Portrait of a Raindrop

RAGING STORM

2015-08-06T23:09:00.000-07:00

Dark clouds swirled across the sky, casting a dark shadow across the Earth; the sun sank in the sea of clouds; the pulverizing heat that had overwhelmed us through the day was now nothing but a calm breeze kissing my skin.

I decided to go for a jog around the school. I’ll beat the rain, I thought. As droplets trickled down, I ran like a steed; I saw a lady in purple holding an umbrella and I felt my blood rushing with excitement, my feet thudded even faster, like pistons. But suddenly, the water poured down as if there was an ulcer in the sky; I heard the sky raging, roaring like a lion; it spewed out its rage as violent downpours that soaked me wet as if I had been drenched by the sea; the wind bellowed! I felt it tossing me from side to side, so I stopped running. I saw the water trickling about in eddies; it flowed, flooding the sidewalks and the roads.

I felt so inferior! oh, I was nothing! It is at that point that I realized that we are we are tiny in the face of Nature’s violent rage. If it wants to, it can sweep us away, flood us away and all we can do to is marvel at its majestic prowess.

ロボット - robot

2015-08-01T21:48:00.002-07:00

I am a robot; who am I? Am I a man or a machine? I was made by man, to think like man, be like man, but I’m not man; I’m not made of flesh and bones, I’m made of circuits and wires, and billions upon billions of mathematical calculations that happen every minute; what am I? A man, or a machine?

They say, to be human I must feel, I must fall in love-- can I fall in love? If they program me to. They say, their hearts flutter and they get this feeling and life begins to have meaning. My circuits can light up, but I’m afraid it’s not the same.

can I tell right and wrong?-- If you program me.

kill?-- If you program me.

hate?-- If you program me.

make peace?-- If you program me.

What gods shall I kneel down to? Man? shall I make monuments to man for creating me? or to computers for giving me life? I don’t know.

I am a machine;

私はロボットです。 I am a robot; I think, therefore I am; therefore I am free!

AFRICAN FIRE

2015-07-28T23:01:00.002-07:00

Oh, African fire that burned while my ancestors danced to the beat

of their own ancestors, until their skin was black as the night, black as blackness

black as a black bonfire burning boisterously,

Oh, African fire, dancing on the pile of firewood, with your flames kissing the firewood

making love to it until it becomes as black as coal,

to its very core,

Oh, African fire, with your enchanting blackness that courses through my veins;

I feel the blackness flowing through me,

imbibing me, intoxicating me like beer!

I see my ancestors dancing with their black bodies dancing through the night

while the drum rolls! rolls! rolls!

--African fire! ferocious fire!

burn through my veins, course through them like a river

flooding in the rain;

Burn! Burn, fire, burn!

burn me to the very core

until I am nothing but ash

and let those ashes be a tale

that will smoke through the homestead tomorrow morning

when they will all say:

“oh, last night there was an African fire,

and yes, it burned like a true African flame!

Yes; its eyes were yellow like a leopard's,

-oh, African fire!”

MOON

2015-07-26T22:41:00.003-07:00

Beautiful moon,

shining like a pebble

in the sky,

glowing, flowing,

overflowing with beauty,

purity

I feel my eyes

soaking your light-

marble light;

like twilight

truth is I don’t know why I like to look at the moon,

is it because it reminds me of a face; ghostly pale,

wandering alone in a dark sky?

oh moon,

beautiful moon, mysterious moon;

tell me why i like to look at you;

tell me why you like to look at me

to stare down at me

BIRD SONG

2015-07-23T21:37:00.001-07:00

sing a song for me like a bird
tweeting in early summer
because the sun is high and glad
And the world is so much younger

open up your cute little beak
and bubble it up like cello
let your cords feel free to speak
until the world's all mellow

bless us all with your melody
watch the squirrels dancing!
this is the world's remedy
and mine is only just glancing

