Laura and Merritt were married in a beautiful ceremony at St. Louis Catholic Church in Pittsford, NY and the Chatterbox Club in Rochester, NY. We had a blast with them and got to swing by the Stone Tolan House for some pictures of just the 2 of them.

We were able to swing by the Stone Tolan House on our way to the reception and take some awesome pictures of Laura and Merritt. It was very obvious how much they love each other. Taking pictures of them was great, easy, fun and beautiful!

Jill in her dress after the last button was done. At that point it hit her and her sister that this was really real. Jill said she had butterflies in her stomach.

Yes that is Julia sewing a button on the back of the dress. It had popped off when Jill was getting dressed and since Julia always carries an super-duper emergency kit all was fixed and well in a matter of minutes.

Yoga class helped Emily Stout learn she had breast cancer.

Now she’ll be walking with 18 friends and family members — and thousands of others — in Sunday’s Komen Greater Kansas City Race for the Cure.
The annual event has raised more than $7 million since 1992 in support of breast cancer education, screening and treatment.

Stout’s yoga class came one month after a checkup gave her a clean bill of health in January. She was lowering her upper body into a pushup position when she felt a sharp pain in her right breast.

She guessed it was a pulled muscle. But the pain kept recurring, so she visited her doctor in April. He suggested a mammogram.

“If you have a lump or whatever and it doesn’t hurt, that’s a bad sign,” Stout said. “If you feel a lump and it does hurt, it’s usually a cyst.

“They did a sonogram and they discovered there was blood flow to it. That put it in the tumor category.”

The lump was removed May 12, and doctors updated her two days later.

“They called me that afternoon and told me it was breast cancer,” said Stout, 32, of North Kansas City. “At that point, my world shifted. I didn’t know what to think.

“I do yoga all the time, drink water like a fish, eat all the food they tell you to eat to avoid cancer, and work out. I could’ve been eating doughnuts and bonbons the whole time.”

She went to the doctor’s office again. The cancer was in stage one, which was good. It was also triple negative, which she said was another good sign.

Stout began chemotherapy, and her fourth session of six happened Friday.

Though Stout begins to feel sick two or three days after a session, she plans to walk early Sunday morning, no matter how she feels.

“I would do it regardless,” she said. “My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last Thanksgiving. It’s something near and dear to my heart, the good (the race) could do. To get up early on a Sunday morning to go walk or run, that’s such a small thing you can do for such a big cause.”

Stout will have a double mastectomy in October. In the meantime, she hopes to start a nonprofit organization called “Drummin’ for the Cure — the Stout Foundation.”

She teaches drumline at Ruskin High School, and in a demonstration of support, members of the school’s drumline will be performing at 19th and Main streets during the race.

Instead of giving up she has started her own foundation – Drummin for the Cure – The Stout Foundation - geared towards raising money for breast cancer with the ultimate goal of having a metro-wide drum line competition. How AWESOME is that?

She is a high school marching band teacher and is the percussion line director. Today is chemo is #4, tomorrow is the pep rally at her school and Sunday is the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Her kids (drumline) will be there performing for her and for all the other folks at the race. I am photographing the whole week with her. ; – ) – More pictures later of this amazing week!
