
diets: The only diet that will work for you is one that you can easily
maintain and sustain without making any drastic changes to your
lifestyle. None of these popular diets fit that description.
To be
perfectly honest, none of these quick-fix, fad diets provide the
nutrition you really need. This article is a gallery of some of the
least healthful fad diets ever concocted, and the reasons why their
outlandish methods of losing weight will never work for most people.
1. Grapefruit Juice
According
to the Grapefruit Juice Diet, all you have to do to lose weight is eat
whatever foods you like (as long as you eat more fats and proteins than
carbs), while also drinking grapefruit juice at a rate of 64 ounces per
day. In theory, the grapefruit juice and the protein will work together
to boost your metabolism and burn more fat.
However, more
objective scientists have shot down this theory by pointing out the
complete lack of scientifically-valid research to prove that this plan
actually works.
2. Baby Food
Tracey Anderson, who is a
well-known trainer, designed the Baby Food Diet. It advises dieters to
go through as many as 14 jars of baby food throughout their day, and
conclude the day with a "real" dinner, if desired.
Baby food has a
very small amount of calories, so, on some level, it makes sense that a
diet like this would cause one to lose weight. On the other hand,
critics have pointed out serious flaws in this approach to dieting.
Namely, baby food lacks many of the nutrients that adults need, and this
diet may increase the chances that the dieter will end up binging on
junk foods.
3. Soup
There are a number of variations
on the Soup Diet, most of them featuring chicken or cabbage soup. In
every version, the basic idea is the same: Eat a normal breakfast, then
eat nothing but soup for the rest of the day.
Simple? Definitely. Healthy? Not necessarily.
The
basis of the Soup Diet is what is known as "caloric restriction." It
focuses on forcing your body to burn fat by limiting the number of
calories you take in, but does nothing to ensure that you're getting the
nutrients your body needs to function optimally. Any diet that does not
require you to eat foods that give you those nutrients is not to be
trusted.
You may lose some weight while on a
caloric-restriction-based diet like the Soup Diet, but you'll be harming
your body by depriving it of nutrients. Not only that, but with diets
like this one, there is a very good chance that you'll regain all that
weight as soon as you go off the diet.
4. Cookies
The
simple concept behind the Cookie Diet appears delicious at first: Every
day, you eat 6 cookies, followed by dinner at the end of the day. The
cookies, however, aren't much like anything your mom might have made.
Most of them contain some type of meat protein (yes, really).
Some
people have had success with this diet, but, again, their success is
most likely because they consumed such a limited number of calories per
day while on this diet - about 800 to 1,000.
The main problem with
this diet plan is that you probably won't be able to stick to it for
very long. The cookies aren't exactly great-tasting, and you'll probably
experience cravings for "real" food before long.

If you're like most people who want to achieve fat loss, you want
to reach your dream body - yesterday. You don't want to wait six months
to 'take things slow', but rather, you want to be done with this
dieting business once and for all.
You want results and you want results now.
If
this speaks your language, it's time to rethink your approach. Far too
many people get caught up in crash diets that promise ultra-fast
results, but have little chance of ever helping you maintain that goal
weight you're looking to achieve.
So let's take a quick peak right
now at why rapid weight loss isn't the best route to take and why the
slow and steady approach, at the end of the day, is actually the fastest
route to true weight loss success.
Loss Of Lean Muscle
The
very first reason why you should avoid rapid weight loss is because of
the fact that losing weight too quickly is almost going to guarantee you
that some of that weight will be muscle mass loss. When you are
dropping pounds by the week, you're either losing water or lean tissues
because your body thinks its starving and will be holding on to body fat
with everything that it's got.
This is not the way to an attractive body.
Slowed Metabolism
The
second reason to avoid rapid weight loss is because it's going to
significantly slow down your metabolism. To achieve rapid weight loss
you will have to use a very low calorie diet and your body will adapt
quickly to this. When you're hardly feeding yourself any calories, the
body knows it's time to conserve fuel and as such, will cause your
metabolism to slow to a c-r-a-w-l.
This doesn't bode well in the
war against the bulge. The best way to fast weight loss results is to
maintain the fastest metabolic rate so that you can burn fat all day
long.
Nutritional Deficiency
Finally, the
last reason why rapid weight loss isn't the best choice to go is because
it will set you up for nutritional deficiency. If you're only consuming
1,000 calories per day (or somewhere around that mark), you won't be
taking in a good variety of foods and meeting all your nutritional
requirements.
Over the long term, this could set you up for serious health issues.
Slow And Steady Wins The Race
So
rethink your approach. Those who take things slower and put in the time
and effort to do it correctly will actually reach their goals faster
because of the fact they won't lose weight and the regain it right back
as soon as they fall off their diet - and let's face it, those crash
diets are impossible to stick with for more than a week or two at a
time.
Be smart, have patience, and work hard. That is what will get you to your end goal.

progress. They are at a loss as to why their diet isn't working. There
are many reasons for this.
Making your diet work is like planting a
garden. You need good soil and proper planning for it to grow. All to
often diets stall for just these reason.
Taking weight loss
serious is the most important thing you need to do. You must prepare
yourself mentally so that you can stay focused on losing weight.
Make
a commitment to lose weight, no matter what. You can't lose weight to
please someone else. You must do it for yourself. Take the "I will"
approach to weight loss. By saying you are going to try to lose weight,
you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
Being inconsistent
with your diet is yet another problem that leads to failure. Many of us
eat properly during the week, then splurge on the weekends. A proper
diet requires consistency in order to succeed. Those small snacks that
you're eating on a regular basis add up and you soon find that your diet
has failed.
Many people think that they can purchase healthy
foods and lose weight but end up eating twice as much. This practice
will not only result in no weight loss but most likely weight gain.
Eating vegetables in their natural form is the best way to lose weight.
Avoid eating processed foods at all costs.|
When on a weight loss
program, your body requires that you flush if of all the unwanted
toxins. It is vital that you drink plenty of water to complete this
process. Research has determined that eight or more glasses of water
everyday works best for completing this process.
Physical activity
is paramount to losing weight. The choices of activities that you can
participate in are limitless. A daily routine consisting of 20 to 30
minutes of aerobic exercise is great for burning calories.
If you have reduced your caloric intake and you still aren't losing weight, chances are you aren't getting enough exercise.
Too
much exercise can also create problems. Overdoing your exercise routine
may send your body into an anaerobic state. This means your body is
burning carbs rather than fat.
Try to maintain a heart rate of no
more that 85% of your maximum for approximately 20 minutes. By doing
this you will throw your body into an aerobic state, burning fat instead
of carbs.
Getting enough rest with today's fast paced lifestyle
is an issue for many of us. Often, not getting proper rest can bring
your weight loss program to a screeching halt.
Focus and
consistency are a must when attempting to lose weight. Often major
events such as trying to stop smoking or illness can lead to the
downfall of many weight loss programs. Try to keep life as simple as
possible so you can remain focused on your goal.
Last but not
least, set realistic weight loss goals. Having an unattainable goal will
almost certainly lead to the downfall of your program.
Weight loss becomes much easier once you master these principles.