абстрактный - abstract

2015-07-22T20:08:00.000-07:00

in this world he sees with walls warping and moving
and changing,
where stairs, descend and ascend,
and nothing is as it seems;
where he walks, runs away; from what?
from something,
and is found; by what?
by something;
in this world where at one moment
he's in a classroom listening to a teacher,
the next he's walking with a girl in one hand,
and he's on a journey he's always been
his whole life; going, somewhere,
over there
where the sky is azure blue, and oceans
of potions wash up the shores and
a ship flows away to an unknown island;
then he enters the building, enters the room,
and he's here, where he's always been
somewhere;
and the next thing he knows, it's a dog
chasing her, and she leaps over the wall
into the backyard of some fancy house,
and she's sipping tea with her friends,
and the dog is vying revenge,
he'll leap over the wall and make her
pay!
but then they are there
where they've always been,
in this street;
and next thing he knows it's, shark,
no, a whale!
that swallows and suffocates its
victims,
there in the foamy ocean-
yes, beware, beware of whales!
beware of whales!
he yells
and the next he knows,
he's here, where he's always been,
doing what he's always done,
whatever it is-- абстрактный

SONG OF THE NIGHT

2015-07-21T23:33:00.000-07:00

I heard the birds moaning like it was a funeral,
as if a loved one had died
I heard the insects croaking,
hidden in the grass, behind the trees
and who knows where!—
It was a loud, discordant noise;
yes, the night was theirs, and I was an intruder!

have you ever been outside at night
and heard noises you wouldn't otherwise hear during the day?
It's as if the world doesn't belong to us,
as if the real owners of it wake up at night
to claim what's rightfully theirs;
as if the day has died
and the night has awakened
to haunt the living;
we don't belong there—
oh, the night has a voice!
listen to it mourn!

THE WORLD, A CURCUIT

2015-07-20T23:18:00.001-07:00

The world was one supercomputer connected
through circuits and circuits;
many pathways led to other pathways
and data was looped hooped;
thoughts, feelings, words, sounds,
war, famine, peace, money--
you name it! You name it!
Although it seemed disconnected,
it was all connected by one
Central Processing Unit;
with each loss part of
a greater gain.

Raison d’être

2015-07-19T22:42:00.001-07:00

I love you so much
You are my raison d’être
What am I? a man?

Yes, more than a man
But a prisoner of love:
Can't live without you

Desire's poison
Once it's inside it's unseen;
And it kills slowly

RAFT PULLED BY BOAT

2015-07-19T01:13:00.001-07:00

Waves tumbling slowly
Then violently with passion,
Splashing me wholly

Two columns open
And the raft speeds through
And then it's swollen

A foamy layer
Is pulled behind like a tail
Like stormy prayer.

Oh, it's fun to ride
A raft pulled behind a boat
Sailing through the tide

SLEEP TIME

2015-07-17T19:36:00.002-07:00

It is time to sleep

Even though the night is young

And there’s work to do

MORNING, NIGHT, NOON

2015-07-16T22:47:00.001-07:00

The morning is young,
but the night us very old,
the afternoon noon is youthful.

LIFe

2015-07-14T23:11:00.002-07:00

LIFE

It is time to breathe

The fresh air with open lungs

And feel it inside

Life’s mysterious

Yet we live it every day

With little effort

Few, if any, know

The hidden meaning of life--

Billions have lived it

Toi que j'aimais

2015-02-11T19:16:00.001-08:00

Toi que j'aimais, avec toute ma force,
toute mon courage, toute ma vigeur;
ne pourais-jamais te le dire
Plus que dans mes rêves?

peut-être non:

tu sera comme toutes les femmes
que j'ai aimé;
perdue
au fond de ma mémoire:
où tu me hantera
jour et nuit--

oh, timidité!
toi qui me dérobe
toute la dignité

MY HEART BLEEDS

2014-10-22T09:54:00.000-07:00

Oh, Africa my heart bleeds
As if stabbed by a blade and the blood won't stop pouring out;
and it pours down like a lake
that drowns me in lamentation; oh Africa!
My heart bleeds; for all the pain and sorrow
that you beget, so much so as if there's no tomorrow
oh, my heart bleeds!

But oh, Africa my heart beats
with joy so much so that it begins to mend ;
for all the hope that you pour into my hear;
for there's no place like Africa!
a place for resilience! hope! courage!
Oh Africa; my heart bleeds no more!

SNOW

The snow sprinkled down from the sky like white dust. It sprayed down in slow hypnotic swirls and danced its way towards the ground. Then everything was coated in a white layer of ice; the ground, cars, and trees.

Some of the trees had shed their leaves for the winter. They were dry, naked stalks. They were sad that the harsh winter had stripped them bare. But the snow dressed them up in creamy coats, and they looked like guys about to out partying.

The other trees that were still green joined in the fun. They splattered white mascara on their eyes, and strapped belle belts round their waists until they were voluptuous. Then they winked, twirled their waists and seduced the guys out for a dance.

They danced all night long in the snow; as the flakes flittered on like tambourines; as ice shimmered like disco balls. They held each other in the waists, and flipped one another across the carpet of snow.

But they were not alone in the fun. The cars had all painted their faces. The cream covered their eyes, lips and noses. Then their lights licked the sweet cream off their faces.

“Hummm, delicioso!” they said. The large, manly 4x4s looked liked like stags, with white bushy furs. They showed off their fluffy chests, and the smaller cars giggled. And soon they too were immersed in the music of the night.

I was sitting down in the living, looking out through the window. I saw snowflakes lingering in front of my window; dancing and twirling round and round like ballerinas, before taking a soft dive to the ground.

“Wee!” they seemed to say. “Look at us!” but no soon had I looked had they fallen off to pile up onto the soft layer of snow.

Oh! Everything was so belle! Light made the snow shine. And that pure white hue made my heart dance with joy! Oh, snow my eyes will dance this dance forever!

SNOW

2014-02-12T22:01:00.002-08:00

SNOW

Kisses poured out from the sky

Like rain splashing the Earth with love

So much love he began to cry

As she caressed him from above

Through the night we heard the tears

As sheets of ice pelted down,

Jabbing our windows like sharp speajrs;

Stabbing the heart of our town.

The next morning all was white;

All was frozen, still as death

Earth was almost out of sight

Trying to hide from his still birth

My first love

2014-02-09T08:29:00.000-08:00

MY FIRST LOVE

Her name was love and she swung like a dove

As she flew down with her wings from above

The endless white sky; to give me a hug

With her soft feathers, like a ladybug

And whenever she spoke she cooed cutely

Her beautiful voice rose and fell acutely

Like a love-song hit by storms of passion;

I was the lover dressed up in fashion!

Oh! Those emotions she sprayed like perfume

As I lay hostage underneath her plume

Staring softly at those fiery black eyes

That still haunt me in dreams like cloudy skies

Today I sail alone on this old boat

Croaking and crying like an old toad

Because; oh! Doves must one day fly away
To clip out an olive branch from the bay.

2014-02-01T09:09:00.002-08:00

SNAKE

The snake slithers in the granary

Hidden and Coiled up like a metal spring

Its eyes are burning and ready to sting;

Its tail’s a work of furious archery

Chipo walks in with her bamboo basket

Singing sweet songs as she heaves maize

Into the basket. Then she lays her gaze

On a corner and sees her coiled casket

The snake strikes like lightning and bites her breast

She falls down and yells, “Yooo...!.. Bitten by s-nake...!”

The villagers wake up; find her dry as steak

And bury her with her sister to rest

RAIN

2014-01-10T08:53:00.000-08:00

The rain is falling down like lips

Kissing the tops of tall buildings

That try take too many sips

Of many bountiful feedings

Earth and Sky have fallen in love

During such a bitter winter

Their love is flowing from above

Making our hearts smell so minter!

In the streets the ice has melted

Puddles paddle on like newborns

Until everywhere they have settled

Even on some lonely lawns

Now cars crawl crisply on Highways,

Lovers lock arms and skedaddle

The sun sails slowly on our days

And warmth keeps us in our cradle

So:

Go out into the world

And make fun rain like gold
